VLOG: How I Hem Knit Tops and Win a Surprise

- What did my husband say he wanted to learn how to do when he retires? If you guess it, I'll send you a surprise. (Not applicable after 1-31-19.) Also, two new knit tops and how I hem them.
Update: It is 1-30 and nobody has guessed what Jerry wants to learn to do. I never would have guessed it myself!

Joy I anxiously await all your videos. You teach so many things and you have great advice. I feel Jerry wants to learn to fly and or quilt. Or even woodworking. Whatever he wants to do he needs to go for it! You both deserve to pursue your passions. Happy Retirement but make more videos!😎
Joy, You mentioned that you need 3 spools to use you coverstitch machine. I wind Bobbins from my one cone and place them in the needles where not so much tread is used as is used in the looper.

Morning Joy! Love sharing my morning coffee with you. Great video, as always and thanks for the shout out. :) I think the person I'm having the hardest time forgiving is myself. Boy don't I beat myself up about mistakes in my past? But you are right that it is very freeing once you forgive yourself or anyone else. Love your tops! I use SAS in my tops too for hemming and yes, I've had to use a roll backwards more than once. LOL Enjoy your day my friend!

Hi Joy, the first thing that went through my mind was Jerry may want to learn to sew but then the second thought that went through my mind was that he may want to learn to vlog so that he can record his fishing adventures. Maybe Jerry wants to learn to sew! 😉 I used to use the steam a seam tape. I too liked to do a 2 thread cover stitch over it. Recently I discovered wonder tape....it really helps the cover stitch do a better job and then after you wash your garment it dissolves completely away! Leaving hems less stiff. Loved your cut the hem trick!
I’m a cosmetologist and you are trimming your bangs perfectly. We call that “point cutting” and that’s exactly how you are supposed to do it. I do it 90% of the time when I cut hair. Nothing worse than having a layered haircut that you can actually see the blunt edges on

Also, your coffee drinking always looks so delicious! Keep on drinking that coffee....it doesn't bother me at all. The search bar helps when I'm looking for something in particular, like how to sew a hem, lol. Always forgive so that you can move on. Sip, slurp or spill your coffee all you want to! But, don't stab yourself with the pin, it hurts! :)

Great tips Joy. I’ve been buying Heat and Bond Soft Stretch. It’s really good but expensive for a short role. Answer for what your husband wants to do when he retires. 1. Learn to knit. 2. Fly remote control planes. 3. Drive for Uber. 😂
Hey Joy I was drinking my coffee at the same time as you. I just wish i could do my pattern on Sure Fit Design for the shirt you have on. I love that pattern Girl. But i just can't get the hang of the sure fit design. I can tweak patterns but cannot get Sure Fit Designs. I like your colors red shirt and gray pants. I love the Jalie Pants so much. I love the Love Notions Patterns and Hot Patterns you should try them they are good patterns too. I now watch Vivmom and Becky from Power Tools with Threads both of these girls have great videos. Keep up the good work I just love your videos. Where are the dogs Josie and Jackie and the cats you don't talk of them anymore. Also, Happy Retirement I retired April 2018. I am loving it. This video was like a visit with you in your home! I loved your story about forgiveness and how it applied to Jerry and appreciated the tip about side seam hemming. Two guesses about what Jerry wants to learn after retirement.....(1) photography, (2) learn to be a pilot. Outdoor stuff, not sewing. Oh wait - - maybe build a car or truck for showing at car shows???
Joy I really enjoy your videos and you have made some darling tops. I know I have seen you draw a v neckline on a pattern but I wanted to make one that transfers the side bust dart into gathers at the v neckline. I would love it if you know how to do that and made a video explaining the process. I have been using sure fit designs for about a year and still have soooo much to learn. @@Joy4650B I have an old shirt that has gathers around the v neck of a shirt that I have loved but it is about worn out. I actually just found one of your videos that you did six months ago that you have a turquoise top on similar to what i want to achieve. It is titled "What I am sewing now"

For the viewers who were asking about the wide ironing board, there is a Video here on TH-cam for a DIY version. It fits over your existing ironing board and is pretty inexpensive to make. My boyfriend made one for me in an afternoon and I love for ironing yardage especially.

Good morning Joy, I was starting to worry as I hadn't seen one of your wonderful videos for a few days, I thought that maybe you would be in "slow upload land", but this morning there you were, like a breath of fresh air and bringing more sunshine to a very cold, grey winter's day here in the UK. I am glad to seen that I am not the only person to have trouble with steam and seam, (I thought they were out to get me, drive me crazy so I would give up sewing and my husband could claim the conservatory back.....no chance) any way lovley to see you back, I know its only been a few days, but to those of us who love to listen and watch you it can seem like a very long time. Does Gerry, want to learn to build boats? You have mention before that you had a boat, or was it boats and you sold one. If Gerry like boats maybe he wants to build a boat just like Gibbs does on the TV programme NCIS, only hopefully not in your basement. Looking forward to your next video and I'm sitting waiting for it with my very big cup of very English tea.

Hi Joy, thanks for the hemming tips. I tried to hem a t-shirt last week. It turned out ok, but would have been easier to sew your way. I'll have to try the steam a seam. I already have some for quilting. With the business of helping people you've been in, I think Jerry wants to do some volunteer work.

I am always griping about mine being rounded at the end when I quilt.
