    That little gal that makes her own patterns, my oldest sister that passed away last year could study something for around a hour or whatever it took for her to grasp how to make it.....go home and make the thing from memory 2 weeks later! She was amazing! I miss my big sissy!

    Joy, I have the same gapping in the front neck and saw this video and went aha! Now I know how to make it fit better. I also have the same issue with adding front waist to hem darts. Especially with cotton. I also noticed I have a sway back and sway back. Thanks to you in helping fit my patterns. I am getting better at it and keep perfecting Orr. It is a challenge but can be more fun than frustrating. Thanks again.

      Yes, Viv is a superstar. I don't even try to keep up with her monthly number of makes. However, I bet we are pretty close in the number of patterns we own and how much fabric is in our stash.

    Well I learned something new! Don’t chop the corners. I thought you had to, now I know there’s a better way. Thanks so much for that. I’m just going to have to break down and buy a sure fit design. I’m a classic size 16, so most, patterns fit me right out of the envelope. But not always. Besides it would be a learning experience for me. It’s kind of pricey though, so I’ve hesitated. Your sure fit blouses always look so nice on you!

    You are a great quilter so I wish you would do more quilts but I do enjoy the clothes videos. I buy from fabric.com quite a bit. You do give great tips and I certainly need those!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I may just start sewing my own clothes. Haven't done that since I was in high school wherein I sewed most of my clothes. I bought fabric with money I earned from babysitting. Ugh!!! 25 cents an hr. lol

    • @avdm196
      @avdm196 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A little late , just watched your video. but if you have a pattern envelope with several pieces of clothing, you can write on the envelope e.g. "see blouses " and then copy the envelope picture with pattern no. and your note as many times as different pieces of clothing-1 (e.g. blouse, pants, skirt = 3; 3-1 =2 => 2 copies) and place the copies in the respective boxes. When you look for pants you will find the envelope copy and know where to look for it. Thus you don't have to remember any special classification.

    Organize your 'mixed elements' together as a 'wardrobe' classification. I made a list of what elements I would be looking for and the pattern number which had it under that element. It also helps that I have notebooks with enlarge copies of the envelope under their classifications, ie. Wardrobe, top, bottom, etc. I look through the notebooks rather than combing through file drawers or boxes constantly. Hope this helps.

    Howdy Joy! In this video your talking about how to organize your patterns instead of by company. Did you ever establish another system? I only have fifty or so pattern and the only way I can find what I'm looking for is by style of garments. Knit tops and Woven tops are under Tops. For those patterns that have shirts, skirts, vests, pants etc. I categorize them as co-ordinates. If you have a better system, I'd like to know.

    Love the beautiful colorful print fabrics. My kind of fabric. Can’t wait for our Hobby Lobby to be built. They just about have all the ground cleared for it (they had to take down an old hotel). Wish we had a Joanns here too. Everything is pretty far from us and have to go to San Antonio to shop, which closest Hobby Lobby now is about 45 minutes away and closest Joanns is over an hour away. Price we pay for living out in the country! Thanks for sharing the hemming tip.

      Okay. I'll try to remember that on my next blouse. I can tell you, I ALWAYS start with the one that keeps the blouse shut at the bust fullness. I put a pin there. Then I measure every other buttonhole from that position. On this blouse, the buttons all turned out to be 2 1/2 inches apart.

    Your blouse is absolute perfection Joy! It fits you so well. I wasn't sure about that fabric design, but lo and behold, it looks really really good on you. I think either pair of pink pants would go with it. I have considered purchasing Sure Fit Designs, but some of the comments people put on the SFD Facebook page about the troubles they are having makes me really scared to invest in the system. I'm not the best "fitter" and struggle with that and am always looking for a better way to tackle fit. I can't wait to see the rose duc fabric made up in a jacket. I want that fabric too!! I think you said you purchased it at Hobby Lobby, correct? I'm gonna go on a mission to find it this afternoon. I have a suggestion for organizing your patterns. I put an app on my smartphone called SewingKit HD. I enter the info about each pattern (pattern #, description, sizing, etc.) and upload a photo of the front & back of the pattern. Now when I go to the store and find a pattern I like I can check my SewingKit HD app to see if I already own it or not. Waalaa...no more pattern duplicates! You can also enter info about fabrics, threads, notions, or books you own; projects you're working on; and more. To top it off, the app is FREE, or at least it was when I got it years ago. Hope this tips helps. Hugs

    Joy, help for categorizing your patterns with multiple views: make a copy of it. Save in the pattern in box you want and put a copy of the other patterns of it in the appropriate box. Ex. Pattern with pants, shirt, and dress. Put original in shirt box (the most likely pattern you would make) then out the copies in pants and dress box. FYI. you are amazing and I love keeping up with you. Bless you.

    I always learn so much from you! I love the sure fit patterns! I'm trying to come up with a few patterns to keep as my "go to" patterns. I'm having a real problem finding tank top patterns with a little facing. I live in Florida and it will be 86 again this weekend! The extra layer of fabric is hot! Would you do a vlog on how to put a bust dart in a shirt that doesn't have one? I cannot find an easy tank top of short sleeve top pattern with a bust dart! You have me sold on them now!

  • @Cynthia2v
    @Cynthia2v 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your blouse is lovely and the hem trick on the facing is a good method treatment. I saw Nancy Zieman do that with collars about 15 years ago. I love that Simplicity 8883, and it comes with different size cup measurements. I may have to go to JoAnns again! I made a jacket and top to coordinate last year, but the top is too big now and looks like a hand me down, so I need a new top. That Simplicity one may be the pattern I choose. Thanks for your videos.

    Another great video, Joy. I bought 4 of the same patterns! I've been wanting to make a jacket, but I'm not sure how well my sewing machine will handle the heavier weight fabrics. I'm having a terrible time right now because my pattern instructions don't indicate how I'm supposed to sew a front yoke with a pleat and a double folded, crossed over itself, collar. That makes nine layers of cotton fabric. My Huskystar can't handle it, so I'm about to try on my Singer sewing/embroidery machine. I don't think it's going to work, though. There's no way I can hand sew through that much fabric. Anyway, I'll figure it out somehow! I'm going to watch Whitney's (TomKat Stitchery) jacket tutorial a couple of times, once she has the whole thing up. Then I might attempt to make it. I really enjoy your videos! Have a great day!

    Great tips! You and Viv are dangerous! I separate my patterns like you by company but I take everything out of the envelope, put the tissue and directions in a Manila envelope and file them by company, and number in banker boxes. I put the envelopes in page protectors and binders by company. The sections are dresses, bottoms (pants and skirts) WARDROBE, coats and jackets, miscellaneous and crafts.

    Maybe wasting paper but what if on the patterns that are wardrobes you could make a copies of the pattern front cover and just put them in each corresponding category or just have a separate category for Seperates

    How do you buy your patterns for size? I think you said you go by upper bust, but that is not usually marked on the patterns...

      Patterns have lots of sizes in them. You can choose when you cut it out.

    If you have a pattern with 3 items on it. Photocopy the front cover twice and put one in each of your section. Make a ref on the copied sheet to where the pattern is.

    Hi Joiful Joy! I am listening you telling us about that lady and it just came to my mind how my grandmother used to be. Back in the commy times in the Eastern Europe, there was my grand mother who was a professional seamstress and used to do what this lady is doing. I remember me being little and left on her care and it was exciting to see women coming to have their garments made, and she would take all measurements and a drawing of the design from whatever book she had from the western Europe magazines or her ancient ones from before the war, and she would draw the pattern right on the fabric. She had a big wooden board she would put on the table and do all that there.
    I hear the music and wonder if the music police will notice. Someone put a claim on one of my videos for using elevator music in background. Oh , well , I took the video down for I don't want any lice sucking at my head...lol. No more meatballs soup for the moment , but I will put another back on. That is a good soup to cook.
    That blouse turned out to be gorgeous. Thank you for the hem tip! Very useful

      What a shame you didn't learn from your grandmother. She had to be good for women to come to her for garments. I could watch that for hours. The music was a Christian music station, and I doubt they care. It was the radio. Don't they WANT people to listen to them. Ugh.
