I don't understand why we have to back into docks at all. Well I do. It's because OTR drivers are paid by the mile, so us backing in is free labor. It's also just a massive liability, though. Yard tractors are designed from the ground up to back trailers into docks, regular trucks are not.
Agreed. Idk why they even put reverse on these stupid things honestly. We need to completely redesign how freight is handled. Pull throughs, mobil docks, and competent warehouse workers should be the norm.
Thanks David, I advise all my friends who are preparing for CDL to buy your Sim game, to practise and learn how to control the trailer since it's very realistic and close to real life, I use it myself to improve my skills, and experiment on different set ups even though I have CDL license already.
HEYYYYY DAVID !!!! So glad you're back at doing more backing videos man 🙌🙌🙌 I was wondering where you were LOL. You know, one of the best things I like about your videos is when you show how it's done, then you mess it up and show how you would fix it. To me, that's how I learn. . . is how to recover from a my mistakes. . . and I make, like ALLLLOT of them 🤣🤣 I'm now in my 8th week on my own now and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. . . some not so much, like the bad weather we get, but driving and the job itself I am really liking this. I just got off my shift about an hour ago [ finished at 0400 hrs] and I'm unwinding before I head off to bed. As always, another great video to file away in my youtube folder of trucking how to's so I can watch it again and again. I will literally sometimes watch it 5 times to make sure I got it down, then when I go to work next time, I try it out. Thanks again for all your efforts man, and have a great weekend !!!
Had a tough day on my very first load in Chino, CA today. Super tight spot I was trying to back in to. People were getting pissed cause it was taking me so long.
you wanna command the trailer to move in a specific direction. turn the truck right to move the trailer left. straighten your steers when youre in a jack knifed position to “push” the trailer in that direction. soften the turn when you follow or add more command in the turn by jack knifing further.
I'm a newbie who has taken a very long time to learn basic backing. In school, for months I struggled with the inverse relationship between the tractor, the trailer and the steering wheel. If you can do more videos on lining up the tractor with the trailer and the spots to enter you would be helping a great majority of us. The simplest of areas to enter. Not only backing up but once in the hole,, the forward motions needed to line all three portions in one (the tractor, the trailer, the loading dock). You would be surprised at how complex these three movements are. No difficult areas to enter because that adds a layer of complexity which confuses more than helps. I've been rewatching certain of those videos you have (the simplest backups) and I see a pattern of mistakes we make which is difficult to undo. Thanks for your help.
I struggled too. BAD. But once I got out and had to do it on my own , I eventually learned by trail and error . What i did , was when I set up , if my set up was off at all, I completely re set up . You’ll get it . Once I got my CDL and started at my company. I literally had to repeat the a week of the course cause I just didn’t understand backing . I literally backed that trailer 100 times a day. You’ll learn it ! Don’t get discouraged. Keep watching these videos . I watch them constantly to learn new stuff ! You can do it !!!
@@Julie6795 Absolutely so true. I have improved to the point I am confidant enough to not depend on others. To feel independent is worth millions. This last trip (Jan 2022) I finally backed up between two other trucks. It took me re-setting up, as you state, twice but I got it in without hitting the side trailers. The greatest fear is hitting a side trailer.
I just made this level today. It will be available on the next update, probably in the new few weeks. All new levels will be in crazy levels, and that is level 83
It's great to find someone who shares his experience with you, thank you professor David

I thought this was just a tutorial channel type of thing. Never knew it was a game you can play 😂.
Can you imagine my dispatcher sending this kind of loading docks to rookie drivers or even to tighter docks (such as some waste paper stations).

I wish you could explain in different videos the purpose of Jack knifing when you backing up. Thank you!
