Oh my gosh, love love love your design! I am 62 and believe it or not am wearing a tablecloth dress I made years ago. I love this dress. I cut a perfect circle for the skirt and used a cami under the top. I may be a mature woman. But, I still love the twirl factor in a dress.
Here's an idea from (literally) 1969 (yeah, yeah, I know - showing my age and all that): find a circular tablecloth (again, as lacy, crochet-y, funky, appliqued you name it). Lay it down flat, fold it in half, cut a hole in the neck for a neckline (be careful not to do it too large unless you're going for the off the shoulder thing). Put it over your head (you might need a friend to help with this part) and pin the edges where your wrists are (just to hold it there). Then have your helper pin it where your armpits are but make it loose enough that you can get your arms out -not too snug in other words. Pin it up the sides and in where your armpits would be. Sew a seam all the way up and then down the arm (you can make the sleeve as big, little, think 1960s 'Age of Aquarius' fake medieval stuff), Instant dress. If you want to use part of the tablecloth to bind the neckline, go for it.
I love making those kimono style tops! Super easy and quick. Almost fool proof, very beginner friendly and they generally end up looking good. Also, as an avid crocheter, I'd be super bummed if I made something like that gigantic table cloth, just to have it end up in a thrift store. HOWEVER! If I knew it was going to be repurposed into clothes, I'd be very happy about it. Great upcycles 💜 Edit: don't let any of the crochet go to waste. Turn the off cut circles and edging into a cute, simple summer/boho purse. Of course it will need a lining, but it will look spectacular, I'm sure.
I have totes full of my grandma's old linens and tablecloths. I've made matchy lounge outfits out of the flannel sheets, but the lacy tablecloths have now been called for duty! Thanks, Orly! Love Free People too. You did a great job.💯
Are you freaking kidding me??!! You're absolutely perfect for Diy!! $6 dollars fashion 1000% better than the example you showed! Brutal!! I loved it 🥰👏👏👏
Putting a hand in the pant leg to keep it smooth. Whoa. Game changer! Genius hack. Thank you so much. It’s taken me 2 years to finally find a crochet table cloth in good enough condition to finally make my version .
Omg. The amount of crochet that went into that original tablecloth is literally killing me! If I can find an old unwanted tablecloth you had better believe I’m cutting it up for fun diy. 😉
I just gave away a bunch of antique lace tablecloths!! I knew I would regret it, and your gorgeous outfit makes me doubly regretful!! I think that starting with the fabric glue was a really helpful idea, but when you sewed the lace inserts in, do you think you could have sewn them from the inside to make that step a lot easier? Either way, I always adore YOU and your videos!
OHmygolly!! I have my grandmothers linen table cloths. Neither my sister or myself have a ginormous dining table like she did. So what a fabulous way I can upcycle my grandmothers table cloths!! Love, love, love!!!

Are you freaking kidding me…… This is awwwwwwwwwwwwwsome🥰🥰🥰 love, love, love it. So many ideas came to me……..especially to colorize the circles and use them for so many additions to jeans. You are theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee best DIY Designer🥰🥰🥰. Tip: you obviously had to re stitch the inner seam you opened in error…..soooooooo….. To make it easier…..I’ll open that entire inner seam for both legs …..THEN have easier access to the outer seams to add the lace panel….then re sew the inner seam……..🤗🤗🤗
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 The Houdini of DIYs! Wow this is so beautiful! I would love to try this. This is magical...especially the top! I'm so in love with this top 😍. These diys have been top notch Orly. Can't wait for the next 😁😁🙆🏾♀️
yes!!! the top is hands down my favorite. U made it a little more narrow by removing a half a circle from the front and the back and now it's even better. more balanced
@@OrlysChannel I love it! I'm seriously going on the hunt for a tablecloth lol. I'm so nervous but I've gotta try to make my own. Fingers crossed for me 😁
I can't, I just can't. Creative brains like this don't just happen. Another EPIC example of your genius at work. PS. the element I love the most... is thinking how those tablecloths were present in memorable family gatherings. Had you not rescued the material those memories were destined for the dump. Ironic isn't it, in creating something inspired by #Freepeople you actually FREED THE PEOPLE in lovingly carrying on their story. No fast fashion brands can offer that. 💕
I have some handmade crochet pieces from my great grandmother and while I could never cut up her stuff, I think when something like this has worn out it's useful life, you definitely don't mind giving it a new one! Way to go, great idea to repurpose and added bonus you might feel like someone hand made it for you! I love that thought.
Now I know exactly what I’m going to do with my grandmother’s crochet/dollied table cloths that have been sitting in my linen closet for years and years! Thanks again for a wonderful video ❤️
I love that look. It's cheque and beautiful. The colour is subtle but summery. Also, we do make mistakes at times. It's happened to a few times. ❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Orly this is Super Cute, love everything about this. That table cloth was a expensive table cloth, glad it had another life DIY it into something Fabulous.
Incredible job on the top and slacks, Orly! The tablecloth was so beautiful. I cringed when you cut into it, but I kept thinking maybe there was enough to make a dynamite dress. Hint, hint! Have an amazing Sunday, dear!
Love your DIY !!! I use vintage tablecloths many times . I finished a 1950s blouse (using a Simplicity pattern) with a vintage embroidered tablecloth. It turned out beautiful! The fabric makes the outfit . Thank you for your videos!!!
OMG I love all your creations Orly ! ... such wonderful ideas as I just turned 65 you have given me so many ideas to make my existing wardrobe more stylist. We don't have to be young to enjoy wearing stylist clothing right ?? Your creations are so classy and fun with so much personality! My local Shops here are either too young for me, the other shops seems to make mature women's clothing so frumpy ! I'm stuck in the middle ! LOL I love unique and you certainly know how to create your own look ! You are so talented. Can't wait to see what's next ! I'm certainly going to purchase a lace table cloth ! I have taken sleeves from a blouse and added to a different piece of clothing and also sewn a zipper at the front of other tops to give it more style. I to am always chopping and piecing different tops together. You are so inspiring ! Cindi from Canada, north of Toronto
Hey Gurly!!! Another outstanding DIY. I just did a jumper using a pair of jeans, a light weight white man shirt for the lining behind the lace from a old table cloth. It turned out so cute. I must do your project with the leftover lace I have. This is 🔥🔥🔥, as always. #1 FAN❤️
WOW! This turned out so fantastic. I saw the teaser on Instagram and was waiting to see the finished product and you delivered. I love the top, it really adds to the outfit.
Very cute! Love the 70's vibe! Love your creativity and your presentation of your process! You are an inspiration to those of us who have been wanting to dust off our sewing machines and get back to making clothes we really love to wear!! Thank you, Orly!!
Oh boy, I’m totally in love with this 😍 What a brilliant idea to us a tablecloth!! I’ve been looking at thrifted clothes in a whole new way!! Fabric that can be repurposed into something else …. Thanks Orly 😃💗
I was talking to my friends this week about hand crafted items like doilies and tablecloths that really no one is making anymore and most people don’t have the need or appreciation for. But it’s really a dying art form and shows how our world has drastically changed that it is dying. So it is fabulous to think of being able to use those items as fabric and create clothes out of them. Gorgeous result
Our Dear Ms. DIY: Loving your channel! Recent subscriber. Wow! The final ensemble is absolutely wonderful! On the seam and the table cloth, I suggest using fusible tape to tack it down if you are sewing it. Super fast and easy. I am pretty sure fusible tape would be faster for sewers than fabric glue. I use the tape on most of my sewing projects. You are completely rocking this channel! You already know!😁
I’m only 3 minutes in and I’ve already learned something. I never thought to lead with the short end of a seam ripper! 🤦🏻♀️ makes perfect sense!! Also, ty for showing that mistake up front bc it really does happen to the best of us and doesn’t completely go away with experience
Orly, you have me so stoked!! I can draw and I have the vision..I'm going to get a sewing machine! I have to! Thanks for waking up my drive..I needed to be inspired!
❤Totally love this!! I have to make something for my mom like this! She loves those types of table clothes and loves lace and doilies! You look super cute with the top and pants 😍😍😍💖
This outfit is so so cute😼 Please do more free people. I always look at the midi dresses for years. I need one and can see a little. I love the idea of thrifted table cloth and I’m now on the hunt. Take care from Florida
I literally just took a pair of pants apart to do something fun too , now I have to do this because I adore lace table clothes. I might even already have one . Just have to dig out my stash😁😁😁

Loving the boho vibe. A tablecloth like that would also be super cute attached to a denim mini skirt to give a flowy boho maxi skirt feel
