I have been so in love with the Freepeople Inspired Set I made a few weeks ago and wanted to try and do another Tablecloth Flip!
The thrift stores have such amazing tablecloths and each one has a gorgeous edging detail that lends to the overall design.
I share how I made my "pattern" although its really just plotting your measurements directly on your fabric.
You'll want to work with the design details in your specific tablecloth.
    Designing AROUND those elements.
Starting with inexpensive materials like thrifted tablecloths, are a great way to learn some basic pattern making!

YES to re- imagining fabric!!! I went into Zara one day… found a skirt that I LOVED (a full , drop wast) that was $110 Can. The pattern of the fabric was a copy of a designer fabric in her current clothing collection. Two hours later, I went into Winners (Can version of TJ Max) and found a thin shower curtain, on sale, of the same fabric from said designer. Hacked a current pattern that I had, and made my fav skirt (still five years later, for $17.25.

Oooooh! When you pulled it from the wash, I was ready to pull my hair off, as I loved it white, and I was like WHY WHY WHY! But the subdued colours in the end turned out sooo great! I like all three, but the first one (tulle skirt) is probably my fav.

I admire your ability to just 'go for it' with fabric! I'm always scared to cut into any fabric, thrifted or not, unless I have a pre-planned design. It's hard for me to imagine the result from a flat piece. And of course everything you wear looks fabulous on you!

Gorgeous! The dress reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara if she decided that velvet drapes would be too hot for summer, so she used a tablecloth, and she wanted it to look like a Monet painting. I love this dress!

I would consider removing the dye with oxiclean and dying it again! It is so gorgeous and you are so clever. The movement in the lower dress is perfection. I love the way you kept going instead of tossing it out as a fail. It would be gorgeous for a spring wedding/event as a pastel, if you decide to change it. I also love the ecology of reusing fabric!

You are a flipping genius. Using the gores like that was the perfect way to flare the skirt but keep the scallop edge. Such a beautiful shape. And I can't believe how fearless you are with dye! I'd be terrified that I would ruin my beautiful creation. If I try this, I will dye it first to limit my losses if it doesn't turn out.

The tablecloth is crocheted with a very thin yarn. It's very similar to cross stitch or embroidery yarn. I absolutely love how the dress turned out. It is gorgeous and you are so talented. When you modeled the dress, I liked the first slip and the black bodysuit. If the white slip was a little longer it would've looked nice, too. I was thinking a nude bodysuit would work as well.

Re: dying… soak fabric in a soda ash solution. This will allow the dyes to ‘take’. After dying there is a fixative (purchase at Dharma Trading). Three steps 1 ) soda ash 2) dye 3) synthrapol, wash to set dye.
Your dress is stunning. My suggestion is only if you want to experiment with the dying process.

It came out gorgeous, love the end result. For anyone curious, it’s not a ‘gore’, but is actually a godet. It’s an insert, whereas a gore is typically an equal sized piece where you sew multiple together to create the whole.

That tablecloth was just beautiful, so you started off with some great textile. You really got a great eye on picking the fabric/tablecloths that will give you more bang for the money. I had trouble flowing the direction, but I am sure it just me. First, I was wondering why you choose to dye it and I was terrified when you took it out the wash, glad you did not give up on it. I love the end results of the dye job; it gave a watercolor effect. The styling with the tulle skirt was my favorite look. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come

That's a beautiful dress. I often make tops from lace tablecloths. I even dye them sometimes if they are found off color. Rich reds & greens etc. Added lace from a tablecloth to the bottoms of pants. Took 2 of the same tablecloth & added it to a plain cover let and did the same w/ pillow cases. I put the lace over a pr. Of purchased pillow cases. Etc. You can go wild w/ lace tablecloths, curtains too. Sheer curtains can be machine embroidered and made into clothing. And the list goes on.............Lace in fabric stores are VERY expensive. I'm on a really tight budget, so lace tablecloths, curtains etc. Do well. Sheer curtains too. Even rich colored cotton tablecloths.

Love the results! If you're unsure if a fabric is cotton or polyester you can do a burn test. Take a small sample and put it in a saucer, if it crinkles and looks plastic when you burn it, it's polyester. Cotton turns into ash, almost paper like. Hope this helps someone

I love the beautiful muted pastels I think I gave so much dimension to the peace especially with a beautiful tulle underskirt!! Oooo I love how the colors turned out! It looks PERFECT for the spring and summer! I especially love the tulle, but I always tend to love black and edgy clothing, so the fact that you went with the body suit, omg STUNNING! Either way, sweet or spicy, you are rocking this dress! Ever since you started playing with gourds, ive been so tempted to try them, but I don't have any flowy skirts to open, or even a cotton shirt to upcycle, i'm looking at my suede and leather skirts and dreaming of figuring out how to do a pleated skirt, without completely cutting the leather skirt, keep the waist band and details, but have it pleated with the gourds in the suede. Ahhh i'm terrified! Would love to see you try something with a sturdier fabric, just to make me feel less scared to do it myself! Love your diy! You are so inspiring! Especially to free hand and drape cloth, i've been so limited to patterns, and now i'm pinning things to my body (i don't have a dress form, but what form is more perfect than yourself?!) and i have never had as tailored of a closet, as i do now!

I love it!!!!. The first dye with the green I even liked that, but the dress turned out beautiful! Thanks for showing the different ways to wear it.
