- This is a quick video on how to program your transponder keys once they are cut! You will need two keys that are already programmed. You can find keys (ebay) and how to program your specific vehicle online (google). Once you get the keys, you can get them cut at walmart for free (in my case) or at a locksmith or hardware store for cheap. This video is specific to the Jeep Wrangler JK (however most Chrysler vehicles are the same).

It worked! I bought 2 keys for $15. The locksmith was going to charge me $45 to program the keys. It took me 3 tries but it worked on the 3rd try. I was misunderstood on when to take the new key out. Now I have 2 spare keys! Thanks for saving me $45!

Finally, a video with a method that works! Watched several videos with methods that didn't work, with weird gas pedal holding, counting seconds, etc... all garbage. This one worked on my 2013 Sahara. THANK YOU! I now have a third key fob that works, even the remote start!

This worked great on my 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ Sport. The light is a key symbol in the top left corner of the gauge cluster. I used two different keys that were already registered. Then the new one.
Excellent tutorial, I followed along and I now have my 2 spares for $15 on Ebay, $10 for local locksmith to cut. That's the hardest part is finding one that will cut your key.
$10 for two keys?! That is one damn cheap locksmith! I ended up cutting my own key with a cheap key cutter (NOT designed for keys with gigantic fobs attached) and a Dremel. Managed to get it done well enough that it works.
@@Dosbomber it's a small local shop. I tried everywhere and eventually found this guy in a really small shop. Like a back part of corner deli set up for his business, lol
I just tried it on my 2007 300c and it worked :) I had only one working key, and had to re program second one. It worked with one working key. Thank you buddy

@@mrfxr1695 I know that, but what procedure did you follow? Because you're supposed to have two different working keys in order to program a third key. Did you use your one, original key for both step 1 and step 2 of the process?
@@XtremiTeez it was 3 years ago and I can't remember exactly. I remember that I've used good key, followed that video and managed to program second one, that stopped working a while ago. I can't remember exact procedure, sorry
I'm going to repeat this same message for several videos on this topic. I'm glad this procedure seems to have worked for any of you, but I must be dumb as a rock. Because I have followed these instructions exactly with zero luck.

Thanks for this info, just used your info to program my Dodge Magnum 2006. Works great, just a little info to add, if you don’t go through the programming process it will still start, but turns off as soon as you put it in gear.
I only had one working key got Ace hardware to cut the new key for me and it works thanks for your video

I just put the one working key in twice and then I put the new cut key in and it works Ace hardware cut mine for free. EBay $9 bucks for key

@@joshhall120 Both his keys in the video are chipped keys. The gray keys do have transponders in them but no remote buttons.

I'm so confused... first key is your factory key? Turn that to On. Wait 3 secs. Now insert a 2nd key, is that also a factory key or one of the new ones?
worked for 2007 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo. I had three key, one with broken chip, one working and also a blank with a working chip. My local lowes and home depot couldnt cut the blank one for me and the locksmith wanted to charge me $68-80 to cut it. I started with the key with the broken chip, then put the good key in. Then when it was in programming mode i took the chip from the blank key and put it in the one with the broken chip. put the key in(the sound didnt come on for me) but i tested it and it worked.
There's another video floating around, with the exact same procedure being used on a Grand Voyager - makes sense, both cars are Chrysler products.
Can confirm that in a 2007 Jeep WK you need 2 programmed keys. I think only the 2005 you could use the same key twice.

yes, i've answered this a couple times already, but as long as you have two keys (remotes or valet), you can program as many keys (remotes or valet) as you want.

I only have one grey transponder key (no remote fob with it) can I program new key fobs off that single grey plain key? It's the only key that came with my used 2011 Jeep wrangler Sport Unlimited 4 door.

Ernest H you need two keys to program another key. (Either remote or nonremote key, you just need 2) Cut the keys you bought. Head up to the dealership or the local locksmith.
Chris Meacham I will let you know how it goes. Apparently is a common problem on jeeps wranglers, where the key fob stops working to lock and unlock. I have read a lot of blogs on that. 🤦🏻♂️

Two questions. Do you know why you need two keys? And also what led kit are you running?
Betamonster not exactly sure, probably some random Chrysler quirk. And at the time I was running a set from superbrightleds.com but now I’m running some bulbs from amazon (you can get a ton for cheap, and they produce good light). You can find the sizes for the interior lights with a quick google search!

jesus guardado should work with at least ‘07 and up. If it has the same style key fob then it could work. If not, you can google the programming instructions for your exact model and there is good info on the web on how to do it.
Does this program the remotes as well and to start the car? Or is this just for 1 or the other. I have 2 keys that start the car but one the lock button doesn’t work and then the other the unlock button doesn’t work.
AKWASHERE2015 maybe the fobs circuit board is broken. Highly unlikely just one button wouldn’t work because of a programming issue
Chris Meacham circuit board works great im just missing the metal contact on both and each time I rig it it just moves sometimes and then don’t work again it’s annoying lol, so this shows u how to program both the remote part of the key and the engine start? These are the original keys.

maybe to replace a worn key that still 'kinda' works, but is close to falling apart. Mine just fell apart today, and the chip was lost. Apparently I'm screwed until the dealer opens on Monday. (only key I had)
All you video did was program the keyless entry. Did the programming allow the vehicle to run with the new key? That's the question. Keyless remotes are simple. You can put up to 8 remotes onto most vehicles. Again, does this procedure actually program the transponder that allowed the car to start and stay running

The key I use to start my car, is different from the one I use to unlock it due to having to buy a different door piece for my car.. will this still work ? I’ve already ordered the keys u have on your description 😭 My problem is every time I unlock my car and I open the door... the alarm goes off until I start the car with the different key🤦🏻♀️ idk of this made any sense
if you still have the old door, switch the key cylinders (so you have a full matching set of locks)

Hi so I bought a Jeep from the dealership and it only came with one key that is the transponder key. I would like for my car to have the key with the buttons. How would I go about programming the keys and the process. My Jeep also has the basic package so no power Locks or anything.
Pamela Caceres if you don’t have power locks, the remote key with buttons won’t work.

Kathy I. They don’t have to be original. They just need to be programmed to the car. You need two keys already programmed. Doesn’t matter if they are the originals or not.

So I found a loose Magnum key fob in the junkyard while getting some pieces for my Magnum, do I just need to get the metal key part cut to match, then program the chip to work?

Hi I have a question would it work if you use an original key and a basic cut key thats not original would it still work ?
jennifer rocha all the new key needs is the chip inside, without the immobilizer chip, i don’t think the jeep will run. Not 100% sure, but highly likely it won’t work with a normal random cut key.
Unless you’re saying you’re trying to program w this key. You need two keys already programmed to the jeep to add another.

I try these steps on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but when I insert the second key the check engine light flashes and then the little red circle, so I turned it off and then I insert the 3rd key, again the check engine light and the red circle flash then the sound but the key doesn’t get programmed. Could you help me?

gazfam that’s a negative ghost rider. You will need to go to a dealership or locksmith if you don’t have a second key. To my knowledge it is impossible to program one at home without the second key

I have an old key that was previously programmed to my vehicle but vehicle has now been reprogrammed to a new key. Can I reprogram my old key to the vehicle?

Kimberly LaLone yes if you have keyless start (remote start) as an option.. jeeps without that option are missing a component that allows remote start

I went to AutoZone had them program and cut a new non remote key for $80 and went on amazon and got a remote key for $15 and program it myself saved a little money not going to the dealer.

They charged you $80 to cut the key? I went to a locksmith in an older part of town and he only charged me $4 for 2 keys
How do u program with only one key
@@Sooner28Girl The point is he paid for a chip-key to be cut and programmed into the vehicle (instead of a fob-key), and then, with the two keys he was able to self-program a cheap fob-key. So he saved on the markup a dealer gets for a fob-key. Bare-metal keys from your locksmith won't allow self-programming.

Anyone listening... this worked perfectly with allowing it to start, lock, unlock.
BUT the Remote Start doesn’t work. It only flashes 2 times, but no start.

mikey13b try switching the order of the keys you use (so if you use one key first, try using that one second). Not too sure what your issue could be. I never seen something like that, when both keys are programmed to the Jeep. Good luck

Perhaps the second key is a clone of the first, so they are not uniquely programmed into the vehicle.

g s are you talking about a 2018 JK? Yes. If you’re talking about a 2018 JL, then most likely not. This procedure works with all JKs.

I think all the modern Chrysler product keys are the same. But I would first try looking on google. Search your year and model and how to program a key for that model.

Areil Waikel it won't help you find your key, but it will help you program a new key to your Jeep to replace your lost one.
