    In this video I show you how easy (and HARD) it is to add a new key for your late model Jeep. This process is likely similar for a variety of videos... so check out the link I share in the video for detailed instructions for whatever vehicle you have. These are the keys I am adding: amzn.to/2yroqbV. You can also get versions of these keys with the transceiver (buttons) and the programming steps are the same.
    I added these keys because since I installed the Omega Excalibur alarm system, I no longer need the large factory Jeep key. This allows me to save some bulk and weight in my pocket.

    I 'finally' yesterday got around to getting this done on my 2007. There's a little hardware store in my town, where one day the young guy was willing to do it, but he couldn't seem to get one or the other keys anchored into the cutting machine. Yesterday, I took it to a small locksmith in Marshalltown Iowa who said he'd also need to program it. I said no, I can do that part; it's pretty easy. I asked to only cut one key so I could try it first. He literally cut it for free. Can't beat that. He has a new customer as long as I need a locksmith. I'll try the programming today (Christmas Eve).

    thanks for taking the time to do this series! I ordered the kit using your link and will be installing this weekend on my 14. Saving at least $250 over my original plan of having a shop install an alarm and getting remote start in the process (something I wouldn't have opted for if going through a shop). Pretty Awesome!

    Just wanted to post a follow up to this great video. I follower the steps in this video and it worked using my 2017 Jeep JKU. I purchased as four pack of compatible keys, two grey, non-factory alarm keys like the ones used as spares in this video, along with two key fob versions (lock / unlock features that look like his master keys). All four were able to be programmed and the two with the factory unlock/lock fob features also worked to arm and disarm the factory alarm and remotely unlock and lock the Jeep after programming. Nice work on the video! Keep them coming! :)

      Hey I have a 2017 jeep wrangler JKU as well and am wondering how I can tell if it has remote keyless entry? The dealership only gave me one transponder key when I got it but I'm thinking maybe there's a chance it has keyless entry that I didn't know about. I got it a few months ago

    • @danmulkiewicz5515
      @danmulkiewicz5515 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@annadorosenkov9138 Hi Anna, congrats on your JKU. I'm loving mine. I know some vehicles have full systems installed at the factory that are just disabled in simple ways that allow a dealership to easily upsell those features but I believe our Jeeps are built to order so are missing those key components.
      That said... It's a Jeep! So anything is possible given a good level of persistence and elbow grease.
      Here's a thread I found that discusses the keyless entry and remote start features along with discussions around retrofitting.
      www.wranglerforum.com/threads/keyless-entry.2139673/
      Also you may want to check your build sheet by inputting your vin online. There are a few easily Googleable sites that should be able to pull your window sticker with whatever options the factory sent to the dealership at the time of your build. This won't cover things the original buyer asked the dealership to add after the fact.
      Case in point, my friend bought a JKUHR and his sticker only showed keyless entry but we found a mysterious purple wire running from his fuselock that connected to a the hoodpin for remote start and concluded that the owner had that feature installed after the build.
      Good luck!

    I ordered the keys from Amazon using the link in the description. Lowe's refused to cut the keys. WalMart auto center was willing to do it but said they couldn't do it because they didn't know which "cassette" to use in their automatic key making device. A nearby locksmith cut them for me for $5 each in under 2 minutes. I programmed them using your instructions and they both worked in my 2014 Jeep JKUR first time. The locksmith said give the last programming step time to finish and when you start it, let it run for at least 30 seconds to make sure it keeps running.

    I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2005 Chrysler 300. Buying 1 key and getting it programmed at dealer was about $200. I bought 2 key fobs for each vehicle for less than 30 bucks total off of Ebay. Local locksmith came to my house. He cut and programmed all 4 for $105. So 4 key fobs cut and programmed for $135 and I never had to leave my home. I only had 1 key for each so I couldn't program them myself. I live in Warren MI. and had no trouble finding a locksmith that cuts fobs and programs them. Bright Lock & Key does whole Detroit metro area. I could have saved even more bringing the cars there but since I had 2 cars I didn't mind paying the $45 service call.

    I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic. I just took the blank to the dealer. $3.50 to cut it. I paid $120 at the dealer to program a key for my 2012 Ram 1500. Once I found out how to do it, I bought the blank, programmed it, then when to the dealer to cut it. Easier for me than trying to find a locksmith in my area. Less than $40 for a new key. The Mopar key I used costed about $34. I had to use a special commercial transponder key to work in my ignition cylinder.

    My 2016 would give out the beep tones for some reason but it worked when I did it last year. Had the keys cut near my patrol area where I work. Guess it helps to walk into the store in uniform lol. I ended up getting a large magnetic hideaway box from them for my fifth key. Felt like it was the right thing to do when they wouldn’t take my money to cut my blanks.

    This actually worked! However, I did not need 2 keys, I was able to make it work with one key on my 2005 Durango. I bought 2 new keys on ebay, and could not find a locksmith nearby that could do it for me. I then decided to go to the Dodge dealer, and they wanted $80.00 per key to program them. So I decided to give this a try using the one key I had, and low and behold, it worked. Thanks for the informative video and for saving me $160.00.

    Just programmed 2 keys I got from Amazon; Lowes would not cut them, went to Home Depot and the asst mgr said it would not work because the key machine asked if was a transponder blank. If you answered honestly, the machine turned off. An associate standing nearby said he would try it so he cut both (I paid for 2 Reg key blanks since they were nice enough to try it). Both cut keys opened the locked door and fit the ignition. I then programmed each as you outlined. Both keys work unlocking and starting the car. Many thanks. Mine was a 2018 Wrangler Sport. Made my weekend!

      You need t go to a locksmith, they’ll have a scanner to pull the pin code for the Jeep Wrangler and program the keys, I bought my own scanner and can now program my own keys, the scanner was around 300, it’s the xtool pro 2 on Amazon and the keys with fob were $30 for 2.
      That’s still cheaper than the dealer, the dealer wanted to charge me 350 to have 2 keys programmed to my truck, I wasted less than that on the scanner and fobs and now I can program keys for my other cars and my friends and families cars and make a little money off of that

    Hey CPO, do they need to be the two original keys? I bought the jeep used, and it only had one key, not sure if its original but it looks like it is, it has the buttons on it. I then had a transponder key made at the jeep dealer, so I had a spare key. So my question is do I need both original ones? Or is the transponder that jeep cut and programmed ok?
    Thanks CPO

      Jimmy Tierney they do not have to be original. They just have to be programmed. it's a subtle distinction but another way to make a key work is to clone an existing key. Using a clone key will not work with this process, but a properly programmed key such as the way I'm doing it in this video, or the way a dealer would do it, will work. I hope that helps! Based on what you said, you should have no problem.

      Jimmy Tierney as far as I'm aware... It's the same for 2007 and up. Hoping to get some work done on CJ's Jeep this weekend. We've been so busy with football and Lacrosse. He has a tournament Saturday, but we're going to try and make some progress on Sunday.

    Hello I have a 2017 jeep wrangler with two original keys I tried programming a blank myself using your instructions but I turned on the blank key after I thought it programmed and it only started for like 10 seconds...what are your thoughts

    • @o3djeeps
      @o3djeeps  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark That means it wasnt programming successfully. Try it again. Give more time between steps. Watch the light to see if it's responding..

    I had the same trouble with my Ford. They claim they don't want to chance it if they didn't sell you the key. I had to go to the Ford dealer. error!

    Sadly, I bought mine used, from a dealer, and it only came with one factory key. $350 to make another. NOPE!
    Great info, though!

    ALWAYS go to a real Locksmith for all of the keys you may need.
    The key duplicating machines in home centers and hardware stores rarely, if ever, get adjusted or get new cutting wheels. How many times have you heard tales of people going back to the home center or hardware store with new keys that don't work? Sometimes multiple trips back and forth to get a working key?
    You won't hear those horror stories about real Locksmiths.

    You should have gone to someone who knows what they're doing from the start. HD and Lowe's should not be in the key business. They can rarely tell customers how to install a faucet. Use locksmiths for locks. I'm a Florida locksmith. We'll cut it for $2.50 because if you know what you're doing you're not scared. The keys are expensive and a code from the dealership is $40.... But if you're doing that yourself that's not an issue. You can almost always save money by doing things yourself and by avoiding car dealerships. With the help of a local locksmith and some common sense you're bound to succeed. Good video.
