Ki is physical, mental, and spiritual in nature. Without those three energies; Genki, Shoki, and Yuki in sync, an individual's ki wouldn't be at its fullest.
In a way, Captain Ginyu should never be able to access the full potential of a stolen body...

The real question is why he never attempted the body change on Frieza.

@@MrKevin486 Keep in mind that moral codes are not one size fits all, to Ginyu it is moral that the strong should prevail, and while most of us will disagree with that, I can sort of see how someone surrounded by such powerful warriors could come to believe such a thing. Another important element of his moral code must be unquestioning, undying loyalty.
Similar to Moro, Ginyu didn’t pump massive amounts of iron like Goku or Harold, and they just couldn’t handle the gainz.

It's interesting to note that in Z filler, Ginyu was noted to be growing stronger in Goku's body as he fought Gohan and Krillin, implying that it could possibly be to not having enough time to acclimate to said body, and would have been able to fully adapt if he stayed in it long enough. Granted, it is filler, so it's not a totally solid argument, but I still think that interpretation could be taken if so desired.

Exactly. Ginyu should have been able to eventually use Goku's base full power without Kaioken. Which at the time would be 90000. Which means it would always be a downgrade from his original body which was able to reach 120000.

It implied Gynu could still learn how to master things like ki and spirit control (his technique of swapping bodies is swapping his spirit with another, so he can focus on the soul), especially when he was told what the problem was by Goku and the others. Kind of why they should have kept their mouths shut, lol
It does make sense that taguma was easier to control for Ginyu than Goku.
Maybe it has to do with body type or Tagoma's species.

Like he uses Ki to amp up his strength, but also to supress it (that's how Scouters can pick them up)
while Ginyu doesn't know how to properly utilize his Ki, he can use it for basic things like body swapping, flight or Ki blasts, he doesn't know how to amp up his power/supress it.
If he knew these basic things about Ki, something that Goku learned as a child then he could better control Goku's body.
Granted, techniques such as the Spirit Bomb, Kaio-Ken and other such abilities wouldn't be possible for Ginyu, Goku knows how to use these abilities, Ginyu doesn't and it seems that when they swap bodies, their memories swap aswell, it's not a direct possession where Ginyu possesses Goku and the original guy in Ginyu's current body would return in control, it's just that their literal bodies swap with their memories, so it's kinda not stored in their brains? (kinda weird i guess)
Would also mean that Ginyu could take over Frieza's body, be a metric fuckton stronger than before, but would have no idea how to transform or do other things native to the Frieza race. (or frost demon race?)

Interesting... but wouldn’t work. Sayains have to achieve a certain level of power before it’s unlocked. Goku and Vegeta were too weak before the fight with Freiza.
I imagine if Ginyu did transform, he would suffer massive stamina drain and be killed during the fight, and would likely be killed by Frieza after the fight if he won.
@@elderliddle2733 wrong. Goten and Trunks had very little to no training before they achieved super Saiyan. To transform, it's based on your emotions and rage. Gokus best friend died for him to unlock it. Vegeta had to accept that he wasn't the best and always going to be number two. The reason why Goten and trunks did it so easliy is because they are half human and show more emotion than a full blooded Saiyan

@@robinwagner7397 nah, apparently it's just a lot easier if a Sayian has already achieve super-saiyan and then has a kid. Gohan had to try basically as hard as Goku and Vegeta but Trunks and Goten both got it without any effort, but both were also concieved after Goku and Vegeta had become super-saiyans. Future Trucks likewise couldn't transform easily either since his Vegeta wasn't a super-sayian when he was born, even though his present version lived a relatively pampered life and still achieved super sayian trivially.
@@ZanathKariashi admittingly I always kind of liked that theory, it gels with the idea of the Saiyan's being a warrior race who rapidly evolve for combat. once you have the ability to push your body to those kinds of limits it could make sense that your children may have an easier time achieving it. Yes that spits in the face of science and evolution, as well as other forms of logic. but it's Dragonball, and they're aliens. it's not so far fetched in fantasy.
This brings up another question: If Ginyu hadn't stabbed himself before switching, what power could goku achieve after properly adjusting to Ginyu's body?
I still want to know what would happen if Captain Ginyu trade bodies with a fusion character. Or what would happen if a fusion character dies and you try to wish only one of the fused person back to life......also just as a small question but how did a witch get to a Kai planet? Was old Kai on a lower level planet where people can just visit when ever they want?

Defusing would perhaps send everyone to their original bodies, create two incomplete Ginyus in two bodies, or perhaps cancel out the time limit. Maybe swapping would be impossible to begin with.

The better question is...why was he able to somehow control Tagoma’s body and make him go from being weaker than super saiyan Gohan to being able to one shot Gotenks.
Tagoma was already that strong since he trained with frieza

Ginyu had several years to meditate and train his mind while being a frog.
The funny thing about this is that gokus body has a 'relaxed' mode and an 'active' mode and ginyu was probably not able to access his active mode just by pushing his muscles because he didn't understand how goku truly accessed his bodies power.
So even though goku is technically much stronger, ginyu could only access gokus power level that he would have if he fought like ginyu.

Zamasu probably had a much better understanding of ki, and the other mental/spiritual aspects of power than Ginyu did.
I've always wanted to get a Ginyu origin movie. He starts out as the weakest kid at his school on whatever planet he was born on and he's bullied non-stop about how weak he was. Then one day when he gets home from school his dad starts yelling at him and just treating absolutely horribly. So he just screws something like "IF CHANGED BODIES WITH ME YOU'D UNDERSTAND!" Which obviously accidentally activated change now technique and he and his father switch bodies. Then he eventually figures out how to change back with his father in the next day school he switches bodies with the coolest and strongest kid in school. Then he uses that body to join the military and eventually the Cold Force and continues to just switch bodies over and over again every time he finds a new person that is more powerful than him. So we could finally see how many bodies he's actually had over the years and what his original form really looked like. Cause I highly doubt that he is in his original body that would just make no sense with his one iconic technique being a technique that allows you to switch bodies and we see her use it nearly instantly after finding out Goku is more powerful than him.

What will Captain Ginyu look like when he reaches Other World? Will he have his original body, the body he died in, or the body he spent the most time in?
The body we see him 90% of the time, this purple one. Cell stayed in his perfect form even without 18 and 17, which shows that being the original body isn't required.
He should just be deleted like piccolo told vegeta before he blew himself up "you've taken the lives of far to many innocent people, when you die your body will cease to exist and your soul will be sent to a completely different world than the one gokus soul ended up in. Once there you will be cleansed and your memories erased and you will be turned into a new lifeform". No idea why it didn't happen to Frieza in super though. Must have forgot he wrote that : /

i think TFS covered this quite well. goku had a very unorthodox fighting style that matched his body perfectly. when ginyu took over he didnt know how to use goku's body... it would be like if you tried on another persons shoes and they're a size and a half off. it doesnt quite work right.
Unlike Frieza and the rest of his goons, Ginyu actually came off as a pretty smart dude at times, that and he genuinely seems to care about his team, which is a rare quality in the Frieza Force.

It's because Goku's power wasn't just some ability that Goku's body had. It was the result of training, something you have to have trained to know how to use. Techniques like the Kaioken and Kamehameha are things that are learned.

i just thought Ginyu was too new to the body to actually use it, like he can handle " only certain types of bodies " But non of them knew about it before hand, hence why they were all so shocked when Ginyu had stolen a body he couldn't use, since Ginyu probably wasn't a Saiyan before hand or Vegeta would have said something so he wasn't use to human and Saiyan type of bodies
TLDR; he couldn't handle Goku cause he was a Sayian (just my thoughts anyways)
I wonder if there might be an aspect of biology in it as well. It feels like a lot of their power is based on heritage, kind of like someone discovering that they're a savant at something. Your base is an incredible talent but that talent doesn't mean anything if you don't push yourself. The whole Saiyan race were basically combat savants, they just had a well of power they could learn to tap into after enough combat experience or training.
I feel it's similar to Namekian biology and their incredible regeneration. All the times I can remember, Piccolo needed some time and focus to regrow a lost limb, hinting that while regeneration is a natural ability, something like regrowing limbs would take a lot more time for an untrained civilian. With Piccolo's combat experience and meditation, he was able to tap directly in the regeneration and regrow the limbs in minutes or less. I think DBZ's Nail kind of lends this theory some credit as he was the strongest warrior on Namek and he regrew his limb fairly quickly as well. Plus, to a random civilian, they may not know how to tap into their species' natural talent because you have to lose a freaking limb to begin to attempt it. Even if guaranteed a limb will regrow over months or years, that's still be painful and annoying.
Leaves me wondering what exactly is the human's talent is. Usually you hear something like human spirit of not giving up but Saiyan's don't quit either. Their power boost from their emotions isn't as great as Gohan's but it's been made clear that his human half's emotions feed the Saiyan half. And I'm also curious why Goku and indeed King Kai himself didn't teach the humans Kio-Ken. It's dangerous and unstable, but you can master it with practice. And it could have had others stay relevant and give the Saiyan's critical backups to buy time, etc, even if they did have to do Kio-Ken times absurd number, it's not really too absurd to me seeing as there continue to be more levels of Super Saiyan to unlock.
And I wonder if there's a such thing as a Super Human. We have Super Saiyans, Piccolo is a Super Namekian, why not Super Human? Just make it require a certain amount of power and training and have the trigger be something different than the Saiyan's requiring a ***need*** , not just a want. And the Namekian need to fuse, even if it's only for emergencies and not something everyone is to keen on doing since at least one is going to half to lose their body, not to mention the rest if needing multiple fusions. I think it would have been pretty awesome if Krillian and Videl had both been able to keep up using Kio-ken and them being the discoverers of Super Human. It could add a lot more flexibility to stories. Oh, and 18 as well since she's human too.

@@johnquach8821 also ginyu was extremely staunchly loyal to freeza. But yes he very likely did have a hard counter to the ginyu body switch. Possibly even something as simple as ginyu not being able to access freeza's transformations. Maybe.
I was hoping you would do a video on why Captain Ginyu chose to spare Goku immediately after switching bodies with him instead of just killing him right away. I had two theories on this. My first theory is that ginyu, while evil, is an honorable fighter and felt indebted to Goku for sparing Jeice earlier and wanted to return the favor. My other theory was that Ginyu had spent so much time in his previous body and had grown emotionally attached to it so that he just couldn't bring himself to destroy it. Maybe he thought that Goku would bleed to death on his own or something and that he just didn't want to be around to witness that body's death. What do you think? Considering how evil everyone else in Frieza's army is, the fact that Ginyu spared Goku here I really think should be explored.

1. Their desires were not things that they needed to wish for, or may have been impossible for the dragon to grant. Gero only wanted Goku dead and I don't think the dragon can do that, since I think someone suggested that when Nappa and Vegeta were on their way to Earth. Cell didn't want anything but to be perfect and he didn't need a wish for that. Hunting down 17 and 18 was easier than finding 7 dragon balls. Bibidi just wanted to release Buu, and since he was sealed by Supreme Kais that was probably beyond the dragon's power. Buu didn't want anything really, and probably didn't even know about the dragon balls anyway.
2. He probably would have just destroyed some stuff then gone back to sleep. They would have been screwed if he woke up looking for a fight, since during the Frieza saga no one was around to be any challenge to him. If he had come to Earth looking for a Super Saiyan God to fight, he would have been disappointed and probably destroyed the planet.
3. They never had reason to. They only time they met while on opposite sides, Piccolo was killed by Nappa before Vegeta needed to intervene.
4. Goku (or even Gohan) would have easily defeated Majin Piccolo. Vegeta would have returned to normal when Dabura was defeated and been pissed at missing the opportunity to fight Goku.
5. 18 would probably not play much of a role in the series after Cell is defeated. Wouldn't really be an issue until the Tournament of Power. They might not have been able to recruit her or 17 for the universe 7 team. Krillin would also be weaker since he trains by sparring with 18.
6. Who knows? Just went on living his life, I guess.

In an old game by Bandai it states that this is Ginyu's original body, he created the technique prior to joining the Frieza force and first used it in high school stilling the body of a popular kid before switching back but of course it's a game and it's really Canon but it's the only thing that delves into his past

I always thought of it that in terms of his physical body he was only as strong as Ginyu was in his body, and that the rest of Goku's power comes from ki control. like the unity of mind body and spirit type training that Goku did let him refine how he moved ki in and with his body.
so in the same way he was able to suppress his energy he was able to amplify it, which was absolutely *not* the way Ginyu's always-on power worked

you are spot on with this. You can even see its repercussions in later manga. Durring the Morro arc, Vegeta trains on Yardrat and despite very little of the training being physical, he was able to achieve a massive power boost just by learning how to control his ki. Friezas forces, including vegeta up until that point had been brute forcing power, training their bodies but not their spirits or minds. It is the combination that is supposed to be the way to get true strength.... buuuuuuut meditation isn't as action packed or marketable so it kinda gets left to the wayside often.
He never learned the Kaio-Ken technique but I'll still watch this video.
great video! later on in Super we have proof that Ginyu is able to unlock someone's full potential instantly when he switches bodies with Tagoma. If I remember correctly, one of the characters said Tagoma wasn't fighting at full potential. When Ginyu takes the body, he immediately releases all it's power, implying he normally is able to make use of a changed body right away.

To get Goku's accurate power level you have first have to go off the assumption that he was at least as strong as Vegeta pre-gravity training; so before he even left earth he was around 18,000.
Now just going off the multiplier of 100x normal gravity which was 10x King Kai's planet; you should assume he should be around 180k just by getting used to 100x gravity.
Now keep in mind that Goku's power level fighting Raditz was only 418 and it was 8,000 (dub incorrectly states 9,000 which was the meme) when fighting Nappa and Vegeta; which means he increased it by 18x give or take from 10x gravity training. 10,000 is far too low considering he was smashed to pieces fighting Vegeta, leading to the Saiyan's ability to grow stronger the more damage they take, then the training he snuck out the hospital before he was fully healed. Consider how much Vegeta's base PL grew after each battle on Namek. He lost to Zarbon the 1st time, murdered him the 2nd time, then got fucked by the Ginyu Force, only to heal and then fucked Jeice and Ginyu much like he did with Zarbon and even when on to be even with 1st form Frieza.
Now based off Goku starting his training at 20x and was struggling just like he did when he arrived on King Kai's planet; you can assume he didn't just get 5x stronger which means 90k is obviously too low for a base. From here you can say that 180k was his true base level of power; not from kaio-ken. Going by logic; Daizenshuu 7's battle power guide is incorrect in stating it was only 90k.
They also stated Goku's SSJ PL during Freiza was 150,000,000 which means his base MUST BE 3,000,0000 for the 50x multiplier.
If anything, if you follow the same improvement post-King Kai training; he is underwhelming in comparison. Gravity training should be considered a baseline multiplier just for getting used to it.
That's what I love about Goku! He makes even his enemies want to do better and potentially destroy him lol! As you mentioned Vegeta and Frieza are two prime examples. Frieza was especially hilarious on his take of training, but before Goku he didn't really need to before, and he was pissed off about it lol XD !

I'm glad you mentioned plot armor at the end, because even if a body takes a while to "break in" as it were, it's clear captain Ginyu has done this for a long time. He should be able to AT LEAST get Goku's body to its base power level and use it effectively, even if he can't use things like the Keiyoken (spelling?), he should have at least been able to make it to the base line of 90k.
The going down all the way to 20k, seems like a plot hole. That Akira did not think all the way through (which I can believe. Apparently the guy barely planned anything and was mostly a master of improv).

He wanted the body that had 180k of power, the problem was, that goku was weaker than him, being his natural max at 120k. Goku only achieved it with the kaioken times 3, being around 60k when he arrived at namek. He wasn't able to tap into that 180k because he didn't knew that goku was using a technique that triple his power for a short while

Makes me think of back when me and one of my friends played yugioh. We had both refined our own decks over multiple formats and tuned them finely and had played so much against each other the mind games were intense JoJo level of nonsense, to the point we were able to say "you are now going to..." and odds were good we were right! However we decided for a giggle to just swap decks, see if we could use them. Normally watching the decks in action was fluid and things just seemed to happen, sometimes from nowhere. Yet here we were..."How the HELL do you make this go?" So we comically played with hands revealed and pointed out the "lines of play" to do and laughed. We swapped decks back and things went straight back to normal.

The situation is basically training as a warrior and training as as fighter. A fighter usually fights in short periods of times usually against one or two opponents so they train to get a short term strength boost . Yes Goku fought against Red Ribbon army in the past but at that point only platoon leaders had a real chance against him. Meanwhile warriors assumed to fight in a long period of time focusing on a more stamina based training that saves their strength to keep it a certain amount for a long period of time in a war you also have allies so you don't need to be out of reach strong since combined power of a team is more important.
For a warrior short burst of strength increase at expense of stamina is worst thing you can do so they actively avoid doing that as part of their training.

My thought was always that goku could supress his power down to that level and that ginyu just didn’t know how to unsupress it/tap into it
I think their alignments had a fair amount to do with it. That an evil spirit wouldn't be compatible with good ki like trying to install windows on a mac directly.
Should also note, as the series hinted at and Super verified, Pretty much all of Frieza's forces were just naturally that strong. The concept of training to foreign to them. That's why even the guys that were roughly around Zarbon's level ended up in the range of Buu saga characters after training with Frieza. It's like someone that has no control of their legs body switching with a body builder. They have an awesome body but they lack the idea of how to move properly.

I feel like this is a very complicated explanation for the fact that Goku’s ability was largely why he was advantaged and his power boost only came from external techniques which captain Ginyu didn’t know and likely couldn’t perform. The swapping of bodies was supposed to be a short-sighted strategic failure from Captain Ginyu’s perspective because it highlights his view of fighting as a numbers game rather than a test of ability and the application of knowledge learned and perfected over large periods of dedication to the martial arts. I believe it’s the same mistake Vegeta makes against Hit in super, as he views the lack of power from Hit as a sign of weakness and is completely caught off guard by Hit’s fighting prowess and focus on technique to make up for the physical limitations of his body.
I love when goku is evil or his image has a scouter like Ginyu, turles, and Zamazu” No scouter” it makes me think about how goku would have acted if he never hit his head and stayed as a evil saiyan

Captain Ginyu forgot to input the Konami Code or Contra Code, after he took over Goku's body lol.
For me the reasons are:
Lack of practice: New body needs time get used to.
Not knowing the source of power: Saiyans are powered by rage and anger and he would not know that.
Technique: Ki control and Kaioken being techniques they weren't something Ginyu would be able to do/replicate.

I know what I'm about to say is from a video game however in xenoverse 2 if you have Ginyu as your mentor and you do fu's mission with Goku black Ginyu will steal his body and be able to use rosé saying he learned to control every aspect of Goku's body.
It always impresses me that he still has his possession powers in a new body...Would suck if he couldn't well you know transfer bodies afterwards...
Still regardless I think it's because he never had a connection to his body like Goku had, and he never learned the techniques to help him train like Goku has...

Maybe Ginyu's people are people snatchers, and they are too weak and defenseless to fight others. So they transfer their minds and souls into the more powerful fighters and what not...
I have always wondered what would happen if Ginyu had more determination found a way to escape from being a frog sooner then DB super only to try & get back with frieza.
The real question is why Captain Ginyu couldn't use Bulma's genius intellect when he possessed her body. The possible inventions he could make without the the restraint of moral ethics is scary...
(I mean consider the idea of him making something akin to Android 20's power draining mechanism, then slowly leaching the strength from Goku's body over time with Vegeta, Gohan & Krillin fully outmatched by Frieza. He'd possibly be hoping to either take all of his techniques/spirit with an unneeded Porunga wish or even using a further invention. You have to understand that this is the body/mind of the woman who would discover time travel, something even the kais/gods were shocked & scared of, the possibilities are quite near infinite...)
I'd compare it to swapping vehicles with your friend. Each of you would be unaware of how the other persons car handles at first, but eventually you would get used to it, but still never reach the level of comfort as the original owner had.
I believe it is because of ki control no Frieza soldiers have a control of ki we know that a control over ki allows you to get stronger and also raise your defenses I think that at that point in the story Goku's true base was 20'000 because he wasn't amping himself up with ki like normal humans and can die to something like a ray gun because his ki isn't powering him up
Id assume the Frieza force aren't allowed to train in a meaningful way and are picked to fill certain rolls in the force based on their current power levels. Hence the reason why members like Qui, Dodoria and Zarbon are shocked when Vegeta's power level was so high on Namek. Frieza is probably the only one who knows that training body, mind and spirit can raise your power level and keeps that information from his subordinates. I suspect the reason that Ginyu was unable to control the power initially is he was missing one crucial piece of that. The mind. If I remember correctly though as the fight continued Ginyu was able to begin to tap into Goku's power and his power level did start to go up.
I feel that the Goku Black arc also proves a lot of your points. After all, Zamasu had been training like a martial artist as well, not to mention that he had least trained for months in Goku’s body before enacting his plans. That’s why he was able to be on par with SSGSS Goku while Ginyu would probably still struggle with just Kaioken.
He could. He just wasn't aware of his techniques like Kaioken and how to manipulate ki in certain ways, that allowed things like sensing life force yourself, powering up and down beyond how Freeza and his forces knew to. That was him using Goku at his fullest without everything that made Goku special (vs Vegeta at the time and the rest of the actual antagonists)
Well I always thought it's because at that time period Goku was holding himself up with Kaoken and Ginyu just simply didn't know how to do that so it was like Goku with all of Ginyu's moves and that meant a good portion of Goku's power was gone.

The reason GokuGinyu wasn't as strong as Goku, is because most of Goku's power comes from his techniques. Such as Kaioken. Something he doesn't know.
what if ginyu only being able to achieve a fraction of the target's power is just always like that and the purple guy he stole was just ungodly strong originally and we never knew

ginyu steals his opponent's weapon, but it's some elaborate nonsense he's never seen and basically just hits himself. Goku doesn't really know how to use the huge hammer that ginyu dropped, but hammers aren't hard to figure out.
