Re: Chain of Memories wasn't released here so until i get a good enough PC to run it the GBA version will do. Not big fan of game but did like riku's story more. I dont use much tactics in battle, I just wanted to get the story. -

This was such a well-made game. I was blown away by how well such a complex system held up on the GBA.
My childhood was spending twenty minutes on the tutorial just trying to get Sora to dodge roll.

this was actually the first kingdom hearts game i've played.
I've been playing kingdom hearts 358\2 Days on my Nintendo 3DS. I don't know how far I got through it.

I like how the characters are animated in the speech bubbles, the DS games have just static images for their expressions

Just beat KH Final Mix and then started up Chain of Memories and I was really taken back by the Voice Dubbing. It's really cool but I was thrown off by the sudden voice drop of Sora haha. XD

This is the game that introduced me to kingdom hearts. I was at my cousin's house and I found a GBA cartridge with no title on. Just empty. I put it on my game Boy advance and read kingdom hearts.
This is a Blessed Story on how one got introduced to a Wonderful Series!
playing all the kingdom hearts games for the first time, and i just cannot get into re:chain of memories. i think this style is so much more fitting for the combat. not every game needs to be in 3d, it really just didn’t make sense

It’s about to be 2020 and I just picked up this game because I’m interested in trying the Kingdom Hearts series
2024 here. This game still holds up so well. One of my favorite Kingdom Hearts games.

I remember asking for Kingdom Hearts for Christmas and getting this instead. Had to make the best of it. That piano song on the title screen still gets me! Surprisingly good game for a gameboy game

You mean they changed "commit to memory" to "got it memorized"? This came before 2.
Anyone else notice how some of the dialogue was changed for the remake? Also, I haven’t played it, but this version is definitely better than the remake. It has its own style instead of borrowing from other games, and it works with the hardware. It also just generally seems more polished.
It was a terrible idea to port the GBA mechanics in to a 3D environment. The card system works better on the GBA compared to the PS4. And from first impressions, the pacing feels better compared to the PS4 where it's extremely fast paced. If you're not planning a couple of steps ahead to anticipate the incoming attacks, or setting up your sleights, you'll be wrecked in no time. I'm playing on Proud mode and it's killer. I'm just using sleights like crazy.
re:chain is on ps2 and 3 as well...
I liked the remake more cuz they added more sleights to use and some of them became super over powered like sonic blade also the nice voice acting and remaked ost
This was the first game I’ve ever owned and I got it for game boy when I was 5 years old, it’s something I almost forgot about (because I never finished) and so much of this I’ve forgotten about but there’s something’s I see that trigger instant memories of this game and I hope I’ll get to play it again someday and actually finish it :”)

The card system just does not work in a 3d environment, this looks way more feasible in a 2d environment where it's more controlled, adding in 3d just adds chaos with the card system. Though having never played the GBA one, I can't say, my only experience comes from RE on the ps3.

I remember playing this game and going with the flow because I didn’t know how to play. One of my first games that began my gaming career.

This is incredibly faithful to Kingdom Hearts PS2 entries at the time.. So well done for a GBA game. The animation, sound and combat are so lovingly made.
This version of chain of memories was my introduction to the kingdom hearts franchise. I had gone to a thrift store with my mom and there was a blue gameboy advance just sitting there for 15 bucks with a kingdom hearts COM cartridge. I bought both and as soon as I did, I fell in love with this game playing very late into the night most nights. I know this game isn't a favorite of most KH fans. But I personally love it for the nostalgia and feeling it brings to me. The card system isn't too bad either in my opinion...

I remember this cutscene in the beginning impressed me so much!! Sadly I got stuck in a huge enemy, that was a big Boss Battle...and sometging about Dark Riku or something....since it was a borrowed game, I never finished it....

I remember playing lots of the Sonic Advance Trilogy and Battle while riding on the School Bus. Also Gen 3 Pokémon which was my gateway into the Pokémon series.

As a kid, I remember putting the game down immediately when I realized it had the card combat system. I was disappointed it wasn't like the PS2 combat. Then one day I actually gave it a fair shake and fell in love with it. Such a fantastic game, every sound effect and song is still buried in my mind.
So glad this channel is giving some love to the handheld Kingdom Hearts games! Man I loved this one so much when it came out.
Playing Kingdom Hearts 1 and absolutely loving 2, I got this game and remember having the hardest time with it when I got to battling Dragon Maleficent. I just gave up on it haha
Marluxia is even worse towards the end and you gotta fight him twice!
I remember before I got this game I used to confuse it as KH 2 as a kid. A friend of mine and I argued one time about which game was truly KH 2 (we forgot CoM's title)!
I bought a pirated copy of this game on the ps2 when i was a kid and the box cover said kh4 on it XD now that i played all the games looking back at now makes me wonder why the heck who ever made the box cover wrote kh4 on it? It makes no sense, also we just got kh3 yay
This game and Birth by Sleep are the only KH I have ever played, but I like this one the most. I don't know why, maybe it's nostalgia, but I had tons of fun playing this one back in the day on my GBA.
Do you have a PS3 ? if that so, you can buy the 1.5 HD remix which include a 3D version of Chain of Memories and KH1 ^^

I just remember this being one of the most impressive GBA games at it's release. I loved this game, Re:Com wasn't bad, but it just didn't live up to playing the original somehow.
I think for two major reasons I prefer the Game Boy advance version over the remake version on PlayStation:
1: character portraits next to their dialogue boxes actually show the correct expression to what they're saying while the animation on the characters in the remake don't always line up making it look kind of off. Not just chain of Memories. In the other Kingdom heart games that were on console even after chain of Memories for the Game Boy advance the expressions are practically only one default per character. GBA actually shows a wide variety of expressions per character
2. Being able to actually see the whole battlefield save for the very far left or the very far right instead of having to swing the camera around to see bad guys behind you and when you're not in battle the camera that a nice isometric angle that allows you to see everything around sora within reasonable distance and not just where the camera is pointing
I'm playing through the Kingdom Hearts series again. I used my tax money to get a PS4 Pro (my old one broke, long story).
I've beaten KH1 and now I'm playing through Re: CoM, I'm pretty far and I enjoy it, especially the voice acting and all the extra buttons the DualShock provides, but I was thinking about getting Chain of Memories on the GBA. I really do enjoy the sprite work and I want to compare it. I beat it on the GBA many, many years ago, I don't think I ever played the Riku story.
But next I'll play KH2, then watch the 358/2 movie (I actually just beat the game on my 3DS in December), then play Birth By Sleep, the either watch the Re: Coded movie or play the game on my 3DS, then I'll play Dream Drop Distance on the PS4 (though again I kinda want to get the game on the 3DS but I remember it being more uncomfortable that the DualShock controller) then I'll play .2 Fragmentary Passage, then I'll watch the Master of Masters video (or whatever it's called), then I'll play through KH3 on proud mode, play Re: Mind for the first time, and play Melody of Memory for the first time.

The GBA is not just a portable SNES. The two have wildly different architectures and specs; it just so happens that the GBA had a lot of SNES ports and SNES-like games in general.

ChouChous Loyal Soldier - Well this one perticular installment was due to hardware limitations, but it was released after the original one for PS2, so the series was always in 3D to begin with.

also, yes only this game was in 2D, and Re:chain of memories replaces the need for such an outdatet game to be played :)
+MultiFreegamer Kingdom Hearts (the first one) was released on PS2 in 2002. I remember because i bought it on launch. Having played the Final Fantasy games on PS1 i was stoked for the collab between Squaresoft (Square Enix today) and Disney. There's never been a Kingdom Hearts game on PS1.

This game is actually the second installment after the first Kingdom Hearts was released on the Playstation 2. This game takes place after Kingdom Hearts 1 and before 2 (2 was also released for the Playstation 2)

When I saw 1/9 I just withered. But I should have know all kingdom hearts games are long. The cutscenes alone are hours of fun.

This was the first game I owned on the GBA.
Years later I discovered there was a PS2 version of this game. I never beat it though.
@SonicTheHedgehog17 Using the right sleights is pretty much essential if you don't want to see the game over screen all the time. Some bosses can be taken down quickly with the right deck setup. It's quite a strategic game, you can't really beat it just button mashing.

I just finished KH FM 1.5 on the ps4 and I am now playing Re: COM. I remember playing the GBA version but the Remastered 3d version seems harder to play.

upon replay this game is great and the decks are fun to build. What I still would have loved to have seen is a metroidvania style KH game
