Try Opzelura! Your dermatologist can give you a prescription for it. You can even google it and see the results online. It’s safe to use daily longterm too until you receive the results you want.
I relate to this a lot. I'm black and i have hyperpigmentation problems. I have the same acne scars as this lady on my chest and my back. But my face is my top insecurity. A few years ago my face got way darker than my body, and since puberty I got acne scars and big hyperpigmentated spot which take almost the entirety of each of my cheeks. Zero products worked on me. I even saw a doctor at some point, but was given a lame acne product who isn't affective, or even appropriate for regulated hyperpigmentation.
Your issues are probably caused by unbalanced hormones as mine where to. I started taking zinc, D3, magnesium a plant based collagen supplement and Saffron a couple times a week. I'm dealing with evening my skin tone and black heads. I have oily skin. Hope that helps
Yes i used hydroquinone to help get rid of my acne scars after my high-school years... i was obsessed with fixing my teen acne and more so the scars they would leave... luckily ive had clear skin in my adult years 🙌
@Ridiculousplayrunnaz no the scars don't come back... I'm just lucky not to have adult acne, I will say though since I scar in general due to melanin so when I get one either from a cut or something, my go to is a cream with it in it
@Ridiculousplayrunnaz and I will say I o ly use it directly one the skin discoloration and if there have been times where I could see an outline around the dark spot getting to light... which then I stop for a few days, it generally it always just evened out

Because we was always told we don’t need it… I never seen my mother putting on sunscreen or even talking about it… I just started using it and I’m in my late 30s and now sunscreen is my bestie
Hydroquinone for the win! If its used correctly at night and youre not going in the sun afterwards it works wonders. I have hyperpigmentation and I use glycolic acid toner, niacinamide, alpha arbutin, trenexamic acid and hydroquinone. Sunscreen during the day. My skin is so clear now I can go out with no makeup just concealer and sunscreen. I used to have to put on makeup just to go to the corner store because of my spots
I used hydrocortisone SPRAY for 1 week. It smoothed out skin, and inflammation. I'll probably use it 1-2x a week to maintain. Now I'm using kojic soap and apply vitamin C cream.
I’m a pharmacy student and upon my knowledge Hydrocortisone shouldn’t be used as a maintenance treatment at all!! It will reduce your good bacteria on your skin and increase the inflammation and sensitivity
Don’t use it indefinitely even if only once or twice a week. It suppresses your adrenals and you could end up with something called topical steroid withdrawal which completely messes up your skin and then even worse end up with adrenal insufficiency which messes up your whole body.
@@endor8witch This is not true. It CAN trigger hyperpigmentation IF you react badly to it. You're not explaining that hyperpigmentation ONLY happens if your skin reacts badly to it (for example, it causes a rash); the reaction is what causes the hyperpigmentation. Simply using the product does NOT cause hyperpigmentation. If your skin is not sensitive to the product, it's not going to magically darken your skin/cause hyperpigmentation. I am black and have been using a 12% glycolic acid (AHA) serum every other day for at least 10 years. I'm always complimented on my clear, glowing skin. Dark marks are not a "thing" for me. Ladies, Don’t be scared by hydroquinone, it is amazing! From my experience Hydroquinone pairs very well with retinoids and exfoliants. I am of african descent and live in Canada. A doctor uped my prescription to a composition made of 4%hydroquinone, 4%kojic acid, 0.05 tretinoin and some hydrocortisone. This is preparation has been working great. Hope this helps.
where I live Hydroquinone must go through consultation and instructions from a doctor, you can't buy it freely, and when buying you have to bring a statement/prescription from a doctor. Here the regulations regarding medicine and skincare are very strict.
@@marigold2741 I don’t think there are restrictions regarding the amount to use. You just have to make sure you apply it on the area you want to treat. Also, make sure to take a one month break from hydroquinone every three months. Good luck!

My biggest concern with hydroquinone is that I've heard many reports of people using it correctly, going to step down after 3 months to a non-HQ maintenance formula, and having all the pigmentation come back - often worse. This is from people who are doing it right, and wearing sunscreen. It would be really interesting to know how often dermatologists get that complaint and how they deal with it.
I don't know what to do??? Like I started because of my acne scars that were causing a lot of hyperpigmentation. Now, I can't stop. Low key, the moment I stop, within days, I am shocked how my face is changing for the worst

AND WEAR THE HOT DAMN SUNSCREEN LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. 😊. You’re welcome. 😇
I love your honesty doc, because you are one of the few docs on social media who even mentions hydroquinone! If used correctly and moderately it is indeed a PIH fader!
I had a derm tell me to use both retinoid and hydrocodone. Retinoid would increase cell turnover while hydroquinone blocks further pigmentation. Make sure to use sunscreen ofc! It worked!
Thank you so much for saying that about hydroquinone. I have gotten to the point of not telling people I use it for my dark spots. People just think you're trying to be a lighter skin color rather than treating a medical condition
If you are using 4% it takes about 2 weeks to start noticing a difference. If you are using 2% it will still work but take longer. Using it along with retin-a is best.

Just sharing my opinion here: This doctor is highly skilled and thoroughly versed in all relevant treatment. I've only watched a few of her videos. Some comments mentioned ethnic or race-concordence. Firstly you raise an important point. Moreover research indicates that POC often experience better outcomes when treated by dermatologists of the same race, as they can offer a more relatable perspective. This preference is often rooted in the comfort of connecting with someone who understands their experiences firsthand. They often share their journey, including treatments they've tried or similar challenges they've faced.

I had a dime sized brown spot on my cheek for 30 years. Finally did 6 months on Clinical Obagi system (with hydroquinone and Tretinoin). Every spot on my face is GONE.
My dermatologist. I wasn't sure if it would be ok for older skin (I was in my late 60's at the time) but it was fine. So glad that spot is finally gone. It was right in the middle of my left cheek so I didn't even use blush. Concealer made it look gray. Hated it! You only need to buy it once, it lasts about 6 months. Just need to be consistent & it will work.

A lactic acid wash will get her right and make the skin smooth. Hydroquinone will remove the hyperpigmentation but it will bleach her and then she will have to deal with the redarkening when she stops using it.

I worked at a compounding pharmacy for twelve years. Yes, HQ is safe, I use that term lightly with this medication, if used properly. Unfortunately, a lot of clients become so obsessed they overuse it. Also, the pharmacists were fearful to use this stuff. I learned to trust a pharmacist over a doctor when it comes to the safety of medications. But I still respect their opinion to use this medication. I’ve just seen it be used incorrectly over and over, and people unfortunately were using it to lighten their entire bodies. It was very sad. But the potential dangers of this medication are incredibly serious, and shouldn’t be blown off, I don’t care how well it works, or derms love it. I’m glad it helps, but that doesn’t cut down on the fact that these problems are real. Just be cautious and use as directed by your physician if you choose to go this route. There are other options out there, the problem is it’s a long and slow process, and I understand a lot of people aren’t here for that.

hydroquinone reduced my old acne marks after being consistent with it only a month .
Where do you get it?
@@laughingalltheway10 I think you have to get it prescribed
I remember when I was in middle/high school & needed hydroquinone to handle the severe pigmentation after cystic acne scarring. It was in a cream my mum bought me over the counter - way thicker than anything I'd have dared use, smelled like burnt rubber, but it worked so fast.
You remember the name please?@@ZijnShayatanica
Really? What kind did you use? My skin's sensitive and I'm so scared of another dermatitis episode smh
Please make a video on monobenzone 20% and 40% for vitiligo patients who are doing depigmentation.
Try Opzelura! Your dermatologist can give you a prescription for it. You can even google it and see the results online. It’s a cream that has been approved for both atopic dermatitis and non-segmental vitiligo. It is one of the few options we offer for vitiligo and some of our patients have seen amazing results within 6 months of using it.
So have your skin gotten better? Because I'm having this same issue and I'd like to know what you did pls
Also was the doctor you met a dermatologist?
Try a retinal product and stay away from scrubs.
Even tretinoin or adapalen didn’t work 😳
Your issues are probably caused by unbalanced hormones as mine where to. I started taking zinc, D3, magnesium a plant based collagen supplement and Saffron a couple times a week. I'm dealing with evening my skin tone and black heads. I have oily skin. Hope that helps
I thank her for her honesty. It helped lighten my scars, too, plus the clear skin effect ✨️
Yes i used hydroquinone to help get rid of my acne scars after my high-school years... i was obsessed with fixing my teen acne and more so the scars they would leave... luckily ive had clear skin in my adult years 🙌
wow your acne scars didn't come back after you stopped hydroquinone?
@Ridiculousplayrunnaz no the scars don't come back... I'm just lucky not to have adult acne, I will say though since I scar in general due to melanin so when I get one either from a cut or something, my go to is a cream with it in it
@Ridiculousplayrunnaz and I will say I o ly use it directly one the skin discoloration and if there have been times where I could see an outline around the dark spot getting to light... which then I stop for a few days, it generally it always just evened out
How do you use hydroquinone correctly?
@@Sarah.G_2 if you're talking about pure hydroquinone with no tretinoin mixed into it , use it twice daily, you should see results in a few weeks, if you do not see results within 3 - 6 months stop using it . I'm testing out different hydroquinone products since my favorite ambi fade cream was banned
Hydroquinone is amazing on deeper skin tones for hyperpigmentation !! It's like #1 for deeper skin tones tbh
My face is as white as snow and it was wonderful for me too. My grandmother used to use it as well and her skin was stunning well into her 90s
Thank you for positive remarks about hydroquinone. It’s the only thing that has helped me

As a black girl, I have never understood why so many black people don’t use sunscreen. ”we can’t burn” we might not become red but the sun does affect our skin badly too💀
Because we was always told we don’t need it… I never seen my mother putting on sunscreen or even talking about it… I just started using it and I’m in my late 30s and now sunscreen is my bestie
it helps with hyperpigmentation plus it smells good😅

Hydroquinone for the win! If its used correctly at night and youre not going in the sun afterwards it works wonders. I have hyperpigmentation and I use glycolic acid toner, niacinamide, alpha arbutin, trenexamic acid and hydroquinone. Sunscreen during the day. My skin is so clear now I can go out with no makeup just concealer and sunscreen. I used to have to put on makeup just to go to the corner store because of my spots
Do you use the Kojic acid Alfa abutin and hydroquinone same time
I used hydrocortisone SPRAY for 1 week.
Hydrocortisone thins the skin over time.
Lactic acid/aha+arbutin+kojic acid= chef's kiss!
if you are a poc and you've been using aha to lighten, you need to reconsider. those with darker skin should use bha as aha will trigger inflammation.
@@endor8witchrecommendations?
In fact, it's the product I've used the longest in my regimen.
@@anyaw340 good to know, my skin can't take more than 7% glycolic acid and even then sometimes it reacts with redness. so i stopped and switched to salicylic acid based on the recommendations of several poc dermatologists here and works like a charm. it even helps lighten the underarm area
In that order? Or?...
Ladies, Don’t be scared by hydroquinone, it is amazing! From my experience Hydroquinone pairs very well with retinoids and exfoliants. I am of african descent and live in Canada. Was first prescribed Erfa which is the brand name for 4% hydroquinone here. It faded all the dark spots that was left behind by acne.
Also, i cleared my acne with accutane.
About a month ago I was burned by a laser treatment that left me lots of scars on my armpits and bikini.
Should hydroquinone be used in the same quantity like tretinoin? Do u use them together?
@@marigold2741 I don’t think there are restrictions regarding the amount to use. You just have to make sure you apply it on the area you want to treat. Also, make sure to take a one month break from hydroquinone every three months. Good luck!
Do those products lighten the skin? I am an African too... But I don't want to lighten my skin... Can you let us know thx ❤❤❤
@@prossynannyanzi7072 It does lighten and even your skin tone while using but once you stop, your skin tone reverts to its natural colour.

Yep. After certain procedures on my face, i use the obaji set. Like after microneedling. I use for 3 months and thats it.
I had a derm tell me to use both retinoid and hydrocodone. Retinoid would increase cell turnover while hydroquinone blocks further pigmentation. Make sure to use sunscreen ofc! It worked!
I vote retinol. It’s what has worked the best for me.
Yes 🙌
Just started using last week ( 3 times ) and I see a difference so yes retinol
Use sunscreen for sure.
What brand did u use and was yours similar to the girl in the video?
Thank you so much for saying that about hydroquinone. I have gotten to the point of not telling people I use it for my dark spots. People just think you're trying to be a lighter skin color rather than treating a medical condition
Can u plz tell me for how long u been using it till u saw the results
If you are using 4% it takes about 2 weeks to start noticing a difference. If you are using 2% it will still work but take longer. Using it along with retin-a is best.
Yes!!!!!!!! My Derm formulated a Hydroquinone/Tretinoin cream that I use once every night 6 months on, 6 months off. Due to misuse, all of the compounds she mentioned have a bad rep.

Hydroquinone is one of the main ingredients in almost all skin-bleaching products. Please be careful with your beautiful black skin💕
Apple cider vinegar is great for the skin too. Gut health plays a major role in how our skin looks and how the body functions.
A lot of dark skinned people are of "kapha" constitution as described in Ayurveda and apple cider vinegar is AWFUL for anyone with kapha constitution marked 👍🏾

Make sure to do sunscreen because it will come back.
Where’d you get the consultation done please?
My dermatologist. I wasn't sure if it would be ok for older skin (I was in my late 60's at the time) but it was fine. So glad that spot is finally gone. It was right in the middle of my left cheek so I didn't even use blush. Concealer made it look gray. Hated it! You only need to buy it once, it lasts about 6 months. Just need to be consistent & it will work.
Hydroquinone when it's controlled. Alpha arbutin is usually very effective on brown skin and is related to hydroquinine.
I agree 100% thank you for just being honest so refreshing
Hydroquinone helped me immensely it literally got rid of my hyperpigmentation along with keto diet to balance my hormones
