Uh, NO - this is NOT "Everything you NEED To Know"! In good faith, I watched this video in the hope of learning HOW TO ADJUST these hinges.. I'm certain many others would expect the same. After checking your library I STILL couldn't find such a video. (Perhaps you DO have one - I simply was unable to find a title leading me to such a video). Guess I need to search elsewhere. Thanks anyway!

In your example pieces it was hard to tell which piece was the door and which was the cabinet. I figured it out but it wasn't obvious. Thanks for the info.

I have a couple of cabinet doors that have a round over on three sides and the center of the doors are squared off so that when they close they meet in the middle. What type of hinges do I need to look at so that when they close the round over is flush with the cabinet. Thanks in advance.

What product can you recommend I use to fill in the overwarn screw holes that I want to fill in with replacement screws. My end goal is to not have to be tightening up my hinges every few months or so. I want to use the existing holes where the screws were, that fell out of the hinges, but make them more permanent and less likely to wiggle free again. Also, don't let the critics get you down. I consider myself a low to intermediate level diyer and you did a great job explaining the basics of hinges.

I used Compact 33 2 part hinges on frameless cabs for years. In fact, the only Blum hinge system that really limits which style of cabinets you can/should use them on are full frame wrap-around hinges.
Very true! I have used frameless long armed hinges on numerous face frame cabinets. Most of these hinges can be used however you would like for the most part
I want to use euro style cabinet hinges for 1 3/8 full size hollow core doors in a regular door jamb. What is my best option?

Bets video I have ever seen on this subject. Thank you. I have a unique application. I have motor home hinges I can't find that are top mounted non european old style but have springs that keep the door up horizontally when opened and keep the door closed when closed. I can convert to eropean since I have the jig for that. But I don't know what hinges will keep the door open with enough force and keep it shut with enough force when closed like the hinges that are in the motorhome now. Do you have any suggestions?

How much weight can they handle if we use them vertically?
When does the use of a third hinge come into play, as it relates to the door height? I’m sure weight and width are factored in. But I have some frameless cabinets that will have full overlay doors that are 18” wide, made of 3/4” thick CVG Fir plywood. Should I use three hinges?
Usually you want a third hinge at 40” tall. If you are close to that height and feel the door is on the heavy side it can’t hurt to add the third hinge just to be safe
2:55 If those hinges are for face frame installation, what is the unused screw hole for? And, what happens if the door is opened beyond the opening angle say, if someone bumps the door while its open? Seems that unsupported hinge would just split the frame and yank out the screws... I watched all the videos in this playlist but, must have missed where you discuss opening angles and the reason there are different angles, and what for.. What is the standard opening angle? Why are most hinge angles 110 degrees or less, when a door that doesn't open all the way is prone to being pushed beyond that angle, potentially damaging the frame?

Thanks for the video! Is it possible to have a full overlay door with a face frame cabinet? I just built a cabinet with a 1 1/2 inch width face frame. I purchased some hinges labeled full overlay, and it definitely didn’t work.
Yes you can! You would need a compact hinge with the correct overlay
What about a rabbited door ? What would i use then ??? Older cabinets !!
So when I have 2 frameless cabinets joined together would I use full overlay with 0mm base plates or should there be a small gap between the doors?
Yes, you would use a 0 mm plate and an overlay hinge. It will leave just enough room for adjustments and for the hinges to work properly
How would you recommend measuring the hinges to find replacements? I bought a used armoire and the hinges are destroyed and I need to replace them. I tried going to home depot but couldn't figure out the right ones. I am trying to avoid any unnecessary drilling and using the holes in the doors as I don't want to invest in a bunch of equipment if I don't absolutely need to! Thanks

Is there any reason you would choose to adjust the mounting plate size rather than use a hinge with the correct overlay?
Since the hinges and plates are all universal you have the optioin to choose either way. For one example,This is benificial to shops that mostly use full overlay hinges but occasionally would need a half overlay. Instead of having to order a half overlay hinge just for that rare job, they could just buy a different plate for that job. When you buy the hinges in bulk you save money.
can you tell me what to order, for FF and inset door hinges . I built a router table with 4 different raised panels and I want to inset a door ,this cabinet is being used for Examples to show my wife, to decide the changes to make in the new kitchen cabinets. the face frame might be 13/16 thick and want soft close and i assume some adjustment , hinges seem way too complicated vs building cabinets, I've spent a 2 hours+ brousing the WWE site. thanks

I don't understand the confusing purpose of interchanging the hinge base when all you have to do is just purchase the correct hinge overly size you need in the first place. If you need a full overlay hinge, just purchase a full overly hinge or whatever size overlay you need.
Mostly this interchanging is for cabinet shops. They can purchase a certain hinge and multiple base plates depending on door clearance needs.

Bad explanation, no wonder tons of people still confused in the comments below. You need to properly establish the terms first for a beginner oriented video. What's a base plate? Inset? Overlay?

I'm sorry but this is too much information. You could've made 3 short videos explaining what parts do we need for certain application. One video telling people which parts to buy for 3 most common frameless overlays of 3/4", 1/2" and 3/8". Second video is for frame cabinets (some frames are thicker than 3/4") with those most common overlays. Explain which parts we should order for those applications., and third video for inset frame and frameless cabinets, keeping in mind not all frames are 3/4". Please make it simple. It would take European engineers to design such complex system.

Yep, thanks for making the video but have to agree. I’m a teacher and I’d have lost the majority of my students about three minutes in. Also, the face-frame section was a tiny bit, squeezed in at the end.
