+IblewuponyourfaceIII way back when jordan was asked how he'd like a fan to act and he said it would be nice if they simply said 'hi.' that's what i would have done and thought it was cool of him to say that. of course that was when jordan was still a human being.
@@TheRealAbraxasMan, people need to stop this shit, stop degrading players of the past to prop up your guys, you can make plenty of arguments against Jordon without shitting on his competition. The same needs to be said in regards to Wilt, Russell, Magic, Kareem, (even LeBron and the "soft" players that are his competition) or really anyone in the G.O.A.T. conversation
You ever notice that literally every NBA broadcaster or writer labels LeBron "the best player on the planet" - verbatim. This was obviously a league mandate because they all use the exact wording. That way LBJ can be the greatest without impinging on Jordan.
Very well done video. As a guy who watched Jordan's whole career on TV its nice to see that someone else saw through the programming. That same kind of programming is used in ways the average person could never imagine in our day to day lives
This is a conflation of the fact that the media is powerful and the objective fact that Mike is arguably the greatest player ever. Both can be true. Both are rationally true. Neither of which requires the other for substantiation. If you saw mike play with no media spin you would conclude, independently, that he's the greatest you've ever seen. Don't denigrate his legacy in service of a different point; that being the power of the media. It is the fourth estate. That's indisputable. Mike's greatness is as well. The assertion that he's the goat, which he himself questions, self depricatingly, can be substantiated by statistical facts and peer reviews.
@@MD-cy8uj they rate him higher because they actually worship him and the brand(probably more than god, which is sad). These idiots would trample over a Grandma for his shoes. Its sad how the mind has bee n programmed.
Jordan Brand is a billion dollar industry entirely based off him being the GOAT. Then Jordan fans will have the nerve to say Bron's using the Klutch Bag xD.
I wouldn't even say it's nerve. It's ignorance. They genuinely don't know how stupid they sound. The average Jordanite doesn't understand that Jordan, as they know him, is a marketing construct. They think Stephen A. Smith and ESPN just happen to bring Jordan up in conversations all the time and have called him the GOAT 100 times a day for the past 15 years because Jordan was JuSt So AwEsoMe!!!! They think this is a natural occurrence. Jordanites don't understand that they are actually paid to do it. They don't know that it's literally in the scripts for Jordan promos, movies and media spots to always call him the GOAT. Jordanites don't know it's fake. That's why they're Jordanites in the first place.
Because hes there God to them they will praise and protect him with all cost they can see this the evidence could be right in there face. it wouldn't matter to them they would still praise him if you say anything about MJ they would get offended thats how Jordan lovers are until the day they die
So I'm watching ESPN, and the 2016 Finals is taking place featuring the two biggest stars in the league. So, naturally, ESPN spends half their segments talking about Michael Jordan who retired in 2003. Makes sense. Then it kind of struck me that this may be a lose-lose situation for Jordan's legacy. If the Warriors win, they will have topped Jordan's Bulls. Steph Curry will absorb some of Jordan's light and the Curry hype explosion will get more fuel for the kindling Jordan discussion. And if the Cavaliers win, LeBron, who already gets acknowledged as being better than Jordan by more and more people all the time, elevates to a potentially fatal threat. I don't think the NBA believes this would happen, but I think the NBA underestimates how much the tide has changed since the pre-Twitter days where they pretty much had sole control over public perception. No matter who wins, the media coverage of the after effects will be fun to watch.
I thought that myself, ESPN can promote both teams positive because GW can complete the historical season or the Cavs can break their 50+ year drought championship season.
So my question is what is it about Michael that makes him or his stats the criteria? just like Tupac vs Biggie, Prince vs Michael Jackson...etc but I will say this look at the characters I mentioned think of who had the most talent and had the most impact.....that would lead me to Tesla theory on energy, frequency, and vibrations.....the package at the right time seem to supersede statistics as far a public perception goes..
5:02 ??? LOL did you adjust for the fact that the restricted area was 12 feet during Wilt's first few years up until 64-65 vs 16 feet during MJ era? Why not not show their career averages; leave in those years where the restricted area allowed WIlt to stand way closer to the ring or and no need to adjust for that little thing called Segregation (unless of course you think, as soon as the cvil rights bill was bill, the next day wh1tey was like. Sorry about that sh88 yesterday n1ggas, come on over and join my tam LOL) or even the fact that there as another league called the ABA both of which obviously diluted the competition pool .....so don;t worry about all that, just put up their career averages, regular season MJ vs Wilt, Playoffs MJ v Wilt.....no need to adjust for segregation, ABA, or even the smaller restricted area.... regardless of our difference in opinion, great vid!
+Harri v'Jah ["??? LOL did you adjust for the fact..."] No. Just like I didn't adjust for the fact that the NBA routinely changed it's rules to favor Jordan, or that Jordan played in an era when the top talent was never at his own position like Kareem and Wilt had to face, or that no one was allowed to touch or defend Jordan for the latter 2/3 of his career while Wilt Chamberlain was allowed to get literally mauled(the referees' words who admitted to letting players do it to him). Because that's all unrelated to the point being made there, though in that same part the video notes that stats are circumstantial. ["Why not not show their career averages"] 1) Because you typically judge players by their prime years, and 2) because they didn't play the same number of seasons so it wouldn't be an apples-to-apples comparison. Though even if you use career, Wilt still blanks out Jordan's scoring since he has the same career average(30.1ppg), so Wilt still blows him away thanks to the other stats. ["regardless of our difference in opinion, great vid!"] Thanks!
It amazes me how people try to tear this man down. Many legends including Magic Johnson have said Jordan is the greatest. You can make an argument for guys like Bill, Russell, Wilt or Lebron but people are acting as if Jordan wasn't phenomenal his whole career. Without the Wizard years, he's averaging at 31.5 ppg, has the highest PER of all time. Lebron is #2, highest playoff winshares, #3 all time in steals, 5 regular season MVPs, Defensive player of the year. That's not marketing. That's all fact. Can you make an argument for other players? Sure but let's not act like he didn't bust his ass his whole career to get to where he is.
let's be clear, it's a personal opinion on who should be deemed the greatest. I remember the 80s and in my opinion it was magic, Bird and isiah. In the 90s it's Jordan, Barkley and a few others.
Prepare its “the last dance” season. MJs hype is gonna come out again like if it were the 90s again. Awesome video by the way my bro. This should be on netflix.👏👏👏👏
Guilherme Vieira Wilt, Kareem, Russell you can also nominate Lebron or a Larry Bird as well since MJ couldn’t win shit in the 80s pre-rule changes & stars getting older, Lebron never got the rigging that Jordan does and often spends most games complaining about calls he doesn’t get unlike MJ who always got everything.
+MistahUnknown ["These are the plumbers, mechanics, mascots, concession workers, towel boys, bakers, and electricians that MJ was matched up against in his career:"] LOL
This is an interesting video. While personally I feel he is still the GOAT I get annoyed with people who can't fathom the fact that there are many players throughout the history of the league who have legitimate arguments to be considered the GOAT.
im still a big jordan fan.. he was my childhood hero... and me wanting to be a big basketball player like him (so i stayed in the gym, and my fathers belt that keep me off the streets i got nothing but love for him.. but with channels like this it becomes more obvious that sportd are rigged and that all of our soorts heros were in on the gig.. now i can see why God allowed for me knee to get jaked beforr my freshman year of college, even if i was good enough to make the NBA i wouldn't have been comfortable with my soul if i had to sell out for fame
+Charles Cooks It's the fact that they advertise it to fans like this is an organization filled with the best players in the world, that compete to see who is the best of the best. If they changed it to NBE (National Basketball Entertainment) a lot of people who believe/ care about the integrity of the NBA would stop watching. Just like when kids grow up & realize wrestling is fake. Wrestling is now WWE though, they let you know it's just entertainment
I'm not a Jordan jocker, but Bill Russell had 4 HOF players on his team. I honestly think Kareem and Wilt are snubbed from the GOAT conversation. Those two played in an era where sports was a competition, and not a fabricated brand.
Sorry for the delay, folks. I meant to upload this last year but I got kidnapped for a few months and lost track of time. Plus I had to keep changing the video a bunch of times from how I planned it since TH-cam can't make up it's mind on what clips are allowable from one day to the next. I'm sure they'll mess with this version too eventually.
+TheRiggedBA Really nice to see a truth seeker back. Great video with so much proof and excellent arguements. I'm really pleased to see you active again,I actually thought you might have been bullied for expressing your views as many are in our civilised, built with democracy, society. Keep up the good work!
As I Michael Jordan fan a tiny part of me didn't want to watch this video but it's my nature to be openminded and not have any bias. And I must say that this video is makes sense and definitely changes my perspective on the NBA even more so. I saw our 2 other videos on the refs rigging games and I can't take NBA seriously anymore and I love basketball. But this is a shame. The NBA is playing us for fools with most if not all the games and we pay billions of dollars in revenues to keep this going. MJ while he was a great player had his fame handed to him in a silver platter rolled on a red carpet. And he ran with it. Can't really blame him but then his morals are messed up. Wow. Great video.
as being a partial party, not taking a direct side. there is a lot of bias and bull people come up with to raise MJ up. just look at the nba 2k video game, mj Is the only player allowed to have a 99 overall rating, no magic, no throwback 2012 LeBron, who had a 99 in the game from that year, no wilt, no shaq, no throwback prime kobe, no kareem. crazy. mj is the only one allowed to have a 99 rating.
Lol that's what I was thinking, why doesn't Kareem, Lebron, magic, or even Larry bird have 99 overall ratings, but mj, and almost every mj character from different years, has a 97 or higher
+amadodabeast exactly, they just wanted him to be the only 99 even though other players deserved it. hell, LeBron had a 99 from 2k12 but it magically drops to a 97 in 2k16. wtf
do you know why this is? simply because everyone agrees he deserves it. and they agree with enthusiasm. MJ isn't even moving a finger. people out of sheer awe to him do these things for him. if lebron make most people believe then people would lift him up too. he also has the advantage of being seen played as of current. so that there is pure belief in the ability of MJ. there has to be someone above everyone else and people WANT it to be MJ.
Thank you for this. People are blinded by marketing and bias. Jordan can be a person's favorite player, but there is no way he can be deemed the best of all time. It's ridiculous and a slap in the face to other great players with better stats to say that. Well done on the video!
I respect John Salley for just telling it like it is. Jordan couldn't beat the Bad Boys until they were old and injured, he could never beat Larry Bird, and he didn't beat the Lakers until Magic was near the end- and that finals the Lakers didn't have Nixon, Cooper, and Kareem anymore. Plus Byron Scott and James Worthy were hurt and didn't even play the last game. Jordan is Top 5 for sure in my opinion, but ESPN and the media blow Jordan way out of proportion because of the politics and money at stake with his brand. Salley was just keeping it all the way real.
Word up. Trying to tell people how jordan was just marketed as the goat is hilarious, people legit get pissed when u dont agree. That's how it is in every sport though, just not to the degree of mj. But at least mj was a beast at his sport, unlike the biggest fraud ever.. TOM BRADY lmfao
TheRattler33 No, Worthy tore his ankle during game 5 of the WCF so no he was not healthy during the first 4 games. He left the series during game 4 with 15 minutes left.
It is NOT more advantageous to push a contemporary player as the GOAT today for two reasons. 1) Jordan Brand basketball shoes/ clothing still outsell every other line of basketball shoes and clothing COMBINED. 2) By keeping Jordan as the GOAT, the league creates a false narrative that every new superstar is "chasing Jordan," which triggers a nostalgia factor of the 90s and makes fans want to tune into the Finals every year as Kobe/ LeBron/ Curry continues the chase for "6 rings." It is the same exact reason why the Warriors are still being compared to the 96 Bulls when the 87 Lakers and 86 Celtics were both greater, even though Golden State would smash all three in a 7 game series.
Exactly...Facts. Mad Max was no joke. H-Town love. I saw him contain Jordan many a time. Max, Hakeeem were not marketable according to merchants and the NBA. ONLY very recently have people been talking about the greatness of Hakeem or even Rudy T as a coach. Pure media drama about MJ. He was great but not the greatest. At the end of the day Hakeem, Bird, & Magic...hell even McHale could not be contained...where were the refs and rule manipulations for those guys????
Excuse me sir. I in no form or fashion put Maxwell on the level of anyone mentioned above. I only stated the fact that he played very strong defense against Jordan (was consistently able to stop him from going on a spree). Additionally any damn fool would know that Mad Max was not the primary scorer on the team, It was Hakeem. So the scoring list question is moot. The Bulls and Rockets had different offensive structures (Bulls = shooting gaurd was the primary; Rockets = Center was the primary. Reading is fundamental.
Interesting interview where George Gervin vents about why Michael Jordan is viewed as the GOAT: th-cam.com/video/I1sZPqH9GHg/w-d-xo.html For those who don't know, Gervin is a multiple time NBA scoring champ shooting guard and was teammates with Jordan for a year and his partial mentor, with Jordan crediting Gervin for teaching him how to maintain a high scoring average. However, Jordan had beef with Gervin over some perceived slight and was unfriendly to him, so they don't like each other.
Boyyyyy what you miss just going through the motions watching your favorite team. Those BS calls Jordan got, fouls his way, and fouls he committed. Thank you for this, a GREAT video.
thank you Michael Jordan for making basketball known all over the world, even in a third world country in asia. thank you for making nike a hot commodity. thank you for showing youth an example to love your parents, value work ethics and professionalism, bounce back and be strong during failure and adversities, perseverance and passionate about your craft.... great example of class, charisma and leadership.
thank you for cheating on your wife! having your dad's murder connected to you because your gambling habit, having kids in the ghetto stabbed for your 2 hundred dollar sneakers OH THANKU GREAT MICHAEL JORDAN......dude wake up go idolize your dad not some popular culture fraud
Lebron playing post mj era is huge disadvantage since so many other players were inspired by mj. And in 2019 it shows as on any given night it’s hard to say who is going to be the beast. Klay Thompson scored 37 in a quarter, Lou Williams can take over games.. so many seemingly average players can take over games now that perimeter shooting is a thing and refs can’t control it. Players relied on paint scoring and the refs in jordan’s Era. Mj was a beast but it’s unknown if he could adapt and shoot as well from the arc on a nightly basis the way today’s players can.
But I'd say having multiple beasts is the way the NBA wants it. I don't think they want LeBron or anybody else to be another Jordan-like phenomenon where everything is centralized on one player. That model is too unstable, as they saw when Jordan --got himself thrown out of the league in a gambling scandal-- retired and took the ratings with him.
What casual basketball fans don't realize and the maker of this video doesn't realize is that there are many factors to Michael Jordan being the GOAT. Its not just a certain "stat", but the combination and domination of those "stats", that make Jordan great. From the way he finished games, to his spectacular moves, to his under-appreciated defensive prowess, scoring average, to his mental game (yes, the mental game is a huge part in dominating the game) and his killer instincts etc. all make up to what makes Jordan great! Michael Jordan has dominated in an era of basketball that is more physical and with greater competition! Doing two grand slams is no easy feat. From the start of Jordan's career up until the very end with his mind boggling fairy-tale last shot is just unfathomable! I have seen and analyzed different era's of basketball and can say that Jordan is on a different level! I mean Jordan has set the bar so high, it would take a lifetime for it to be surpassed. I could go on and on. In short, Michael Jordan deserves all his accolades including, being considered as the Greatest of All Time!!! (And the fact is, majority of real basketball fans agree.)
What you don't realize is that the media invents and then propagates actual, codified standards for why Jordan is the supposedly the GOAT. Standards that they use to reject all other players and, as a result, have fans measure players by these same fake standards too. Because the majority of fans will just follow what they see repeated in the media. And as the video shows, when a player exceeds Jordan by a standard the media created, they just move the goal posts and create another one to keep Jordan on top. The main factor to Jordan being the GOAT is the media telling you every day of your life that he is. If not for the unprecedented media marketing, he would just be a great player but not necessarily viewed as the greatest. Especially when compared against more modern, advanced wing players. And the media is very aware of this, which is why ESPN makes some mention of Jordan and him supposedly being the GOAT every day in their programming, even when Jordan has nothing to do with anything they're talking about.
Jordan is the goat but it always amazes me how he posted up and bullied those small ass guards from the 90s. Bulls were smart in having Ron Harper as guard due to his size.
This was a phenomenal vid. I'm not mad at the marketers, but like you say for so long nobody would speak on it. People take it as truths. SMH. The real got em right there. I'll say this, MJ is the GOAT at being the leagues Cash Cow but that's about it.
Simply the greatest. Nba wouldnt be what it is today without Jordan, Bird and Magic. People still talk and make video about even if he was retired almost 20 years ago. Stats , mvp, championship, scoring title, defensive player award are some of the criteria but what sets him apart is work ethics, competitiveness, charisma, creativity and artistry, class, watchability and impact to the game, youth and people in general.
+vincesomerhalder People still talk and make videos about him because of his merchandise brand, which financially motivates the Nike affiliate, ESPN( the largest sports network in the world), to constantly bring Jordan up and keep him in the public discussion even though he has no actual relevance to the conversation today. The day Jordans stop selling, you won't hear about him any more than you hear about Dr.J.
How is being the best player ever have not actual relevance to the conversation today? He epitome of a sg/sf of course elite sg and sf today will be compared to him. What has that got to do with shoes? When they talk about frontcourts do hear MJ in the conversation? You see great players who played against MJ like Magic, Bird, Charles (whom you used in this video to validate your opinion) and etc, all admitted that MJ is the greatest ever. I think they have the more right to say about this matter than you and your pathetic video.
TheRiggedBA Wilt already passed away and yet when people talk about the most dominant big men players they always get compared to him. Wilt doesn't have that shoe contract like MJ so why do people talk about him? That's so irrelevant right? It's funny how you post leader in points just to degrade MJ's value as a shooter. You see Kareem only has 6k points lead over MJ. MJ on his 2nd year was injured and did not play almost the entire season. In his 3rd season he averaged 37ppg in 82 games. Easy 3k points in a season. Then he retired early in 1992 clearly at his peak so that's 2 more seasons that he didn't add point stats to his resume. So what if he played all those 3 season? Let's say MJ is having 3 bad years and only averaged 30ppg for 80 games. that's easily 7000 points enough to pass Kareem in the leaders. And if he did not retire after the 98 season he could have gone passed 40k points and hold a record that is unbreakable. You see your video is bias, and so are you. It's not that complicated. He is just the greatest end of story.
+devilarch ["Wilt doesn't have that shoe contract like MJ so why do people talk about him?"] Um, they don't. Wilt Chamberlain comes up in conversation once in a blue moon like every other legend who no longer plays. And when he is mentioned it's usually only in passing. Which is to be expected, since he doesn't play anymore so he's not doing anything new for you to talk about. ESPN hosts unnaturally force Jordan into a conversation every other day as a matter of practice. And while I understand you're emotional about Jordan, trying to suggest that Jordan's coverage in the media is just a normal, natural occurrence akin to Wilt Chamberlain's coverage is just silly.
If you actually think about it, it is much more beneficial for the NBA to market a current player as the GOAT rather than a player that hasn't played for 15 years. It's much better for marketing because the NBA and the media to say LeBron is the greatest of all time, or Curry is the best shooter ever, or the Warriors are the best team ever. But people still say that Jordan is the greatest ever because they actually remember how good he was and no one has come into the league that has been better than him yet. Experts like Larry Bird, Rick Barry and Red Auerbach were saying that Jordan was the greatest ever in his third or fourth year. That had nothing to do with marketing or the Jordan brand.
So...did you not watch the video at all...or? Those are points specifically addressed. But I do find you referring to these people as "experts" funny. Well, Bird in his "expert" opinion has variously said that Magic was better than Jordan, that Jordan was no better than either Magic or himself, and that Wilt Chamberlain was better than all of them. Rick Barry not only said that Jordan wasn't the greatest, but said he laughs at the idea and calls it "ludicrous". But you probably never heard those comments. The media tends to censor opposing views to the Jordan marketing.
There are a lot of points you raised in your video, I was just disputing your main claim that it is "company policy" for Jordan to be the GOAT, when surely it makes more sense for the NBA to say that a current player is the best. Surely if Jordan's status as the GOAT was created by the media/Nike as you claim, the media/Nike could just as easily create someone else as the new GOAT. The real reason that Nike was so successful with the Air Jordan line was because of Michael Jordan's game, not because of marketing. People wanted to be like Mike because of the way he played, not because Gatorade told them too. And companies wanted to be associated with Jordan because they knew how much people loved him and his game, not the other way around. No one actually thinks that Michael Jordan saved the world from cartoon aliens or that he can dunk on a 100 foot hoop. Your claims have no basis. You say that had Nike thought of it earlier, we would have been told that Dominique is the GOAT. But Dominique didn't have the game to back that up. He was spectacular, but he never won any MVPs, allstar MVPs, DPOY, Finals MVPs, Championships, Olympic Gold medals. No one was calling Wilkins the GOAT in the 1980's the way they were Jordan. And you show a dozen clips of questionable calls that go in Jordan's favor and say that proves the NBA is rigged in his favor. Anyone could show a dozen clips to try to prove a point. I'm sure you could find a dozen clips to say that Jordan was victimized by referees throughout his career. (I'm not saying that he was victimized). Rick Barry said in 1988 on various telecasts when he was commentating that he thought Jordan was the best ever, and that was in his fourth year. When did Bird say Magic was better than Jordan? That's a genuine question, I would like to know.
TheRiggedBA Here's some background to the rings argument. In 1989-90 Jordan had been in the NBA for 6 years. He had won MVP, scoring titles, defensive player of the year, Allstar MVP, rookie of the year, the highest scoring average in NBA History, Olympic gold, NCAA Championship. But critics would argue against him that he is a great individual player but couldn't lead his team to the championship like Magic and Bird. Then he won in 1991, 1992 and 1993, got two more MVPs and 3 finals MVP and another Olympic gold. That was when he became widely regarded as the greatest of all time. The championships were like the last piece to the puzzle but Jordan had already put together the work to be considered the best ever in a very short amount of time. I agree with you that rings are often overrated in the argument. Steve Kerr recently said he'd trade his rings for a career like Steve Nash's in a heartbeat. But Jordan's performances in the Finals and Playoffs should not be underrated. While other players struggled on the biggest stage (like Lebron in 2011), Jordan got even better. To me, that is even more impressive than the rings
TheRiggedBA also, it's not like other shoe companies didn't try to make the next Jordan. When Jordan retired in 1993 Reebok tried to make Shaq that guy. Fila tried it with Grant Hill in 1995. Adidas tried it with Kobe and Puma tried it with Vince Carter after Jordan retired in 1998 but none of these campaigns worked because these great players were not as great as Jordan was on the basketball Court. The 1998 all star game was a great example of NBC and the media trying to anoint Kobe as the next Jordan. If you don't believe me, just look up the halftime and pregame coverage.
+jxn23 ["I was just disputing your main claim that it is "company policy" for Jordan to be the GOAT, surely it makes more sense for the NBA to say that a current player is the best."] There's more companies involved than just the NBA, but you market who makes the most money. And as the video explains, Jordan, by virtue of circumstance and timing, still makes more than anyone else and will always do so for the foreseeable future since the conditions that caused Jordan to explode no longer exist. ["Surely if Jordan's status as the GOAT was created by the media/Nike as you claim, the media/Nike could just as easily create someone else as the new GOAT."] They could easily create a new GOAT. For that matter, they have to constantly fight to STOP a new GOAT from being declared. Because, again, Jordan makes the most money. Acknowledging a new GOAT would lessen Jordan brand sales, so they don't want to create a new GOAT. That's the whole point. ["The real reason that Nike was so successful with the Air Jordan line was because of Michael Jordan's game, not because of marketing."] Dr.J's game was relatively as exciting and marketable to his era as Jordan, so why wasn't Nike(or Converse) nearly as successful with him? Because the conditions for it didn't exist. The ideas hadn't been thought of and the media avenues weren't there. Most people didn't even get to see Dr.J play in his prime in America. When Jordan was in his prime, the whole country was being fed his highlights on ESPN while people were watching his commercials and buying his merchandise around the world. ["No one actually thinks that Michael Jordan saved the world from cartoon aliens or that he can dunk on a 100 foot hoop."] Adults might not think that, but impressionable young kids, the target audience for Jordan products, can't distinguish fantasy from reality the same way. And while you might not believe Jordan can actually dunk on a 100 foot hoop, the constant superhero marketing creates an air of superhuman ability and people literally believe Jordan has special powers. ["And you show a dozen clips of questionable calls that go in Jordan's favor and say that proves the NBA is rigged in his favor."] I didn't just show "clips of questionable calls". I showed actual commentary from players screaming at the Jordan bias and even referees themselves directly stating outright that the NBA rigged games for Jordan. ["Rick Barry said in 1988 on various telecasts when he was commentating that he thought Jordan was the best ever, and that was in his fourth year."] Not that I particularly care about Rick Barry's or any players opinion since they're just opinions like anyone else's, but here's Barry on Jordan's supposed GOAThood: th-cam.com/video/wNQNnXflHnI/w-d-xo.html ["When did Bird say Magic was better than Jordan?"] Larry, after sweeping Jordan, saying Magic was the best he's ever seen - th-cam.com/video/FoFbi-w-eeY/w-d-xo.html Bird also said more recently: "Is he(Jordan) better than Magic Johnson was at the peak of his career? No. He's the best for an overall period of time, maybe, but when you put me, Magic, and Michael at the height of our careers, I don't think you'd find that big of a difference."
Look it is television programming but Jordan is the first athlete transcended his sport to other the Michael Jordan of anything is meaning you the top of ya profession no matter what
damn I love these videos really changed my mind on the whole Jordan idea and what do u think about the warriors o feel like every time somebody tries to gaurd curry they get pushed away by draymond green. yesterday would be a good example as I saw russel Westbrook got pushed multiple times on illegal screens anyways good luck with your videos
+CELTICS ARE THE BEST the best player always gets star treatment its just how it is my spurs have gotten there fair share of bullshit calls so I'm happy
+TheRiggedBA yeah but like u state in your videos that's how its been since the Jordan era. its crazy how a corporation like Nike fucked up the sport so bad its a real shame tbh
@@bobbyd1632 this was a long time ago,Thw only blemish I could put on Jordan is the watered down league and the expansion drafts that kindve weakened the league
11:01-11:05 This might be the dumbest argument I've ever heard. There's so many contradictions here. >Michael Jordan wasn't the first player to get his own brand of shoes. Several players had their own shoes before hand. >Nike didn't have any legitimacy in the NBA, prior to Jordan. It was Converse and Adidas. Michael Jordan made it the #1 brand. >Jordan was given a contract that threatened to cut the deal if he didn't perform at a certain level. So even his contract was temporary. >The NBA actually banned Jordan's original shoes. It was the censorship of the NBA mixed with Jordan's accomplishments in his rookie year, that made the shoes sell so well in the first place. Yet, Nike is supposed to be responsible for Jordan being considered the GOAT? The amount of desperation it takes to make this argument is incredible.
He was the first to make billions off of it though. U really think MJ won 6 championships, 6 finals mvps, never went past a game 6, and he didn't have to strike a deal with the devil? Not the literal devil but u really think he was marketed that heavily, at no price or it is just coincidence? If so u aren't very bright.
As a HUGE fan of Michael Jordan’s I ABSOLUTELY HATE the rings argument, I do feel he is the GOAT despite the preferential treatment and media hype. I DO NOT like that the league changed the rules for him to dominate.
This guy speaks truth. All he is trying to say is that the term GOAT is relative to the speaker and changes from one individual to another. Of course, not any random NBA player can be GOAT but any person who dominated the league can be regarded as the GOAT (Wilt, Magic, Larry, Lebron etc), and that is all personal preference. However, the problem with this is that the media in these past few decades has centred so much around the idea that GOAT = Michael Jordan, that if you even present an argument that Michael is not GOAT you will immediately be treated as if you don't know shit. This is the same with when people say Lebron is GOAT; the moment someone brings up Lebron is GOAT, in the comment section you will get at least one person saying 'lol clearly you didn't watch the NBA in the 90's. Michael is the GOAT and lebron is just a crybaby' or something along those lines. In the end, when you compare one man's greatness to another man's weaknesses, the winner will always be the former. That is LITERALLY what the media does to argue for Michael's sake. Is Michael better than Wilt? Yes, because analysts would say Jordan has more rings than him, while completely disregarding Wilt's dominant stats simply because it's not in favour of Jordan. Okay, we use the same argument; is Michael better than Bill? The answer to this is still yes, because analysts would say Jordan scored more points than Bill, or say Jordan is 6-0 in the finals and did it in incredible fashion whereas Bill lost in the finals, even though his finals record is 11-1. Likewise, for Lebron who is practically destined (if he just keeps up his play, which I have no doubt of) to exceed Michael in points, rebounds and assists, analysts will still say Michael>Lebron because of the rings. Heck, I even heard (I think Stephen A. Smith) say even if Lebron has 6 titles, he would still take Michael's record because Lebron has losses in his finals record. Clearly these analysts, in order to tilt the argument in favour of Jordan's favour, disregard Michael's playoff losses in the years where he didn't make the finals and only focus on his 'perfect' finals record. Obviously, with the uprise in social media, the words that come out of the analysts affect the general public. When something is rinsed and repeated, the public will be accustomed to it and think it's the only truth. Bearing in mind that the game of basketball started to explode at Jordan's era, it is to no surprise that the most popular sports icon at the time, Michael Jordan, along with all the branding and advertisements around him and the constant exposure in media from constant talk in analysts, would only get more popular and be regarded as GOAT. That is what this video is trying to point out: it is not saying Jordan is not worthy of the title of GOAT, it is saying Jordan was made and polished as the GOAT; the video is saying that the term GOAT should be a person's opinion, yet somehow the world makes it seem as if Jordan being the GOAT is an UNDISPUTED FACT.
Bron came out of high school (Akron st.vincent St.marys),so of course he got a 3yr head start on Jordan on pts, asst, rebounds, etc,if Jordan had not retired those 2yrs the bulls win 8 in a row,the rockets were the benefactors of that, even when he was gone the bulls took the Knicks to 7 games without JORDAN,only to lose in the finals, then he comes back nd rips off 3 more titles, where were Houston or the Knicks?that alone was a statement from the GOAT,immmmmm bacccckkkk.jordan would dominate in wilt nd Russell days,(no lane violation back then),or shot clock,,all they did was camp out underneath the basket nd toss it to the tree nd flick in for an easy basket.put Jordan in that era nd they would look at him like he was a freak.put wilt nd Russell in Jordans era nd it's a whole different story.they may be good, but they won't be legends.nuff said.
Lebron is the most complete player we've ever seen. When he left Cleveland, the team had 42 lesser wins. He comes back to a 33-win mediocre Cavs team, gives em 20 more wins, takes them to the finals. Then wins 4 more the next yr and wins the whole thing. On his own.
Lebron also playing in a league with players like curry who have the ability to skip biased ref calls and just shoot it from half court. It definitely seems like the nba .org wanted Jordan to win championships once his fame when viral.
Well Vern Mikkelson has the most foul outs in NBA history with 127. I don't know if these are the next four in order but I know: Shawn Kemp(115) Darryl Dawkins(100) Satch Sanders(94) Hakeem Olajuwon(80) Foul outs are officially called "disqualifications" so you can probably search and find the list that way.
Sonny was the reason why Nike signed Jordan & gave him the biggest shoe deal at the time. Nike didn't want to spend that much on Jordan or anybody else.
+IblewuponyourfaceIII Yeah, Nike was originally going to sign Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon along with Jordan and split the money between them. But Sonny came up with the idea to just sign one player and go all out to promote him with everything they had. It was a very innovative idea at the time. But as Sonny himself has said, the Jordan phenomenon can't be replicated again because it's success was largely because nothing like it had been done before. "Michael was the first. When we did all the marketing, it was brand new. We owned the airwaves. Spike Lee. All those great commercials. Peter Moore with the Jumpman logo. That was new to America. It’s very hard to captivate the world anymore."--Sonny Vacarro
Honestly, the unreal endorsements and cult following of Jordan is kinda scary. I’ve talked to Jordan people and they honestly think Jordan would easily dominate the league today, or they think lebron wouldn’t be a star in the 90’s. It’s ridiculous. All for Jordan too! Their mind is so ingrained with Jordan that they cannot look at any other player being near Jordan’s level! I’ve never seen anything like this. People today are freely debating whether lebron is better than kawhi or giannis, but if anyone says a player is better than jordan, they’re looked at like lunatics.
The funny part is, because it's almost completely marketing and propaganda based at this point, the Jordan worship is actually worse now than when he played. When Jordan was playing, there were a number of players that were debated as being better. Because when he actually played you could see the flaws, mistakes and imperfections. You saw the human Jordan. The one who ballhogged and missed most of the shots he took, the one who constantly got burned on defense gambling for steals stats, etc. Jordan was amazing, but he was just a man who could be challenged(so much as the referees would allow you to challenge him). Now, Jordan has become a religious, mythical character.
I understand your point in this video, however I think people set Jordan as the greatest because he was the greatest combo of points, stats, rings, etc. in NBA history. Also, I think his career was all the more great because it was in an era with heavy competition in the 90s, rather than in the 50s and 60s, where Russell and Wilt simply dominated everyone.
+Prosper Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has the same number of rings as Jordan, equivalent/better stats in comparative seasons and much greater career stat totals. Although, since Jordan was being advertized as the greatest since the 1980s, it couldn't be because he has the best stat/ring combo since he didn't have a ring until 1991.
+TheRiggedBA MJ is overrated, but so is Kareem, because his best years were in the 70s, the most washed up era look at top 10 players of 70s nba seasons and you will see how they really lacked talent, he never been the clear alpha player in his championship years either, him and oscar were equally good, and Magic quickly took over the team as alpha. When Kareem was playing with the lakers without Magic, his teams went nowhere. Also lakers 80s usually had an easy run to the finals due to weaker western conference. Basically MJ may be marketed that badly but Kareem ain't like clear top 3 player ever. There are lots of arguments.
I think Lebron realised what marketing meant for Jordan's legacy,so he pushed his billion $ deal with Nike trying to make the same impact on America that he is the new GOAT.It's just that he went to Miami,so that was the perfect timing for companies that are sponsored by Jordan to make many people hate Lebron for his decision . It turns out that no matter what you do,until Jordan brands sales dont go down there will be no GOAT talk about anyone else.
Living in Chicago in the 90s, I was happy with the Bulls' success of course. BUT, I always thought there was something abnormal and downright creepy about how the media talked about Jordan. Heck, they were crowning him as the GOAT long before the completion of the first three-peat. What he had done on the court, especially up to that point, wasn't necessarily more successful or legendary than what Russ, Wilt, Jerry West, Dr. J, and Larry did. This creepy worship continues today and honestly it's ridiculous, cartoonish even.
Why would guys like Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Bird, Magic, Isiah, Hakeem, Shaq all call Jordan the GOAT? Literally more than half of the top 10 GOAT's have called him the greatest..... 6th leading Guard rebounder all time, 2nd in steals, 1st in scoring, defensive player of the year.... 10 scoring titles 6 championships, 6 FMVP's.... all because of ref treatment eh? Here are MJ's playoff averages upon retirement in 1993 (age 30), over the course of 111 playoff games: 34.8 pts/6.7 reb/6.7 ast/2.4 stl/1.1 blk/51.3% FG/29.7 PER I mean, that's just insane. +bledredwine ["Why would guys like Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Bird, Magic, Isiah, Hakeem, Shaq all call Jordan the GOAT? Literally more than half of the top 10 GOAT's have called him the greatest..... "] Larry Bird said Wilt Chamberlain was better than Jordan. He's also said Jordan wasn't better than Magic. Shaq says Julius Erving was the GOAT and picked Magic over Jordan to start his team. Magic just says whatever he thinks people want to hear, who knows who he actually thinks is the GOAT. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robertson, Julius Erving, Wilt Chamberlain, etc. They not only don't consider Jordan the GOAT, they seem offended by the suggestion. [" 6th leading Guard rebounder all time, 2nd in steals, 1st in scoring, defensive player of the year.... 10 scoring titles 6 championships, 6 FMVP's.... all because of ref treatment eh? Care to explain that XD"] ALL because of ref treatment? No. Due in large part to ref treatment? Yes. Jordan was a great player on his own, but he was made into something much better than he actually was thanks to all the game fixing and this really shouldn't require that much explanation. If you're a great scorer and the referees don't allow anyone to defend you, you'll score a shitload of points. Especially if you're perhaps the biggest ballhog in NBA history and take more shots than anyone else. And if they always rig the games for your team to succeed, you'll win a lot of championships. Not hard to explain.
What the hell are you talking about? Jordan averaged 6.8 FT per game for his career, proof here - www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordami01.html So your first lie is debunked with proof. Lebron averaged 6.2 FT per game and was basically scoring 7 less PPG. Kobe 6.2 FT has jack shit to do with it. He scored 31 PPG career, and without his free throws, 23, so he essentially scored as much as Lebron last season without any freethrows.. for his career! Prime is another story. As for Larry Bird? Guess what? He called MJ the greatest ever.... his ROOKIE SEASON. Proof - uproxx.com/dimemag/larry-bird-called-rookie-michael-jordan-the-best-ever/ lie number 2 debunked (I'd like to say I've heard him say "Magic, after Jordan, the greatest ever". I know what you're talking about. So basically, you make all of these claims like "REFS RIGGED THE GAME! but you literally can't give me a shred of evidence? Go ahead and link everyone here on youtube to a game where he doesn't dominate out of will but simply because of so called ref treatment". Otherwise? It's a post full of nothing. Here are some valuable people who disagree with you and witnessed MJ firthand - "Jordan is the God of basketball, and I think he will always be" .-Dirk Nowitzki ;) next post? Provide me a shred of evidence for your ridiculous claims, and try not to make up numbers... please, otherwise your words mean nothing.
+bledredwine Your rambling is hard to follow. I can only assume you're responding to some other comment with the free throws thing. As for Larry Bird, it says on the very same page you linked to that Bird later said Magic was "the best I’ve ever seen”. ["So basically, you make all of these claims like "REFS RIGGED THE GAME! but you literally can't give me a shred of evidence?"] You mean aside from the fact that literally the first thing the video shows is an NBA referee directly saying that referees were instructed to rig games in Jordan's favor by making up fouls whenever anyone's around him? Followed by several examples of referees making up calls for him just as the referee described? And that later it shows numerous other fake calls for Jordan, including a total phantom foul where Jordan's defender is clearly nowhere near him? Then after that showing another player snapping on a referee specifically for cheating for Jordan? You mean no shred of evidence aside from that? ["Otherwise? It's a post full of nothing."] Yours was a response full of nothing. If you can't pay attention to what's said and shown to you, it's a waste of time.
TheRiggedBA another response from you with ZERO proof wihle each of my previous posts had proof showing you are wrong. I'm done with you, troll. I feel good knowing that everyone who actually reads this will see how my posts have backed up stats literally showing that you're wrong/lying.... ironically, you hurt Lebron's chances with your posts and propped up Jordan :) thanks.
this is why lebron also did marketing very early on too. sadly it did not have the kind of impact. you know why? coz he doesn't have the finess. you wait till all of us generation X die then maybe the world will then start saying that Lebron is the goat. the fact that you stated here that there was no critereon back then is proof that MJ with all his finess, grace, agility, dexterity, stregnth and leadership created the criterion itself. come on. just look at how MJ moved. that's it already. stats will never give it justice in the future.
Most of those awards are voted subjectively by media and other powers that be...if Lebron wasn't robbed by Gasol of the dpoy he woulda won a gold medal, league mvp, dpoy, and finals mvp all in the same year. Big whoop.. ..Lebron is clearly the best player, yall just hangin on to old rusty ass medals like scoring titles as if jordan wasnt pushing and trying to win every scoring title, he shot the ball over 22+ times the majority of his career. Lebron shot the ball 22x only twice...both years averaging in the 30's and won a scoring title lol...kobe won the other time with 35 ppg taking a whopping 27 shots a game Lebron has won his scoring title and now an assist title without even trying, just happening organically through the teams offense
What a waste of time. Jordan himself has said that he doesn't want to be considered the greatest of all time and that he doesn't consider himself the greatest. If you never seen him played, you'll just never understand
You're referring to one interview where Jordan was just giving a political answer. Jordan has called himself the greatest and is notorious for getting mad at anyone who says anything less than worshipful about him. He not only likes being called the greatest, he basically demands it. If you don't, Jordan is known to hold grudges and neither speak or do business with you.
@@TheRiggedBA Off the top of my head, I can recall two instances where Jordan refuted the claim of him being the "GOAT". One in a post game conference and another time when interviewed by Ahmad Rashad. He has been on record saying that every generation has had it's own player(s) that are considered the "GOAT". He has even spoken about the topic in his book, For the Love of the Game. Lastly, what exactly are you trying to accomplish with this biased video? What's yo gain out of this? Whether Jordan is considered the greatest of all time or not, how does this OPINION (and I emphasize the word opinion) effect your everyday life? If you consider someone else the "GOAT", that's your opinion and you're entitled to it... ...but to try to change someone else's because you don't agree with it, well, that's redundant ignorance.
@@artm6944 Yes, Jordan has fake-rejected the accolades on some occasions. He's also taken them and given them to himself on others as well. Most great players believe they're the best, you're just not supposed to say it. But every now and then they don't give a damn and just say it anyway, as Jordan has done. As for the purpose of the video, it's ironic that you speak of trying to change someone's opinion. The video does doesn't do that. It's the Jordan marketing machine that demands everyone think Jordan is the best. The purpose of the video is to show how Jordan's perceived GOAT status was artificially imposed by the media and that differing opinions should be allowed.
TBH I think Jordan is the GOAT of the NBA, however, if someone said that Wilt or Kareem is the GOAT I would get upset because I think those are the other 2 players other than MJ u could say. and I will say fuck the ring argument because ppl should judge players on individual play not on team accomplishments.
Jordan's desire, dedication, work ethic, leadership, passion for the game he loves, competitiveness, drive to work harder than the next guy to be the best he can to always get better rhan he was last year, his will to push his teammates n help make them better for the "team" not ones self, fight for the win instead of personal accomplishments(james),the way he never gave up in a game(james)his team(james),rather to be a champion than just settle for single accomplishments(james).mj wasnt just an amazing player he was the sport he loved.he accepted every challenge that came in hus way n if he had a bad night or if someone got the best of him, which did happen at times.very few but did happen.he wanted n did kill it n them on the next go around.this is just some of the things that made Jordan the greatest ti play.fuck the rings and personal accomplishment.the man fought just a little bit harder to be the player he was.all this other shit is just that shit.make videos, comments and other ways of bullshit to claim why he isnt.it all becomes a joke.tell the truth why you dont think hes is the greatest ever and the true meaning to why that is,is only because you dont like him or like another player better.but sorry that not going to work.have to admit this video was one of the best to make me laugh even tho it is full of shit n just overly desperate.wilkins wouldn't have been called the goat and as for all the advertisements.when your good dood things happen stop tbe fuckin hate makw you all look bad
Its fueled by jealousy and the root of all jealousy is insecurity therefore some accountability would be needed otherwise his cause is just as corrupt of the corruption he's against. Ask the guy how old he is next time that will tell it, I don't think he's beyond 29 to have much of a basis for comparison or tastes
I will say though that Jordan would've never won 6 championships without a solid team. Pippen, Kukoc, Grant, and others have definitely aided in what Jordan has become today
Everybody has to have a team the difference is all those people you just named word ((((rookies))) not all stars from other teams rookies big difference,,,,, and they became All-Stars under mike watch,,,, which proves he makes players better,,,, unlike LeBron James going to take the best player off of other teams is totally different and the numbers go down you don't know what you're talking about
Well yea in 1990 it wasnt.but before that like wen he first came in i was saying.jirdan was or had a 48 inch vert.yea it's gunna go down as he starts to age.
Good video. I'm not even really a basketball fan but it's annoying how the talking heads need to constantly bring up mj 15 years after his last game. No other sport does this. In hockey they don't constantly bring up Gretzky, in baseball they don't drone on about Ruth or Aaron or Mays. Also the point about the corporations makes me think of Peyton Manning and how all the same sports media took his side and swept his scandals under the rug. Sexual assault, hgh, sending goons to threaten an accuser before the documentary even airs, and hiring George W Bush's former white house press Secretary to be his PR guy (the same guy that was Tiger's pr guy) and none of it gets mentioned at all by these sports people. Too many sponsors need him to look like a good guy.
www.washingtonpost.com/sports/inside-peyton-mannings-secret-investigation-into-al-jazeera-documentary/2016/02/04/d0da2f04-cb05-11e5-a7b2-5a2f824b02c9_story.html?.d4cfda2c27dd Charlie Sly(The drug dealer that said he would ship hgh to Manning)'s sister even called the police. This story of course didn't get much air time from ESPN, when it did on PTI both Wilbon and Cornheiser just said calmly "I don't have a problem with him trying to get information about the guy." Just compare how this story was handled vs. a football loosing air.
Your Magic quote from '93 no longer holds up. Magic has been saying for years and years that Jordan is the best of all time. Mike still went on to win 3 more championships, 3 finals mvp's, 3 scoring titles and 2(?) reg season mvp's after that. G.O.A.T
+Trevis Branch That was the point. That people in the media are supposed to call Jordan the GOAT as a matter of policy(written or unwritten) whether they actually believe it or not. John Salley apparently "changed his mind" and said Jordan was the GOAT too...when he was working for NBC. When he stopped working there he repeatedly said Jordan wasn't the GOAT. Shaq also says Jordan isn't the GOAT but calls him that on TV. That's the desired narrative.
@@AirJordans2323 Shaq has said Jordan wasn't the GOAT numerous times. "To me, ‘Dr. J’ was the greatest player ever. But I ask other people, they say Jordan, some say Kobe, some people say LeBron." philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2014/08/22/shaquille-oneal-calls-dr-j-the-greatest-player-ever/
There is a reason Jordan is considered the goat. The vast majority of people who don’t think so didn’t see him play in his prime.. If you did you know.
Ironically, I'd say those who believe Jordan is the GOAT most religiously are the ones who did NOT see him play. Because they have no context or knowledge to filter the hype through. They don't know a lie about Jordan when they hear one. They don't know any of Jordan's faults or failures. They just know that when they go to buy the most popular basketball shoe on the market, Air Jordans, they see the words "GREATEST PLAYER EVER" written on them. And when they turn on the most popular sports network, ESPN, they see the hosts randomly bring Jordan up and call him the GOAT every single day, regardless of what the conversation topic is. They only see Jordan in crafted highlights where Jordan never misses a shot and gets a steal or block on every defensive possession. So in their minds, they think Jordan descended from Heaven, played 6 years years in the NBA, single-handedly won 6 championships, then retired out of boredom because the game was too easy for him and ascended back up into the clouds. Sure, old school Jordan fans are bad. But there may be no one worse than a Jordan fan who's never seen Jordan play.
Kareem has six championship rings the same as Jordan. Kareem outscored Jordan and is the highest scorer in NBA history. Kareem out rebounded Jordan, and blocked more shots then Jordan. Kareem played 20 seasons in the post and retired at age 42. Here is something I found in the NBA (online) encyclopedia. *"When Kareem Abdul-Jabbar left the game in 1989 at age 42, no NBA player had ever scored more points, blocked more shots, won more Most Valuable Player Awards, played in more All-Star Games or logged more seasons. His list of personal and team accomplishments is perhaps the most awesome in league history: Rookie of the Year, member of six NBA championship teams, six-time NBA MVP, two-time NBA Finals MVP, 19-time All-Star, two-time scoring champion, and a member of the NBA 35th and 50th Anniversary All-Time Teams. He also owned eight playoff records and seven All-Star records. No player achieved as much individual and team success as did Abdul-Jabbar."* Oh yes and BTW... The nickname "Hang-time" was given to Elgin Baylor by Laker announcer Chick Hearn. Elgin had hang-time for real. There are a lot of players that were better then freaking Michael Jordan and they have the stats to prove it. Magic Johnson saying that Michael Jordan is greatest athlete in all of of sports is just laughable. He obviously said it because he gets payed to say that and would probably lose his job if didn't say it like he was told to. Jordan was suspended for two seasons by the NBA for gambling. He went to Major League Baseball (they say) to keep in shape. He was certainly not a two pro sport phenomenon like Neon Deion Sanders. Jordan couldn't hit a MLB curveball to save his life. In MLB Michael Jordan was a bench warmer because he sucked at the game. It took Jordan's team seven season to get the first ring. If he was so great he would have got a ring sooner. Magic got his first ring in his rookie season while Kareem was home with an ankle injury. That was pure greatness. Magic and Jamal Wilkes willed that Laker team to win that championship after their best player Kareem went down. Magic Johnson was light years better then Michael Jordan because he could do so much more then Jordan ever could do. Magic was a 6'9" point guard that could run like a Gazelle and handle the ball like no other. He could pass the ball better then anyone, saw the floor better then anyone. He could post up. Shoot three's, He had his own hook shot (the Junior sky hook) that won game four of the 1987 NBA championship at the buzzer. The triple double was a stat that his career started... "Magic coined the phrase triple double himself". Magic could play inside out, he could play any position. Jordan was just a scorer... That was it in a nutshell for Jordan. Scoring was secondary to Magic his teams needed him to get the rest of his team involved in the game. He averaged around 24 points a game. But when they needed him to he could get 50. He broke the assists record and would still have that record if his career wasn't cut short. If Jordan didn't get so much help from the refs all the time he would probably have never gotten a ring. Jordan is just a corporate mirage. Another false manufactured idol. Many players who played in the NBA were better then and more valuable to their teams then Jordan ever was. Wilt Chamberlin, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Pete Maravich, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, Julius Erving, Koby Bryant, that's just the short list. Michael Jordan the greatest player of all time in the NBA?.. PA-Leeeeeeze!!! Any tell-lie-vision personality who insists that Jordan is the best player ever to play in the NBA is paid a lot of cash under the table to do so... And that is the truth. :-I
M.Jordan earned his status in the league. Basketball skill wise he didn't have one weakness. He was skillfully better than everybody and then throw the 48 inch vert and 4.3 40 speed along with a high IQ makes him the best. MJ was NOT a studio creation
While I do think Jordan was probably the 2nd most individually skilled player I've seen, he did have weaknesses. An at times atrociously bad outside shot, for one. But no one "earns" games being rigged for them to ensure their success and the media propagandizing them as the GOAT while censoring and slandering any other opinion. You don't "earn" that. And did you watch the video? Jordan didn't have a 48 inch vertical leap. That's pure mythology.
+MD Twomp It's not much like LeBron. The NBA fixes games against LeBron probably as much as for him. LeBron has never had sole favoritism from the league like Jordan did. Jordan had the benefit of being the first this was done for, so he had a monopoly when it came to marketing and favor. LeBron has always had to share it with other players like Kobe, Curry, etc. It's highly unlikely that any player will ever have done for them what was done for Jordan again. That environment no longer exists.
@@x-man9473 I assume you didn't watch the video then. Jordan's marketing campaign was designed by Nike before they even knew who Jordan was. The marketing strategy was designed first, then the face of it was chosen later. Jordan was pre-planned to be the most marketed athlete before he ever even played his first NBA game. Someone is always the best player in the league, but no player has ever been marketed like Jordan.
@@TheRiggedBA Absolutely. That's the point. No player has ever been marketed like Jordan because there is no other Jordan. Nike didn't coincidentally stumble upon a talented player like MJ and think to themselves "Hmm. We're going to make him the best player in the league". They knew talent when they saw it, and they knew he would become someone truly special. And they were right. Because he's the greatest basketball player of all time. Which goes back to the point I made in the first place.
@@x-man9473 Nike themselves have said that they didn't even think Jordan was necessarily the best player(they seem to have felt it was Olajuwon), but that they chose him because they felt he was the most marketable. Whoever Nike chose was going to be the most marketed athlete because that was the pre-planned strategy. So it doesn't make sense for you to say it was because Jordan was the greatest. Again, they already had the plan before they even knew who Jordan was. Jordan being a talented showman certainly helped, but that came after the fact already.
I do not know how old is this TheRiggedBA guy is, but he definitely had not seen MJ playing live. He has not seen that the guy literally carried Bulls team on his shoulders for most of his career. And it was at times when the game was rough, not today's "ballet". Even Pip , even though he was a great defender, was most of the time very shaky on offense. To know that you have to watch Bulls FULL games, nit just some clips on youtube. You, young guys, have no idea, what happened on the court when MJ was going to the bench to have some rest. Bulls team was falling apart because they did not know what to do with the ball on offense. And Pip was on the floor at those moments. There was NO player before or after MJ who could do that night in night out and won championships as MJ did. Sure, there were people jumping higher, shooting better. But NOONE had a combination of skills and HEART, like MJ So whatever agenda you have, my friend TheRiggedBA, you can BS only youngsters, who actually have not seen MJ played.
Jordan "literally carried Bulls team on his shoulders for most of his career"? 😄 I don't think you quite understand what the word "literally" means, but even suggesting that Jordan figuratively carried the Bulls on his shoulders would be a joke. Jordan had one of the best players in the league on his team in Scottie Pippen and a system implemented by an all-time coaching staff that made them efficient whether Jordan was on the floor or not. The Bulls were still good even when Jordan was removed entirely from the roster. And in the second 3-peat, Jordan had possibly the most limited role of any superstar on a championship team. Scottie Pippen alone outcontributed Jordan in every category except scoring.
I don’t care what you say Michael Jordan is the GOAT of all times. He is greater than Lebron James. That’s final. Even if entertainment is s part of it.
@@TheRiggedBA I think the biggest argument jordan fans use saying Jordan >>>> LeBron is the myth that handchecking was used constantly when Jordan played.
@@TheRiggedBA The fact that you said that LeBron is better than Jordan, makes you lose all credibility. Got the nerve to talk about "media hype" while capping for another guy who's a complete product of media hype. lol
@@xavierhamz3346 So because Jordan is corporately hyped by the media, I'm somehow not supposed to acknowledge LeBron's skills and abilities? It's funny that you'd say LeBron is completely a product of media hype when the media actively de-hypes LeBron by pushing fake criticisms and narratives against him to intentionally downplay how good he is so that Jordan will be perceived as better. So clearly LeBron's hype isn't the same as Jordan's. But Jordan's marketing and LeBron's abilities are two different issues. LeBron being better than Jordan is just easy basketball analysis. LeBron is a better athlete with a better mind for the game, which allows him to play basketball better than Jordan. That's not a product of media hype. That's a product of genetics and mentality.
this video is so true! especially the espn nonsense. Jordan pretty much made espn what it is and was the star they clung to so questioning mj is off limits.
you should actually make so many videos like these and the rigging and all of sports , you have changed many things on how I look at the NBA , thank you
I have a nitpick here. The Greatest is not a matter of simple preference. There is a muddy, grey area of course near the summit, but simple preference would mean you can call someone GOAT on account of his style of play.
Yeah, Magic will just say whatever he thinks people want to hear. He's a businessman at the end of the day and promoting Jordan was/is good for business. NBC was basically the Michael Jordan network at the time and Magic worked for NBC, so he understood the assignment. Bird is better than Jordan, according to Magic. Unless Magic is on the clock for the media, then Jordan is better than anyone anywhere, according to Magic.
MJ himself if asked if he’s the GOAT says no and that it makes him cringe when NBA stars(LeBron) say they are because no one really knows🤷🏻♀️he didn’t get the change to play against Russel and a lot of other greats,so why do people slag Jordan off he himself doesn’t think he’s the greatest EVER!!✌️✌️✌️
You're referring to one interview out of numerous interviews where he's spoken on the issue. Here's another interview where Jordan gives a decidedly different answer: th-cam.com/video/Hadk0wex89Y/w-d-xo.html
The same marketing was done with Jerry Rice to call him the greatest NFL player ever, not just the best WR (I don't think that he is either, personally).

There are people that I grew up with who still think MJ had a magical power called hangtime. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
Oh, yeah. I've had hangtime believers argue with me about it on this channel. It's quite amazing.
There have been several players since Jordan with similar verticals. He just played against a bunch of bums in the 90’s.

You ever notice that literally every NBA broadcaster or writer labels LeBron "the best player on the planet" - verbatim. This was obviously a league mandate because they all use the exact wording. That way LBJ can be the greatest without impinging on Jordan.

Why not not show their career averages; leave in those years where the restricted area allowed WIlt to stand way closer to the ring
or and no need to adjust for that little thing called Segregation (unless of course you think, as soon as the cvil rights bill was bill, the next day wh1tey was like. Sorry about that sh88 yesterday n1ggas, come on over and join my tam LOL)
or even the fact that there as another league called the ABA
both of which obviously diluted the competition pool
.....so don;t worry about all that, just put up their career averages, regular season MJ vs Wilt, Playoffs MJ v Wilt.....no need to adjust for segregation, ABA, or even the smaller restricted area....
regardless of our difference in opinion, great vid!
+Harri v'Jah
["??? LOL did you adjust for the fact..."]
No.
["Why not not show their career averages"]
1) Because you typically judge players by their prime years, and 2) because they didn't play the same number of seasons so it wouldn't be an apples-to-apples comparison. Though even if you use career, Wilt still blanks out Jordan's scoring since he has the same career average(30.1ppg), so Wilt still blows him away thanks to the other stats.

Ive said this for years and stand by it. Jordan minus the refs, minus the hype, was Vernon maxwell. Period
Maxwell played well against MJ too
Houston would have stomped Chicago in 94 and 95
Exactly...Facts.

So you hate Jordan on a personal level. So much hate that you hate anyone who doesn't hate him. That's deep man.

Stats , mvp, championship, scoring title, defensive player award are some of the criteria but what sets him apart is work ethics, competitiveness, charisma, creativity and artistry, class, watchability and impact to the game, youth and people in general.
+vincesomerhalder
People still talk and make videos about him because of his merchandise brand, which financially motivates the Nike affiliate, ESPN( the largest sports network in the world), to constantly bring Jordan up and keep him in the public discussion even though he has no actual relevance to the conversation today.
+devilarch
At risk of sounding too complicated, he has no relevance to an everyday basketball discussion...because he no longer plays basketball.
+devilarch
["Wilt doesn't have that shoe contract like MJ so why do people talk about him?"]
Um, they don't.
+jxn23
["I was just disputing your main claim that it is "company policy" for Jordan to be the GOAT, surely it makes more sense for the NBA to say that a current player is the best."]
There's more companies involved than just the NBA, but you market who makes the most money. And as the video explains, Jordan, by virtue of circumstance and timing, still makes more than anyone else and will always do so for the foreseeable future since the conditions that caused Jordan to explode no longer exist.
["Surely if Jordan's status as the GOAT was created by the media/Nike as you claim, the media/Nike could just as easily create someone else as the new GOAT."]
They could easily create a new GOAT. For that matter, they have to constantly fight to STOP a new GOAT from being declared. Because, again, Jordan makes the most money. Acknowledging a new GOAT would lessen Jordan brand sales, so they don't want to create a new GOAT. That's the whole point.
["The real reason that Nike was so successful with the Air Jordan line was because of Michael Jordan's game, not because of marketing."]
Dr.J's game was relatively as exciting and marketable to his era as Jordan, so why wasn't Nike(or Converse) nearly as successful with him? Because the conditions for it didn't exist. The ideas hadn't been thought of and the media avenues weren't there. Most people didn't even get to see Dr.J play in his prime in America. When Jordan was in his prime, the whole country was being fed his highlights on ESPN while people were watching his commercials and buying his merchandise around the world.
["No one actually thinks that Michael Jordan saved the world from cartoon aliens or that he can dunk on a 100 foot hoop."]
Adults might not think that, but impressionable young kids, the target audience for Jordan products, can't distinguish fantasy from reality the same way. And while you might not believe Jordan can actually dunk on a 100 foot hoop, the constant superhero marketing creates an air of superhuman ability and people literally believe Jordan has special powers.
["And you show a dozen clips of questionable calls that go in Jordan's favor and say that proves the NBA is rigged in his favor."]
I didn't just show "clips of questionable calls". I showed actual commentary from players screaming at the Jordan bias and even referees themselves directly stating outright that the NBA rigged games for Jordan.
["Rick Barry said in 1988 on various telecasts when he was commentating that he thought Jordan was the best ever, and that was in his fourth year."]
Not that I particularly care about Rick Barry's or any players opinion since they're just opinions like anyone else's, but here's Barry on Jordan's supposed GOAThood: th-cam.com/video/wNQNnXflHnI/w-d-xo.html
["When did Bird say Magic was better than Jordan?"]
Larry, after sweeping Jordan, saying Magic was the best he's ever seen - th-cam.com/video/FoFbi-w-eeY/w-d-xo.html
Bird also said more recently: "Is he(Jordan) better than Magic Johnson was at the peak of his career? No. He's the best for an overall period of time, maybe, but when you put me, Magic, and Michael at the height of our careers, I don't think you'd find that big of a difference."

Shutup troll
Wow, this is maybe the best I've seen on this subject. Very well done..

Jordan = GOAT
*you spelled dwyane wade wrong. he is the best and most complete. 08-09. go watch it.
I wonder if there is a list for "The most foul outs in NBA history"
Well Vern Mikkelson has the most foul outs in NBA history with 127. I don't know if these are the next four in order but I know:
Shawn Kemp(115)
Darryl Dawkins(100)
Satch Sanders(94)
Hakeem Olajuwon(80)
Foul outs are officially called "disqualifications" so you can probably search and find the list that way.
Sonny was the reason why Nike signed Jordan & gave him the biggest shoe deal at the time. Nike didn't want to spend that much on Jordan or anybody else.
+IblewuponyourfaceIII
Yeah, Nike was originally going to sign Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon along with Jordan and split the money between them.

Dude very nice videos you deserve so much more attention..

+Mariano Zuniga yes why
+Prosper
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has the same number of rings as Jordan, equivalent/better stats in comparative seasons and much greater career stat totals. Although, since Jordan was being advertized as the greatest since the 1980s, it couldn't be because he has the best stat/ring combo since he didn't have a ring until 1991.
+Prosper you've never even seen the NBA in the 80's. Dr. J would destroy MJ. Go watch the tape. Dr. J was like kawhi mixed with jordan
There are lots of arguments.
jocriss
I do. He's much better than Jordan and would lock him down with ease
It turns out that no matter what you do,until Jordan brands sales dont go down there will be no GOAT talk about anyone else.
great video man....we missed your great work...
greetings from greece!
This creepy worship continues today and honestly it's ridiculous, cartoonish even.
it was all preplanned...
Care to explain that XD
Some of Jordan's series AVERAGES....
Finals (1993) - 31.2 pts/6.6 reb/11.4 ast/2.8 stl/1.4 blk/56% FG (1991) or 41.0 pts/8.5 reb/6.3 ast/1.8 stl/.7 blk/51% FG (1993)
1992 - 6 Games... 35.8 PPG... 4.8 RPG... 6.5 APG ... 52.6 FG%... 89 FT%...29.2 PER
vs. Cleveland, 1988: 45 pts/5 reb/5 ast/53% FG
vs. NY, 1989: 37 pts/10 reb/9 ast/52% FG
vs. Boston, 1986: 44 pts/6 reb/6 ast/51% FG
vs. Philly, 1990: 43 pts/7 reb/7 ast/52% FG
vs. Milwaukee, 1990: 37 pts/8 reb/7 ast/53% FG
vs. Miami, 1992: 45 pts/10 reb/7 ast/53% FG
vs. Cleveland, 1989: 40 pts/6 reb/8 ast/53% FG
vs. Philly, 1991: 34 pts/8 reb/8 ast/52% FG
Keep in mind that these numbers for Jordan include 4 past-prime postseasons (65+ games). Here are MJ's playoff averages upon retirement in 1993 (age 30), over the course of 111 playoff games:
34.8 pts/6.7 reb/6.7 ast/2.4 stl/1.1 blk/51.3% FG/29.7 PER
I mean, that's just insane. Basically 35/7/7/2+/1+/30 PER

Larry Bird said Wilt Chamberlain was better than Jordan.
Care to explain that XD"]
ALL because of ref treatment?
Jordan averaged 6.8 FT per game for his career, proof here - www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordami01.html
So your first lie is debunked with proof.
Proof - uproxx.com/dimemag/larry-bird-called-rookie-michael-jordan-the-best-ever/
lie number 2 debunked (I'd like to say I've heard him say "Magic, after Jordan, the greatest ever".
Here are some valuable people who disagree with you and witnessed MJ firthand -

Your rambling is hard to follow. I can only assume you're responding to some other comment with the free throws thing. As for Larry Bird, it says on the very same page you linked to that Bird later said Magic was "the best I’ve ever seen”.
["So basically, you make all of these claims like "REFS RIGGED THE GAME! but you literally can't give me a shred of evidence?"]
You mean aside from the fact that literally the first thing the video shows is an NBA referee directly saying that referees were instructed to rig games in Jordan's favor by making up fouls whenever anyone's around him? Followed by several examples of referees making up calls for him just as the referee described? And that later it shows numerous other fake calls for Jordan, including a total phantom foul where Jordan's defender is clearly nowhere near him? Then after that showing another player snapping on a referee specifically for cheating for Jordan? You mean no shred of evidence aside from that?

this is why lebron also did marketing very early on too. sadly it did not have the kind of impact. you know why? coz he doesn't have the finess. you wait till all of us generation X die then maybe the world will then start saying that Lebron is the goat. the fact that you stated here that there was no critereon back then is proof that MJ with all his finess, grace, agility, dexterity, stregnth and leadership created the criterion itself. come on. just look at how MJ moved. that's it already. stats will never give it justice in the future.
If that’s what u think name another player that took league MVP All-Star MVP finals MVP all while leading the league in scoring. I rest my case......

Lebron shot the ball 22x only twice...both years averaging in the 30's and won a scoring title lol...kobe won the other time with 35 ppg taking a whopping 27 shots a game
Lebron has won his scoring title and now an assist title without even trying, just happening organically through the teams offense

@@artm6944
Yes, Jordan has fake-rejected the accolades on some occasions.

Sooo after watching 17:28 of this video I finally realize MJ IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!
And you would be very very wrong!!!!
I will say though that Jordan would've never won 6 championships without a solid team. Pippen, Kukoc, Grant, and others have definitely aided in what Jordan has become today
Everybody has to have a team the difference is all those people you just named word ((((rookies))) not all stars from other teams rookies big difference,,,,, and they became All-Stars under mike watch,,,, which proves he makes players better,,,, unlike LeBron James going to take the best player off of other teams is totally different and the numbers go down you don't know what you're talking about
Big ass differents
this video was amazing good job bro
Manning sent goons? Wow. Hadn't heard of that.

Charlie Sly(The drug dealer that said he would ship hgh to Manning)'s sister even called the police. This story of course didn't get much air time from ESPN, when it did on PTI both Wilbon and Cornheiser just said calmly "I don't have a problem with him trying to get information about the guy." Just compare how this story was handled vs. a football loosing air.
Been waiting for this for a while man. About to watch right now.
Jordan is GOAT.
Your Magic quote from '93 no longer holds up. Magic has been saying for years and years that Jordan is the best of all time. Mike still went on to win 3 more championships, 3 finals mvp's, 3 scoring titles and 2(?) reg season mvp's after that. G.O.A.T
+Trevis Branch
That was the point.
@@TheRiggedBA
When did Shaq say Jordan wasn’t the GOAT? Last time I checked, he said Jordan was the undisputed greatest and it wasn’t close.
@@AirJordans2323 Shaq has said Jordan wasn't the GOAT numerous times.
"To me, ‘Dr. J’ was the greatest player ever. But I ask other people, they say Jordan, some say Kobe, some people say LeBron."
philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2014/08/22/shaquille-oneal-calls-dr-j-the-greatest-player-ever/
Its like finding out santa isnt real however you still get gifts so its not all make believe
No player achieved as much individual and team success as did Abdul-Jabbar."*
Oh yes and BTW...
TheRiggedBA Kinda like how they fix it for LeBron. He had been the next cash cow golden boy of the league. Make a video on that.
so who's the best skilled player?
+rayleigh8
The person who replicated all of Jordan's skills and then evolved and upgraded them: Kobe Bryant.
+MD Twomp
It's not much like LeBron.
Air Jordan the best of the best.
Certainly the best marketed.
@@TheRiggedBA Of course. When you're the best player in the league you tend to get marketed. That's how business works
@@x-man9473
I assume you didn't watch the video then.
@@x-man9473
Nike themselves have said that they didn't even think Jordan was necessarily the best player(they seem to have felt it was Olajuwon), but that they chose him because they felt he was the most marketable.
But NOONE had a combination of skills and HEART, like MJ
So whatever agenda you have, my friend TheRiggedBA, you can BS only youngsters, who actually have not seen MJ played.
Wow this opened my eyes thank u so much

yo this is crazy... those are the same SOFT calls we complain about in the nba today.

I don’t care what you say Michael Jordan is the GOAT of all times. He is greater than Lebron James. That’s final. Even if entertainment is s part of it.
LeBron is much better than Jordan, but OK. You're entitled to your opinion.
@@TheRiggedBA I think the biggest argument jordan fans use saying Jordan >>>> LeBron is the myth that handchecking was used constantly when Jordan played.
+Jason Contreas
The hand checking myth has grown into a big one too. A much bigger one than it ever should have really.
That's a product of genetics and mentality.
what brand of shoes should we buy? if not nike?

you should actually make so many videos like these and the rigging and all of sports , you have changed many things on how I look at the NBA , thank you
I have a nitpick here. The Greatest is not a matter of simple preference. There is a muddy, grey area of course near the summit, but simple preference would mean you can call someone GOAT on account of his style of play.
JORDAN IS THE MAN... THE GOAT... STANDARD MEASURE OF EXCELLENCE... HANDS DOWN..
Saying it in all caps still doesn't make it true.
