He turned heavily contested double and triple teamed shots into into his signature style. Much Like Kareems Skyhook and Jordan’s Fade-away. Kobe’s contested shots are legendary.
It was also the reason why his FG% was a bit lower than what it could have been. They were good for highlights and "Mamba Mentality" but no one talks about the misses and how they adversely affect the team.

The video forgot one thing. Unlike most other iso players, Kobe didn't need to dribble a lot. 2-3 dribbles before the shot. No wasted movement. All about efficient footwork and body control. It was so beautiful to watch.
Kobe did a lot of pump fakes and and jab steps because he obviously lost his athleticism pretty quick and he never put on the muscle that MJ or LeBron did.
I think part of that had to do with Kobe's approach to shots. Kobe had favorite spots on the floor that he would drill over and over. He could basically do the right elbow jumper with his eyes closed, so having a hand in his face didn't matter. Space didn't matter. It's not that we never see modern players hit shots like the one at 5:13, but that was a common shot for Kobe. That said, I also wouldn't say that modern players "waste" dribbles. Offenses are far more complicated than they used to be. They're designed to push defenses to the breaking point-setting up an open 3 or easy 2; they're not _supposed_ to be dependent on a last minute adjustment. Even a lot of dribbles that seem "wasted" because the ball-handler is doing nothing are actually serving a purpose, for example stalling while an off-ball screen happens. Regardless, modern players are working with a larger area of the court-you literally can't imagine someone making 2 threes per game and winning a scoring title like Kobe did-and the offensive systems are designed to create space and maximize efficiency.

What I don't get is the lack of blocked 3 point attempts, it's like guys aren't even attempting to play D. If I know you're just going to shoot 3's, then I'm going to guard the 3pt line and force you to pass or put the ball on the floor. Look at how aggressive guys drive yo the basket, how high they jump. Those same players "playing defense" barely jump 3 inches when "gaurding" the perimeter.
36 game winners, the most of all time. Many of them being midrange shots! Kobe shoots 48% from 2 point range for his career. If you subtract those 2014-2016 years after he had the achilles injury it would be higher for sure.

This shows how Kobe was the most complete/skillful player, he gave even the most elite defenders nightmares because he was relentless and unpredictable. Whether it was going left or right, fade away with his back to the basket, stepback, crossover, pull-up from three... that's not even his full offensive arsenal that he possessed, but (long story short) Kobe was one of the most unguardable and entertaining players this game has ever seen.
His footwork is sooooo polished and smooth, to get to that level takes a whole lifetime of commitment and work ethic, his game is unbelievably clean and mesmerizing to witness, we will never see anything like this again Kobe we will never forget you, Rest In Peace but never forgotten! It’s been almost 2 years but as a Lakers fan I still keep you in my thoughts every day, you have gave me a lifetime of good memories, The entire world misses you Kobe! 6:58 look at the head movement in sync with his hesitations and his hands all creating the illusion that he’s about to pull up. Incredible detailed moves that when you see up close and personal as the defender is scary to have to defend against and much harder to react to than just watching as a spectator.
I use to watch all of the “Nike Signature Moves” videos and emulate the players game into my own. Kobe’s moves were the only moves you couldn’t really learn and practice without insane athletic ability. All footwork, balance, patience, IQ and skill.
I saw from another video that Kobe's fingers had injuries through a number of his high scoring seasons. If that was true, it just makes him even more badass pulling those moves in that condition.
I think he had a broken index finger on his right hand during the finals series with Orlando and taped two fingers together and still shot off it. Definitely the most skilled basketball player I’ve ever seen but also the toughest athlete ever playing through the injuries he had. Seriously superhuman for sure.

2008 USA Team learned from Kobe’s work ethic. There was a story about how the Olympic team after practice decided they were gonna go out and hit up some nightclubs and kick it but Kobe declined and decided to stay at the facility. After a whole night out they came back and he was still in the gym practicing. Legendary work ethic. Cut from a different cloth.

He didn't want to waste all his energy with all the fancy dribbling they do nowadays. Kobe actually used his energy to play on defense too.

I use to watch all of the “Nike Signature Moves” videos and emulate the players game into my own. Kobe’s moves were the only moves you couldn’t really learn and practice without insane athletic ability. All footwork, balance, patience, IQ and skill.
