    I hate how none of Jordans bad games are ever discussed or brought up. It’s like he only played 6 seasons. He is lucky that he didn’t play in today’s world, where social media and the media itself would have annihilated him.

      The Jordan fans hide everything

    • @MGPCycling
      @MGPCycling ปีที่แล้ว +26

      you must not have been around when Jordan was playing. He was CONSTANTLY getting crucified by the media for being a ballhog, not being in the same league as Magic or Bird in terms of winning, being a one man band who didn't make his teammates better, a scoring champion couldn't win a title, etc etc etc.
      what erased all of those narratives is that he won, and won dominantly. No one forgot that he had bad games. But he never had bad games on the biggest stage that cost his team a title.
      You're being quite disingenuous or are simply ignorant of history.

    • @swatsa4460
      @swatsa4460 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Isn't the 97' ECF Bulls vs Heat a bad game on a big stage. MJ shot below 30% on 9/35 FG shooting. To be fair though he bounced back the game after and before this game and it didn't cost them technically a title however it prevented a sweep from the bulls.

      @paul hammer If you think he would of been annihilated in today’s game you clearly never saw him the way a die hard bulls fan (that never missed a game saw him).
      You don’t hear about his bad games because he RARELY (I don’t use that word lightly) had them.
      Until you can compare a players mentality to his then you can’t convince me that he wasn’t the GOAT. He literally demoralized players. And with him being physically relentless, that alone is bold enough to say he would of DOMINATED today’s league.

Younger fans talk about the big three, winning now, free agency etc... The facts are this, no one wins a championship by themselves in a TEAM SPORT!!! As great of an individual talent that a player may be, whether it be Michael, Lebron, Kobe, Wilt or whomever, that person needs their teammates to do their job in order to win!! I am happy that this video and breakdown is available so that fans can see that even the great Michael Jordan needed his teammates to step up in order to win! Solo watch the video. I was recently in a discussion with a 23 year old who feels lebron is the greatest ever. I simply asked him why he believes that and gave me valid points about Lebron while also leaving out his failures on the brightest stage. He then began to say Jordan didn’t play nearly the competition and today’s game is harder to play in because players are more skilled. To make a long story short I feel like so many people want Lebron to be the best so bad that they are willing to overlook Lebrons FEW times he didn’t get it done compared to Jordans pretty much Flawless career.

    In my opinion, it was just a case of a team that wasn't constructed well for MJ to play PG. He could really pass the ball, but you need a different type of offense if you are going to have your best scorer also be your main ball handler and facilitator. Just take a look at Luka, LeBron or Giannis. There's just no way to triple team them because those offenses are built to punish you for doing so.

    • @AnHebrewChild
      @AnHebrewChild 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LowEnd DrillCityVet yessir. I watched (avidly) and witnessed: what you describe is exactly what went down. The fact that folks even try to argue that Jordan disappeared this game is entirely fallacious history based upon two principle shortcomings:
      *1) failure to understand the historical context (as you mentioned above):* His teammates were ATROCIOUS at screening & posting vs physical teams, atrocious at off-ball rotation, and wildly inconsistent / others atrocious at making open shots. Even when teammates' shots _were_ connecting, it was still 2+ pistons directly bodying MJ, but..... when his teammates went cold: the on ball double teams often turned into 3-4 and off-ball direct-guards went to 2 (utilizing switching between offA and off B players).
      *2) failure to understand advanced basketball strategy.* (ie _actually_ understanding - which very few even hardcore fans do) The 89 and the 90 pistons-bulls series were legitimately Michael Jordan vs an entire team of Vicious defenders. (EVEN those not directly guarding MJ - still adjusted ALL their defensive switches, all off- ball positioning and all post-side defensive slots in reference to one thing: #23's current location on the court. The strategy in how they accomplished this, was contingent on a secondary thing: the ball's current location in reference to #23.
      Those folks who don't _know_ basketball X's and O's (the vast majority of even hard core fans do not); these people flat out _DO NOT_ understand just how all-consuming this defense was designed to be against one man. And Chuck Daly and staff were WIZARDS of defensive strategy.
      Sorry for wordy post / rant ha ha....
      Look folks, I'm a huge fan of Bird, Magic, Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Olajuwon and other greats BUT, besides Wilt (_maybe_ tho that's another topic), legitimately no other player in league history has had to face the depth of a whole-team-focused-against-one-player defensive arrangement as MJ did in 89 & 90 Detroit. NO, not even Jordan himself would ever face a strategy so all-encompassing again. For reference, NO... not even the early 90's Knicks series: even that was qualitatively different to the things I described above... (because Jordan finally had Pippen (version 2.0), Grant and some serviceable role players.)
      LowEnd... appreciate you listening. =] And thank u for raising the main points as u did above. You're right: people who didn't watch and witness... just plain ol' do not know. Cheers

    I’m new to the channel and I really appreciate the analysis you bring across multiple eras.
    As a Pistons fan, I also appreciate you describing some of the elements of their success (in particularly, crediting their often-overlooked depth).
    I’d love to see a video that focused on the Bad Boys. There have been some takes about how they matched up against the Bulls, but I’m interested in how they found success against other superstars like Wilkins or Miller.
    In particular, I’d like to hear how they gameplanned and executed against teams with multiple threats like the Celtics and Lakers (yes, both were hit with injuries in ‘89, but the Pistons also beat them or took them to 7 in ‘87, ‘88, and ‘91). Against the Bulls, it seems a lot of their approach involved completely disrespecting the non-Jordan Bulls, which doesn’t seem like an option against teams with second and third options like Kareem, Worthy, McHale, and Parrish. So how did they compete with and beat those teams?

      Obviously there's differences between eras coming down to rule changes and the meta but saying the late 80's and 90's was low IQ, unskilled ball is just absurd. Overall shot percentages haven't changed much despite the modern restrictions on defense. They shoot a lot more 3s but at the cost of many having a weaker mid-range.
      They could be much more physical back then whereas now they have to open the floor and barely even bother with offensive rebounds much of the time. Flopping always happened but nowhere near what we see now. It's so common they actually had to add flopping-related rules. Every season there's a montage of ghost fouls that we rarely saw back then.

    2 things, 1st that was the game that Doug Collins fired, looking back it was clear that Doug Collins had no answers to what the Pistons were doing against MJ. 2nd thing, this video shows just how much help Jordan didn't have in Paxson and Pippen and the rest of his supporting cast that the Pistons were clearly not worried about. However yes they all grew up and got better and became great champions but clearly the rest of the players needed work. In comes Phil Jackson with the Triangle Offense, 2 years they win beating Detroit handedly and 6 rings in 8 years!
