This video is meant for the less tech savy among us, so please share it with family and friends who are in the market for a new Laptop or PC. Often people who don't know much about computers won't look for help on a website like TH-cam, so I would really appreciate it if you could show them. :D
Oh and this is the first beginners buying guide that I've done, let me know if you think I should do more videos like this.
    Thank you for watching.

I am sorry, who are you?! This (and the fact that you have a whole TH-cam channel dedicated to this shit) is so freaking awesome, I can't even deal! I literally made a TH-cam channel so I could comment on this. Seriously amazing Dawido.
Although the tech stuff is mind-blowing, I think my actual favourite things about this were you're subtle patriotic clothing choices (Namibia and UCT T-shirts). Made me miss you and Anna loads, hope you guys (and you're mad cute cat) are super well!

Your video is nice, but the only useful takeaway I got was to buy a computer with an SSD. I was hoping you would have talked about desired amount of RAM, differences between a PC and an apple computer (pros and cons of each). Windows 10 vs 11 on a PC etc..

My stepdad has me using his 9 year old computer. It's very slow, and shut's down randomly frequently, although, he refuses to get me a new one, and tells me to delete stuff that may be slowing it down. I do, and it still continues to randomly shut down. It's very frustrating.

I got into computers two months ago, when I decided 7fps on a game I liked is unacceptable and I happened to have 1000€ to spend. To anyone who wants pc for more than browsing internet, I recommend building their own. It's very simple and actually quite a lot cheaper. I loved building my own, gathering info and everything was fun. Altough I didn't rely entirely on reviews, which advised me to buy rtx2070 instead of vega 64, but I didn't feel like paying 30% more for about 10% more performance and I don't regret it. I even built it in an old case I had laying around to save more money. Ended up being a cool sleeper, I love it!

    • @DawidDoesTechStuff

That sounds really great. I think you made a great choice going for the Vega 64 over the RTX 2070. The Vega is great value for money. :D

hey Dawid, i got a question i want to ask _
I do have a pretty beefy RTX 2080TI PC that i have been enjoying for a few years now, playing games and whatnot. I also have a macbook air M1 that i recently bought for school. I have realised that I dont really play my games ever since I have gone to university. I feel like having two systems for my use is redundant since i have seen many sweet setups just powered by a macbook, but im not sure if i do want to sell the computer off since its my workhorse. Note that my uni course just requires word doucments processing.

    Hi Dawid,
Maybe you can help...my current computer has the following specs: i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM and a NVIDIA GeForece GT 750M(which is useless). Both the processor and graphics card are less than required for some architecture software I'd like to run on it. Is it possible to upgrade either of these and would you advise this? My other option is to sell the computer and use some minimal savings to buy a new one?

    • @DawidDoesTechStuff
      @DawidDoesTechStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello Frederick,
Unfortunately I don't have much good news for you. You won't be able to upgrade your laptop in any meaningful way to help it run architecture software. If you are running something like CAD, you need a pretty beastly system to get great performance on that. I had some friends who studied architecture and they always complained about how demanding all their software was. I think your best bet would be to sell it and try to get a more recent laptop.
However first do some research on how much you can get for it where you live and what your budget would be for a new Laptop. If you don't have enough to get something decent new, you could look into a second hand laptop.

Thanks for the vid. Im in the market for a new computer as I have had this 1 {laptop} for almost 10 years and am holding it together with "Harbor Freight" clamps. I most use it for "Ebay" and "TH-cam" movies ..{hooked to my big screen}. Anyhow the only problem I have with the "SSD" is I have "Photo Shop" on disk, I'm guessing theres some cool way of linking the computers or would I buy a external "CD'DVD" reader/burner? What would be the best method? PS only have $450-500 tops! I can spend and what are ur thoughts about "Chrome Books"?

I have had only two notebook computers, both ASUS and they were really great! I would consider another notebook computer if it is cheap enough and if I could find a company that would have a layaway since I am on social security and don't have much money to spare on a real expensive machine. I need to buy a new computer before support ends for Windows 8.1, hope I could before that happens. I bought my ACER in 2015 with Windows 8.1 and need to get current for today's standards. I hope to get Nero 2022 I believe, to help edit my videos, after I found that Nero software in the dumpster I love using it. Have A Blessed Day and Night!

(This is for my discussion board purposes lol dont bother to read this) SSD should be present, rather than a normal hard drive. It is quieter and turning on and opening apps is much faster. It is more durable and uses less power, as well. However, they are more expensive than normal drives.
I use my computer for homework including internet and Microsoft Word (like Steve). I should look for an SSD with more than 8 gigs of RAM and avoid Celeron (since it is very expensive). Finding one in budget that fits these criteria is fairly easy, as long as research is done to make sure there have been good reviews on the computer. Paying attention to the specific name of the computer when researching is important.

But it seems like a terrible machine for playing even some of the simpler games like minecraft. Cportable machine that does what I need it to if I travel, Im looking to get a desktop that can handle things like Photoshop, After Affects, and Illustrator but also handle games easily while streaming as well (as Ive gotten into that as a hobby).

If you buy from a reputable company, a refurbished system will have the same warranty as a new computer.

Why would you say that an i7 is not better than an i5 for Facebook or other uses? CPU Speed is Very Important as are higher capacity accessories and Quality (and the Famed, SSD drive, which are add-on for all but the newest, high priced Computer systems).

Web browsing doesn't really require a whole lot of processing power. For browsing FB, TH-cam, or emailing or just basic tasks, an i7 CPU doesn't make any sense.

Ok guys, the all you have to do is to buy a SSD, don't care about the processor, the graphic card or the RAM. Just look if it have an ssd. That's what process everything in the PC.

Hi!i already have a computer but I've had it for about 3 years and it was cheap and now everything is slow on it. For example i can't watch a movie without it stoping every 5 seconds wether it was online or offline. Do i need to buy a new better one or is there a way to fix my computer for a low price?

It helps to know what hardware you have, or at the very least, the model number of the PC before trying to help.

I'm looking for a 16" screen and a computer that I play games. Minor games, like hidden object, watch TH-cam and tictoc and create homeless guides. That's a out the extent of what I do. There are SO many computers I'm completely lost. Yes I'm old, but not a beginner. I just need someone who can suggest several computers to choose from. Please help and I have about 500 to spend
