I ended up getting mini PC with OCulink port for eGPU goodness. Yes it’s more expense, but it provides a means by which to access high end gaming if I want it and an upgrade path too. Price to performance even with an eGPU will of course be in favor of the larger system. You’re paying for form factor with the mini pc, just like with small form factor builds. But there’s definitely a market for playing games at lower specs but being able to easily travel with it (Steam Deck says hello).
Very few GPUs(PCIe 4.0 GPUs) are limited by PCIe 4.0x4 bandwidth. You'll have no problem with an RTX 4070 Super/4070Ti. Even a 4090 loses "only 20%" performance when not using an external monitor and next to nothing when using one. Regarding power, it depends on what PSU you are using.@@georgeyreynolds
That's a terrible idea, as eGPUs are massively limited by the bandwidth of the connector and that's not even factoring in the extra latency created from the less direct connection to a CPU. It's fine if you're running something like a cheaper 20-series, but don't for a second think that you're going to throw in something powerful like a 3080 or better and get anywhere near intended performance. If you're lucky, you'll get like 80% of the performance of the GPU. And it gets worse the more powerful you get in GPUs, which means you can't just talk about how the external GPU will allow you to keep upgrading over time. Add up the cost of this mini PC, a good GPU, and an eGPU enclosure and you could have just bought yourself a 4070 or 4080 laptop.
@@georgeyreynolds Yes, it is. eGPUs were fine for when GPUs were less powerful, but honestly at this point it's kind of a waste of money when you realize the power of modern laptops.
We all know not to plug the monitor in the motherboard's HDMI port, but accidentally blocking it with the IO shield is a strategy I haven't seen before... 😆
For people who don't know or don't want to learn, with even kids who play Roblox or Minecraft, it's not a bad idea to pick one of these up for relatively cheap. Cheapest one goes for $150 honestly though past $500-$600 is a bit ridiculous, you're better off learning how to build a PC if you're going past that price range. Ofc the cheaper the Mini PC the less likely it's going to perform well with gaming, overall it's a pretty good market for Mini PC's right now. A lot of parents and businesses could use these.

Waking up from a very alcohol filled night, eating some chicken nuggets and seeing the random canadian guy from youtube uploaded a new tech stuff video. As best as this sunday could get 😁
You should do a side by side video, showing the entire build process of the custom PC on one side, and struggling to get the miniPC out of the box on the other side.
PC cases used to have slot backplates that you had to wiggle around to break out of the back of the case itself. I’ve seen more than a couple that were like lancets with a sharp point on the end.
The timing of this video is perfect because i just recently purchased an rx6600....currently waiting for the rest of the components to build my new pc 😅
Great GPU for 1080p/1440p gaming on high (or even ultra) settings. Got the PowerColor Fighter version of the RX 6600 in one of my rigs myself. Runs cool, performance is extremely stable and it's such a good value. I do suggest changing the fan-curve (from factory the fans are off until the card reaches 60c in temp). The fans aren't loud so there's not really any reason to keep them off, better to have a solid curve via MSI Afterburner for example so they are always on. A cool running card, is a long lived card after all. Mine runs at 40% until it reaches 60c, then it climbs to 65% followed by a steady climb until it matches 100/100 temp/%. Since I changed that, I have never seen GPU temps over 58c, not even while playing Dead Space Remake or Cyberpunk with the graphics cranked.
the funny thing is the xbox one/series sx and ps4/ps5 are already gaming pcs in a smaller footprint than a desktop pc. what would be cool is if you could replace the os of the consoles with windows and see how they perform in gaming in comparison.
Whenever a friend or a colleague asks me about the value of miniPCs, I tend to limit them to client-side office stuff or as media servers. There's a big push for portraying them as "mobile", but I don't see the point of that form factor in this respect - not when laptops exist. I use a miniPC for work (clerical stuff, nothing fancy) and have a full-on gaming PC at home. I use a laptop anywhere that doesn't fit either location, and I have a Steam Deck. I have been running the Beelink SER models for a couple years now, and I love them. Your review is pretty spot on with what I have noticed. I just built my son a gaming PC, as he wants to play new titles, and the SER can't play them smoothly. My SER(one generation newer than his), plays the slightly older titles that I play just fine. They make adapters so that you can add an external GPU to a mini PC. It's something I may try at some point, but for now, this tiny PC does everything I need.
Oh I hate those cheap IO plates with all the little tabs for grounding. First ever PC build decades ago I would up with one of them going into my cuticle on the top rear of my nail. They're nothing but trouble. Thinking about it reminded me of when I bought a Zalman cooler once and didn't realize their fins at that time were razor sharp and sliced all the fingers on my hand up just taking it out of the package (and got various cuts anytime I would need to go into that PC for the rest of its life).
i got a rx 6600 for around the same price on black friday and i love it. it slayed anything at a1080p for me. i recently swapped it into my mining rig and its killing it in there too.
Getting the impression that Dawid likes the mini pc. I use mine for home entertainment. Smaller than any console or mini atx you can get, able to emulate nearly every console, and, no matter what, when you are sitting on the couch you cant hear these things. Plus, if im going to do anybserious gaming, ut wont be in the living room 😂
Efficiency wise that mini pc manages to do all that while consuming 1/3 of what the PC draws and it's small too. Definitely not for everyone but oh boy it come a long way
the last ITX rig I built (with a NZXT H1 V2) had a Ryzen 9 5950X and a RTX 3090 in it. So, yeah. (replaced the stock 850w PSU with a Silverstone 1000w SFX)
Which is more expensive than the PS5 of Xbox series X ? Replacing the RX6600 with a LP 3040 (also know as the 3050 6Gb version) and a microatx sized case would make a far better SteamOS system. MiniPC are overpriced or underpowered and can't be easily upgraded. Promoting ewaste basically!

Thanks for that visual at the end lol
Thanks Dawid for the furniture suggestion, I now have a great idea to spice up my next funeral
That mini pc supports EGPUs as well via USB4 if it's the one I think it is. Still would lose out to a custom tower, and EGPUs are still not as stable or performant because of being done over usb, but they're getting better. It's interesting stuff, thanks for the video.
They are if the use Oculink, which is essentially a PCIe Gen 4 lane connected to another using a cable.
3:45 I actually was considering buying that cooler master case for a really cheap pc build
2:36 I will confidently tell you that I have an ASRock A320-HDV R4.0 and that's the exact I/O shield it comes with.
3:32 In theory, you could put 64 GB in there because the 5000 series supports a maximum of 128 GB of RAM.
mini pc igpu still put up a good fight, 10 years from now the graphics will be crazy good
6:20 yep, that's where i expected that stupid tab for the HDMI port on the i/o shield to end up. Very realistic build process, Dawid 😂
I love this case
new era of mini pc start right now . With M4 MAC MINI .
Some nice Pulseless Electrical Activity going on the telemetry of the RX6600 there
*sigh*
I'm gonna get accused of plagiarism in about two weeks.
Unlucky
"This is a surprisingly powerful pile of stuff."
Drugs, or the parts for a budget build? You decide!
To me as a Finn those SER models are funny. Here SER = Sekalainen ElektroniikkaRomu, caps for emphasis, which means "mixed electronics waste" harhar
So you also noticed they aren't gaming PCs.
did you run on any issues so far?
Definitely not for everyone but oh boy it come a long way
4:38 as a semi-pro fighter with quite a bit of ring experience, that shit made me cry :(
Have you changed the UMA frame buffer on the mini PC? to match the vram amount on the RX 6600
Not going to lie, I am kinda diggin the mustard and catchup color scheme.
Nice, I built my moms PC in the black version of that case.. it was decent to build in :D
Like your The Bay cup. Soooo Canadian.
the last ITX rig I built (with a NZXT H1 V2) had a Ryzen 9 5950X and a RTX 3090 in it. So, yeah. (replaced the stock 850w PSU with a Silverstone 1000w SFX)
Sorting by low to high price definitely the goat shopping option 🔥
No one can predict what's gonna happen in the future. But nowadays, how big it is indicates how strong it is. Plain and simple.
Nice screwing and cable management :)
Installing a SteamOS like OS on the Mini PC and throwing it in your living room would make it a great mini game console.
Thiddy too
Graphic violence with this build!
It would be nice to see the power draw between the two systems as well.
As a fellow Canadian, i have to say Canada Computers has some really good deals on pretty decent stuffs. I build a lot of PCs from there. :)
"You can get access to the insides through the bottom" me pretending to be mature 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love how Dawid had the same reaction to the headphone holdy-thing as I did, but I noticed it by accident while removing the front panel.
why dont you plug in an external gpu to that mini pc?
like an egpu
awesome as always
thank you for the video
I have 7940HS and I already know this or something similar will be the wife's new PC. She's on an 11700K right now and it's good for a few more years.
