Nick cave & the bad seeds - murder ballads 7. Joy division - unknown pleasures 8. Sisters of mercy - first and last and always 9. Siouxsie & the banshees - kaleidoscope 10. The Cure - pornography
I agree with Juju at #1- it's my favorite goth album (though there's a lot I still need to listen to)- and I agree that "Into the Light" is its best song.
Yaaassss for Paralysis Permanente!!! Love how a Spanish album made it on your list, I'm officially a fan of yours. Thnx for the diversity Kelly much love(for the dead)
I bought my first record player about a week ago and the first albums I bought were Juju by Siouxsie and the Banshees and Futile Combat by Skeletal Family! I plan on buying all of the records on your list (and many, many more, of course!). I love goth rock, deathrock, and darkwave, but I think goth post-punk is my all-time favorite.
I just found your great channel while looking for music recommendations and as someone from Germany I just have to say that your pronunciation of the German songtitles is very cute. It genuinely made me smile ^^
Hi I enjoyed watching you discuss your list.👍🏽 I'm not so familiar with Skeletal Family, so I will be checking out more of their music. These are my top ten favorite post punk albums.... 1. Bauhaus- In The Flat Field 2. Bauhaus- Mask 3. The Birthday Party- Prayers On Fire 4. The Cure- Seventeen Seconds 5. The Cure- Faith 6. The Cure- Pornography 7. Joy Division- Unknown Pleasures 8. Joy Division- Closer 9. Siouxsie & The Banshees- Kaleidoscope 10. Siouxsie & The Banshees Juju
Thanks for this!!! I agree in every album!! And now i must check in out the Skeleton Family Albums!! and thanks for mention that glorious album from Paralisis Permanente from my country!! In that post punk/goth spanish way i recommend you Decima Victima and Castillo Interior from the same years!!
I love Burning from the Inside. I'm glad to see someone else consider it their favourite. It was my first proper full Bauhaus album. Other than the black and white "best of" compilations, and the live album Gotham, it was the only album I found local to me back when I first got into them nearly 20 years ago. I was about to name my favourite tracks and realized it would be half the album. I'll just say that Kingdom's Coming was the first Bauhaus song I ever heard and is what made me seek them out further. And Hope is such a wonderful closer. Great video as always. You have a few here that are somewhat blind spots for me so I will have something new to check out in the interim until your next video! Thanks!
Love this channel! wow, half of these bands Ive never heard of and I thought that i was goth back in the 80s we had the big names of course, the Cure, Sister, Bauhaus, and Joy but the other bands are new to me! now Ive got homework and I gotta check out all these cool, new old bands! thanks for doing these, brings back alot of great memories and the scene was incredible back then..the 80s really were the best decade for music!!!!
I been a Siouxsie and Banshees fan since 1977.( the greatest band ever ( an oldie) you got a interesting channel , may i suggest you listen to a band called Cranes and their album Forever you may be pleasantly surprise by them.
Fantastic collection of vinyl. I have been trying to find Skeletal Family Futile Combat on CD as I have almost all of my music in this format. Discogs possibly? May I also suggest an Italian group called Neon? I discovered them via TH-cam suggestions. Great material. More on the dark wave side but, really good.👻🌙💀👍
I’ll check them out! Thanks for the suggestion. 🙂 You may be able to find the CDs you’re looking for on eBay. I think I got at least one of my Skeletal Family records there.
I’m new to the gothic subculture, I wanna learn more about it see wether I should be in the goth subculture or enjoy music/ fashion of different subcultures including goth and just be my nameless blob of a subculture. I’ve been getting into post punk recently and I rlly like the subculture, I watched a few other of ur videos and I think they r very educational. I’ve been a huge fan of the cure love them, especially disintegration and porngraphy. And I love joy division, both closer and unknown pleasures are great albums. If u wanna give me any advice or any other post punk or any other gothic genre artist suggestions pls reply down below I’d be happy to explore them.
Oui, c'est pas mal, mais j'aurais mis au moins Closer de joy division, et If, I die, I die... Des virgin prunes. Après, c'est un choix. Pour Siouxsie and the banshees, j'aurais mis plutôt join hands, mais j'aime juju.
I recommend a couple of albums of very little known and buried bands For against- echelons, My dad is dead - peace love and murder, De press- Product, Ikon Band australian, Glorius din- closely watched trains. this is for those passionate about post punk
Personally I could never get into Seventeen Seconds because it’s really not mixed that well compared to The Cure’s later stuff. Pornography will always be fav, followed by Faith. Anyways, great list regardless, although I’m a little saddened that JD didn’t make the cut. Keep up the good work!
I met siouxie many yrs ago, and my friend was s HUGE fan, and what is wild, he told me to talk to her n keep her busy, so i did...then he walked behind her, pulled out scissors n cut a piece of her hair for a souvenir lol...
I'm a Curehead. It's all about The Cure. So most of the music I like is 80s post-punk. Killing Joke (NIGHTTIME), The Names (SWIMMING), The Chameleons (SCRIPT OF THE BRIDGE), The Sound (FROM THE LIONS MOUTH). Then there's Twin Tribes. Twin Tribes CEREMONY is a masterpiece. And that's a 2019 album! Gothic post-punk is alive.
@@CadaverKelly Oh - sorry. Was working and watching in the back ground so my attention wasn't quite on it. Im enjoying your vlogs immensely, I am in my late 40's and was a hardcore goth when it was a current scene. I 100% found my way there via Siouxsie & the B's and they remain a special and all time favourite of mine. If you've never tried Fields of the Nephilim - I would highly recommend and Swans (OMG Swans are insanely good)- they are actually more Noise Rock but the 'Love of life and 'White light from the mouth of infinity albums are heavily Goth and are pretty dark. But dman good. Thanks for the reply. keep on spreading the word.
Thank you so much! am very familiar with FotN and Swans. The goth scene is actually thriving in modern day! I’m a music journalist, promoter, and DJ. Up until the pandemic hit, I was covering 1-2 events per week. Hopefully the scene will be thriving once we’re post-pandemic. 😊
Excellent list! I've always called One Hundred Years off Pornography the most goffik track ever laid down. Fog machines turn on and bats begin swarming when the song starts.
There truly is a HUGE difference between old "new wave" folks from the 80s (like myself) and "Goths" from the late 90's to today. I do think that you are much more informed than most of the "goth" kids out there. Be well lady
Great video

Sky’s gone out is my fave Bauhaus and my first
Gothic Post-Punk Is my favorite style of goth music. Nice
I agree with Juju at #1- it's my favorite goth album (though there's a lot I still need to listen to)- and I agree that "Into the Light" is its best song.
Mine too and agree with that song but Nighy Shift is my number two ❤
Yaaassss for Paralysis Permanente!!! Love how a Spanish album made it on your list, I'm officially a fan of yours. Thnx for the diversity Kelly much love(for the dead)
Great choices of Albums - ESPECIALLY listing The Cure multiple times..
I'd throw in Catastrophe Ballet from Christian Death

Pornography is the Cure’s “Stairway to Heaven”.
Almost, cause stairway is a plagiarism but pornography is authentic!
I'm from Spain and I love the inclusion of Parálisis Permanente. I sang a couple of songs with a punk band
I appreciate the fact you such eclectic picks, personally its awesome that you included Skeletal Family ! Keep up the epic content!
Into the light is my favourite song of all time as well! Amazing list.

I feel so represented, Juju is my #1 too
And Into the Light is my favorite track
Yesss! Great taste 😊
And to be completely honest, my top ten wouldn’t be any different.

Thank you for letting me give you a hello last night in Tampa, you are an angel! Love your channel 😍🖤
Thank you for saying hello! It was so nice to meet you 😃
I saw the " Cities in Dust " tour back in the 80's and it was the best concert i've ever seen.
I am totally jealous! Please tell me you took pictures 🥺
@@voodoochild7533 sadly no 😥 I was never more excited except when I saw BLONDIE'S No Exit comeback tour!
Totally agree with juju the only Sioux album I own and love Great video.
By the way, I'm latino and I love how you pronounce "Parálisis Permanente" Love from Chile.
Haha, I’m sure I butcher it with my American accent. Thank you for watching! 🖤
@@CadaverKelly Better than when I say "Siouxie Sioux", Trust me xD

U have such good taste!
Thank you! 🙂
What's the name of the track playing in the background?
Into The Light, Monitor and Night Shift are my fave from Juju! 💜
Yess, such a great album! The background track is stock music from the TH-cam free audio library. I don’t have the track name handy.
Bauhaus and The Cure 🖤🕯️🖤
Great albums.

I think the samhain--november coming fire should be on there
every goth top ten should have the Samhain album-november coming fire

Into the Flatfield is soo good. No Virin Prunes?? Sad
do you like the damned?

No Fields of the Nephilim? No Sisters of Mercy?
I do have Sisters records but those are goth rock. This video was for post-punk.
