She Past Away & Lebanon Hanover have been on HEAVY rotation in our house lately. Super stoked to see She Past Away in July. Drab Majesty just released a new album this month too.
I believe Drab Majesty only released a single and will be releasing the rest of the album in July. I plan to review it! 😊 Virgin in Veil just released a new album this week but it was after I recorded the video so I may end up doing a review for that one as well.
A Goth in an Alcove Excellent! I’m glad to make a few recommendations. I love introducing people to new bands because they put so much work into their music and it really helps them out. 😊
"Goth isn't just 5 bands from the 80s" is the excuse people give to include genres that are goth-friendly but didn't come from goth themselves. What they don't know is is that bands are still releasing music that sounds like The Sisters of Mercy/Bauhaus/Siouxsie and the Banshees in the 2010s. Great video. I personally like This Cold Night, Rituel Veil, Horror Vacui, Shadow Image, Bat Nouveau, etc.
Abigail Sharples Some really good ones in there! I think the only one that made this list was Merciful Nuns but it was really hard to pick. So much good goth music in the past decade! 😃
Well Kelly I must say that I don’t know some of the bands that you have mentioned and I love that fact, I love to discover new sounds. I’m doing my also a top 10 but I started from the 80s :) keep it up!
This video is great, I’ve really been meaning to get into more modern goth bands! So far my personal favorite modern goth bands are Lebanon Hanover, Twin Tribes, She Past Away, Molchat Doma, and House of Harm.
I already had Ángels of Liberty, Drab Majesty and Lebanon Hanover on my playlist, but I will be pretty busy checking out and adding all the others, particularly Cruz De Nsvajas, as a Mexican myself I always get pretty excited when I find out about a new Mexican goth band. Thanks Kelly, as always great video!
Such a prolific decade for the genre, my second favorite after the '80s! I would add Ritual Howls, Beastmilk/Grave Pleasures, Night Sins, Double Echo, Horror Vacui. Thanks for your channel, Kelly. Greetings from cold Russia;)
Uhh love the idea 😍 it’s so cool to find new music! You have to check out Her Despair. Don’t know when they were found but they are amazing if you like the sound of Merciful Nuns/ Sisters of Mercy ☺️
This video is super helpful for a newbie to goth music such as myself. I will check out all these bands. I look forward to hearing about your favorite bands from other decades in upcoming videos!
You rekindled my love for gothic music. I stopped listening as much for a while since I like other music too. I had a hard time finding contemporary goth bands I liked since a lot just sounded like they were trying to be joy division a little too much. Love drab majesty, lebanon hanover, and she past away though!
Jeanette Martinez That’s really exciting to hear! There’s been a lot of great music coming out lately and a lot of goths who dropped off for a while are returning to the scene. It’s a great time for goth! 😃
Jeanette Martinez I like Boy Harsher as well! I’m going to try to find a way to talk about other recent bands that didn’t make this list in other videos. Soo much good music these days 😃
I LOVE that you chose AOL as number 1, they are one of my all time favorite bands and I used to be pretty good friends with Voe. I had never heard Nox Novacula before so I went and checked them out and thought it was pretty good. Thanks again for the great content always look forward to your videos.
I'll definitely check out your deathrock picks (Catastrophe Ballet is one of my favourite albums) and I know her music falls under Folk Rock, but do you like Chelsea Wolfe?
Excellent video sweetie as always and great choices! Love your earnings Oh and..... YAY thank you sooooo much for the mention, we REALLY appreciate you and Jims support :-) Xxxx
I had never heard of any of these bands before, but I checked some of them out and I love them already. I'm still not sure what to classify these bands as, but I've been listening to Night Sins, Death Bells, Long Night, Ritual Veil, Fotocrime, This Cold Night and All Your Sisters a lot lately, if anyone's looking for more music to look up :)
I love that you gave a shout-out to Nox Novacula, Lebanon Hanover, and Angels of Liberty. You're right, I always thought Charlotte Eve Blythe's vocal stylings reminded me of Grace Slick's. However, her voice also kind of reminds me of Jinx Dawson's from Coven. Anyway, I look forward to hearing more releases from Nox Novacula. There's so many awesome, recently-established goth bands out there -- one just has to peruse more often, since most are underground/independent. From this time period, there's seriously so much noteworthy music coming from the following bands: Death Party UK, Night Nail, Sixth June, Luna Reign & Strap On Halo (*formed in the late 90s, but most of their albums were released around 2009 & over) -- to name a few. On a sad note, it's a shame about Voe Saint-Claire. R.I.P. 🖤
Great picks! Christ vs. Warhol is an amazing band. Not enough people know of them. I'm one of those people that thought of Drab Majesty as a goth band, but recently with their newest single I'm seeing how they're moving toward more a new wave/shoegaze style, rather than the darkwave/etherealwave stuff they were originally putting out. Still really adjacent, and it's obvious they were always influenced by both goth/gaze and new wave, but it seems they're just really dipping into that sound more and more, rather than sticking to a goth structure.
Accumortis Definitely! Most wave and post-punk styles are still very goth-friendly even if their music structure is a bit different. Drab Majesty is awesome. I have all their stuff on record with the exception of the upcoming release. I’ll probably do an album review for that. 🙂
Lebanon Hanover definitely is my favourite new band. I love their sound and much appreciate the vibes that they do. They are very clever in their music.
Ive been hearing more about Drab Majesty, they have a cool music video up as of a few weeks ago. And she past away is a goth band from Turkey I believe hence the voice probably. Lebanon Hanover is one of my favorites. Nice list 👻
There's some new Nox Novacula releases now!! And they're great live too!! (in case anyone's curious) I'm also a fan of Christ Vs Warhol hehe ^.^ thanks for the reccomendations I haven't heard of too !
Angels of Liberty was an awesome band. Their last album, "Servant of the Veil", was sooooo GOOD. I love using their tunes in my mixes. It's too bad they are no longer around.
New Sub here! But I'm happy to see you are educating others on the Gothic Subgenres & the community as a whole! I have heard most of these but some I have not. I am definitely looking into the others & I appreciate these types of channels so much!!! Keep making awesome, interactive & interesting content!
I love, love, love Merciful Nuns and She Past Away!!! I'm so glad you included them because they are two of my favourite goth bands in general. I am going to see She Past Away in the autumn, and I don't think that we will ever see Merciful Nuns at this point, unfortunately... ;) She Past Away's album you mentioned means: sensitive loneliness (or solitude). I've been wanting to explore Angels of Liberty, so this video has inspired me to do so. Thank you! Another band from this decade that I like is Canis Lupus. Also, I agree with you that Drab Majesty isn't really goth. I see them reminiscent of new wave. Keep up the great work! 🦇🦇🦇
@@CadaverKelly Thank you! I am so excited to see them! If I get good pictures, I'll send them to you and your husband via your business e-mail again. 😊
"Merciful Nuns" is just a renamed "The Garden Of Delight" (guess with more electronic elements).. .G.O.D. was one of my faves "back in the days" Note there are 2 bands named Garden Of Delight. Another fave of mine were first 2-3 albums from Love Like Blood. I did not find The Nuns to be better than GOD.
well damm, i came across one of AoL's songs last year by pure chance, kinda gutted they ain't a thing anymore, that said, after your recommendation on the last video (which i liked a lot btw) i will be checking all these bands out at some point.
Thanks for these! 😊 Maybe you'd like The Flatfield, also from Finland? Btw, do you review singles, seeing that whole albums are still a thing in this subculture?
Hateful Chains I review EPs and albums but not singles. Although, I could potentially do a video in the future reviewing a number of different singles. I would just need enough material to justify making a whole video.
I am totally obsessed with Drab Majesty right now-also going to see She Past Away in November at Whitby-just discovered Nox......that's so sad the band member died of your favourite band!!
Glad you mentioned Christ vs. Warhol...LOVE them! Also love Nox Novacula. Not too familiar with a couple you mentioned, so I will check them out. Thanks!
Great job. Very informative. I've been into Metal since the early 80s but recently I really started given Goth a try. There's a lot more Goth bands Then I thought there was. I hope this doesn't sound weird but if MTV (back in the early 80s) had a Goth Hour, you would make the best VJ. Keep up the good work and I get the most and best info on Goth from your channel. \m/
The bassist/vocalist & keyboardist in Virgin in Veils are in Masquerade now, the keyboardist Suzi is the singer. Lebanon Hanover is one of my all time favorite bands. Just stunning. They have a new album out at the minute.
I'm such a nerd .... Xibalba is "place of fear" in Mayan, I think it's- shee-bal-ba. WOW!!!!!!! 😲I FREAKIN love that you mentioned Cruz De Navajas!!!!!!!!!, that one means "cross of razors". My favorite song on that album is.... well I have 2 "Esclaves"😍 & "Ciudad 40"😍
Merciful Nuns is a totally new name for me. I love Sisters of Mercy, so I am very hopeful that I will like Merciful Nuns too. I am a HUGE fan of all old wax trax bands. This goes all the way back to discovering KMFDM while still in my high school heavy metal phase. I mentioned to my metal band at the time, that we should get some keyboards, and they told me to leave the band! lol I did, and never looked back.
@@joaoguimaraes4993 wow took you 5 years to respond. Good job. Also when the comment was made, they were still relatively new, at least to ME. Thanks for the unnecessary comment :^)
Kelly, you should check out a band called In Letter Form. They put out two LPs in the 2010s, the second of which, called Fracture Repair Repeat is in my opinion a gothic masterpiece, before their singer died just a few months after it's release. check out the videos for their songs 'Edison's Medicine' and 'Wait Now'.
I've seen some of these bands in Texas (Nox Novacula, Cruz de Navajas, Belgrado) thanks to Robert, the drummer for Christ vs. Warhol, who I've also seen live at Robert's DIY dark music fest San La Muerte. He's an amazing guy and loved your video when I showed him! PS - Check out Twin Tribes.
As someone who has always been a fan of the darker side of things, I have only recently been digging into the music of the subculture. So these videos are great! Do any of you have playlists? Post them. I want to consume all of the darkness.
I'm a bit late, but Twin Tribes is one of my personal favorites from the 2010s AND they're Texas boys like myself, but this is still a really great list! Angels of Liberty is fuckin wicked. 🤘🖤
The Wake, from the 90s but very good, NFD, Rubicon and the wright brothers all ancient performers from fields of the nephilim, eden house from fields the mission and others groups ..specialy the female voices, evie vine..etc...funny but some kind of italo disco is goth too...there are so many italian goth bands, and from east europe...
It's been several months since you posted this video so I sure hope you read just how well pleased to mention Grace Slick. I've been a fan of the Airplane since 1968. Anyway, are you familiar with the albums Grace and Paul Kantner released after the Airplane broke up? If not, I suggest you listen to Sunfighter as well as Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun. There are a few songs on them I would consider, as you would put it, Goth adjacent. If you know and like anything about psychedelic music, I encourage you to listen to the Airplane's 3rd Album, After Bathing At Baxter's. Stated simply, it is a record the masses would not appreciate or understand. Lest I forget, there was another San Francisco group named It's A Beautiful Day which you might like with all its violin and classical elements. If you don't listen to any of the rest of the recording, you simply must sample Girl With No Eyes. The harpsichord, violin and vocals will send chills down your spine.
Have you ever listened to The Eden House, Fotocrime, or Red Sun Revival? They all have some great music -- and after seeing your "Goth Genre, Subgenre, or Style?" video I'd actually be curious as to how goth you see them as being.
The only goth band I knew from the 2010s was Terminal Gods. Great 'trad goth' (ie drum machine & guitars) band from the UK. I will have to check all these out
Just checked out Virgin in Veil kind of sound like if Slipknot (like the note choices and slowed down version of slipknot drumming) went goth in a sense. Just to clarify I like both Goth and metal music, I'm not a metalhead only just recently trying to get into goth. A friend of mine told me about She past away before the pandemic or during can't remember and have been listening ever since
Do you know Whispering Sons? It's a postpunk/goth band from Belgium and I think they're amazing. Because you like Cruz de Navajas I thought you could also like them - they're both intense in a similar way.
If you haven't heard of them, I just discovered Kaelan Mikla a week or two ago, and I'm in love. They're an all female trio from Iceland formed in the middle of this decade, and they really throw me back to the '90s Darkwave era. I know they are not completely in the Goth vein (started out with a Punk slant), but their 2018 release saw a turn toward Darkwave.
saw She Past Away & Drab Majesty recently, great show from both bands, here are 3 bands from this era that are way better than the 10 listed here .. Actors, from Canada, have taken the original 80's goth sound and brought it right up to date, on record they are good, but live, they are fantastic .. Liquid Grey, from Norway, are a bit heavier than most Goth bands, imagine SOM mixed with early Black Sabbath .. and then there is Auger, from the UK, this duo have their roots firmly in the 1980's, but the guitar work is right up to date, along the lines of the more mellow side to Amorphis ....... something new to try out at least ;-)
I love Actors! I have seen them live with Bootblacks a few times. They are a little more on the New Wave side but I’m thinking about doing some New Wave/Synthpop videos as well. 😊
I would give an honorable mention to Chelsea Wolfe. She leans more towards folk or doom metal but some of her earlier work, particularly Apokalypsis, has some clear goth influence.
Speaking as a grandad whom wasn’t a Goth by loved killing joke , the cure , this moral coil , Cocteau twins , xymox and The Mission , “ Christ vs Warhol “ LOOK like a Gothband should look like here in the future. Are Trees of Eternity a Goth band ? Beautiful anyway. I know many believe “ Bela Lagusis’ Dead “ is ‘ the first ‘ Goth song but although the band weren’t shrouded in black , Van Der Graff Generators’ “ White Hammer “ from 10. Years before that ( 1969 ) is to my ears pretty Gothic if not Goth Rock. Considering this was only 2 years after the “ summer of love “ it’s. very cool. How about ‘ MGT ‘ ? Handsome young fella sings with old guy whom played guitar for The Mission. Thanks for enlightening this old bloke 🏴😇❤️from Wilverley Enclosure Witches in Wessex
Hi there! I know this might sound crazy but the other night I went to this gothic pub and there was a huge screen putting a lot of music videos of gothic bands and artists (from the 80’s till now) and there was this video were there was a girl singing and dancing/walking through an empty house with a bunch of young people dancing. The entire video is black and white but there was something very hipnotizing about it! Can’t find it anywhere! Please help haha Cheers from Chile 🦇🖤
I've watched all four decades and I know there your preferences but to leave off switchblade symphony, black tape for blue girl, the cruxshadows, bella morte, London after midnight, collide, razed in black these bands moved goth so much forward, from lords of the new church, new model army, killing joke, it's cool to pull on the lesser known bands which you did a good job, but without those heavy hitters the scene would have died, the moment new order released blue Monday, depeche mode released policy of truth, or the cure just like heaven, I love goth and punk but I would leave the clash or Ramones out because the lead scene to popularity
Damn when I saw that Angels of Liberty was number one, I said shit which one of the album is good? basically all of them are good. RIP Voe Saint Claire you were taken from us way to soon. I hate Cancer and I wish to at least see one Show of them even if is just Voe recording himself. shot now I'm sad again.

So cool that you included Christ Vs. Warhol! I think they don't get enough appreciation.
Hey, great video I love seeing new recommendations! Can't wait for the other videos(:
check out Light Asylum, Lost Tribe and Shadow Age
I'm a bit late, but Twin Tribes is one of my personal favorites from the 2010s AND they're Texas boys like myself, but this is still a really great list! Angels of Liberty is fuckin wicked. 🤘🖤
I love Twin Tribes! I did an album review for their latest release, Ceremony, earlier this year. 😊
Would you list them in the description box for me? Thank you, I'm enjoying a few bands you mentioned that I scribbled down before you moved on. :)
5:30 Definitely!!! They always gave me hints of Deux 🖤🏴☠️💖
YES! I'VE BEEN LOOKING GOT RECOMMENDATIONS!!!
Heh...I've been pronouncing 'Novacula' like 'Dracula' :P
Hayshaker You may be right. I pronounced them suuuper American haha.
I’m a huge fan of psychedelic 😊
i stop going live and i still listing all goth bands on you tube
Ooh, I haven't heard of a lot of this. I need to look into them.
Have you ever listened to The Eden House, Fotocrime, or Red Sun Revival?
They all have some great music -- and after seeing your "Goth Genre, Subgenre, or Style?" video I'd actually be curious as to how goth you see them as being.
Yep, those are goth bands! The Eden House sometimes ventures into the Shoegaze category but overall, I’d call them goth.
The only goth band I knew from the 2010s was Terminal Gods. Great 'trad goth' (ie drum machine & guitars) band from the UK. I will have to check all these out
OMG, you're including Spanish bands! I'm Spanish! ✌️🏻
Just checked out Virgin in Veil kind of sound like if Slipknot (like the note choices and slowed down version of slipknot drumming) went goth in a sense. Just to clarify I like both Goth and metal music, I'm not a metalhead only just recently trying to get into goth. A friend of mine told me about She past away before the pandemic or during can't remember and have been listening ever since
You are one of my favorite TH-camr . ^_^
Thank you so much! 😃
@@CadaverKelly your welcome, now I have channel to visit to get away from this rainbow world .
Kaelan Mikla are great! My buddies over at Obscura Undead did an album review for them:

Besides, they are fairly young…
Just by the way I have this exact same dress your wearing in this video in my closet rn
saw She Past Away & Drab Majesty recently, great show from both bands, here are 3 bands from this era that are way better than the 10 listed here ..
What's the music playing in the background! I need it!
I agree that Merciful Nuns definitely have a nod to the Sisters of Mercy, but I feel like they sound more like Fields of the Nephilim.
Love the Christ VS Warhol tracks I found on youtube. Thanks.
I'd recommend Delphine Coma as well, modernized goff/post-punkish sounding…
Thanks for enlightening this old bloke 🏴😇❤️from Wilverley Enclosure Witches in Wessex
have you been to the festivals in Germany ?
is Totenwald on one of your lists?
Does she have a video where she dives into the quintessential (and/or underrated) female-fronted bands from each of the various micro-genres?
Have you listened to Cartilage Casanova or Vision Video?
Twin tribes and midnight darkwave are great bands
Do you like Boy Harsher, Pleasure Symbols?
Fabiana Amaral Absolutely! 😊
Did She Past Away go back in time to 2010 to release an album?
also what about rakta and diavol strain?
Check out the Bauhaus parody
A really good post punk band is the grave pleasures
Does any one know the gothic band having a song name "Vampires"?
That shirt 🖤🖤🖤🖤
My favourite 2010s band would be oul.
TRAITRS for me. Butchers Coin (2018).
I have that dress! 😄
Drab Majesty are awesome. That is all.
Lebanon Hanover are dark-wave according to Wiki
You mentioned Lebonan Hanover!!!
Then Comes Silence?
Drab majesty!!!!!
I would inspire you to listen to Bleib Modern if you don't already have done this.
There are goth bands from the 2010's?
Any Burning skies of elysium fans?
