    Hee-Haw, yessss! Amazing compilation album. The Birthday Party are always so underrated. They've always been a band that I've seen as extremely important/key in the shift of post-punk into what would become goth. Definitely a must for anyone getting into the subculture.

    • @CadaverKelly
      @CadaverKelly  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree! The Birthday Party is so close to being gothic post-punk. They really were a critical transition point from classic post-punk to goth. 😎

    Okay for proto-goth, I guess. For paving the way for goth, there is The Marble Index by Nico and Diamond Dogs by David Bowie.

      @@CadaverKelly Indeed! I wonder if you have explored Virgin Prunes, and what you think of them.

    • @CadaverKelly
      @CadaverKelly  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adem Can Vaner Of course! Great band 😊 I have Virgin Prunes on vinyl as well. I place them in the gothic post-punk category.

      @@CadaverKelly Nice! Like many, the post-punk I grew up with are The Cure, Siouxsie Sioux, and Bauhaus. But, I've been exploring Virgin Prunes, as well as Pink Turns Blue (the latter I will see in concert this September). Which album from Virgin Prunes do you recommend the most?

    • @CadaverKelly
      @CadaverKelly  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adem Can Vaner Check out “The Moon Looked Down and Laughed” by Virgin Prunes. It’s one of my favorite goth post punk albums. 😃

    (Proto-) Goth starts with Nico's lp trilogy The Marble Index (1968 th-cam.com/play/OLAK5uy_k7lD8IP7qBvfiUr8cA5eNNzOQm58c0QDw.html&feature=shared), Desertshore (1970 th-cam.com/play/OLAK5uy_kib25gkRngWH3NuRMxjZq9uRBbT7Sm9qg.html&feature=shared) and The End (1974 th-cam.com/play/PLH-9xJgN6p8yF_CvorQ4nP1aW1YCurgFh.html&feature=shared). Nico's repetetive harmonium and gloomy voice are accompanied by John Cale's sinister and menacing arrangements, being the blueprint for the likes of Siouxsie, Joy Division, Bauhaus and many more.

    I absolutely adore The Scream! It’s truly a landmark album. I also found out recently that the name and album cover was inspired by the 1968 Burt Lancaster film The Swimmer, where a man tries to “swim home” from the psycho-ward from pool to pool in suburbia. He realizes when he finally does get back home that everything is gone and all he can do is scream. Siouxsie because of the film wanted the cover to be unnerving and disturbing things underwater, since no one can hear you scream underwater…👻💧

    Another great video! TIB has got to be one of my favorite Cure albums, too. Object is probably my fave track off there.
    Question for you: what would you say the benefits are of a rock vinyl collection? My husband has a collection from when he was a house/rave DJ in the 90s, but that's totally different than a personal rock-based vinyl collection. It seems cool, but would you say it's worth someone starting a collection if they don't have one now?

    • @CadaverKelly
      @CadaverKelly  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      S V Personally, I find it to be a rewarding hobby. I like having a physical collection of music and I’m big into the novelty of retro reproduction and antiques. There’s also something so satisfying about hearing the “crackle and pop” of the needle against the vinyl. It does require space, time, and money so it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But, I find it enjoyable. 😊
