I live next to Venice and visit Venice almost everyday due to my job. In the 5 years I’ve been here it’s always been a mix of hipsters and homeless but since the pandemic it’s been over run with homeless. Like I can understand people being down on their luck, homeless and in need of food and shelter. But if your taking a shit in front of other people without even trying to hide somewhere more private to take a shit than I think your just a waste of a human.

Don't worry I just wanted to show my kids where we grew up, and we have no reason to go back again. Enjoy what California has turned in to. Some cities turn a blind eye and some stand by their laws and regulations. His theory about the corporate influence is really interesting too. The city lets a part of their prime location goes to shit so that it dies- Corporations swoop in and it gets better. The rich get protected by the police, small business does not.

Homelessness has gone mainstream. Instead of pitching a tent on the beach, we have one person renting an apt and person after person pays a bit to sleep or wash there. They also open residents' apts to homeless ppl while the resident is out. Ppl who get a hold of keys slip in and out and pass the keys to others. They also reroute all the cables to steal electricity. Since most of the legitimate residents are older ppl on fixed incomes, they are doing wo electricity to pay the bills of the criminal elements. The owners dont care, nor do the police or firemen.
We are not talking about the slums here either.

Lived my entire life in LA. Venice has never been a paradise. It is a cheap tourist trap. Never understood its allure. In the 80's and 90's it was always overrun by gangsters on the weekend. Shootings and stabbings were common. Venice Shoreline Crip was always fighting Venice 13. Homeless, street kids, drug addicts, free spirts everywhere. We use to find needles on the beach. Post 2008 recession, gentrification took off and the place was on the ups. But there has, was and always will be a grimey drug and homeless scene. Only, in the last 2-3 years the homeless/drug scene has gone off the charts.

It was the place to go when we were in college and just enjoying our life. It was in the punk era, and life was so beautiful. All those old buildings were even older and more gorgeous than what you are seeing. It's an isolating hell to be out there and interim housing isn't much better.

Most of the trash left on the beach on a daily basis is from non homeless people. The difference is the city cleans that garbage up every morning with there big green tractors. The homeless clean up their own trash and like 98% of them to an excellent job of it. They keep the dumpsters locked, so then the garbage cans overflow and nobody will come to dump them. So the homeless pile up the trash by the dumpsters. It's a ploy by the city to make the homeless look like they are all dirty. At echo park they took out all garbage cans and the homeless still kept it clean.

    • @MrFuggleGuggle

I've seen plenty of homeless leave trash, biohazards, and other waste in their own camps, and around the area - regardless of whether the dumpsters are open or not. Also - LA alone has hundreds of camps, not just Venice or even Skid Row. They will actually raid trash cans for cans/bottles to sell, and dump the rest of it on the sidewalk or the road to make it easier to find them.
But human trash tends to just make more trash, so that should never surprise anyone.

    • @slimvindawg420

@@MrFuggleGuggle I'm not saying homeless people don't litter. I'm saying they don't really have a choice. You're speaking of a very small minority of homeless that leave garbage everywhere. I'm homeless, I recycled cans and bottles, never made a mess. Everybody I know that recycles doesnt throw trash everywhere. They go to the same dumpsters every day, which they wouldn't be able to do if they left trash everywhere. You make the same problem everyone else does. You group homeless people into 1 person. If 1 hobo does something they are all guilty. Let's use that same rationale for the "homed," and you would all be in prison. When's the last time a hobo committed a mass murder?? Never, that's what homed people do. In fact the murder rate in LA right now is higher than it's been in decades, thanks to you 'homed' people. And still, 98% of the litter on streets and parks is from 'homed' people. You guys shouldn't be allowed in public anymore. You stupid 'homed' people destroy everything.

    • @MrFuggleGuggle
      @MrFuggleGuggle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Also, murders and home invasions and sexual assault from the homeless are up here in LA, so don't try gaslight me or anyone else here. People become homeless for a very good reason: Literally nobody wants anything to do with you - and that's no surprise. You take and take and take, but never give - and are responsible for most of the uptick in violent crime and petty theft we are seeing in Blue State cities.

It was really great during the late 90's and early 2000's. Then in the mid 2000's it became too trendy and commercialized and it lost some of it's bohemian vibes. Now it's a homeless paradise.

I lived in Santa Monica (next to Venice) 15 years ago and it was nuts. There wasn’t a bench on the famous promenade that didn’t have a homeless person living on it. Then there’s the tons of “middle class homeless” who live in their cars in the parking lots on the beach. SM and Venice are known for being hospitable to the homeless, but its dangerous day and night. I guess if you’re homeless Venice and Santa Monica are a lot nicer than Newark.

We stayed in a hotel on Pacific Ave towards the south-end of Venice, we'd walk to Santa Monica almost each day for the week we were there - it was lovely. Such an interesting mix of people, but never felt unsafe or unpleasant. I came to this vid after looking checking out Google street view and seeing everything shut, tents everywhere. What a shame!

Back in the 70's I went to Hawaii for three months with friends intending to camp , hike, and enjoy a long vacation. Back then you had to get a camping permit. You could only stay 3 weeks max per beach so you had to move around the island. We met so many amazing people, but nobody came there to be homeless. I think that campung permits might be a good solution for the homeless . They can only stay for a certain length of time and then have to move on. I do not lknow why they camp right in front of the shops. I hope they have lots of portable potties. The guy with the dog was actually pretty cool and on one level I agree with him.

    • @HisDudeness_69

Camping permits would be a great idea, but sadly it seems that the city is purposefully allowing the homeless to campout in front of these small businesses in hopes to keep money from flowing thru those businesses. Why else would the city not allow homeless to camp in the areas literally just outside of the small business area?

This video really does captures the essence of homeless situation in the country. OG represents working man trying to earn honest living who is directly dealing with the homeless every day. He shows us how homeless situation impacts local businesses and jobs He is non-apologetic, pragmatic and understand the issues as they really are. The white hippie guy with the dog on the other hand is too stoned to understand what's going on around him and he just does not care. He lives in an imaginary, alternate reality. He represents the clueless leftists activists/hobbyists whose grasp of the homeless situation has little connection to the actual ground realities. The rich folks from Malibu who are giving free tents to the homeless, that OG talked about, represent the privileged white liberals for whom homeless situation is nothing more than one of their cherished liberal causes to be exploited for their political ideologies and to project their own self righteousness. Unless those hinderances are resolved, the homeless situation will remain and get worse as it has over the past several years

We as humans usually sugar coat. I've been homeless. Venice was for me the safest place and just like anywhere in LA that homelessness is concentrated there are outreach groups that supply food. There is a great homeless center and you can get a nice meal and feel somewhat human eating in the cafe. If you rely on handouts though you'll be very hungry. It's a lot of work just to exist out there. You have to be at the center on time to get services and it's a brief window. Trying to survive on general relief and food stamps without housing and food prep is very difficult. It's not this bohemian party. I've got lots of stories.
