I just have to say mad props to the Discover Connection team for not using Chef Rush in the title or thumbnail. We all know it’d be so easy as creators to want to do that to get more views, but yall left that for a surprise within the video and it was so much more of a treat and stayed true to what yall were trying to accomplish. I’m definitely watching more because of this.

@@andresmanzano1138 Funnily enough, most people who cook for a living never go to school for it. They're dishwashers, then they're prep cook, then they're line cooks and up. Gordon ramsay, anthony bourdain, etc., either never went to culinary school or at least didn't start there. I hated the culinary school graduates because they had no work ethic and wanted to be the main character. First thing you learn as a dishwasher (i say from experience 13 years ago) is cheese stuck to metal pans is a nightmare, and you need to soak it immediately. The first thing you remember as a line cook is don't burn shit and then give the pan to the dishwasher. Also, clean as you go. It all comes full circle.
Anybody who ever stepped into a professional kitchen or trained to become a cook will tell you how important keeping your station clean is. It is very much expected and required in every respectable restaurant, especially when you aren't in a rush to get all the orders out - the sooner you clean up, the sooner you get to go home after the shift is over.

I never felt more at home then I did in a black church. I felt loved, accepted right away and really felt more closer to god then I ever have an any other church. I loved that you highlighted that in your video as well as showing that every community has it's amazing people. I lived in East Oakland and knew some amazing families. Keep up the good work.

I'm a 54 year old white guy living in the south. I grew up in Paramount, Long Beach and San Pedro areas and married a Mexican girl that lived next door. I am here to tell you, I have had some amazing experiences from people of all races and I've had dinner at their table. This family was genuine in allowing and trusting you guys to come into their home and i think everyone is all the better for it. Better not tell the media or the government, they want us divided.
Chef rush has likely cooked for all of the 200 most powerful and influential people on the planet, and is so humbled at 18:23 he states so genuinely that he is "honored" to be cooking in that kitchen in Compton with a random family and 2 dudes from TH-cam ...amazing guy
What a legend muscles is. Guy went through wars, lost friends, seems to have had a rough life, yet became one of the best versions of himself despite his hardships. Hat's off to that man.
Even takes a detour, between travelling and working, to get supplies to cook for a family that he has never met, for no money, and he doesn't even have time to eat the food... complete legend.

I’m a white guy and one thing I can say is that the black church is one of the most powerful and spiritual places I’ve ever been! Always welcomed and never judged! Love the black community as a whole! My grandmother was a racist and her great great grandfather was a slave master but, I left my family and their hateful ways and love people unconditional!
Being black myself I find comments like this so strange. Why not just love individual people once you’ve actually met and gotten to know them. The so called “black community” is not a single entity or monolith that you can love as a whole. Like with any “community” or demographic it’s just a bunch of individuals. Some great, some awful. How strange would it be for me to say “I’m a black guy, and I love the white community”.
After hearing Chef Rush say he faced his fears it was refreshing to see that the two fellows faced theirs. It was obvious in the video that they were afraid to knock on a door in Compton, an intimidating place. What greeted them turned out to be nothing to fear at all. A gracious family. Much like so many others across our country. We should get to know one another more often!

As someone currently living in Compton, there is a lot of good out in my city that gets swept under the idea of misconceptions brought on by the media. The city is slowly healing and I'm just glad you were able to show this. Thanks

I think the "misconceptions" are also coming from the people who live in your place. Majority of the people they talked to said it would be a bad idea to do what they intended to do. Even the pastor said so. Maybe a change in your people's narrative could help erase the misconceptions. :)
It’s not just a misconception media made, it’s one rappers made sadly. Rappers need to show their “street cred” & used Compton has the catalyst for it. Honestly sad the rappers made Compton liked this. I grew up on the border of Paramount and Compton. Yeah, I've seen some violence but, on a whole you're gonna find good people. I don't even know what to say. However, this made me miss my family and neighbors so badly. I'm crying watching this. I'm so happy you guys had this wonderful experience. And going to the church ... OMGosh, that broke me. My God Mama used to take me to a Gospel church. I miss that. I'm crying. Good job guys!
I went through a roller-coaster of emotions watching this....the two young men going to the church service, the family telling jokes, the brother's clothing business 🙏, Chef Rush's story about the push-ups (thank you for your service), the little kids asking questions, THE FOOD!, over-all what a GREAT VIDEO! This is the black family we never get to see. And I loved it so much. I can feel the warmth in that house and the fact the boys are out there grinding their clothing brand. As well as this channel doing things that no one else I’ve seen take on and big props to the chef for doing that for both the family and the channel.
Im as white as they come, and this family seems similar to my family…big, loud, and fun..and we are all about family. I think if we really get to know people who love in different places, look outwardly different than we look…we would all find that we have much more in common than we think. We all want a good life for our lived ones, we all want a safe place to call home and we all want love and acceptance. .
Chef Rush is such a genuinely good person. Has such a beautiful message to his story, and such a caring and generous heart. Absolute legend and I wish him all the success in the world.

Absolutely. Like any neighborhood you have some good and some bad. It’s all about how you interact and treat people respect gets respect back 99% of the time.
It's true. People always come to NY expecting to see crazy stuff and occasionally you do, but 99% of the people on subways and in houses are just people going to work. I met someone from TX who asked if they could ride with me in the subway because they were scared, I said sure, and then we had a good laugh at how mundane and quiet it was. Most people had their eyes closed. We're all tired after a long day at work.

Compton is full of wonderful, hardworking people. I was just at Faith Inspirational church for my cousins funeral. She brought the first Girl Scout Troop to Compton and mentored hundreds of girls. The pastor is amazing as well. Loved this video!

When I heard in this video, Chef Rush giving of his time out of his busy day, I want to say thank you for being an example of how we are to live and love others without grumbling or complaining.
I am learning alot from this new generation. How they long for community and acceptance with others. Breaking down stereotypes and barriers; learning to love your fellow neighbors. Brings peace and joy to my heart watching mixed races and ethnicities live together free.

When you go to school to become a chef, as part of your training you are also required to clean the dishes!
@@andresmanzano1138 Funnily enough, most people who cook for a living never go to school for it. They're dishwashers, then they're prep cook, then they're line cooks and up. Gordon ramsay, anthony bourdain, etc., either never went to culinary school or at least didn't start there. I hated the culinary school graduates because they had no work ethic and wanted to be the main character.
First thing you learn as a dishwasher (i say from experience 13 years ago) is cheese stuck to metal pans is a nightmare, and you need to soak it immediately. The first thing you remember as a line cook is don't burn shit and then give the pan to the dishwasher. Also, clean as you go. It all comes full circle.
Anybody who ever stepped into a professional kitchen or trained to become a cook will tell you how important keeping your station clean is. It is very much expected and required in every respectable restaurant, especially when you aren't in a rush to get all the orders out - the sooner you clean up, the sooner you get to go home after the shift is over.
That's the first sign of good chef . The first thing you do is run a sink full of scalding hot water.

I never felt more at home then I did in a black church. I felt loved, accepted right away and really felt more closer to god then I ever have an any other church. I loved that you highlighted that in your video as well as showing that every community has it's amazing people. I lived in East Oakland and knew some amazing families. Keep up the good work.

I'm a 54 year old white guy living in the south. I grew up in Paramount, Long Beach and San Pedro areas and married a Mexican girl that lived next door. I am here to tell you, I have had some amazing experiences from people of all races and I've had dinner at their table. This family was genuine in allowing and trusting you guys to come into their home and i think everyone is all the better for it. Better not tell the media or the government, they want us divided.

Being black myself I find comments like this so strange. Why not just love individual people once you’ve actually met and gotten to know them. The so called “black community” is not a single entity or monolith that you can love as a whole. Like with any “community” or demographic it’s just a bunch of individuals. Some great, some awful. How strange would it be for me to say “I’m a black guy, and I love the white community”.
After hearing Chef Rush say he faced his fears it was refreshing to see that the two fellows faced theirs. It was obvious in the video that they were afraid to knock on a door in Compton, an intimidating place. What greeted them turned out to be nothing to fear at all. A gracious family. Much like so many others across our country. We should get to know one another more often!

I grew up on the border of Paramount and Compton. Yeah, I've seen some violence but, on a whole you're gonna find good people. I don't even know what to say. However, this made me miss my family and neighbors so badly. I'm crying watching this. I'm so happy you guys had this wonderful experience. And going to the church ... OMGosh, that broke me. My God Mama used to take me to a Gospel church. I miss that. I'm crying. Good job guys!

This is the black family we never get to see. And I loved it so much. I can feel the warmth in that house and the fact the boys are out there grinding their clothing brand. I think if we really get to know people who love in different places, look outwardly different than we look…we would all find that we have much more in common than we think. It's true. People always come to NY expecting to see crazy stuff and occasionally you do, but 99% of the people on subways and in houses are just people going to work. I met someone from TX who asked if they could ride with me in the subway because they were scared, I said sure, and then we had a good laugh at how mundane and quiet it was. Most people had their eyes closed. We're all tired after a long day at work.

Compton is full of wonderful, hardworking people. I was just at Faith Inspirational church for my cousins funeral. She brought the first Girl Scout Troop to Compton and mentored hundreds of girls. The pastor is amazing as well. Loved this video!

When I heard in this video, Chef Rush giving of his time out of his busy day, I want to say thank you for being an example of how we are to live and love others without grumbling or complaining.
I am learning alot from this new generation. How they long for community and acceptance with others. Breaking down stereotypes and barriers; learning to love your fellow neighbors. Brings peace and joy to my heart watching mixed races and ethnicities live together free.
