I am born and raised in Uganda. Wildly travelled and moved to LA 2021. Been here just over 2 years. My honest opinion is that this place is over hyped,too expensive,high crime rate.Have decided to leave and go back to Uganda where I wish to live instead of merely existing in the USA. Thank you for sharing the truth. They always market the “good”side of America and show Africa as “bad”.
Africans need to control their narrative better and improve countries. This part of LA does not represent the entire state of California. But there are counties in African where very large portions suffer from poverty.
Do not be deceived by what you see in Africa, we are not as homeless and poor as they show you online, place to sleep, meal everyday, clothes to wear, Africa is blessed but if you have not been you wouldn't know

It's good you let everyone know that all that glitters are not gold. The same soberness I feel for the homeless people in LA after watching this video was exactly what I felt sometimes in 2008 when I traveled to China: I never believe that I could see poor and homeless people there in Guangzhou with all the glamour and glory of the city; and with all the riches there. Traveling is the greatest education anyone can have. Thank you Tayo!

I was born and raised in L.A. (I'm in my 60's now). I have visited 77 Countries and lived in 4 of those for more than a year each. As an "American of primarily African ancestry", America in general, and Southern California in particular are like a "luxury Brand" (Think Apple or Tesla, or Bottega). The _Only_ reason people buy (almost always getting into deep debt to do so) them is to impress their equally shallow and materialistic friends. Otherwise, a "Brand" offers no real happiness nor contentment. I can see this now as I abandoned the insane asylum that is America for Africa and SE Asia 20 years ago, where I found _True_ happiness and contentment.. I wish I would have left sooner.

First America is not big. You can fit over 3x United States, including Alaska inside Africa with plenty of room left. Flights takes long From New Jersey to LA because of the route structure. Newark NJ to LA is 2, 800 miles. Lagos to Johannesburg is about 4,200 miles. That said homelessness, poverty- people who works 6days/week but Can't afford food...relies on Food banks or charity organizations in Western countries are worst than most poor Countries but their hypocrite media won't show that. Just about a month ago I was in Canada for a visit and it was in the news that an industrial middle class town called Hamilton with population of Five hundred and seventy thousand (570, 000) have more than two thousand people sleep outside (homeless) 360 days a year but you won't hear that in news in Africa. In Africa, my country Ghana "most people" who sleeps outside are mentally challenged people and not a full time worker and also in our rural areas you hardly see homelessness though their houses aren't modern no one sleeps outside at night and gets soaked when it rains

The government has really made things difficult for us, everyone needs more than their salary to be financially stable, since I consistently make $36,000 in profits from cryptocurrency investment every 7 business days, I am no longer dependent on government salaries to survive. .

I visit Atlanta and the experience very shocking, the homelessness in America is very sad. Africa blessed, we are rich but we don't see...we pay for everything in cash, 99% og Africans have a home. This is very insightful🎉

500 million people do not have access to clean, safe water in Africa…
Most Africans live off of one meal a day, or zero. Many of the homes cannot be called homes as they are infested with rats, and of pest. Not safe for child and babies. In America free Healthcare, Meals and Shelter are guarantee to all children. What has brought controversy is when US parents cannot keep things together and provider shelter, food and education for a child The child is removed and place in foster child to be provided for until the age of 18, or finish college that is paid for by the state.
Before that time the parent has first rights to claim the child back is conditions are met. Like the rest of the world, drugs are destructive.
The more l watch such videos l realised we are blessed to live in Africa! Less stressful, good people, good food, weather, air l love it here! Thanks for sharing Tayo ❤

I was born & raised in London UK. I visited LA for the first time 2 years ago just when the city was slowly starting to come out of the COVID 19 lockdowns. I was just as shocked as you were Tayo, America has one of the most powerful marketing machines in the world. There are parts of Los Angeles that looked more impoverished than any major city in Western Europe. The homeless epidemic is out of control over there and the homeless have pretty much taken over the streets and sidewalks of Downtown Los Angeles. What's even more disheartening is that a overwhelming number of them are battling drug addiction and it only seems to be getting worse. New York City also had a huge homeless problem. Many of them lived on the Subway (I noticed this with Los Angeles also).
While I appreciate the beautiful landscape while driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, the rocky Malibu beaches and the lovely Californian sun at the heigh of February. That other side full of poverty, crime and drug addiction left a mental scar in my mind whenever I think of this city.

Just like Canada…. This is why the scheme to get in is really easy for some people…the thing is they start to make people sick in the west from birth with sugar and drugs. As an American I can say this. And the school system the social aspect is trash. Homeschool or be really involved in your kids when you come to the west unless they will suffer and end up like the drug addicted indigenous it’s well

I’m American and I’ve never …..NEVER been interested in traveling to Los Angeles. I’ve never seen the hype about it period…. Smh……I have however been to Ghana 🇬🇭 and Kenya 🇰🇪 total 7 times and absolutely love everything about it ❤! Can’t wait to go back again next year God willing 🙏🏿

What Africa must learn from America is Marketing...A visit to some of these cities and one can just be purely underwhelmed by many of these hyped places in the media. There's really power in story telling, Like Tayo said. If the narrative on Africa will change, we will have to change it through our stories, no one else will.

My first time visiting America, I stayed in LA and I was shocked at the number of homeless people I saw. This was my first time leaving Africa and this was a shock to me as we tend to have this perfect view of America and Western Europe. I saw more homeless people than I'd ever seen in my country Cameroon. And it wasn't about my neighborhood though, I stayed at a 4 star hotel in Downtown LA and around me was made up of 4/5 Star hotels. So seeing that many homeless people in such an area was a shock to me. One day I needed a phone repair and google maps took me to this place a little bit out of Downtown. Me wey think say I be correct area boy, I was shaking there 😂. I'm glad this was the first place I visited though. This gave me a somewhat balanced view of the world. Nice video btw.
Actually urban camping & slumming it as a hippy are the latest trends in the US for the Americans privledged enough to get vacation leave there.

I visited there from Canada in December and I witnessed the same. The place is insanely expensive and the city is kinda intense.. one bad trip like a lost job or sickness that keeps you away from work or depression that got you hooked on drugs and you out on the road . Could happen to the best of us.

As a Los Angeles native, I am glad you highlighted the homeless population and housing crisis. When I traveled to Nigeria, the people I met did not believe me when I told them living here is not easy. It was the same story when speaking with Ghanaians. They think people here are homeless or jobless because they are lazy and don't want to work.

I emigrated here to the US 41 yrs ago from Jamaica. As a child that was my mindset that these American people are lazy, reliant on the system etc. Over the years I've witnessed folk emigrate here and given opportunities the natives(people who been here for generations from african or native descent) get passed on. Once you understand the history, it give you insight on disparities that still exists presently.
I would never chose any other option in the U.S, LA is home to us, when you live here you learn how to get things fit into yo budget. Its super expensive to live here but so are the opportunities available to change yo life if you handle yo money well. After the hustle, you return home(Africa) to enjoy the harvest. If possible, each person needs a chance to try it for atleast 4-10 yrs, harvest whatever they can, and go back home, problems begin, when you want to stay forever, the system eats u up

I really love what you say in this video. You point out how the homelessness in LA in not like anywhere in Africa. This needs to be told. The American people need to hear this. It’s expensive to live in the US where there are jobs. We need to do better about taking care of our people.

I'm curious to know what they say in Africa about the United States. The only images we see of Africa are view of poverty and war. I was really excited when all of the content came our way during the pandemic. So many videos coming out of Africa and from young Africans on Instagram that I became really hopeful. I found Tayo during this time. on TH-cam. We always here of Africa as Third World, but really thinking we in America are Third World. Most of us don't really own much and are always working. I work for myself so I can control it a bit more but we live to work verse work to live. 🤔

It's always shocked me hearing friends of mine from India, Germany, etc. glorifying Los Angeles as a paradise, meanwhile people like me who've lived here their whole life see it as the gang capital of our country, rapid crime, loaded with poverty, corrupt police, horrible traffic, etc.
It's because of the media and hollywood.Indians like USA mostly because of the modern lifestyle.

FYI, regarding the Mexican population in LA, California was a part of Mexico up until about 120years ago when the US seized California, New Mexico, Arizona etc from Mexico in a war. So many of the Mexican descended people in California didn't cross the border, the border crossed them.
It was actually 176 years ago. Texas joined the US in the mid 19th century after gaining independence from Mexico. There were barely any Mexicans in that region. They never truly owned it. It was just based on a Spanish claim. Very few of the Mexicans are descended from the people who were there before conquest. Most Mexicans came long after the Mexican America of 1848.
All places have good and bad. My husband is native of a country in Africa. I have usually visited and enjoyed the differences. I have seen good and bad. And also, I have also seen good and bad here in America. However, i will say, i see more times than not more people wanting to leave their African country because of lack of opportunities available for sustaining themselves. I have asked many: if everyone leaves Africa, how will more cultivation occur? If no one will remain home and take care and all want to abandon ship, who will build a better desired society?
Another thing is that many people come to America and make money and accumulate it, invest it, and save it to then return to their own countries as big men and women and to build the mansions that in America they could never afford to build for the same amount of money. So it is definitely not good to throw firey torches at the storehouse that is aiding you in feeding your family. It is not good to start to rise in statue and then spit on the hand that nourished you. Who actually does that? America has many faults just like all the other places around the world. However, if America closed it's borders and allowed no people from other countries to access opportunities here i am sure many would hurt from such a thing.

Tato was just showing us the truth about America because America always sells the so called American dream. America is one of the most racist countries in the world. Most of the people who are homeless in that video are black and one of the major contributors are corporate racism. It is a known fact that most blacks do not rise up the corporate ladder because of corporate racism , all the high paying sophisticated jobs are reserved for whites. At the same time blacks are quickly fired for the smallest of things. Blacks are exposed to abject poverty and they are subjected to public schools where the government does not even entertain their academic needs, this leads to learners dropping out of school and dealing drugs just survive or make ends meet. The American system is designed to cripple or disadvantage non-whites, it is a system that only favour whites. White supremacy is alive and well in America and this video did justice to that...
You may not know but, this is kind of like a revenge video because a lot of the foreigners who go to do TH-cam videos in Africa for some reason concentrate on the slums and the bad areas so much some folks feel that's all that exist there. So, it's kind of a payback video 😊

I understand that this is how he makes his money. However, I think he could use more tact. Just like the individuals who go over to the continent of Africa and highlight the not so fond aspects (poverty, yahoo, etcetera and so forth.....they and he are using the same tactless approach. While they use it to swindle people out of money for charities, this guy is using it for views.)
There are better ways.
Each person should find a way to take pride in one's own land without having to strikeout at others to do so.
Am happy for people taking efforts to love their land. But again, I love mine as well, so let's find a way to build one another up rather than tearing each other down. Seriously!
A very high percentage of the homelessness issue we have here in U.S is caused by Drug & Alcohol addictions, Mental Illness unfortunately

I am living in Ghana now since 1st October and I can truly say that Ghanaians are the friendliest people I ever meet. they are not only true their nature, but very hard working as well. I am retired from my working life in the U.S.A. and I want to live here for the rest of my life, but need to earn extra income as a content creator on UTube maybe I take your course. Africans are more family based in their values which keeps people from being homeless, especially they way they honor the ederly here they have more respect to those who came before them. If the ederly and the young were to hang out together the next generation would be better off in the long run. Yes, every place has it good points and bad, but Africa is far more advance in how it treats it people, even before colonialism.
I do agree that respect for our elders is very important. But I prefer the US.

Thank you for showing Africans some of this reality . Every country we visit here, people question why we actually moved out. So many seem to have this unrealistic, dreamy land view of the States.

I couldn't believe my eyes. Now 🇬🇧 is following in the US 💰 obsessed footsteps and we're starting to see the same things: growing rates of homelessness, people doing multiple jobs just to survive, low quality everything, ill health, obesity and everyone medicated to their eyeballs. Such progress.

OMG yes, was in Sacramento 2 years ago for work and it was heart breaking, homeless folks with tents set up in the median of the highway. So sad. Also, just walking around the area, smelled like pee and pot. Nasty.....

Interesting to see this and read the comments… LA is my hometown - I grew up there, graduated from university there and began my career there… But I left to live in other places, have other adventures and see other parts of the world. I lived in the mountains of Oregon… I lived and worked in Seattle when/where ‘grunge’ was born… I lived in NYC for a while… I lived on Martha’s Vineyard for over a decade - Everything changes, you are only passing through - you can live in a place for decades and not actually KNOW it because you only know your opinions about it… Yes LA is large and spread out, NYC is intense and compact (still spread out into surrounding areas - all the way into CT and NJ) - BUT where I live NOW is more crowded, more intense, more chaotic, more exciting, more everything, than LA & NYC combined - I now live in a metropolitan area with over THIRTY MILLION PPL & freakin’ unbelievable traffic 24/7/365 - (and air pollution that’s off the charts!) Now I live in Jakarta - in the tropics, in SE Asia.

It is one of the worst in the country. SF is really bad as well. Yes, there are lots of cities that have a lot of homeless country wide, but Cali has a high number of homeless compared to other states and cities.
LA and California in general has the worst number of homelessness in the US. The homeless population across the country receive certain benefits in Los Angeles, which explains why many reside there. Also the weather is consistently warm there compared to most parts of the US. So sleeping outside is never a problem.

I live in the San Fernando Valley but it’s still considered LA. I avoid going to downtown LA and Venice and Santa Monica as much as I can. It is very expensive and hectic and so full of homeless people. Unfortunately, the homeless people are making there way to the valley and taking over.

I am Afro American. According to Ancestry DNA 65% West African (mostly Nigerian) 35% European. I was born in northern Cali (Berkeley), and raised in southern Cali (Compton/LA County). Yes LA does have a major homeless, drug and crime problem. I pray to one day see this all change!... On another note, I will be traveling to Nigeria in April soooooo..... I hope that Nigeria is everything I hoped it would be. I know that we all live in our tiny little bubbles, but I will try and remain opened minded about the people, places and things I experience in Nigeria. I have visited Kenya (2023), and I was shocked by the living conditions of many people living in the slums, and the narrow dirt roads. I may not have noticed homeless people living on the streets but the living conditions in some parts of Nairobi were not much better than the living standards of our homeless population in LA.
I think that the real problem in LA is mental illness and the drug epidemic!! The homeless people here don't want to get clean and sober. They rather live on the streets to avoid paying taxes, employment, rent, and other costly expenses. They also rather use their social security, disability, and other government resources to buy and sell drugs on skid row. Basically, people living on skid row choose to live in such conditions. How do I know? Well let's just say that in college I did a sociological field experiment where I drove down to skid row and interviewed many many homeless people. The one thing they all had in common was that they all wanted to be there. All summed up, the US offers assistance to the homeless and drug addicts, but unfortunately these people reject the help.

Nah u got a few things wrong. The reason whites got the luxury is because their a majority. A lot of people other than whites are rich in the US. There’s a lot of blacks and middle Eastern rich people in my city compared to the whites. Now yes US is expensive af depending where u live but if you live in a nice country side it will be more cheaper than a city area but you need a car and a getting a decent job is hard in the countryside :/

Regarding Hollywood Boulevard, I’ve visited there twice. First in 2012 and second in 2022. Despite there being more housing the second time, the homelessness was worse. This was following the pandemic too (in the “endemic” phase) and tourism everywhere had suffered.
But tourism never made a full recovery in Hollywood. The worst part is I took the subway there, the Red Line, which is infamous for homelessness, crime, mental illness. So forget people taking transit when it’s like that. Homelessness is everywhere, despite any efforts to up the housing supply. But with their mild climate and civilization aplenty, I can see why the homeless cluster there. It’s unfortunate but true. Hollywood in real life left a bad taste in my mouth as a neighborhood struggling with homelessness and a housing shortage, which leaves a whole slew of problems in its wake.
It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful climate and natural environment, but the housing shortage and excessive sprawl and traffic are a start of problems, yet the government never has any cost effective solutions. Instead there’s more red tape blocking solutions (such as actually having enough housing).
It just seemed all the existing problems worsened in ten years. And l remote work and obscene gas prices didn’t help traffic either.

It exists everywhere. I've seen it in Japan for the past 35 years, and also in "third world countries". I have had friends tell me that in Mongolia there are or where children living in the sewers in UB.
I'm African, been living here in the US for an entire one third of my life. I can tell you for a fact that Americans are the most pretentious people on the face of this earth. Right now as we speak, the United States is on the verge of collapse. To anyone that's not from here, do not be fooled by anything you see on tv, movies, magazines, blogs or videos. The real truth is on the streets, in homes, neighborhoods, work places etc. Every city from Boston to San Francisco has a homelessness problem, poverty, racism, corruption, police brutality, hatred of blacks etc. I repeat HATRED OF BLACKS.

From 2025 Africa is going to be the most peaceful, prosperous, healthiest and wealthiest place to live on earth. There is nothing we lack or need to change about Africa. Tayo nice tour of Los Angeles, I like the Griffith Museum, Santa Monica Beach, and Venice Beach. I like seeing the homeless problem in LA in the video. San Francisco also has a big homeless problem. The US media only show you the good side of America, they dont show the bad side like crime, drug use, homelessness, low wages, and expensive life. But when the US media go to Haiti and Africa they mostly show you the bad side like poor people and corrupt politicians.

I guess all the homeless people I've seen in Lagos during my 4 visits since 2018 under the Third Mainland Bridge & on the beach by Karumo Waters next to The Protea Hotel by Marriott was just a figment of my imagination...There are an estimated 300,000 homeless people in Lagos...Unfortunately homelessness is wahala in every country in the World and it'll keep getting worse as the Rich get richer & the poor get poorer

My cousin and I first visited LA back in 2016 and we were shocked with the amount of homeless and begging... We started telling people they need to move to Memphis if they were struggling that bad.. apartments were still $700 then lol
Memphis has a 15:40 very high crime. I believe the crime rate in Memphis, TN is higher than New York City, NY.

Los Angeles has a high level of homelessness largely because of the weather! Especially during the winter months.. tons of people migrate towards LA cos no matter what.. our winter/fall weather is still better that most of America. Secondly, we do not have subways cos LA is prone to earthquakes and that would be a complete disaster! Great Video as always! @@TayoAinaFilms They have a little short subway that doesn't take you most places but it is incredibly expensive to build subway in L.A. compared to New York because they have to be built earthquake proof. Not to mention Everything in L.A. is spread out over a larger area so it would require a lot more miles of track.
