When you listen to such an eloquent and brilliant man , who is able to make a long and clear demonstration , you are just wondering what happened to the current political class - they are so mediocre …
If you remember even the Democrats at the time, many in the south were flat out racist, so this nonsense of Kennedy dragging his feet on Civil Rights isn't justified.
It's so cool to see human beings in politics and the media. There aren't many actualized humans left in America, so it's great to have these old videos to remind us of how it used to be when things were correct.
This was the last, sit down and filmed interview, of JFK'S life. 53 year's in September. For those of US, who were alive, seeing how far Civility has Declined, is Extremely Sad. One of our least Articulate President's, said the Greatest Quote. President Ford, " Let us Disagree, without being Disagreeable ". AMEN !
Great man, very impressive. What strikes me is he didn't offer simple solutions to these complex problems. That's a real difference from today. Great accent; "cawt awda"!
His intelligence his maturity and his leadership abilities made John F.Kennedy one of my favorite Presidents. Sure he had his flaws as does every human being but Kennedy carried himself with such dignity and humility that is no longer seen these days especially in the time of Trump. There will never be another man or President like Kennedy.
I always find it funny how the Repiblicunts always try to claim Kennedy as their own in their own dellusional mindset. Kennedy was progressive as hell in the 1960s so much that they initially thought a right wing extremist shot him in Dallas. He was closer to Obama than anything and those who say he resembles Trump's policies can go lube themselves, grab a cucumber and fuck themselves :)
You may not catch this since there's no profanity but...I heard Kennedy mention a tax cut to spur econ growth, staying the course to blunt communism and Red Chinese hegemony and reference to the Repubs as proud members of the party of Lincoln. Ain't no Demo rats talking like that anymore. Finally, the Obama comparison is laughably absurd.
musicalmelodies Really? Do Democrat still believe in lower taxes for everyone like Kennedy? Did Kennedy take over 1/6th of the economy by passing national healthcare? That’s an insult to even put Obama in the same class as Kennedy. If you read; JFK never trusted progressives.
James for Safe Streets Umm JFK tax cuts actually cut the top marginal rate for the rich and cut the capital gains tax as well! So what exactly is different from GOP tax cuts? because the idea actually was adopted from JFK since many Republicans was against his tax cuts in the 60s.
Yes, and we still don’t know all of the facts that have been locked away from the public. This was the very first and obvious corruption of the government to keep all of the facts available to the American people. A great big coverup to protect the ones involved by a shadow government. We will probably never know everything and who was involved. Shameful
As a non-political teen back in the 60-63 era, I didn't think much of JFK. Watching him in interviews now, being able to answer a question directly with ease, no hemming and hawing and hesitation, and with knowledge and lack of fear of expressing his opinion, my impression of him has risen 10 fold. Talking of automation and loss of coal as a fuel and steel. Sounds like we are standing still. How is it that 55 years later our government has not done ONE iota of coming up with industries in the hard hit Appalachias to help ease the unemployment? They just allow companies to ship their industries out of country.
Yes, but retraining is VERY hard because a coal miner in those days with perhaps grade 8 is not going to retrain into say technology. Many folks do NOT want to move away from their families and places of their comfort. Yes, in the past many in the US did so, but it was under duress mostly not choice. The only way forward I see is the education of the young and this has to be supported with decent schools, BUT more importantly support around the dinner table where the family's values are laid bare everyday. If a youngster is going to move away, I expect most will need encouragement from their family members. It is hard leaving all you know for something unknown. Many can't do it ... in many ways including myself.
2023 we need to retrain those who wish. We need to keep some coal As a back up . Try to make it cleaner. Make oil cleaner. Get more hydroelectric plants for electric. Make a balance. 2023
Perhaps it doesn't help that the majority of people in Appalachia and similar places tend to express, in their voting, a preference for small government, not intervening in the economy
@@urbangorilla33Exactly. Using tax dollars to provide social safety nets and jobs training for the poor is “socialism,” after all. 🙄 And federal regulation of corporations? They’ve been taught to think that’s one of the seven signs of the apocalypse.
As a historian, it is marvelous to see Kennedy in the very act of hedging his policy in Vietnam. On the one hand he acknowledges that the South Vietnamese government is not going to win the war unless it had popular support. On the other he says we have to stay and continue to support South Vietnam. You can cherry pick Kennedy to prove lots of points. The fact is he was a very good politician, keeping doors open, never shutting them. He was always giving himself and the US, an exit to use if needed. His tact when responding the question about de Gaulle was another very good example class-A politics in action. And I do think that Cronkite was right in his thinking that Kennedy sending Lodge to Vietnam was a calculated attempt to sideline a potential political rival. We know that Kennedy was hoping to face Goldwater. According to Jackie, who was interviewed in the spring of 64', Kennedy considered Senator Romney the biggest threat. In the very end of this tape, as the President gets up out of the chair, it is very evident that he has a back brace. He has to stand fairly robot-like compared to Cronkite when he gets up.
What a sad thing to now know he only had a little time left. I actually get choked up watching this. And I don't usually feel like that about anything.
We have no real journalists today. And we have no real leaders today. Kennedy was before my time, but the excitement and hope for achievement that I perceive from his speeches Re gone forever.
President Kennedy was an intelligent person. Could you imagine your mind continuously working in that manner. To much crap for these people to have to deal with these days , to much inhaling going on .
the book "vietnam,an epic tragedy",by hastings, mentions this very interview, and it is fascinating to be able to look it up nowadays and see it knowing what we now know about vietnam, unbelievable
Jack-Jack Kennedy was a strict constitutionalist regardless to what some like to fantasize about him. Neither he nor his brother Bobby-boy was Communists, Marxists nor may what ever little fantasy that be swirling about in reference to both of those men. The more I hear the archived interviews of Jack-Jack are the more I grow in respect for his ideas and mentality.
What in God's name has happened to the once GREAT Democratic Party, Kennedy is brilliant and knows what makes this Country work, such a tragedy we lost him!
What happened to the Democratic Party, in my humble opinion, is that the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and his brother Senator Robert F. Kennedy drove the Party to the "left". Barry Hussein Obama drove it into Marxist territory. Obama is also an anti law enforcement race hustler who had "Black Lives Matter", who are Marxists, over to the White House and praised their community organizing! Obama also had the "Reverend Al Sharpton" over to the White House countless times. Barry Obama once said "change is coming to America"! Man, was he ever right! The feminization of America has hurt the Democratic Party who now have, in their ranks, unpatriotic, reckless, unstable emotional wrecks such as Speaker Pelosi, The Squad - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, Omar and Pressley which have destroyed political discourse in America.
It surrendered to Ronald Reagan and the far-right, and it's only been Neoliberal, Corporatist sellouts like Bill Clinton and Obama. JFK would be a Marxist by the standards of today's TH-cam commenters.
I love the fact that John F Kennedy is America first. He said de Gaulle was looking after the French interest, and he was looking at America's interest. Does that sound like someone else we know. Love it
Unlike today’s interviewers, Cronkite did not challenge Kennedy’s responses with alternative viewpoints, cite polls, economic figures. Cronkite doesn’t even hold notes. Kennedy was also allowed to answer questions uninterrupted. Kennedy’s death was followed by large increase of American troops in Vietnam Conflict by Lyndon Johnson, which according to this interview, Kennedy strongly opposed.
Not to mention.. the future taxing of the oil refineries which is where Kennedy saw injustice that they go free just because they are so powerful and yet he signed his death sentence

James Batchelor people handle there greif in all sorts of different ways. Some are better at pretending there not in pain then others. Doesn't mean he's not grieving just cause he isn't in tears.
JFK was very compartmentalized. He didn't show is feelings on his sleeve. From what I've read, he cried and was very much crushed by the death of their infant. He was president. He had to go on.
jon122569 He collapsed over Patrick’s coffin. It crushed him. But, I love that you use the word “compartmentalized.” That’s exactly what it was. No president in history was as good at putting his life in different boxes than he was. Presidency in one, marriage and family in one, health issues and possible opioid addiction one, mistresses in one, and all the rest. That, to me, is what makes Kennedy so great. He juggles all these balls in the air fairly successfully and still manages to do a pretty damn good job leading our country. Hell of a man. Helluva president.
I agree completely-the pain he was in would have prevented most men from ever becoming President. He might have been a playboy and all,but he had a vast intellect, great curiosity, and sincerely had the country's best interests in his decisions.
Not without his flaws but honestly think if it weren't for him and his rapport with Eisenhower (who famously openly criticized Nixon), the armchair analyst in me thinks the Cuban missile crisis may have gone differently.
I think we have gone backwards to a dark age almost today, just listen how both men conduct themselves in the interview, he asks the questions calmly and respectfully and waits for his answers. Kennedy definitely had faults like any man, but he was better than anyone we have today.
His assassination took the wind out of our sails. We were flying high on the wings of hope for a brighter future. Then MLK Jr., RFK, all defenders of freedom and human rights. The seventies we're a darker time. May the LIGHT break through the darkness once again with more permanent results!
Quote by PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY ~ "We don't have troops en masse [In Vietnam] who are dying by the thousands." Man, did that change under President Lyndon Baines Johnson, Kennedy's successor!
Observing the ease with which these two gentlemen spoke, and the respect Cronkite had for JFK, makes you realize how devastated Walter was when he announced the news that Kennedy had passed. The roughest day of his life.

They ought to make it easy to find online: the more we give people the best-quality reproductions of the past, the more likely they will be to spend time partaking of those recordings, realizing how much similarity there is between the past and the present, and finding that 'old' information can be so valuable for solving problems of the present and the future.
When you listen to such an eloquent and brilliant man , who is able to make a long and clear demonstration , you are just wondering what happened to the current political class - they are so mediocre …
Walter was the best ever, and his kind are sorely missed in today's world of television journalists.
David Gaul cia
he was well versed in the issues of the day
We lost so much when John Kennedy was taken from us.
Zakk Gardner
No, not really-only justice, truth,Inspiration belief in your country,,accountability, respect as a nation, other than that I can't think of anything.
hahahaha the dude was a legislative failure, he hardly got anything done...he got to office thru his father dirty political tactics
If you remember even the Democrats at the time, many in the south were flat out racist, so this nonsense of Kennedy dragging his feet on Civil Rights isn't justified.
2000beetlepiss..hahaha..you dumbfuck..Trumps pissing in your ass
It's so cool to see human beings in politics and the media. There aren't many actualized humans left in America, so it's great to have these old videos to remind us of how it used to be when things were correct.
Walter Cronkite was one hell of a journalist. He was beloved by most.
He was a CIA Communist
A master at work! Brilliant man...
AMEN !
Finished working, I need your address and phone number to send the money
He was interviewed for tv again a week later.
@@josephgeorge7385 😃😃😃
I bet you voted for biden
@@willard2729didn't everyone? He is the most popular President of all time. 81 million votes don't you forget. No President can touch him
Great man, very impressive. What strikes me is he didn't offer simple solutions to these complex problems. That's a real difference from today.
Great accent; "cawt awda"!
He offered no solutions
Good man the way he positively comments on the civil rights March in wash DC the week before.
David Netterwald Tulsi Gabbard is trying to change that. Keep the faith!
I still say he was a good President
How wonderful it is that 50 years later, we can see and hear President Kennedy speak.... AWESOME
11 weeks left. What a devastating tragedy. The Republic has yet to recover from it.
Yes, and we still don’t know all of the facts that have been locked away from the public. This was the very first and obvious corruption of the government to keep all of the facts available to the American people. A great big coverup to protect the ones involved by a shadow government. We will probably never know everything and who was involved. Shameful
What a Man . He is a Legend now there will never be another JFK .
Miss this man! He was taken from us way too soon!
We the whole world lossed a very great man, intelligent compassionate, gode man. Still griveng him a lot.😢🙏🙏🙏♥️
We need to keep some coal
As a back up . Try to make it cleaner. Make oil cleaner. Get more hydroelectric plants for electric. Make a balance. 2023
🌹🙏🌹
Perhaps it doesn't help that the majority of people in Appalachia and similar places tend to express, in their voting, a preference for small government, not intervening in the economy
@@urbangorilla33Exactly. Using tax dollars to provide social safety nets and jobs training for the poor is “socialism,” after all. 🙄 And federal regulation of corporations? They’ve been taught to think that’s one of the seven signs of the apocalypse.
8/3/23-A good many people could learn some truths from this interview as it still has meanings we in the 21st century still struggle with. ✌️❤️⚡️
I went to Dealey plaza and I felt pretty emotional that I was there where it happened, but 60 years later....
And this ladies and gentlemen, shows clearly in comparison, just how low we have fallen,
Once upon a time when people actually had good etiquette.
Wow its quite strange hearing him talk about what would happen in 1964. It was a year he didnt get to see
We have no real journalists today.
And we have no real leaders today.
Kennedy was before my time, but the excitement and hope for achievement that I perceive from his speeches Re gone forever.
Chilling when Walter asked JFK asked about 1964.

Love that voice and the man 💟
Thank you
President Kennedy was an intelligent person. Could you imagine your mind continuously working in that manner. To much crap for these people to have to deal with these days , to much inhaling going on .
A true moment in time.
A joy to listen to JFK. So articulate and smart. The real deal.
the book "vietnam,an epic tragedy",by hastings, mentions this very interview, and it is fascinating to be able to look it up nowadays and see it knowing what we now know about vietnam, unbelievable
God, I loved him, I loved him, I love him, I still love him
Very wise and talented man for his time.
For this time, what would you do with Putin 🤨
Jack-Jack Kennedy was a strict constitutionalist regardless to what some like to fantasize about him. Neither he nor his brother Bobby-boy was Communists, Marxists nor may what ever little fantasy that be swirling about in reference to both of those men. The more I hear the archived interviews of Jack-Jack are the more I grow in respect for his ideas and mentality.
He be considered a Republican today. The Democrats today are communist/socialist.
so handsome so young
@raulmacias1311 obama's . Mentor was Frank Marshall Davis a member of The Communist Party of America
.Obama's father was a Commie!
Sold out to Wall Street donor class and left behind the blue class. Only left appearing on social issues.
The democrat party was taken over by communists in the late 1960's. Very sad
Worth sharing
"Like Caesar, he is surrounded by enemies and something's underway, but it has no face. Yet everybody in the loop knows..."
I'm writing an essay on this man and i've titled it, JFK : American Caeser.
These were the days when the media and politicians respected each other.
All too many don't deserve any respect
So glad we have these tapes of JFK.
He was highly an intellect and intelligent. His being was above real politik
Impressive. Thank you
And then he was gone in a matter of minutes... And the world stood still.
Miss each man dearly!
I love the fact that John F Kennedy is America first. He said de Gaulle was looking after the French interest, and he was looking at America's interest. Does that sound like someone else we know. Love it
Insightful commentary on the Economy and his reelection bid. No politician today answers
LBJ was a horrible man. JFK was stolen from us
My dad wrote a letter to This President JFK during the Cuban Missile Crisis To Tell The President What A Courageous Man He Thought That He Was For Standing So Strong For America's Freedom..And Not Backing Down..And For The Impeccable leadership Of This Country That He Was Displaying...A Month Later My Dad Recieved A Hand Written Letter Back From President JFK Thanking My Dad For His Words And His Respect For The Country..
I'm surprised how he doesn't seem depressed, because just a month before this interview was filmed, his newborn son died.
I can’t imagine Jackie’s grief at that time 😢😢😢
Here here Steve. Civility, thoughtfulness, measured responses.
Such a great man. So very brave. It was only recently I read of all his many health problems. No one knew. God bless JFK. ❤
Thank you.

Interesting also is both these men were only 46 years old at the time of this interview.

Not without his flaws but honestly think if it weren't for him and his rapport with Eisenhower (who famously openly criticized Nixon), the armchair analyst in me thinks the Cuban missile crisis may have gone differently.
A good training video for all president elects.. ❤
I think we have gone backwards to a dark age almost today, just listen how both men conduct themselves in the interview, he asks the questions calmly and respectfully and waits for his answers. Kennedy definitely had faults like any man, but he was better than anyone we have today.
We are facing these same problems in 2023 ❤🙏🇦🇺
His assassination took the wind out of our sails. We were flying high on the wings of hope for a brighter future. Then MLK Jr., RFK, all defenders of freedom and human rights. The seventies we're a darker time. May the LIGHT break through the darkness once again with more permanent results!

This is what a real President looks like!

What did JFK do to prevent the situation?

Lyndon Johnson, the Peace Candidate of 1964 ...
Observing the ease with which these two gentlemen spoke, and the respect Cronkite had for JFK, makes you realize how devastated Walter was when he announced the news that Kennedy had passed. The roughest day of his life.
Crazy that this was two months before the assassination
