    Through intense back pain, extreme Texas heat, and high pressure expectations, John F. Kennedy stands there and delivers the most intelligent, informed, and entertaining speech that no one could imagine on their own, with a wealth of knowledge that exceeds any standard level of familiarity with history, budget structure, executive policy, and mechanical engineering. No other President since has come even close to this level of sophistication in national leadership, and no one likely ever will.

A war hero who served his country and saved the lives of some of his men, a man who, during the height of the Cold War deescalated tensions (although the bay of pigs attack was pretty bad), someone who pushed civil rights forward. Pushed for space technology which has many benefits for common people. Ultimately brought the people of the US together which we take for granted as today our presidents now make the country very divided.

In his short presidency none of his proposed bills actually became acts. All his important bills like civil rights , medicare , tax cuts passed after his death by lyndon johnson. People give him credit in cuban missile crisis but it is a true fact that the crisis was caused by jfk only. He was not sure what to do about vietnam , many people predict that he was waiting for a second term to call back american troops but again it was he who increased military advisers there , so he is not more than a overrated president .

    • @Dowell318
      @Dowell318 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah, that struck me too. He acknowledged the costs, and it even broke it down to the person (40 cent per person, to go up to 50 cent), to make it understandable. A gallon of gas in 1960 was about 31 cent, so it would be equivalent to maybe $4 per person today. So it's not zero, but not overly burdensome. Still great to hear honesty there.

    Truly inspirational! JFK loved to use contrasting comparisons in many speeches, and this one is no different. I love how he inspires by showing what lies in front of us and what it tells us about ourselves when facing a daunting task. When he says, "Why climb the highest mountain?" followed up with "Why does Rice play Texas?" we understand that the truly great people want to measure themselves against the best competition or the most challenging task. It's all about perspective. Either we embrace the great challenges, or we shrink away from them. Americans, throughout their history, have welcomed and embraced those challenges. When the right leadership is there, nothing can hold back the United States of America.

    That standing ovation at the start that kept going well past when he was ready to speak. Biden isn't getting that ovation at a neutral setting, neither is Trump, or any other politician today. JFK was a different breed. One of the greatest and most beloved leaders ever. May God rest his wonderful soul.

    The enthusiasm this man generated, quite apart from his high office....

    It's now a month past the 60th anniversary of this monumental speech. "WE CHOOSE TO GO TO THE MOON IN THIS DECADE..." replays in my head over and over after the successful launch of the SLS for the (ongoing as of this post 11/18/22) Artemis I mission.
    We will be returning to the moon in this decade, not to visit, but to stay! GO ARTEMIS!

    I don't know why, but when he turns on his booming voice at 4:28, I always get chills ("SO IT IS NOT SURPRISING...")

    Wow! What a speech President Kennedy . " Some men see things as they are and say why I dream things that never were and say why not"

      That's an RFK quote. Ted even quoted it during his eulogy.

      @@ER0CK5_ RFK cribbed it from George Bernard Shaw. But it's still the most inspirational quote ever put on paper.

    Smooth operator, handsome, youthful with a gorgeous wife & small kids, JFK was magnetic back then & this country's not seen the likes of someone like him since that day in Dallas.
