This is the first substantive interview that I've seen with President Kennedy. I'm struck by how intelligent, well-informed, and articulate he is. I don't get the impression that he's mouthing "partisan talking points", as presidents and other politicians of both parties do today. Kudos to the professionalism of the three reporters who asked probing questions without any indication that they were playing a game of "gotcha."
I believe that any person,man or woman who is democratically elected into a high profile job often had some skeleton in their cupboard,but people would have more confidence in politics and politicans if more were like JFK. He earns the respect of the electorate which doesn't seem to be happen today. Sometimes I think people vote for a politician because there is little to choose among all the candidates. I wonder if there will ever be a time when there is someone even close to JFK in any political regime in any country, but this is what is required, a leader with some integrity and working for the people and not their own interests and egos. James Banks Not sure what you mean by "So what". I answered a question why he was the way he was as oppose to someone like Nixon, Reagan, Ford, Carter, Bush or Clintons. Politicians are all dirty, including the Kennedys but we give JFK a pass. The greatest President we had was FDR and he too came from a well to do family, but was more self made than JFK. Yes, JFK was a decent man, but so is someone like Carter, but he didn't have the backing. I think RFK was the great one frankly. The one big problem I have about JFK is that he was a world arms dealer and into military sales abroad for the illusion of a big war and Gore Vidal who knew him well has documented this. Remember, Eisenhower, right before he quite, warned us about that too.

He was a man who carried so much weight of responsibility on his shoulders and yet received little or nothing in the way of support in return. He was driven by noble and sincere motives, but yet, his life was taken before his labor was finished. No matter what you thought of him or his family, he had a good deal to offer his country and the rest of the free world with his his youthfulness, his calm, cool collectiveness, vast knowledge, dedication, and courageous leadership.
I read that his method of decision-making was to listen to each of his advisors but then make the decision on his own. There weren't any group decisions made in his administration. This was a good thing, especially during the Cuban Missile Crisis, as some of his advisers wanted the U.S. to attack the Russian ships. Kennedy chose to come to a peaceful agreement with Russia.

Speaking as a Brit who was only 3 when he was murdered, it is my greatest regret that this great man was not allowed to carry on and complete two terms - I believe the world would have been a much better place had he survived. I care not one jot about the vagaries of his personal life - he was a great, clever, compassionate man who really tried to do things differently and for the better. He was a massive loss. This interview shows it, those films where we see his clever humour show it, his great speeches (I am thinking in particular of the American University speech) show it. Many people forget his outstanding American University speech on June 10, 1963 (compared to his speech on racism the next day, June 11) on the fight with Alabama over admitting blacks to that university that got more publicity. His PEACE SPEECH on June 10, was by far the best speech of his presidency and signaled a shift to peaceful coexistence with Russia (also Vietnam, by extension) and an end to the awful Cold War mentality if he had lived past the 5 1/2 months he only was allowed.

I was eight when I sat on my Dad's shoulders and waved to him as he went by in a motorcade in Detroit in '62. So many US middle class WWII vets saw him as their hero. They (those of my Dad's generation) identified with him and had a faith in him that I never saw again in any President afterward, Democrat or Republican. Take the time and watch his Inaugural Address and other speeches and compare them to subsequent Presidents. They don't have the same affect.
He had strong grasp and insight into the many many issues of the day! He dealt with every issue: from poverty to racism at home and world peace abroad! Intelligence, charisma and good looks! Of course, those are just the icing! But the greatest of all are his sincerity, seriousness and sense of duty to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States! I was 5 years old when he was killed. My only memory is seeing how sad my mother was, and her making me watch the funeral. I was too young to understand what a loss it was for this country . Thank goodness there are many tapes like this to show what a speaker and intellect he really was.
I was 6 yrs old. I remember well because I was at home sick. I saw the broadcast on TV and it was a very terrible sad day. My Mother cried and I did too.

I am a republican so I cannot say that I agree with all of the positions that President Kennedy took on various programs that were discussed or implemented in the 60's, however, with that being put aside for a moment, I have to say that I find the honesty and straight talk and openess or this great man to be extrememly refreshing, especially in this day and age. No teleprompters, no "talking points", no crib notes...just a very well eduacted and well spoken man who understands the issues and can speak directly off the cuff with conviction and facts in a convincing mannner. I doubt we will ever see this kind of President again. Government has gotten too big and too complex for one man to even understand it anymore at the level that this man personally understood the issues.

Happy to admit where he made the wrong judgment call on decisions, highlights the true difficulties of office & has a very clear strategy on the future. Born 20 years after he was assassinated, and he means more to me the older I get. I think about President Kennedy every day. Imagine what he could do now. Imagine what he would’ve done with 8 years. Look at how easily he draws on history and political knowledge. Look at how honestly and clearly he speaks. It’s impossibly to quantify what we lost when JFK was killed. He had shortcomings and flaws, but the dignity, intellect, and larger ideals made Kennedy a remarkable leader pushing for a better, more just world.

My father attended Harvard and Harvard Law School at the same time Joe and Jack did. They all started in the Jeffries Point section of Boston, the Irish and Italians, both scrabbling to participate in the American dream. My Dad's law office was in the old Columbia Trust on Meridian Street where Joe Sr launched the financial empire and political dynasty. Dad served the parallel district in the state legislature as did Jack at the congressional level. This generation poured out of WWII directly into the city halls, state legislatures and the nation's capitol as a natural extension of their quiet heroism and noblesse oblige. Bush Sr was the last president to serve. To think: that beautiful mind was silenced by a couple of bullets loaded into the gun of a silly little wannabe- somebody, prompted or not by a ruthless, reactionary, narcissistic cabal of do-badders. Our generation was lucky to have him and unlucky to lose him. I knew the excellent journalist Sander Vanocur as well...to see him too...that is a bygone era the likes of which we ll never see again. Perhaps few remember: the last words of his inaugural address weren't the "Ask not what your country can do for you etc...." but instead, paraphrased somewhat, "let us remember that on earth God's work must truly be our own."

Politicians are all dirty, including the Kennedys but we give JFK a pass. The greatest President we had was FDR and he too came from a well to do family, but was more self made than JFK. Yes, JFK was a decent man, but so is someone like Carter, but he didn't have the backing. I think RFK was the great one frankly. The one big problem I have about JFK is that he was a world arms dealer and into military sales abroad for the illusion of a big war and Gore Vidal who knew him well has documented this. Remember, Eisenhower, right before he quite, warned us about that too.

I read that his method of decision-making was to listen to each of his advisors but then make the decision on his own. There weren't any group decisions made in his administration. This was a good thing, especially during the Cuban Missile Crisis, as some of his advisers wanted the U.S. to attack the Russian ships. Kennedy chose to come to a peaceful agreement with Russia.

Speaking as a Brit who was only 3 when he was murdered, it is my greatest regret that this great man was not allowed to carry on and complete two terms - I believe the world would have been a much better place had he survived. I care not one jot about the vagaries of his personal life - he was a great, clever, compassionate man who really tried to do things differently and for the better. He was a massive loss. This interview shows it, those films where we see his clever humour show it, his great speeches (I am thinking in particular of the American University speech) show it. It's a great pity we have no one like this now enobling the profession of politics.

Many people forget his outstanding American University speech on June 10, 1963 (compared to his speech on racism the next day, June 11) on the fight with Alabama over admitting blacks to that university that got more publicity. His PEACE SPEECH on June 10, was by far the best speech of his presidency and signaled a shift to peaceful coexistence with Russia (also Vietnam, by extension) and an end to the awful Cold War mentality if he had lived past the 5 1/2 months he only was allowed.

I was eight when I sat on my Dad's shoulders and waved to him as he went by in a motorcade in Detroit in '62. So many US middle class WWII vets saw him as their hero. They (those of my Dad's generation) identified with him and had a faith in him that I never saw again in any President afterward, Democrat or Republican. Take the time and watch his Inaugural Address and other speeches and compare them to subsequent Presidents. They don't have the same affect.
He had strong grasp and insight into the many many issues of the day!
He dealt with every issue: from poverty to racism at home and world peace abroad!

I am a republican so I cannot say that I agree with all of the positions that President Kennedy took on various programs that were discussed or implemented in the 60's, however, with that being put aside for a moment, I have to say that I find the honesty and straight talk and openess or this great man to be extrememly refreshing, especially in this day and age. No teleprompters, no "talking points", no crib notes...just a very well eduacted and well spoken man who understands the issues and can speak directly off the cuff with conviction and facts in a convincing mannner. I doubt we will ever see this kind of President again. Government has gotten too big and too complex for one man to even understand it anymore at the level that this man personally understood the issues.

These guys (the Kennedy brothers) were once a century guys. Their killings were political power moves meant to take things in a direction indefinitely - not for just a few years and they were successful in that effort.

What an incredibly articulate and intelligent man. Any previous books read or interviews listened to he never wavers. Happy to admit where he made the wrong judgment call on decisions, highlights the true difficulties of office & has a very clear strategy on the future. If one compares this interview with the current (or last) president ..............phew - something is really really really out of kilter.

Born 20 years after he was assassinated, and he means more to me the older I get. I think about President Kennedy every day. Imagine what he could do now. Imagine what he would’ve done with 8 years. Look at how easily he draws on history and political knowledge. Look at how honestly and clearly he speaks. It’s impossibly to quantify what we lost when JFK was killed.
He had shortcomings and flaws, but the dignity, intellect, and larger ideals made Kennedy a remarkable leader pushing for a better, more just world.
Same here I was born 16 years later after his assassination and if he was still alive back in 79 he would make everything better for America and around the world I'm a big fan of the Kennedy's

I see him and weep at what might have been. His intellect, charm, wit and incisive slant on politics, international affairs and presidential prerogative...his grace, humility, irony, poetry and Irish grit...never known before or after. My father attended Harvard and Harvard Law School at the same time Joe and Jack did. They all started in the Jeffries Point section of Boston, the Irish and Italians, both scrabbling to participate in the American dream. My Dad's law office was in the old Columbia Trust on Meridian Street where Joe Sr launched the financial empire and political dynasty. Dad served the parallel district in the state legislature as did Jack at the congressional level. This generation poured out of WWII directly into the city halls, state legislatures and the nation's capitol as a natural extension of their quiet heroism and noblesse oblige. Bush Sr was the last president to serve.
To think: that beautiful mind was silenced by a couple of bullets loaded into the gun of a silly little wannabe- somebody, prompted or not by a ruthless, reactionary, narcissistic cabal of do-badders. Our generation was lucky to have him and unlucky to lose him. I knew the excellent journalist Sander Vanocur as well...to see him too...that is a bygone era the likes of which we ll never see again. Perhaps few remember: the last words of his inaugural address weren't the "Ask not what your country can do for you etc...." but instead, paraphrased somewhat, "let us remember that on earth God's work must truly be our own."

Oswald may have fired a bullet, we don't really know and never will, but the assassination was planned and performed by others. Oswald was a "patsy" as he claimed and probably the same people were responsible for RFK in reality. I don't want to think about the current election race and what may happen ! 🥺 And I'm an Aussie living in Australia. God help the world the direction it has taken . ☹
JFK was murdered less than a year before I was born but I've seen and read enough to know the World was better for having him and worse for losing him. We NEED an exact copy of him in the White House now and not some nutcase egomaniac !
