I would definitely take out the HVAC unit and thoroughly disassemble and clean it. With the water being that high, there are likely areas that could harbor mold. Never a better time than now. Even if it wasn't flooded, the evaporator can hold a fair amount of dirt since the early cars didn't have cabin air filters.

Yes, I agree, now I just have to figure how to do it 😁

Another fantastic video, hate removing the dash panels as one of the clips holding the switches always break just like the hazard switch 😢

Thank you James! I still need to look at the Hazard switch, it might actually be ok 🤞

Excellent work as ever - i would certainly strip and clean the cluster before replacing. I have transferred speedos between clusters and also corrected the mileage on a speedo in the past. You can test the speedo with a cheap signal generator and 12v power supply. If it were me I think I would be going for a complete disassembly and rebuild of the car. I think the inside of the chassis will need power washing thoroughly so I would be very tempted to drop the rear beam, gearbox, fuel tank, and then engine and front suspension. I have actually seen someone drop the whole lot as one with the torque tube on a 2 post ramp

Thanks Jake! I would have loved to do that, but I don't have the facilities or space to separate the drivetrain and suspension from the body, so I have to do it bit by bit. But to be fair the underside of the car looks much better than the inside and once I have completed the work I will have the underside professionally cleaned by a dry ice company.

@@GarageBiljon I am thinking that all those hidden cavities in the chassis would have filled with water and dirt. Eg sills, those bits with the speakers in, under the floor, chassis rails, around abs pump etc etc. There is a lot of nasty glue under the carpets - suspect an ice blaster would be the tool for that! I have a man booked for a couple of weeks time to remove horrid wax oil on the underside

@@jakerade1 actually, while there are some hidden areas, most of the chassis is designed with drain holes so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. I agree about the cluster, it also is a good time to separate the front panel and refinish the face plate for the instruments (tends to get that weird dotted type finish) as well as the light tubes.

I wouldn't say the cluster is dead.
I would strip the cluster as far as possible, clean any corrosion from contacts and circuit boards.
The bezel can be separated by carefully heating the whole cluster up to soften the adhesive (If it's glued, VW Golf IV fans do this to their headlights and Instrument clusters)
Then when the car is reassembled see if it all works during the test drive

Good advice, after some further inspection and retrospection I have also come to conclusion that stripping it down and cleaning it can't do any harm and I know where to find used guages, so I am going to try and fix it first 👍
