I just installed the new joysticks and I love them! If anyone is wondering what sticks work without needed modifying. The envision scuf sticks work without modifying at all. I installed the raised sticks to help me from touching the screen on intense gaming 😂. I did notice the dommed ones worked better then the concave ones. Idk why I think it's the finish on the cone of it
Best Handheld modding TH-camr EVER ❤ Thanks for covering literally everything that comes to mind. But one question remains that I asked previously... In case of factory resetting windows or driver updates,...etc, will the hardware calibration of the sticks reset or is it a once in a lifetime step?
Thanks so much !! 🤠🤠💕, it does seem to be saved on the hardware itself. I actually did reset things, and it did seem to lock in on that memory chip on the board.
Just got mine. Installed them with the DualSense edge clear sticks. It’s swappable. Drilled out the inside like the video says. Still rubbed a bit. But if you cut a small piece off of the ridges on the stem they fit nicely
Habe meine heute bekommen. Mega die Error Grenze ist bei mir bei 8 %. Irgendwie Zufall mit den Kappen. Die habe ich in transparent. Jetzt funktioniert alles perfekt. Danke für das super Video🎉 Lg
Hey man, I just installed mine. Did the K1 and K2 calibration on both sticks while on the handheld gamepad tester site. Everything looked good there, until I went into armory crate to calibrate and my left stick was already buggin (before and after K1 and K2 calibration). It shows it out the gate just in a half down position on armory crate. I tried to hold it towards the center and calibrate it that way, but it still showed it going in a down position while resting there. So then I calibrated it just the way it was, without forcing it towards a perfect center, and now when I go to navigate upwards on steam or something, it will sometimes register it as a right flick and select something completely different than the direction I was trying to go (basically I flick the left stick up, but it goes right on the screen). Any advice to fix it?
Yes you’ll need to redo the calibration on hardware side first. Then reset in armory crate to default settings before to be safe. I also just gone done calibrating a set of the gulikit sticks on a video and they didn’t same thing. It’s sometimes just armory crate being confused with the sticks. Be sure before you do the hardware calibration you haven’t opened up armory crate yet
Can you try to record it and drop it to me on discord ? My discord links in the description. There’s people who’ve had squeaky d-pad which is a totally unrelated thing but that could be starting it’s an easy fix if that’s what it is. The joysticks are on a totally different circuit I believe so there won’t be any reason anything could affect the d-pad.
When you press R4 while on the desktop, does your cursor move? I've noticed pressing R4 or R3 doesn't just register the button press, but registers movement of the joysticks as well. Not sure if I'm asking the right thing or explaining it correctly.
Howdy. Would you be able to provide an example of what it’s doing or not doing in my discord and @me. I’ll share what mine does and can compare. Also a lot of folks in the discord are running the upgrade too
Is there any interference between the left trigger and left joystick? I know this was an issue for some people upgrading to hall effect sticks on the original Ally.
I have a set on my desk I ordered and am about to review so we’ll find out. So far I’m not 100% sold on them yet. They lack a feature already that the handhelddiy has which is hardware calibration for steam os
@@cppctek I see, cuz I already have em installed and I'm wondering how it compares with the handhelddiy. Thanks for doing all the testing on behalf of us! I will definitely watch your upcoming review! Oh and btw, I just did the hardware calibration thru Armory crate.
@Pilow-q1c nice that’s the software side via armory crate but the hhdiy sticks have two buttons on the back of them for programming in steam os since steam os does not have armory crate. And thanks for staying tuned I’ll show them very soon and be honest of pros And cons and which one feels better and more accurate. I’m a bigggg fps player so stick accuracy and feeling are everything to me
Some what, more excited to see how many other people will love it. 75% of my games aren’t on steam and or not compatible with playing online with steam os since they have anti cheat engines. I play call of duty and first person shooters online and a lot of Xbox game pass games.
They sell the Hall effect joystick modules for the the og ally but I mentioned around the 1:30 mark or right after about the hall sticks for the og ally had interference issues when you pull the triggers and use directional movements. Shielding can be done but it never will fully eliminate it. Unfortunately due to the placements of the stock magnets for the triggers on og ally there’s no way around it. The other option is modding the spring on the og ally module I’ve shown in a video before that helps a lot !
@cppctek Thanks a lot!! I really love your videos, I apologize hehe, my English is pretty bad and I didn't realize you mentioned it in the video😊! Keep it up beast!
I only want to add heatsink to the original rog ally x ssd. Does anyone know any good heat sink won't touch the back of ally x. I just recieve mine last friday
Elite series 2 modules screw on, series 1 pop on like regular modules. Elite 1 sticks stay on very well so might be worth trying to find some stock modules.
Ah thanks. I will do some digging on measurements and see if that’s an option that might work. More than likely the Xbox ones may also require just as much work though.
@@cppctek they might, I have a few lying around so once my diy tmr sticks get here when I’m installing them I’ll check them out. I threw in some gulikit Hall effects until the handheld diys get here but I was worried that the magnets in the elite sticks would mess with the calibration and signals. Good to know they won’t, I also bought a couple of pairs of eXtremeRate swappable sticks that don’t use magnets, I’m going to test those out too. Nice to see I’m not the only one trying to figure these things out 🤣. Thanks for all the videos you’re one of the only TH-camrs that give me information that I need for mods. Keep up the great work!
I have the gulikit kit installed in my ally x right now. They work well and calibration was a breeze with them but they are looser than I like. I’m hoping that the handheld diy kit tightens them up more.
@KITS2JZ thanks for the sub ! I play pretty much nothing but call of duty and racing games and this is the best handheld experience for sure. Way better than console and the controls feel even better and more realistic and premium
Weird question. I am putting the hall effect sticks in tomorrow. I few weeks ago I did a ssd upgrade. After completely powering down the Ally x, when pop the back plate off, it turns the system back on again. Any idea why?
I’ve accidentally tapped the power button while taking backplate off. Just be sure to plug in power if it won’t turn on. The light sensor sometimes gets tripped.
Hey I was just wondering, every time I hear about swapping the sticks everybody says to reset the calibration for the stock sticks before taking everything apart, but you never do, so is it not necessary ??
No I’ve never reset before. That’s no different than resetting once the sticks are in. Does nothing different. Just follow the guide I did from start to finish and you’ll see my success
Like both sides left and right side ? Yeah they are sold in pairs because you don’t want one side being different than the other. The handheld diy joystick kit has everything you need
No unfortunately not. I compare them in the video as being extremely different modules and sizes of pcb too in the video. I also explain showing why I didn’t like the ones that they sell that do fit the og ally @1:50
Just nodded my Ally X with the Gulikit Hall effects with the PS5 Purple sticks.. Works great without modifying them.. Just as is.. Also thanks for the transparent backplate video just did both mods, transparent back plate and Gulikit Hall effect at the same time.. Looks beautiful.. Looking forward to your thoughts on the Gulikit HE..
If you have 25-% you need to calibrate both hardware and armory crate. Not one or the other. Has to be both in order exactly in this video and you’ll have 10-15%. Also I give a great explanation to what the error rate means in this video. If you have 20+ then I would strongly strongly advice watching the calibration steps I took and you’ll see my error rate results

That type of soldering requires a really high quality hot air rework station and a lot of experience doing bga soldering. One of those things could bridge and short your whole device. It’s not worth the risk. I already can get insane speeds on my ally x wifi. If there was a drop in card id do it
Got mine a week ago. Waited 3 months! Totally worth it. HandHeldDiy didn’t disappoint. Tension is great. Glow in the dark extremerate sticks fit well.
