My grandparents brand new whirlpool was doing this. i went through the manual and found that you Must use the u-shape mold holder thing on the drain pipe when fitted above the standing pipe drain type that comes up directly behind the washer. It also stated to not have more than x ammount of inches inside the drain pipe. I checked it and the u-shape was not being used and there was a good foot shoved down the drain pipe. I also found the hot water was shut off the manual states to leave it on even if not doing hot washes. After correcting these two issues it started to work as normal. That blinking sensing light is not the error code. You need to turn the knob to the right. It will flash a series of lights which will indicate the error code. Keep turning it to the right, and it will continue flashing remaining error codes. The blinking sensing light indicates you have reached the end of the stored codes. (It will store 4 error codes)

My GE washer does every cycle correctly but when it starts to was it seems like it does not have the normal power cause clothes stay in one place. When it rinses motor takes of with super power. I changed my shift actuator. The washer operates as it should during the automatic test mode. However, when i attempt to wash a cycle it senses, fills up with water, then drains the water out and does not go to the wash cycle.
My whirlpool top loader is in sender mode and it's not starting to wash. I bought it last month and my husband installed it but it's not washing neither the light comes on when the lid is locked. Only sense filling has been blinking. What can I do to fix it?
I tried to pour water in the machine by using a bucket because my water connection to the machine is very low. But it's still on sensing fill and won't goes into wash.
I’m having issues with the same thing but I do what you’re doing on the dial and I hit start load then it starts. Other than that will not start unless I do that…
You mentioned the tub rocking back and forth. Do you have a video or insight on what to look at/fix for that issue? Mine is coming up on 7 years old. For starters, it's been acting weird lately with the lights and stopping mid-cycle and not finishing. I tried a recalibration from another video (a different method than yours) and after doing that twice, it's working ok now, but I have a bad feeling it's not going to last. I may try your recalibration method after that. If that doesn't make it run right, I'll try swapping this part you mentioned. The other issue is the rocking back and forth. It's been doing that for a few years, and it's VERY bad. Sounds like an earthquake in my house. We make sure to even the clothes out too. I've never looked into this rocking issue, though. Didn't think there would be a fix for that. Any ideas?
as far as the rocking you can check 2 things the little feet on the bottom corners are adjustable by turning then in or out.....see if its off level slightly. the other would require turning the machine on its back and checking the basket hanger spring to see if they disconnected or broke. hope this helps!
hi my amana washer is filling with water and both hot and cold works but when the water gets to the top it drains... I am unsure if it's the actuator or the capacitor. The lid also pauses the sensing fill cycle. Before that the washer would wash then quit wont advance
Similar issue with mine. Replaced shift motor, no change after calibration. Thinking i heard the drive motor try to come on. I put it on a stand and ran auto test while watching main pulleys. They moved slightly with a motor hum but then stopped. Gonna try a start capacitor and then another motor. If that doesn't work then motherboard is next. I took motor off and connected straight to extn cord. It did not want to start but eventually did. It was just arcing at terminals with no movement. I think its my motor that's bad. We'll see.
@@DIYKAI I figured it out. It's working like a top now. Had to lay the unit on the side and I was tracing the wiring from the motor up to the controller and before it goes into the harness there's a coil of red electrical wire zip tied to the frame. And there's a connector were three wires come together. It was faulty and burned. Replaced it and I'm back in business. Thanks for your help.
Hi, once I did the diagnostic assessment to my Whirlpool Washer MOD WTW5000DW1 the lights Sensing and Wash remained on. What it could be? What should I do next. Thank you.
We unfortunately are not Maytag repair people so we don’t dive into the deep stuff we are just showing what worked for us as well as hundreds of others that it worked for
The gear cases / drive motors are notoriously bad in these. In one week I picked up 4 may tag versions that look exactly like this as whirlpool, ge, may tag are all same company now. If the main seal go the gear case motor soon will follow and is a $300 part. I get similar free broken ones then piece together a working one.
I replaced actuator then did the re calibration but it still does it. There's no drain clog, belt is prestine, new actuator, I'm about to buy a motor will that fix it?
Mine want spin after it drains and makes odd noises and sounds like it's trying to agitate instead of spinning and after it does that twice it says complete and the clothes are obviously still wet....ive replaced that same part and recalibrated it with no luck...any ideas?
@@DIYKAI No, the lights go out after a few minutes. I can get it to wash now by lifting the lid after pushing start, turning the dial to the right 2 or 3 notches, close lid and push start again and it works…hopefully, I’m not messing up the electronics.
what if the lid lock light is not on? my washer will still spin even though the lid lock light is not on then nothing. then sometimes it will move to wash, without doing anything. then i hit start and it goes back to sensing. is this video the solution to this issue?
also after recalibration at the very end before it’s done, it runs some water then cuts off. all the recalibration videos I’ve watched this doesn’t happen. please help!
My Kenmore series 500 HE washer was doing the same exact thing. I followed your steps after installing new synchronized motor washer did all cycle steps but no wash or spin it filled and drained lights light up appropriately during cycle but no wash or spin any suggestions on what to try next
I got a older Whirlpool Cabrio with this problem. Lid switch was changed by the pr. Thevious now deceased owner. Still didnt fix. Mice eat the instruction manual while in storage. Lol. Im going try this next. Thanks
So mine gets stuck in sensing mode, but no lock. When I go to cancel all lights go off and it makes a noise like it's running, but nothing is happing and I can't get it to do anything still. Do you have any suggestions?
I just replaced this very part about 2 months ago...... it's broken again....just like before, mine won't shift into agitate, just barely moves & clicks....it will spin out tho (kinda poorly, leaving laundry a bit too wet) My question to you is, this actuator/shifter sat brand new & unopened in my garage for at least 3 years.....in your opinion, do you think that played a role in it's quick failure? Appliances these days are plastic trash.
Hello so as far as sitting not really unless the conditions were terrible like super hot super cold or wet. What we commonly see is either the tub is over loaded should only be about 3/4 full or the capacitor could be going out
@@DIYKAI thanks for your quick reply, I never overload the machine (they are so prone to break down even when you baby them) I will check out that part recommendation, my error code was sensing like yours.....it gets very hot/humid here....maybe just a dud part I had. TY again.
I followed all steps and it went a little further in the cycles but stopped again with water left in it. When I do the diagnostic it still shows a sensing issue. Any ideas?
Best video Forreal explained everything gonna take this thing out on Sunday! Hope I can follow these easy steps ❤ very well explained 👍🏾 keep making vids about home improvement to save us some money haha
@DIY KAI in the initial stage the machine was not agitating or spinning. I used the service manual to enter the diagnostic settings and pulled up the error codes. Everything pointed to the shift actuator and the power control board. I replaced the shift actuator and calibrate it. The cycles are fine except it keeps overfilling. Did some more check in keeping with the technician manual and everything now points to the power control board. I am not getting a specific voltage from the board.

I have a Kenmore and the sensor light is blinking and all it is doing is when you close the lid it keeps filling with water. The machine has a third of after and WILL NOT DRAIN! What do you suggest?
Okay mine's not doing exactly that like I can do the sensing it will fill in the water to go to wash and then it drains but if I try to hit the starter stop button nothing nothing is light up but I can hear my washer trying to run
great video, i have the exact same machine, i tried going into the menu, but no lights, if i hit the start button, i get a solid sensing light with nothing else, if i hit start button again, sensing light flashes, start again, solid sensing light and so on. my beginning issue was the washer would not drain. i have taken the washer outside, took the back off and drain hoses, nothing was clogging the hoses. is there a drain filter on this unit? possible drain motor might need replaced, sensor board bad? i really dont want to buy a new washer, but this one is right around 10 years old.
Thanks, the best way is to try and pull the codes…if it’s giving trouble unplug it for 10 or so minutes and retry…..don’t think there is a serviceable drain filter, yes the drain motor could be bad, at 10 years look at the capacitor as well they tend to wear out with age as well
Howdy! I watched your video a couple months back and put in a new actuator (bought a new one off of Amazon). It worked for a little bit, but then stopped working again (but new weird sounds and actions). I bought a new sprocket and belt set, and I'm still getting stuck on SENSING.
Before that the washer would wash then quit wont advance
it also doesnt calibrate the lights do the cycle but the lid wont lock like it did in the video
Awesome video! I so appreciate your help! I am now a subscriber!!
Thanks 🙏
Similar issue with mine. Replaced shift motor, no change after calibration. Thinking i heard the drive motor try to come on. I put it on a stand and ran auto test while watching main pulleys. They moved slightly with a motor hum but then stopped. Gonna try a start capacitor and then another motor. If that doesn't work then motherboard is next. I took motor off and connected straight to extn cord. It did not want to start but eventually did. It was just arcing at terminals with no movement. I think its my motor that's bad. We'll see.
could be the run cap for sure as the motor is probably a high amp draw that's maybe why it started slow....
@@headpainter1 awesome! No worries glad it’s up and running
Hi, once I did the diagnostic assessment to my Whirlpool Washer MOD WTW5000DW1 the lights Sensing and Wash remained on. What it could be? What should I do next. Thank you.
Have you checked the drain hose for clogs? As well as the hot & cold fill hoses make sure there is no trash in the screens.
I did this and it just shows Locked. I can’t figure out how to run the machine without the lock. Any suggestions?
Have you run the diagnostics setting
I have a whirpool it washes but doesnt change to the next setting, but the water level doesn’t cover all clothes would this piece fix that too?
Not sure you can pull the hoses off and makes sure the screens are not clogged at all. You would have to run a diagnostic on your washer
What if I changed the actuator and it still gets stuck on sensing and locked lid?? Would that be cause the locking mechanism?
So how do I know what the problem is? You didn't show how to do the diagnostics
We unfortunately are not Maytag repair people so we don’t dive into the deep stuff we are just showing what worked for us as well as hundreds of others that it worked for
Thanks for your help! I appreciate it! I fixed my washer.
Your welcome! Glad it helped
Is it possible to test the syncronous motor somehow?
I’m not sure how
Hey I have a GE top load washer that’s not filling with water the lid locks than the sensing light runs across can you point me in the right direction
You will have to put it into diagnostic mode and pull the codes. Would need the model#
Thank you!!! New sub. You fixed my washer!!!!!
Your welcome! Glad we could help 😀
What if the locked light just keeps blinking an extra long time after it seems 2b calibrated?
The gear cases / drive motors are notoriously bad in these. In one week I picked up 4 may tag versions that look exactly like this as whirlpool, ge, may tag are all same company now. If the main seal go the gear case motor soon will follow and is a $300 part. I get similar free broken ones then piece together a working one.
I replaced actuator then did the re calibration but it still does it. There's no drain clog, belt is prestine, new actuator, I'm about to buy a motor will that fix it?
not sure it's hard to say without seeing in person
Hello. Sorry but I got the sensing light and soak lights for my error code would that still just be the same part??
I removed my actuator and tested it with a 120v supply and it worked. Yet my machine still giving the same error
Have you tried to recalibrate it? Sometimes the part can fail intermitted, or you could have another issue causing the error
@DIYKAI I recalibrate it but it's still not washing, rinsing or spinning
I have same problem in my washer but I don’t even hear the motor running, what the problem do you think?
Hard to say without seeing it in person
Your pretty good. Impressive an thanks for your sharp knowlageable video
Thank you 🙏
Mine want spin after it drains and makes odd noises and sounds like it's trying to agitate instead of spinning and after it does that twice it says complete and the clothes are obviously still wet....ive replaced that same part and recalibrated it with no luck...any ideas?
Check the drain and pump
What is the issue if ' rinse spin and complete ' lights up
Not sure have you run a diagnostic
Mine has the sensing fill button blinking and the other lights except lid locked, are on. How do I get it to WASH?
Does the washer fill with water?
@@DIYKAI No, the lights go out after a few minutes. I can get it to wash now by lifting the lid after pushing start, turning the dial to the right 2 or 3 notches, close lid and push start again and it works…hopefully, I’m not messing up the electronics.
Remove the water hoses and check the screen for blockage
what if the lid lock light is not on? my washer will still spin even though the lid lock light is not on then nothing. then sometimes it will move to wash, without doing anything. then i hit start and it goes back to sensing. is this video the solution to this issue?
also after recalibration at the very end before it’s done, it runs some water then cuts off. all the recalibration videos I’ve watched this doesn’t happen. please help!
My Kenmore series 500 HE washer was doing the same exact thing. I followed your steps after installing new synchronized motor washer did all cycle steps but no wash or spin it filled and drained lights light up appropriately during cycle but no wash or spin any suggestions on what to try next
we can only guess? as we are not washer repair people. maybe the run/start capacitor

Great video, but my machine fills then drains , hope u can assist me
You will have to run the diagnostic codes
So mine gets stuck in sensing mode, but no lock. When I go to cancel all lights go off and it makes a noise like it's running, but nothing is happing and I can't get it to do anything still. Do you have any suggestions?
Does it fill with water
I just replaced this very part about 2 months ago...... it's broken again....just like before, mine won't shift into agitate, just barely moves & clicks....it will spin out tho (kinda poorly, leaving laundry a bit too wet)
My question to you is, this actuator/shifter sat brand new & unopened in my garage for at least 3 years.....in your opinion, do you think that played a role in it's quick failure?
Appliances these days are plastic trash.
Hello so as far as sitting not really unless the conditions were terrible like super hot super cold or wet.
What we commonly see is either the tub is over loaded should only be about 3/4 full or the capacitor could be going out
@@DIYKAI thanks for your quick reply, I never overload the machine (they are so prone to break down even when you baby them) I will check out that part recommendation, my error code was sensing like yours.....it gets very hot/humid here....maybe just a dud part I had. TY again.
@@ironsnowflake1076 your welcome maybe try contacting the place u got the part and see if they can warranty it
I got new part and did the entire calibration but still not doing anything
Do you do the same if it gets stuck on wash
Not sure put the part in a sensor so it could be
Sorry I don’t understand. I followed the instructions on the video would I have to replace the part
@@luigicoppola6934 the instructions are for after installing the new part
I followed all steps and it went a little further in the cycles but stopped again with water left in it. When I do the diagnostic it still shows a sensing issue. Any ideas?
Not sure hard to say maybe a fill sensor?
Best video Forreal explained everything gonna take this thing out on Sunday! Hope I can follow these easy steps ❤ very well explained 👍🏾 keep making vids about home improvement to save us some money haha

I have a Kenmore 500 Series Auto Load Sensing Washer That is Stuck On Sensing, any recommendations on fixing that problem ?
most wash machines have similar parts check the sensing switch or the run capacitor
Did you ever get it fixed? Have the same issue now. I just Swapped the part and now am testing.
@@blash7991 ours works done many loads so far
Still having issues. Now it’s stuck in wash. I have calibrated twice.
If it’s stuck on sensing and water won’t go in check the water inlet valve

I have this issue and I replace the shift actuator but it's not fixed it just overfill and it wasn't not pressure hose
What exactly is happening?
@DIY KAI in the initial stage the machine was not agitating or spinning. I used the service manual to enter the diagnostic settings and pulled up the error codes. Everything pointed to the shift actuator and the power control board. I replaced the shift actuator and calibrate it. The cycles are fine except it keeps overfilling. Did some more check in keeping with the technician manual and everything now points to the power control board. I am not getting a specific voltage from the board.
@@seanwilliams5403 yea some of these things are getting old we have a newer one now this was an extra one we are dreading the day we have an issue with the new ones lol
@DIY KAI ok, so the next step for me it to source a power control board Rev A
I have a whirlpool Cabrio, the error come up sensing and soak. Any thoughts to the problem?? Thanks
not sure but it seems we have so many techs in the comment section....lol....maybe one of them can chime in or better yet make a video?
This is my current issue. Let me know when you find the answer.
Thank you so much for your helpful video
Your welcome
mine goes to sensor then it keeps putting water in but doesn't go to wash, I can do all other modes no problem
What if rinse and done is lit?
Not sure you would have to run a diagnostic
My issue is that the tub fills too much. I thought this motor may have been the problem, but I’m not sure now.
Possibly a fill sensor?
I have a Kenmore and the sensor light is blinking and all it is doing is when you close the lid it keeps filling with water. The machine has a third of after and WILL NOT DRAIN! What do you suggest?
Possibly the drain motor
Gave u a sub bc u explained it all so well thank you
Thank you
Yes that was a great video thank you very much
Your welcome!
Okay mine's not doing exactly that like I can do the sensing it will fill in the water to go to wash and then it drains but if I try to hit the starter stop button nothing nothing is light up but I can hear my washer trying to run
Maybe the start run capacitor
Thank you for this information!
Your welcome!
great video, i have the exact same machine, i tried going into the menu, but no lights, if i hit the start button, i get a solid sensing light with nothing else, if i hit start button again, sensing light flashes, start again, solid sensing light and so on. my beginning issue was the washer would not drain. i have taken the washer outside, took the back off and drain hoses, nothing was clogging the hoses. is there a drain filter on this unit? possible drain motor might need replaced, sensor board bad? i really dont want to buy a new washer, but this one is right around 10 years old.
Thanks, the best way is to try and pull the codes…if it’s giving trouble unplug it for 10 or so minutes and retry…..don’t think there is a serviceable drain filter, yes the drain motor could be bad, at 10 years look at the capacitor as well they tend to wear out with age as well
@@DIYKAI i unplugged for over half an hour and no lights at all, any suggestions there? time to buy new one? :(
Unfortunately no if you can’t see the light it’s probably the main board
@@DIYKAI thank you for the info, guess im just fonnabuy a new one blah

Howdy! I watched your video a couple months back and put in a new actuator (bought a new one off of Amazon). It worked for a little bit, but then stopped working again (but new weird sounds and actions). I bought a new sprocket and belt set, and I'm still getting stuck on SENSING. I did individual diagnostic tests and got the washer to run and rinse water, but it's stuck on sensing. Any ideas... maybe a bad actuator? Thanks!
It’s possible if you look back in some of the comment an actual tech replied maybe you can tag him?
