A HUGE thank you for this. I was able to fix my washing machine easily following your video and EXCELLENT instructions. I was widowed 7 months ago. My husband was the ultimate fix-it guy. So, videos like this are so helpful. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
@@DuctTapeMechanicGreat demo on motor replacement, how to check if it w/o substituting w/new? My motor works (intermittently) , so I suspect the PCB. Cheers, love all Ur vids.
You are awesome! My shifter actuator was not broken but just got dislodged from the motor, reconnected it then fixed for free! Thanks man! More power to you!
I've done heating and air conditioning plumbing for most of my working days, I got into small appliance repair due to the demand, man thank you for taking your time to do this video.. Your freaking awesome...🎉🎉🎉🎉
Excellent instruction video!!! I've watched over a dozen videos on washer repair & yours are by far the best, most concise, specific, easiest to understand, & most simplistic to execute! Outstanding instruction! Thanks!
Bless you brother. Best repair video ever. Fast. Thorough. Well-lit and filmed. Concise. Even give the socket size. I lose ten minutes just trying to find the right one on every job. Great Job!
It is actually registering the amount of resistance/current draw it takes to turn the tub to determine the amount/weight of clothing in the tub to determine the amount of water to dispense and wash time. But a great video. I should have made videos for the 15 years I owned an appliance business but thankfully you are to help people.
I have a mvwx655dw1, it was stuck on spinning or wash. Diagnostic mode shown no errors, but it helped me to realize that shifter and agitation works just fine, but left me puzzled on the root cause. I figured out that if I switch to HOT water, the machine gets it during sensing but still gets stuck. Then I saw a post from one guy saying that cold inlet valve actually has 2 solenoids, one for the detergent dispenser and one just for cold water. It ringed a bell and I immediately thought that diagnostics mode may have checked one, but not the other. I simply bought and replaced cold inlet valve and now it works! Of course if you are an expert in multimeter you can simply check the solenoids, but for me it was: if valve doesn't help, I'll buy a new washer! Glad, it worked, lol. All in all maytag bravos maintainability is not good. Mine is 7 years, disassembling drum to check drainage was a pita, replaced suspension rods (became much better during spin), now replaced cold inlet valve. Wonder what happens next. Thanks for video btw.
It worked! Cold water valve solenoid ohmed bad. The inlet was full of sediment also. I swoped the cold water wiring and hose to the hot water valve and we’re back in business until the part comes in. Thanks a bunch!
Thank you!! You are a washing machine God!!😂 Mine started doing this and I took the cover off the bottom and the belt was off!!! Working great 👍 thanks
Question for ya. We have a whirlpool that blinks sensing and the lid lock will lock but doesn’t move from there. Do you think it is the lid latch assembly if it’s locking or something else?
Hi! mine won't go to diagnostic mode and stays only on sensing mode. I see two issues as per researched and videos related. The Shift actuator or control board. Please give me your feedback and ideas if I'm correct.
I bought a deep fill maytag top load washer but it seems like its always in HE eco mode and doesn't fill up, it uses as little water as a front load washer. I have tried the max level and waited untill it stopped adding water to check water level which is about 1/4 of the tub. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
My Whirlpool stuck in sensing mold if I select wash mold, but It draw water, spin and drain if I manually choose soak,Drain&spin molds.what’s my problem? The actuator?
I have reset and recalibrated my Whirlpool. It works everytime but it only last a a load or two. What could that be since it does not seem to be a broken actuator or valves as it works well once recalibrated.?
Thank you so much for posting this video and showing what maybe the problem I was judt so upset thinking I had to buy me a whole washer. I thought I did something wrong when watching your other video on replacing the shifter 😅
Hi, my whirlpool washer , it start filling water later it's showing wash light green, and lid locked showin red, but it doesn't washing. What's the problem it now.
My Maytag washer MVWC6ESWW1 has an automatic water level control combined into the temperature control. I found water all over the floor once and when I looked inside it was only half full and could not see any water leaking anywhere. I tried it again and it didn't spill any water through the whole cycle I went through your 5 reasons for overflow, and it checked fine. When I blew air to the water level switch it did shut of the water valve but could not hear any click. I use the warm water wash and saw the hot and cold-water valves cycle off and on to make the warm water and worked fine. Could a water valve have a random sticking problem or is there something else to check or you think it's a random problem in the water level switch because it does not click?
On this particular type, the water level sensor is part of the control board. You can try replacing the water control level hose to see if that fixes the issue. That is my next step. I can put the machine in drain and spin, and the machine switches over to that mode. The tub spins, and the water drains out. But it will not switch out of the sensing mode.
I changed the shift actuator and inlet valves. It goes through every cycle during the automatic test mode. No lights come on during diagnosis mode. However, when it starts a load it doesn't sense. It fills with water then drains it all out. I've calibrated it as well. The pressure switch hose is clear with no leaks.
The only other thing I can think of is that the pressor sensor on the board is not working. At that point, you may want to decide if it is worth it (if it helps, I have found a lot of good boards on eBay for cheap)
Great Video. Thank You. I have a Maytag that I changed Washer Drive Hub Kit. Instruction Sheet says I should Recalibrate Machine. I can not get it into that mode so I just ran washer and it is working. Any advice? Thank You Again.
Recalibration mode is the same as diagnostic mode, except you just keep going until the "rinse" light is lit up and hit play. Honestly, if you can't figure it out it's most likely okay. You really didn't replace any electronic components, so it shouldn't require a recalibration.
I hate that rotten companies won't make a simple machine that simply has a start and stop switch. The more sophisticated they get the worse they are. All it needs to wash clothes is a start and stop button, anything else is bullshit.
Hi, it seems the washer fills with water and then stops there, seems to make a slight humming noise like it's trying to do something.. I was able to get it to finish everything last night play unplugging it and hitting started a few times etcetera but today it's acting up again... Do you think this might be the actuator? The lid lock also releases snd flashes....
I have a question, I bought my whirlpool washer at a habitat, it washes great but the issue is, it is not sensing the level of clothes in the machine, it’s filling up the machine with water with a small amount of clothes… what do you suggest I do
Do you have a Facebook page or somewhere I can ask you a question. I have a Whirlpool that does all the cycles however at spin it spins ...all water is drained, you can hear the drum coming to an end but it goes back to spin and won't skip to Done. I already bought and installed new timer and it didn't fix problem. Any suggestions?
Most likely, it is the actuator, but it is impossible to tell without taking a look at it or putting it in diagnostic mode. Luckily, the actuator is cheap, and it may be worth it to just replace it and see what happens.
Great video!!! I reset my Maytag Bravos, it seems to go through all of the cycles now, but there's a clicking during the wash and rinse cycles. No clicking during the spin and draining, assuming not a belt issue. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I just received my replacement lid lock switch from Amazon. It was in the locked position and the lid would not close upon installation and reassembly. It put it in test mode and nothing. It will not do anything. I plugged the old one back in and it is doing the same as before. So I believe I got a bad switch.
@DuctTapeMechanic I am getting E7F1 erorr and after changing the agitator now, it stays on sensing mode, makes some humming noise, and comes back to lid light blinking. Tried diagnosis again and couldnt finish it i guess, it stucks with blinking lid light. Please guide. What could be the potential fix? Thanks.
I replaced the shifter actuator its still doing the same thing.. i had a question, i made sure i matched the number on the one on amazon and they still sent me on with a different number seems to be exaclty the same. Will that cause it not to work? And also how do i recalibrate it?
Hello, I have this washer on your video. I just replaced the door lock switch. I am getting no power. The only thing lit up is the green light. Behind the control board, there are no display lights. Please help. Thanks......
I replaced my shift actuator a few months ago and it worked fine. Now it is stuck in sensing mode again. I can hear clicking underneath. Is it possible it went out again? It won't even run the diagnostic
My maytag is stuck on sensing automatic test passed calibration passed I replaced the shifter actuator and recalibrate. I had no error codes before or after replacement rise works drain and fill works but when in any of the wash modes no water is added tub rotates a few times the stops and sensing stays lit up. Diagnostic mode the sensing light just flashes. I think the control board is bad but I'm not sure.
Hi you were one of the best with the most discriptive videos I’ve come across but I do have the exact same washer but mine stopped it’s cycles and the lid lock switch was locked when my daughter tried to take the clothes out my son told me when she told him he tried to open the lock by pushing the lock mechanism open but couldn’t get it so I don’t know if that also mess up the slide part of the lock I have not replaced that but the first thing I did replace was the switch lock which the light was blinking before I opened the back up to get the washer lid open after replacing the switch lock it didn’t seem to make a difference so I replaced the shift actuator and it still didn’t fix it. So I bought a new hub because another video said that it may be stripped and slipping underneath but when I got it off it didn’t look perfect so I bought another one but didn’t put it on yet because it didn’t look like the part/shaft under there was moving I did pull the motor and try to test the ohm resistance but it seemed to have good values according to another video I did return/exchange the first new switch lock and get another one put that in and still no luck. The lock does not lock still I hope you have an answer for me hopefully an easy and cheap one thanks
What If it gets stuck when it’s time to rinse. The pump still works. Just won’t shift to the rinse cycle and soapy water stays in it ? Until you toggle around with it ?

Found the washer stopped in the middle of a wash cycle. So it's full of water. Unplugged the washer for several minutes. Plugged it in and turned on the power. Tried to start it and it locks and unlocks immediately. Sensor light flashing. No movement of the barrel or agitator at all. Now I'm just trying to figure out the best was way to drain it so I can start troubleshooting.

I performed the Diagnostic Mode on my Maytag washer (twice to be sure) and both times the only light flashing is the sensing light (all the way to the left) which is the “F” code. Since there are no other flashing lights, I’m trying to figure out what that finding indicates. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help!
Never mind… 🤣 Turns out that a road crew hit a water line so the water was turned off on our street! I have saved your video and will refer to it if/when my washer ever malfunctions. Thanks! 😊
My brand new whirlpool washer would not move past sensing mode. Customer Service gave me this trick: First cancel the load, then Press Start, Press it again and Hold 3 seconds. My machine then ran a wash cycle. Pretty ridiculous to have to do this, but it worked for me.
I would definitely swap it with a different one. Unfortunately most of the other brands have there own issues as well (especially GE). I would try my luck with another WP
I have a whirlpool top load washer that is only 2 years old and the other day I noticed a screeching noise while the washer was on the spin cycle and now the washer will fill but it will not switch into the wash or spin cycle all it will do is sense and then after a few minutes the green lights go off and the washer drains but it does not wash them or spin them out. I am trying to determine the problem and I am not good and fixing appliances. Lol! Please help???
There are really only two types of whirlpool actuators a red one and a black one. The back one is more common (part number W10913953). Both are available on Amazon
What if its stuck in sensing but the lock light doesnt come on at all. Also wheb I try to recalibrate it the start button seems to not be doing anything
Ok I put the machine in test mode, and it was fine, then in Manual mode, everything fine, but when I tried to run it , the sensing light come on and it does nothing, I put a lid lock, Actuator, and cam,...nothing! Only work right when in test mode..must be a bad board 😢, so I'm I right? Oh the water valve work fine.
I just had this problem too. Finally it started working after I held the start button for about 5 seconds. Then the lid locked and everything started working. Tricky little sensor but its making alot of noise.
@@fredc8618 there is a recalibration procedure in the tech sheet that is located in the front panel of your washer (it is a straight forward procedure). If you can not find a tech sheet I would search maytag washer recalibration on TH-cam.

Never mind… 🤣 Turns out that a road crew hit a water line so the water was turned off on our street! I have saved your video and will refer to it if/when my washer ever malfunctions. Thanks! 😊
My washer won’t agitate in heavy and regular mode, but it will agitate in casual mode, do you have any idea what the problem could be ? Thanks
Very strange.... I would replace mode shifter and see if the clutch is not sticky
@@DuctTapeMechanic thank you so much , I’ll try that !
Thank you I'm a widow and everything is going out. My heat my air my dryer my washer. This was a very good video for me I could do it myself.
It was supposed to say I wish I could do it myself but I can't
I have a question the washer won't start everytime I press the start button it blinks twice and won't do anything can you please help me with that?
My whirlpool washer will only fill water and agitate in spin rinse mode. Will not fill in sensing mode. Any ideas? Thanks
My brand new whirlpool washer would not move past sensing mode. Customer Service gave me this trick: First cancel the load, then Press Start, Press it again and Hold 3 seconds. My machine then ran a wash cycle. Pretty ridiculous to have to do this, but it worked for me.
Brand new WP, all these issues and finding new ones (cant make it STOP)...should exchange with another brand? Thanks
I would definitely swap it with a different one. Unfortunately most of the other brands have there own issues as well (especially GE). I would try my luck with another WP
How do you find the code translations? I am getting sensing, rinse, spin, done. Done.
I made a video detailing how to translate the code into an alpha numerical value
I have this whirlpool, so where is the lint filter I’m guessing that’s what it’s called and how do I clean it ect?
No lint filter on a washer
I have a whirlpool top load washer that is only 2 years old and the other day I noticed a screeching noise while the washer was on the spin cycle and now the washer will fill but it will not switch into the wash or spin cycle all it will do is sense and then after a few minutes the green lights go off and the washer drains but it does not wash them or spin them out. I am trying to determine the problem and I am not good and fixing appliances. Lol! Please help???
Screeching noise is a bit odd but you may want look at the clutch/shifter actuator
After changing out the shift actuator the sense error persisted. Changed out the water valves and now it's working just fine.
Nice! Good work!
What causes problem #1?
Very informative but if my washer mother board is out i mind as well buy a new one. Just my preference
Yes sometimes that is the best choice!
Most used washers can sell for approx $200, and the part may cost $250.00. If you can't fix it with a low cost part it may be time to junk it.
Where is the part # on the ACTUATOR ?
There are really only two types of whirlpool actuators a red one and a black one. The back one is more common (part number W10913953). Both are available on Amazon
When did he hit the start button twice?
Thanks a million. you're a money saver.
You're welcome!
What if its stuck in sensing but the lock light doesnt come on at all. Also wheb I try to recalibrate it the start button seems to not be doing anything
did you figure out the issue? mine also will get stuck in sensing and my lid lock light doesn’t come on. but it will come on the drain and spin cycle
@CheerbyKrystin no I haven't. I ripped it all apart but couldn't figure anything out I still have no idea. So let me know if you figure it out
Thank you for everything.
Your welcome!
This was very helpful thank you very much 😊
You're welcome!
My whirlpool washer machine is stuck in sensing mode. Do you know how i can fix it
Well there are five potential fixes in this video!
I just had this problem too. Finally it started working after I held the start button for about 5 seconds. Then the lid locked and everything started working. Tricky little sensor but its making alot of noise.
I have this same machine and mines won’t even start the lock keeps clicking and the sensing button just blinks
Mine just buzzes or gets stuck in sensing mode might need to recalibrate it?
Yes try recalibration. It could be your clutch is stuck
@DuctTapeMechanic how do I fix or replace that? Thank you so much for your reply I have the exact machine your working on in the beginning
@@fredc8618 there is a recalibration procedure in the tech sheet that is located in the front panel of your washer (it is a straight forward procedure). If you can not find a tech sheet I would search maytag washer recalibration on TH-cam.
Are you in what city
Excellent video!!
My whirlpool cabrio starts fine but won't switch from wash the next cycle
Moat is likely it's the magnetic clutch that is bad
@DuctTapeMechanic thanks for the info, next question is how do you fix that?
Thank you, this helped me!
Awesome! Glad to help!
Fantastic video, really man.
Appreciate the support!
I had this problem but now, the sensing isn’t even working is it the same problem or something more complicated?
What is it doing now? Just flashing the lid lock light?
It’s not doing anything now not even the lid lock
@DuctTapeMechanic for me, yes. After changing the agitator now, it stays on sensing mode, makes some humming noise, and comes back to lid light blinking.
What could be the potential fix? Thanks.
Where are U located?
