  • Learn how to fix a Kenmore 500 series high efficiency washer that is stuck in the sensing mode and will not advance to the wash cycle. The machine in the video is model number 110.25132411 however, the principals apply to any top loader Kenmore or Whirlpool machine that has an autosense feature. Video is part of my series "Free on Facebook" in which I repair, recycle, and repurpose things that would be otherwise destined for the trash heap.
Link on how to put washer into diagnostic mode:

Thank you for posting this video. You speak well, and you walk others through the process. 5 STARS to you. Mine started doing this last Saturday. The day before Father's Day. I love the old school products that I grew up on. I purchased this washer brand new in 2017. It is on its 3rd residence with me. Lol. This is the FIRST issue with this washer. I work in construction. We use the washer EVERYDAY. We'll, except Saturday and Sunday. I am about to find this part and Get Er Done. 😂

We got rid of our old Maytag (probably built late 80s) washer/dryer and we wish hadn’t. Our house came with this set in the video and washer stopped filling night before I had jury duty! Clothes I was gonna wear were in there.
Anyhow we ordered the part and it came just in time as my Dad who has terminal cancer is visiting this coming week.
Thank you so much for posting this because it worked and saved us tons of $$$ I’m sure!

I have this model, and checking your input. Over the summer, the cycle wouldn't start, sometimes it would take minutes. It would sometimes screech before going to the next step (rinsing). We tried washing the machine with Tide, which actualy worked for 3 weeks, then the normal cycle stopped working. We then used the Casual and Express cycles (no issues) but now the casual cycle, would not start (or trying to start). We now are resorting to using express cycle (no issues for now)

Man i have the whirlpool wtw8127lc. We got it brand new in April, I've had nine different repairs done on it already. You read that correctly--NINE TIMES. The main board has been replaced twice, the last time the entire basin and washing tub assembly was replaced. I'm not a child, I know I'm not overloading the washer. Now it's stuck on sensing. I'm beyond fed up with this washing machine!! In the few months we've had it it's been more time being inoperable than it has functioning. Im still paying on the damn thing and we've spent more time waiting on repair appts and parts to come in than we've actually had it in working order. I don't know what the hell's going on with my particular unit this damn time, but I do know I will never ever purchase another Whirlpool in my life.

I had the issue it would sense then a quick hum then it would quit but stay in sense mode. I replaced actuator and still ddid this. I finally figured out that underneath there's a bundle of red wire zip tied to the frame and there's a butt connector where 3 wires meet. Mine was burned. Replaced it, back in business.

I have that same pos.. even if you set it on heavy duty and deep fill it doesn’t clean worth crap. It just moves back and forth 3/4 of a turn at a time never getting the cloths to roll down and up like our old one. What doe’s saving water have to do with the crap way it agitates? Why does it just move back and forth but never enough to get the stuff to move from the top to the bottom.

You should also mention that when it’s stuck in sensing mode if there is water in it the tub it’s the drain pump. Which is an easy fix under the unit 3 5 1/16 hex bolts remove disconnect drain hose and plug in a wire harness lol at least that’s how my whirlpool was I’m sure these smart wifi ones are a bit trickier. Gotta love the easy ones though.

Hi @DuctTapeMechanic I have a Kenmore 110.21392013 and I replaced the water inlet valve on it after it leaking disasterously all over my floor during washing. Now, it is stuck in sensing mode, not unlike this. It does start to fill with water, but it never progresses into the actual "wash" cycle or goes any futher than that.
Since you seem to have a lot of experience fixing various issues with washers, I was wondering: any insight on what else is wrong or where I could start? It's confusing to me, because this is a new issue.

If you machine flows water while set to hot water it is your water inlet screen clogged. Pull it out and clean it. Use needle nose pliers and it pulls out like a Cork. Screw all this diagnostic testing. Something so simple took me all day to troubleshoot. Hit like if it worked. I had mine stuck in sensing mode. Try this if just hot works.

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes you are absolutely correct. However if your valve solenoid is burned out like mine was cleaning the cold water valve screen won't do anything. So testing it is not that bad an idea. But yes, it is advisable to just take a look at the filter first (I actually gave this advice to someone in the comments a few days ago).

Seems like the exact problem I have. Time to get the meter out and test it. Preliminary test is going to do a hot only and a cold only test but I suspect if one is bad the computer will just detect a fault regardless. Time to get my meter involved. I hope this fixes it :) I'm at my with end and was considering kicking it to the curb and incurring a cost I'm not prepared for. Currently it goes to wash from sensing but doesn't do anything after that but display the wash light after it drains my water and detergent. This sucks.

Got a minor issue with my washer I can't figure out. Auto sensing and deep water wash are backwards. Set it on auto sense and it deep water washes, set it on deep water wash and it auto senses. The washer isn't that old, going on 3 years since I bought it and it didn't use to do that, only discovered it a few months ago. I've done everything from reset to auto calibration, every little diagnosis it offers and it still has this issue. I've checked wiring, the mainboard, switches, ect ect and can't find one problem. Not like I can't deal with it, there is obviously a work around setting the switch to do the opposite of what it shows, I'd just like to know why the heck it does it.

I have a Maytag that's stuck in the Sensing mode. It was working fine when I started to wash clothes on Sunday. I went out to walk my dog when I got back I heard a buzzing sound coming from the washer and it was stuck on the final rinse cycle. I tried the power/reset button to have to washer drain itself but it got stuck in the sensing mode with a buzzing. I unplugged the power and when I plugged it back in, I got the same result. The sound seems to be coming from the water valve area, so I'm thinking that it went bad. Most likely, you have bad suspension rods. Just search from a reputable online appliance part store by model number, and you should find the rods your machine requires. If your machine still bounces around after replacing the rods, then the inner tub is stripped, and the machine is beyond reasonable repair.

If water gets on the top part of the machine can it get into the panel? I had a hose that was a bit too short and it ended up coming loose and spraying water all over my laundry room. Now the washing machine won’t progress past the sensing fill light. Could it be water damage? I had a tech come out and he thought that I had some kind of clog. He charged me over $400 to just fix this small issue that I don’t believe was ever an issue! “The actuator” but My whirlpool washer is less than a year old! It doesn’t make sense to me that he would have to change that part so early on! Now he’s telling me that the entire panel will have to be replaced for over another $400!
