    I DO NOT COLLECT INFORMATION FROM CHILDREN
    I DO NOT ADVERTISE TO ENCOURAGE CHILDREN
    I DO NOT PROMOTE ANY OTHER CONTENT THAT COULD BE DIRECTED TO CHILDREN
    I DO NOT RUN MY CHANNEL TO MAKE ANY FINANCIAL GAIN FROM IT'S EXISTENCE
    THIS CHANNEL IS ABOUT MY HOBBY OF MODEL RAILWAYS.
    As Frank Hornby famously said, "British toys for British boys,. But what would we have done without the good old telly ad's to encourage us to buy more trains. Here's a few adverts I have scalped from other youtube user's, the quality of some isn't that good but when you consider the technology of the times I hope you will see these adverts as reminder of the way things used to be, there are several Hornby ad's, one for Tri-ang/Hornby, one for Lima, and the unforgettable Yellow Pages ad, with a young boy trying to find a Signal box For His Dad's birthday. So sit back and relax and enjoy.

    As the creator of many of the Hornby tv commercials, i am so pleased to see them still being enjoyed. I chose Bernard Cribbins as the ' tiny man' as he was then famous for being in a film called The Railway Children, ( he was also my fishing mate. )

    • @Markintheshed
      @Markintheshed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      About Bernard Cribbins, I always thought that a trick was missed, the opening shot could have been him coming out of a hole in the ground, as it is they were always brilliant, and formed part of my childhood, many thanks , Mark

    I had to chuckle when one of the first adverts mentioned train sets from only £5.00’s. That was half a weeks wages for a lot of people in the early 1960’s. I was lucky enough to receive a Blue Pullman train set for Christmas in 1965 and it cost my father £5.00. Great video. I remember Bernard Cribbins doing those adverts he was marvellous with children.

    sad to think that now a days these are long gone, the loft is now a bedroom or the house is so tiny or not big enough for a basic train set that kids can't play with them, unless they buy a big house but that costs money, plus the loft is too small or isn't big enough like in the old days, that or its too hot or not usable as its got itchy fibers in it to keep the house warm and costs low, that or the toys are too pricey, sad really

    Yes some of these adverts bring back memories.... Steel tracks that were a bugger to join and if you used too much pressure the fishplates would twist or become loose, fall off and disappear up Mums vacuum cleaner. Controllers that you needed to be a safecracker to operate otherwise your train was guaranteed to derail at the first bend that it encountered. Unless your parents were loaded and could afford one of the top Hornby Train Sets the lower end sets never lived up to the hype of the TV adverts and your interest was guaranteed to wane come Boxing Day after watching it go round and round in a circle all day and do little else.

    There are a few factors in diy railroad layouts. One place I discovered which successfully combines these is the Jareks Hobby Club (google it if you're interested) it's the best blueprint that I've seen. look at the unbelievable information .

    I don't deal in Hornby anymore. Not for a time. The build those crappy Hitachi 800 ugly Azuma's class. I prefer my Athearns GP 40-2 Rocky Mountaineer loco. I also deal in Atlas & Kato American stuff! Much better than the British stuff.
