We're getting there - it meant that they're getting closer to a relative "perfection"... Of course they're always "getting there"! No one's bloody perfect!
"We're getting there" was an acknowledgement by British Rail that the cvomnpany was something of a national joke. But they were at least trying. There's a tendency, particularly by those too young to remember how poor British Rail really was as a service, to view the company with rose tinted glasses. Old carriages, poor food, poor time keeping. Modern trains are at least clean, bright and comfortable.
Often if I'm going into Glasgow from London i'll choose the East Coast Mainline over the pendolinos up to Edinburgh and go across. Seats are more comfortable, the air in the carriages is pleasant, more leg room. And that's just the old trains being more pleasant. Euston vs Kings X? Euston, the more modern station of the two has had zero effort on being pleasant put into it. It's basically a grey dingy warehouse inside with no natural light. KingsX is a bright and cheerful station with nice details in the architecture.. Modern is not always an improvement IMO
@pss1967 lol its funny you should say that because my boss used to say the same thing....shame i hadent remembered these adverts at the time as i would have, had some real smart answers for him loool!
You guys keep bashing the British rail network. If you ask me, the British passenger rail network is actually better than Amtrak. And besides, BR got there when they introduced the InterCity 125.
Thanks for the analysis! HOWEVER, you still have it pretty good & youre still bloody lucky compared to the rest of the world! Youre another whinger! lol!
good old britsh rail way wish the turn it bk to britsh rail then all profits could be pumed bk into the rail way instead of having to use tax payers money it make sence that is way the govermeant whant do it cose it be to simple

We're getting there...eventually
Biblical Broadcasting if its not delayed due to the wrong kind of snow
Ah i believe that’s the anthem of transpennine express
We're getting there - it meant that they're getting closer to a relative "perfection"... Of course they're always "getting there"! No one's bloody perfect!
Legend says that we still haven’t got there
The quickest way to get in and out of town... Unless said town is Whitby
Savage scenes when the Whitby train swaps passengers - every man for himself
Whenever my boss says we're getting there, I remind him that British Rail said that and look what happened to them...........

it looked like the engine was tipping going round the bends lol
I agree with you!!!
@mrmattfield21 Er, yes they can actually - the latest figures showed 92.4% punctuality!
Is that a Pacer representing the best of rail?! Talk about a statement on road travel!
not it wasn't a bloody pacer, some kind of 50s era 3rd rail EMU
@@TheOnlyTYRE it's a refurbished class 411 (4cep) used mainly on Kent 3rd rail commuter lines up to around the early 2000s.
Is the voiceover by Hywel Bennett?
Haha, this reminds me of Grand Theft Auto 3. :-D
Totally agree with you, Bloody Thatcher and Major and Lamont.@SONBoomer

i dont think anyone has ever accused amtrak of being even close to on par with br ever
British Rail.
Faster than Popeye Doyle!
Why did they need to state that the connection to the French Connection is intentional?
'We're getting there' Hmmm..., seems like the slogan FCC should adopt
Because they never did.
First Crapital Disconnect
Which is safe car or train. I’d say Train.
@screammac sorry - translate, please! 'Skwisse' - is that even a word?
Not to mention that the BR is over now!
Thanks, conservatives! Thanks a fucking lot!
Don't speak too soon, GBR Great British Railway is taking over from Network Rail from 2023,
@@scottpeacock5492 GBR will still be robbing the taxpayers/farepayers blind with subsidies to the privateer leeches.
@@scottpeacock5492 Lets bring back uk based industry, too.
And nationalised energy suppliers aswell as uk run industry.
