Lovely to see the ads I remember from the 80's.
Agreed
R.I.P Bernard Cribbins star of many of the late 1970's early 1980's Hornby adverts.
You guys should bring back the "Nothing goes like it, Nothing grows like it" song back for new adverts! It definitely would catch on!
It is catchy
Yessssssssss >v
@@Crosby2016 and also meme fuel.
just screams 80s
Errr no
2:23 Absolute classic. Finally got the signal box within the last year 😂
Its only one of two in this video I can actually remember seeing!
Totaly agree....great add..
I have an old triang station
I love the Hornby Adverts. In truth, Hornby has made some of the best train sets in the 1980's and 1990's and I would love to see them make more epic sets in the future. Thanks for sharing these!
Peter.
These adverts take me to the 80's, the Yellow Pages advert will always be my favorite, Andy
I loved the yellow pages ad when ever it came on, and I still have that R186 signal box that I made my dad buy for his layout because of this advert.
There was another version where the dad thanked his son. I'm guessing that this was an afterthought edit after they received feedback asking why he didn't thank his son in the original version. Incidentally, the father was played in this edit by Colin Bennett - Mr bennett from "Take Hart" and "Hartbeat".
@@kevinrussell2718 I always thought how ungrateful the ad. made the Father appear in relation to the Son's effort and kindness, seemingly not a team of "Ad. creatives" that had much understanding of feelings or relationships.🤔
Yellow pages advert that was the advert that got me into the hobby many years later and I still am loved it.
the fact they even included the thomas and friends range adverts is a absolute W
Wonderful video! "A complete train set for under £5" - those were the days!
But your Pearnts. on Weekly wages in those Days ! Was !??
Great trip down memory lane to Christmas past
Great to see all of those old Ads, brings back some wonderful memories
5:20-5:22 who knew anyways was being said back then
The 4:18 one I remember as a kid. I would love to see a track plan for the "then I got serious" layout!
The 5:21 one is my favourite though. Like all the Hornby adverts from either around or before that time, they showed train sets and model railways to be FUN! Something that's lacking these days with the never ending quest for higher detailed, more intricate and sound fitted models, though I accept the motors are better.
Love the 6:32 advert as well, I still have my super sound box somewhere! 😂
I remember seeing these on youtube as a kid :>
Personally, my favourite is "Nothing goes like it, Nothing grows like it"
It's great seeing all of the old Ads again. I can remember getting the Hornby catalogue and dreaming
Charming - happier times, I keep revisiting this video✌️😊💜
Great to see these ads again. Thanks for re-showing them Hornby
2:23. I loved seeing that ad - I dreamed about having that set in the roof space. (I already had the signal box!)
I love the old hornby Thomas ads , I remember watching them as a young kid on TH-cam
Brings back memories of Christmas past!
I love the Bernard cribbins adverts 😍
You should do some more adverts again. I love watching them and there's not enough ads like this on TV nowadays
Thanks for uploading the old hornby tv ads.
For me that have grown up whith the model railway and
now rediscover the hobby it gives me a great ideas as to witch
layout and type of locos and roling stock i will chose from.
Hornby has that choice that suit my needs perfectly.
👍👍👍👍🇸🇪🇸🇪
love this old classic hornby with mail set and the frieghliner crane.
I loved the adds pity they were not in full screen size.I remember the Bernard Cribbins and Yellow Pages ones.Great video thanks.
I’m so happy that you guys remembered your Hornby Thomas line. I really hope you continue it for the 80th anniversary when you get back the licensing
I remember getting my first set for Christmas, shared with my brother as it cost £4/19/6. That was a lot of money back in the early 60’s. I just loved seeing these old adverts. Bringing back such memories linking with the Mimic Motorways at a later stage. Now in my 70’s my passion is still steam, but the difference in quality and variety is a youngsters dream. Maybe the Playtrains range will encourage modellers if the future.
staying with the old fashion tv all the way through spoilt it with me. should have gone full screen
Just great memories
Bernard cribbins got me into Hornby train sets when I was a lad 😍
Ah back in the 90’s at Christmas time ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I remember several of those!
Especially the Bernard Cribbins ones!
My 11 year old son is jealous that a train set started at £5. I now have to give a lesson on economics and inflation! 🤣🤣
Brilliant - Bernard 🚄🚝🚂❤️❤️
Great to see the old adverts 😁
I remembered seeing the adverts in the 2000s not much really, but my father did buy my first ever Hornby set called 'The rambler' for Christmas
i remember seeing 3 Hornby adverts back in the day like 2000 2003 and 2006... I miss seeing Hornby adverts on TV...
The Minic set with Jaguar E type and Mercedes brings back memories - the Mercedes was better at staying on the track at speed.
I never saw any of these old adverts, except maybe the odd Thomas & Friends one. However, you've inspired me to possibly upload a Bachmann Branchline advert of my own. It'll be something children of all ages will want to see. What am I thinking of? Wait and see.
my favourite is nothing grows like it and that is coming from a guy who loves the Hornby Thomas adverts
great video..you missed one off perhaps your best the live steam one with sean beans voiceover..fantastic ...def bring back nothing goes like it nothing grows like it really catchy..thanks for the memories!
my favorite Hornby ads is the stuck car one
Should bring the ads back too tv they are great
4:34 RIP Bernard Cribbins, we will all miss you so much -_-
I would love to see the Hornby Thomas range come back because they've gone up in price. Cool seeing the original adverts again after so long.
really unlikely, i believe bachmann own the thomas rights now
@@FlyingRabbitMedia I know Bachmann owns the US rights, do they own the UK rights as well?
@@joesSONICBOOM i think so, not entirely sure
@@joesSONICBOOM Yes.
@@danielsellers8707 Thanks mate
3:26 3:56 Thomas and Friends are the Legendary Hornby sets 🚂🛤️
4:36 i need to recreate that when i get around to finishing my layout
whoever composed the nothing grows with it song needs a raise
Remember the Thomas one on CITV after school.
Yellow Pages ad was iconic!
Easy to see here, why Hornby, as a company, is as valuable as the iconic Steam Locomotives, that have thankfully been saved, by the 🔔
I had the £5 set first one I got for Xmas 😍
Interesting - I like the 1 where Bernard Cribbing get 'shrunk'!!! 😉🚂🚂🚂
Furry bridge ahhhhhhhhhh 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 classic
Gess it's the last one NOW!
I had loads of Minic motorways track, including track that had railway lines in.
MM was brilliant, had that fire engine and the black Rolls Royce as well as the E-type and 190SL set. Loved the interaction with the railways
My recollection started from Yellow pages ad.
Real ones remember "Hornby Adverts!"
Triang Hornby advert, The Yellow Pages and the Thomas the tank engine adverts are my personal favourites.
6:33
My Favourite Part
5:03 good thing that hst didn’t have a flywheel!
Great to see hornby TV adds from the past why don't they advertise on TV now
I Love Hornby Railways
And we love you too Derrick!

Such shame that the Thomas and friends line was discontinued, was really good
Good to see the old adverts but a poor decision not to show them full screen
5:05 classic train set😢
You know the ads are good when even usa folks want hornby
I vaguely remember the Thomas the tank engine adverts and adverts from the mid to late 2000s
i remember all those adverts apart from the very first one
7:03 *yes*
You guys gotta bring back the nothing grows like it nothing goes like it advertisement
Yellow pages advert where the best
3:56 I saw that ad in 2008 it re-aired
R186 signal Box for Dad's brithday.
Done!
Hello Hornby! Can I ask are you still making/creating the virgin trains Pendolino train available from your website?
i remember the thomas ads
Bernard Cribbins ads! RIP
I loved the adverts for Thomas cause I’m a huge fan of Thomas the Tank Engine
Recognise a few of these.
Done 😃😃
The mallard the star they’ve got some powa powa a big pair of eyes but a Hornby HST nothin can catch me catch me catch me
The one major criticism I have of these adverts is that they presume that model railways is a hobby for men and boys only. Women and girls are excluded. True, it started that way in view of the times we lived in back then, but surely it's time to be fully inclusive? To those out there who are already doing this, well done. To those who arent, make a start.
I’m surprised that I’ve been able to live on a diet of paint stripper and modelling glue for over 5 years. Help.
1:22
Done :)
I wish hornby would go back and make thomas products
I don't play with Hornby anymore. I prefer my Athearns Rocky Mountaineer GP 40-2 in I've upgraded to DDC with sound. Nice
From when they were made in Britain not China...
You need to have ads now
"I just got this Thomas and Bertie set for my birthday... then, I got serious" Bit of a below the belt insult to people who like to model Thomas the Tank Engine, Hornby?
I cant believe it used to cost £5
Done
U missed a couple the live steam ones witch was in my opinion the only really descent one the rest where God awful mind u so was what thay made at the time lol
Where's the cat?
Try showing the ads properly.
Can't get nothing for a fiver now.
The England I Iong for
Would have been nice in full screen not it the fake old tv it’s just silly and spoiled the video
WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, shame they arent the same cost. Nearly all train fans are captivated when they are children, standing on platforms with mums and dads. Could you imagine today a child buying a signal box with pocket money now? The hobby is dead, going the same way as harley davidson. Why so expensive when its made In china?
