He presents training in 7 days. Each of 7 items are commands that he believes a dog should know. They are presented in part ii of the book th-cam.com/users/postUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq . The parts of the guideare divided: part i know your dog part ii the seven commands part iii cures for 7 behavior problems. Each chapter presents a topic, a dog's story, and a "what to do". It was written simply and you can jump from chapter to chapter to review anything as needed.

This series has been life-changing. My dog is a 60 lb Catahoula/pit mix rescue. She's had MAJOR behavior and reactivity issues. My dog even started exhibiting more aggressive behavior after she was introduced to a prong collar. While all training must have consistency, utilizing Zak's methods allowed me to see every minute as a training session because it's practical and makes sense. Training this dog has been harder than raising a kid. The trainer told me not to use a harness but it works so much better for her! The trainer told me NOT to walk or play with her before our sessions so he could always observe her at her worst. That didn't make sense to me. My dog started not wanting any leash or lead. She knew it meant "training time." Now she's been bringing me the leash for last week just begging to go out to explore the world (and doing so in a much more socially acceptable manner). Thanks, Zak.

Melissa I agree with you. Zak is a good trainer. Some tactics take longer than others. Also, it is ok to employ every tool you need to, as long as you are working with the dog . I had to have my beautiful pit mix euthanized a few weeks ago because she got away from me and attacked a dog. I regularly worked on her reactivity to dogs from the time she was a puppy. I had 2 different trainers, with the second being an expensive ecollar program. The ecollar trainer told me to rely on the ecollar, but I had to run her with a harness, the ecollar and a star mark pinch collar to keep her from pulling me over. I also went early in the morning to avoid seeing any other dogs. It was something that I couldnt train out of her.
I am now fostering-to-adopt a Shepherd-Lab mix from the shelter who thankfully is not dog reactive. But she is reactive to men. Zack's tactics are working with her. It is slow and steady.

The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

Your patience and humaneness is incredible! Your perspective in working with dogs could help parents with their children. I'm not equating children with dogs, but learning how to interpret behaviors, learning how not to take it personal -work with it, breaking things down into steps...so many benefits for parent training....not equating parents with dogs either. But honestly, many parents could use your classes and benefit!

I'd really love to see you work more with smaller dogs (aside from the one-off videos you have.) A lot of people don't bother with training small dogs which is how so many turn into yappy little nightmares. I've got a small puppy now, and I'm trying to train her, but not everything translates well to a smaller package.

    • @janhankins911
      @janhankins911 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Yes, I'd like to see Zak work with a small dog, as well. We now have a small breed dog and I'm finding I've had to adjust my training a lot. I've found it's actually easier (physically) to train a larger dog. Training my itty-bitty, I'm bending, stooping, and sitting on the floor much more often. And my itty-bitty doesn't seem to be "getting" the entire concept of house training and I never had a problem with the big dogs grasping the concept of "go outside to pee/poop".

I train dogs with the positive reinforcement training methods, and I love to hear you say why you prefer to use them over force, corrections, or negative consequences. You are truly training the dog when it figures out for itself that it is better to pay attention to you instead of reacting to its surroundings or other living things. I have loved this series. Thank you for taking on such a challenging dog so that people like me can learn how to train them with positive training methods!

I really love the way you train her. It takes a lot of effort, but you can see the steps forward she makes. Very clever girl. Lots of small steps, make a huge step and therefor difference! I read she got adopted, briljant job Zak👌

    Hey zak,
Just watched this newest episode! Moira is looking awesome! You did a great job on her bath training and showed that patience and working through each situation with your dog will always be the most rewarding method and can yield wonderful results! Thank you so much for making these videos and for helping each dog have it's best chance at a wonderful life alongside us humans :)

Zak, your energy is infective, I wish you were the 'rona of this world. Your videos are informative and you draw pet parents in such a calming way. I always feel like I can get my Sugar to understand what I ask and I can understand where he's at to tailor his training to his speed! Thank you for these vids.

I love mixing training with play. Play is a great reinforcer for good behavior and it gives dogs a small mental break from the hard work of learning. And I really admire Zak for taking Moira on and training her in two weeks. I have taken on many dogs like Moira, I don't give myself two weeks only! I am, by no means, a professional dog trainer, but I can't imagine having a two-week "deadline" for this type of training.

I love your patience with hyperactive dogs like moira. She needs a person who is disciplined, athletic or equally energetic. Pray she gets adopted by such a family. Every animal is like a toddler and an individual human being with individual personality. I personally don't like any harsh treatment or punishments for adults let alone kids and animals. Moira is so lively and your interaction with her was fun to watch. So thank you.

We have a high energy & reactive dog & it's been quite overwhelming & even disheartening at times. Progress has been slow but she's getting some things down pat (woo!). This has honestly been my favourite of all dog training series I've watched. Your patience is amazing & you've done so well

Have I mentioned how much I love this series??!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Zak, Bree and Moira! Patience, play, tricks...a dead fish, what could be better? And, I have learned to try the long leash for my reactive pups to give them space for play and not just training while we are out addressing their reactivity. Also, loving following Moira on Instagram!

Hi Zac, this series has been fantastic in helping my reactive dog. Indy. He's a small cavachon but wow this is helping so much. I don't know if it's me but it does take a while to find the right episodes. So hopefully I will be able to find it easily enough.

this is exactly how I feel with my pup pup, OVERWHELMED! felt so validated when Zak said it. now, on to watch the rest of the video, and hopefully learn some skills because the lunging and barking is negatively effecting my relationship with my puppy! (a rescue that I was told was a collie mix; I'm guessing more like a jack russell mix! super strong prey drive!!!) Thx Zak! 'preciate all these videos!

This is super helpful and encouraging-- thank you, Zak! I watch a lot of your videos and while they are helpful, I struggle to relate to them because honestly, Inertia seems like such an angel! She seems so easy to train? But Moira here is a lot like our own pupper -- reactive, energetic and stubborn. So it's super encouraging to us to see you make progress with her!
