      As a multiple working line GSD owner of many years, I know how real the struggle can be. Those prey instincts are STRONG. Shame pupbox doesn't distribute to Europe yet, but at least, I was able to get both of Zak's books delivered, just in time for my upcoming vacation. This channel is better than Netflix for sure.

    As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. Zak, I know many people commented this already, but this is your best series YET! It’s sooooo relatable, and just what we need to watch. To see an actually great dog with some REAL issues that we, dog parents, have to deal with and do it without harsh punishment at all and still get steady, continous progress! I mean, look ar the difference from when she started training. Well done, sir. And well done, Moira, of course. Would love to see her progress in the future.

    I love watching these series about big dogs because I feel they're the main ones that end up in shelters for completely fixable behaviors, but I would still like to see a series based on an older small breed dog.
    Problems like, aggression, socializing, separation anxiety, and other problems associated with the "small dog syndrome".

    • @silt59

      YES!!! My dachshund is 8 years and unfortunately wasn't really trained or socialized at all when he was younger, so he barks, lunges, and becomes totally uncontrollable when there are other dogs *anywhere in his sight* (however I can get him to calm down if we repeatedly walk past the same dogs in gardens for example, but any dogs that are on walks just *freak him out).* And he has separation anxiety (giving him treats whenever I/we go out does help and I don't think he barks or howls like he used to but he does become anxious and whines) and growls at touch (although he was basically *never* physically hit or anything, and he has had a lot of good experiences being stroked etc., but he is oddly uncomfortable with touch). I would love to see videos for a small dog more like him.

      Definitely loving the Moira and George series and would love to see him tackle small dog syndrome as I grew up with so many dogs over the years (different family members - parent, aunts, uncles, etc.) Who had unbreakable small dog syndrome. When he's ready of course, I know Indy's loss is going to take lots of time to heal from.

    I always enjoy your videos and still love the idea of positive only dog training, but I tried it with my dog for well over a year and he just didn’t respond or only responded with treats present and I could tell it made him so anxious. I tried group classes and private lessons with this approach, but nothing worked. I now have had to use a more balanced approach with the help of another trainer (third training program I’ve paid for which totals nearly 5k), but he is listening so much better and actually seems way more relaxed on walks with this most recent training. He still has a long way to go, but I’m thankful it’s slowly getting better.

    • @m.z.593
      @m.z.593 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Happy your dog is doing great. Positive reinforcement isn't only about treats and if your dog isn't aboit treats your trainer should have tried to find something else to do. Honestly the most important thing is to just use LIMA (Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive) if treats are aversive on't use them. I wish aou all the best

She is doing better now at the lunging/barking at dogs, but my puppy is still doing it. I hope when I apply these things you teach that it will help. Thanks for your videos. It also looked like your heart was welling up at the end

    • @janhankins911
      @janhankins911 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How old is your puppy and what size is your puppy? Does your puppy want to visit/play with other dogs or is he or she showing aggression? The answer to these questions will determine what you need to do and how much you can realistically expect from your puppy at this time. Young puppies aren't going to have the self-control an adult would have (nor can they develop it as quickly as an adult can). Young puppies need lots and lots of experience and the more experience you give them, the less likely they are to be overly excited and react. Smaller dogs may have "small dog syndrome" if they weren't well-socialized to larger dogs. That will need desensitization and counter-conditioning. But if your puppy is still pretty young, I wouldn't sweat it too much (unless he or she is showing aggression). Just socialize and give him or her lots of experience (even if the puppy embarrasses you--and if you stick to dog-friendly places, most people aren't expecting the puppy to behave an adult and will give puppies a break and they know you're doing the right thing for your dog, so don't be too embarrassed).

      Working with Great Danes and Irish Wolfhound rescue, we LOVE head collars (our favorite is the Gentle Leader). We use them very often. We get in adult Danes and Wolfhounds (these dogs can weigh between 125 and 200 pounds) that have never even been on a leash, much less leash trained. And if you have a very large male, say, and they want to go to the left, that's where you're gonna go. A head halter is often almost essential equipment some times.

    Shy dogs (regardless of reason) are so hard for us fosters to KNOW how to engage/interact with them! Hi Zac and Bree oh and Moira. Nice to see you progressing. The change up in behaviour at the end of the film was great to see. It came about because your reward had finally started to focus on providing a viable alternative behaviour. Earlier in these films the reward when it came. Always quickly became about control or human benefit tricks. In my opinion most dogs never find these rewards sufficient to compete with natural environmental distractions. It’s an observation not a criticism. Your content is great and l enjoy following you all. I would love to meet up if you ever come to the🇬🇧 Or in the unlikely event l ever get to the States. I love how moira is like "give me that god damn chicken"😂😂😂 But I love the idea of a compromise, this will work great in my training when I get my GSD. Thanks for the Tip

    Loved watching this one! I learned (years ago) with leash pops and corrections. I have somewhat moved away from that with treats. From now on I will be training with redirection and connection. Hard to break patterns for both humans and dogs. Thanks for sharing!

      PS: My heart dogs are GSDs but because they have such a bad reputation, I want to make sure the dogs I have are good breed ambassadors.

      @@debk6598 that is great. Just be aware that when you are using positive reinforcement it might not always work, not because positive reinforcement doesn't work, but because it isn't always easy to do it right so don't get discouraged:) for some great channels check out kikopup and simpawtico dogtraining:)

    This serious is so helpful! You’re definitely the best dog trainer I’ve seen be realistic and helpful. I wanted to know how I can get my dog trained/helped by you I am located in Georgia. She’s a 1 year old puppy who suffers with separation anxiety and more. Please let me know how I can make that happen. I just want what’s best for my fur baby with training and more

    i trained my border collie puppy, kai for like idk about 3-4 days? and i just got really unmotivated so i stopped but ive seen so much progress, its crazy. he can ignore others, he stopped running outside like basically teasing about running away and his recall is getting so much better

    Uau you did a wonderful job training Moira! And the relationship of trust between the two of you really shows :)
    I have a question about training a dog, and would be great if anyone could share some insights: for someone who's living in a country that not their homecountry, should we train the dog in that country's language or in our maternal language?
    Thank you!

      I don't have personal experience with this. But my thought is that if your dog is interacting with people who don't speak your native language (vet/dog sitter/etc) it could be problematic. I think it's probably best to choose whatever language is spoken by those who will be interacting with the dog. Or at least the basics (sit stay come etc). And maybe save a few special tricks (non life saving ones) in your native language

    I love the harness that Moira wears. It's simple and it gives her plenty of freedom of movement. I've been looking for something similar in the UK but everything seems to be heavy and restrictive. I want to make my young border collie a simple webbing harness. Are all the straps on Moira's harness adjustable?

    My two golden doodles are 2 and one will be 3 in August. I’d like to teach them the door trick and a few others. I know it’s not “within the first year” but it’s certainly not too late to teach them these things, right? They know a handful of tricks but I’d like to focus on more important ones. Thanks!
