    I've never read a book so fast! th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU Learning about his dogs and experiences was just the icing on the cake - bed this book through and through. We're working with our new pup and Brandon's advise was just what I needed. Wish he'd just come and train for me haha but it's good for us and happy to have this new set of tools to use on our pup.

    Wonderful episode again 👍 Why hasn't any baseball manufacturers jumped at the opportunity to use George as their posterboy 😅😅 " The Ball you can't take your eyes off" 😁😆

    I love watching the bullies get the spotlight for all the right reasons! I have a bully mix that has been accused of being aggressive for doing the same play jumping as George did with the baseball, when all he wants is to play and be a puppy having fun!

    I love that at 2:29 as you're bouncing the baseball & talking about his love of it, George comes trotting around the corner like he's been summoned 😂⚾️💚🖤💚

    So nice to see what many would consider a "stubborn" or "willful " breed respond so positively to positive reinforcement. No need to "dominate" or force compliance.

    • @richardcope9803
      @richardcope9803 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Zak, if you do a wrap-up video can you talk about any struggles you may have faced that were breed specific? George is so great, but I think it would be great for those considering a bully-type breed to know what they may have to deal with.

    It's really impressive how responsive George is to your 'no' and 'leave it alone' commands, I know you ideally want him to be listening to you in the first instance but I remember the episode where you first introduced him to that concept and now he's even listening to that command from you when it comes to his absolute favourite thing in the entire world, his ball!

      @Geoffrey454 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking the same thing, and it's probably because he doesn't use it all the time or devalue his firm tone by using it for no good reason, unlike some trainers who use a lot of far harsher corrections and just end up desensitizing dogs to general correction, or causing other issues with confidence, drive, fear or aggression.

    Loving these reality series! Would love to see you working with an anxious/timid dog. The kind that runs away with tail between the legs instead of lunging at… They tend to get overlooked in shelters too because they try to hide from people and don’t win them over compared to the outgoing dogs. Thanks for all the effort you put in to helping people with their dogs

    Best like always! Ather teens idols are singers or actors or models,your mine! Your the first force free trainer that is that great and passionate about it! Not only taught me how to improve my dog but helped me not be being too tough on myself,you taught me that sometimes taking a step backwards it's okay,and it's okay to do mistakes. I realized I was being way to rough on myself due to the misinformation on social media. "How I fixed my dog issues within 5 minutes" "train your dog not to be reactive in a day". Thank you so much for being honest and showing your mistakes.

    Wow this episode showed that George has a mind of steel! Even though his fixation with the baseball is sooo intense that he stops when you say, "No"! He definitely is toy driven and he wants that ball but he still listens to you! Another fantastic episode watching him restrain himself when the baseball is presented in fron of him. Also, awatching him jump the hurdlew was super fun! Thank You for another wonderful episode!

    I think someone played with George with a baseball when he was a puppy . He seems to have been animated to play with it with the same words that are now meaning he should not run to that ball . It is very sad that no one can know what he has learned already , before he went to the shelter . :-( But a really great success , congrats and thumbs up !

    Teaching a dog to jump is great! But a cautionary note. Be sure that your dog is healthy before you start increasing the jump's height. Second, be sure your dog is old enough to jump higher heights. How old will that be? Depends on the dog. Smaller dogs will probably be okay at about 1 year of age. Danes and Wolfhounds? I won't start raising bar height for Danes and Wolfhounds until they are 2.5 YEARS of age. Your vet can give you a good idea of when it's okay to increase bar height. But even young puppies can learn the concept of "jump". They just can't jump very high until they are fully grown and their growth plates are closed.

    Wooo you are being challenged hehe. I have had a similar issue with a newfoundland who could not resist carrying the adopted hedgehog with one amputated leg around. Ronja (her name) was a search and rescue dog. It ended with "wanna go see hedgy?" became a great enforced during training.. It made me wonder about dog's ability to delay a reward or strategizing for future rewards. Lots to be learned. Cheers from Denmark.

    this is the intensity my pittie has with our cats!! Needless to say, the cats have their own domain in the house now that our Roxstar cannot access. Getting a hold of a baseball, and getting a hold of a cat, are two totally different things, and not something I want to chance! I am so glad you are doing these rescue/foster episodes. They tackle an entire different type of training than puppy training. And honestly, everyone else on youtube is doing puppy training, Im SO happy you are doing the different/harder (in my opinion) types of issues. Keep it up!

    Welcome to rescue/fostering! It's a wonderful thing to do and you're exactly right--you can educate so many people about homeless animals, bullie breeds, etc. Maybe you'll even inspire some other folks to foster. Without foster homes, rescue couldn't work at all. And it can be difficult to pick the "right" family, but very often you'll "know". Things just "click". I don't know how to describe it any better than that.

    Brought back a memory of my bull-necked Police Standard Puli, big as a mature GSD, who had 2.5 years of bad habits when he came to my care. Speaking of fixated, he did not know what to think of cats. First time he saw a black country cat, a feral, on the far side of a six foot deep by 10 foot wide weed and skunky water ditch, the feline checking out our approach, Shandor struggled like George to get at it, dragging me with my anchored heels dug in. The cat naturally ran off. Every day for six months, as we walked that route, him learning to heel on a loose leash, he always grew excited, paused, halted to stare in the direction of that long gone cat's spot across the ditch, stationary, totally fixated upon where, he, Shandor first saw it. What a memory my boy had! Curious whether George has expectations, maybe doggie-dreams at night, he will find another baseball in the same spot he found the first one if only you, Zak, will pass by that way again. Belief in the Law of Attraction is strong in that one. 😊🤗😄😁 Look how it netted him you and Bree!!

    With George it's the ball, with my dog it's the cat. There is nothing we've discovered yet that is more interesting than the cat. To be fair she doesn't want to hurt the cat, just play, however her exuberant puppy energy completely overwhelms the cat. I know you are frustrated at times in this video but honestly it is really commendable that you've gotten to the point that the ball can lay on the ground and George chooses to come to you! It is a true showcase of the great communication and bond you've built with George!

    I love this training with George. Anybody to give superficial advise on how to fix serious problems in 10 minutes. The reality is for those of us that have to “smooth out turmoil” in our training, the 10 minute guys have no clue. Seeing how it takes time, patience and knowledge for a long road. So glad you are discussing energy levels. Most people don’t get that. I do. I understand completely. I had to spend 20 minutes to get a tennis ball out from my Malinois. Finally did it by throwing 3 tennis balls out. When I threw one she would drop the other. Then when she got really tired, she took a high dollar treat. Ready to practice your stategy. Thanks Zac, You’ve got this. Keep them coming. This is great.

    I really appreciate this series. It's one thing to read a book with advice in it or a video that has things going smoothly and edited to show you consistent progress, but I think this video in particular does a great job of capturing how important the roles of patience, persistence, determination and consistency are in dog training. Nothing happens overnight, and seeing Zac meet George where he's at and put in whatever is required to get him to where he needs to be is very inspiring. It reminds us that dog training is sometimes frustrating, and that's okay

    I love to see that an amazing trainer like you is also struggling. It makes me feel better about myself.

    You are my favorite dog trainer. I'm impressed and blessed by your love for animals. My heart is blessed because of you. We are not to compare ourselves with others but you are gifted with such a love for animals that blessed my heart so much- so much that I tried to get a animal rescue guy (group) to watch,listen and enjoy (learn) but I believe (for now) his ego has his heart held captive- regardless of reasoning with this person that he could hold on to the good he would learn (as God gives) but I think his ego disallows this. But- you are a blessing and quite enjoyable to watch,listen and learn from. The lord continue to bless you, in Christ Jesus name

    Love these videos, please consider fostering a very anxious dog. My adopted dog is constantly finding more things to be scared of and I struggle teaching him to be comfortable when one storm or firework can set us back to ground 1 so quickly.

    5:15, he's even drooling hehe my german shepherd is exactly like that with her jolly ball. But fortunately that's something she CAN have when I say it's okay lol Quick question though - Could it be that George's first owners did play with him with baseballs and they couldn't control his excitement, so they turned him out or took him to the shelter for being too "unruly"..? That could help explain why he fixates on it so intensely.

    I’m still watching so maybe you say this, but I really think whatever his situation was before he became a stray the only play/attention he got was with a baseball.

    Omg that dog got so close to that baseball. SO CLOSE! I'm really impressed with his restraint even if he's absolutely not perfect. (I'm at around 14 minutes here.) I'm just seriously impressed when dogs are able to show this kinda restraint, cause they definitely can just get it if they really want to. I feel I should challenge my pup a bit more watching this.

    This serie is absolutely awesome! There isn't a lot of dog training videos adapted to older dogs that were adopted from shelters. :p
    Before I found your channel, all I could find were focussed on puppies and were not always adapted for my older rescue dogs.
    Our first dog (a mountain bernese X) was about 6 years old when we adopted him about 2 years ago and our new one (a spanish greyhound rescued from hunters in Spain) is about 3 years old and she's been with us 1 month!
    I'm happy to start training with her following your videos, just like I did with my big boy!
    Your videos really helped me a lot and my relationship with them is getting deeper and deeper!
    Thanks so much from Quebec! :D
