In this week's video we explore how to determine what is likely to be a good match for our own particular background, preferences, upbringing, and natural tendencies, and of course I give you a barn-load of book recommendations to add to your wishlist.

Choosing your magick is like selecting a car to purchase...find the one that both you like and that likes you back. Similar to making your own salad or making your own sundae, add the flavors and toppings that you prefer. My magick is primarily based on asking the spirits for assistance...and then providing gratitude for their efforts. They are our mentors and psychopomps.

Well, having only ever owned one car which I hated (never wanted one after that) I can possibly agree! 😄

I never thought of doing this. Thank you for this epiphany. As a Mi’kmaw we have a group of spirits we pray to during our ceremonies like for example when we prepare our sweat lodge ceremony and when we fill our pipes for pipe ceremonies and even during the actual sweat ceremony. We call on these spirits to come sit with us in a good way and take our prayers to wasook the place of our ancestors. Each direction has its own spirits we pray to. We also pray to Niskum our creator. We also pray to our grandmother earth. We also have a number of deities in our culture as well. The most famous one being Glooskap.

After becoming a High Priest by Rite of Initiation , I circled out and went Solitary. I have spent a little over 20yrs researching all things Chickasaw I could get my hands on. • @hotdoggington6962

@@lesbianmustardbottle957 It depends on what you mean exactly. On a surface level I watched episode 3 of The Midnight Gospel, became interested in magic, started reading Damien Echols, and it went from there.
But the thing that actually changed my mind was the experience of magic, and unfortunately, I know it sounds like a cop out, but it's not something you can explain in words. It'd be like trying to describe "seeing" or "hearing" to someone unfamiliar with the concepts - describing it scientifically wouldn't really illuminate what the experience is actually like. Especially because it mostly revolves around mundane things you already do, it's just doing them in a way that's conscious of the actual power that can be wielded while doing them.
On the plus side, you can experience it for yourself! If you're willing to follow directions thoroughly and be a bit disciplined in your training, at least. Doesn't have to be huge, just starting with 15 minutes a day, or whatever you can spare. You'll be craving it naturally before you know it. There are a huge number of different systems you can use - for people with our background, I recommend Learning Ritual Magic by John Michael Greer. He gives clear directions to what seems like the most effective, efficient route, without any woo-woo or philosophical droning.
Doesn't even require belief! Like anything else that's tangible, belief in it is irrelevant. Tho I can assure you, you will quickly come upon things that aren't readily explicable by the modern rational worldview.
(also let me just say, I still adore science and use my rational mind like a sword to cut through bullshit. Charlatans are everywhere, including and maybe even especially on the road to enlightenment)

In Carl Gustav Jung's Red Book I came across this concept that Magick is out of the realm of Reason and cannot be comprehend by it, nor explained, and this brings an Eureka kind of moment to me, it shifts my perspective on things. Magick might not be explained by mere words, as words act as a veil between our subconcious mind and our shared conscious reality. They map chaos into order, but the map is not the territory. And as human we might be the bridge between these two realms : Magick / Chaos being accessible by our right hemisphere (often linked to artistry & creative flow), Reason / Logic by our left one (home of the carthesian mind, segmenting the whole into parts).
I now see the Right Hemisphere as a "Daemonic Space" from which one can draw energy to be manifested into our perceptive Left Hemisphere reality. In one way demons (& daemons) are but the shadow of our subconcious, the unknown waiting to be named into conscious reality. Drawn by letting go of the mental control (left domain), in a kind of improvised dance.
I dunno, that's the kind of symbolism that speak to me anyways :)

I think choosing the best magickal system might depend on your goal and if it aligns with the goal of the magickal system. If your goal is something along the lines of union with the divine, enlightenment, or Nibbana, then you probably want a magickal system that emphasizes things like meditation and/or yoga.

I've practiced both voodoo and chaos magick. Some spells worked like a voodoo one did, but some didn't. I learned that it's all about INTENTION and FEELING like it's already happened.
I've actually sat down, closed my eyes, and VISUALIZED a desired outcome for me numerous times and they've come true.
The reason spells don't work or spirits don't respond or certain magick doesn't resonate with you is because the lack of faith which intention is connected to.
Neville Goddard has been my spiritual mentor since 2020. I think he's the best when it comes to reality warping. If there's any spirit I want to invoke, it's his, Carl G. Jung and the wonderful Joseph Murphy's spirits. Just a shame we all can't go out and drink together. 😭 lol
That being said, I'd like to have a look at some of these books. Surprised you didn't bring up "The Kybalion." Jewish mysticism, and eastern esotericism are exactly my speed.

you and damien echols have got me into magick, been chronically ill and since my last flare up my connection to god, intuition, emotional capacity, and wonder in life has faded substantially. ive only just started and im already having strange synchronicities back and seeing 11.11 more. straight after doing my LBRP today i was clearing stuff out from my attic and found my old school bag from years ago, first thing i reached in and took out was a religious studies book from my confirmation (brought up Christian but not Christian). the first page i opened there was a drawing i did with a man with a cross on his shirt and it reminded me of the qabbalistic cross envisioning that white light going through you, few pages more and i saw FIRE, with this quote "Breathe on me, breath of God till I am wholly thine until this earthly part of me glows with Thy fire divine" which is funny because i decided i want to focus alot on the fire element with magick, being a musician and someone who feels like they have lost there passion. this has given me some hope and sense of wonder back, i now feel again like there is purpose order and wonder still in the world although sometimes through my sick depressed lenses i may not see it. thank you for your content

@@JohnMcCfatty I really get it.. I had to work on changing my perspective on it. I think about the indigenous peoples that very much rely on meat for survival.. they always have. And they're very grateful and express that to the animal for their gift to them. Our way of life, of course, is very different. But it's also very artificial. Our bodies are organic and meant to consume naturally occurring things. If we didn't have the luxury of grocery shopping and plant based options.. how would we eat? I definitely have my reasons for having gone in the plant based direction, and I made sure to get the nutrients that I needed but.. in the long run it didn't work for me and I was sacrificing myself for the cause and my ability to operate physically and mentally both suffered. I started off with fish, then poultry and even though beef was a tough one for me that's what helped to heal me. And the fact that the "3D printed meat" and other artificial options are being kind of pushed by the powers that be.. it makes me raise an eyebrow.
I'm grateful beyond belief for those animals that have helped me heal and thrive. People have healed issues like leaky gut and psoriasis through the carnivore diet. I don't eat it regularly, but I listen to my body and brain. Good luck, your health is important! Maybe give it a try and see if it helps. If it doesn't, then you know that's not the issue.

For me the most effective magic is thinking from the reaity I want to experience. If I want something, I need to think as if I already have it. Rest in a sense of satisfaction, and lack of desire. Also creating an imaginal scene that implies my desire has already manifested. And making the imaginal scene so life like, that it feels like it realy happened, after Im finished with it.

I wish I could talk to my grandfather, who was whispered to have magic. I'm half American so I'm not close to half the family and the pre Christian culture figuratively and literally. He was a Fillipino so he had Indonesian, Chinese and Spanish influence, so there's no telling what he practiced. But it is said that he could break curses, influence animals and even commune with spirits. His spirit is said to have lingered the house for a year! But he was secretive about it. He lived in a Catholic majority region so he didn't practice openly.
His magic is a deep family secret. He died when I was a when I was 6 to 10 and only met him a few times, and his English was pretty thick. His sons died young and childless, so even if he'd taught one anything, they had no time to teach anyone else.
His daughters, especially my Mom, never talk about it. Apparently it was a male only family tradition.
I just want to know what he was into. I might not want any part of it. Some of the stories about him are vaguely sinister but those stories are third hand at best, so accuracy and details are very sparse. But if it isn't too dark, I'd love to know about it.

But I begin to feel bombarded with all of the knowledge being bestowed upon me… knowledge becomes heavy when it’s useless…so I asked for guidance & direction…I asked to be guided to MY souls path… and BOOM it wasn’t long after, that I had that dream…ask and ye shall receive!!

I feel like another obstacle for practitioners finding a magickal focus is how fast-paced social media is these days. I always recommend people read everything even the bad stuff to formulate their own opinions or perhaps take the only gem for their own arsenal and I think there's an energy and a lasting imprint to that route compared to a 15 second clip. This was such an organized video. Glad you popped up on my feed ☺️

That's essentially how I spent my adolescence on the quest to find magic, understand the nature of reality and to prove to myself that the divine\deity I found within wasn't a figment of my imagination and that there is a history of others who recognised that God sits inside us all in deep meditation manifesting this reality full of passive & voluntary change. I'm a scientist by pursuit and a black South African by birth traditionally we commune with ancestral spirits\gods to intercede on our behalf with the most high, with that being said my journey has led me to lean more on the mentalism of Hermeticism, tap into the implied apotheosis of Eastern Philosophy through yoga\zen and to craft my own rituals based on ideas from Ceremonial Magic & Voodoo. So essentially I'm a chaos magician (one who uses techniques that work) with his own Kriya
itual and philosophy\paradigm that describes why\how what I do works. You're comment mostly reminded me of the part of the journey in which I was reading everything looking for the similarities amongst the literature to establish the simplest & most effective way to impact reality (in a metaphysical way) with minimal exertion.

I’m on the Chaos Magick path but I do incorporate a lot of Eclectic Witchcraft and Easterm Mysticism into what I do. I pull from a lot of systems. A lot of my practices focus on the darker side of things, but I incorporate a lot of nature based stuff too. Lots of stuff from psychology, im obviously a fan of Carl Jung. I did a lot of shamanic stuff in my early 20’s. For me, if it seems to bridge the gap and make a connection between the physical and astral/spiritual/mental realms, it’s all valid. What works for me may not work for you. That’s why I dont choose a specific path. It feels like self limiting practice. If I want to grow my knowledge and refine my practices, I will use anything and everything as a means to an end. Even when I mess with spells and stuff, I’m not really trying to gain anything aside from knowledge and understanding. Its a pretty scientific approach. If I allow myself to believe in this, do this spell, do something else from this system and another from that, will it be more efficient? Will it work at all? Are they all pieces of a whole and we dont see it yet? Maybe this person was right about this thing, this other person was right about something else seemingly completely unrelated, but what happens when we combine them? What if we add more stuff? Does it make it stronger? I cant pick one path because I have too many questions to be satisfied. I know I’ll never know it all and never know how our universe truly works, but I get satisfaction from getting as close to that truth as possible, and yes, I’ll embrace all of this stuff to see if there’s something to it. I’ve gotten way more out if this than i did with organized religion, so…

This was a precious video to watch. I'm somewhat having a spiritual crisis. And funny enough, it was also born with the Gnosticism worldview!! I founded some recognition in the ONE (i think, the Father?), but was/and still am confused about the duality of the world... Last year, i got sick (i'm still recovering, but i'm a lot better!!) and started to do meditation to help heal my body :) Mind power and all that!! So... Last year, after starting meditating regularly, i saw Jesus. It was like an energy being, full of fire, and radiation, and He was healing everybody... He said to me that anyone could do it! I don't know how to express it. But He was full of love. After that, i was still doing my regularly meditation for health and in one of them, saw the Holy Spirit, a dove with a very VERY bright light. Oh and the sound.... Like the sound of the universe!!! Yeah... That scared me... The Holy Spirit was trying to enter my head! I kid you not, i was so scared i jumped out from the meditation. That said, i needed this perspective. So i somehow missed Her? She came to me and i missed Her. Oh, does this strange accident meditations can cause a sensation like a sensation of having "cold" in the top of your head? Does anybody have ever felt something like that? I sound like a true lunatic. Yep. That said, this lunatic loved your video!! I'm feeling more serene and balanced, i think it was the piece missing. Thank you, truly! Much love, from Portugal

However it has been like going down a rabbit hole with so many different tunnels and no way of knowing where that tunnel goes without a great deal of study. That introduces the problem in the long run, that study reveals a type of magick that is unsuitable or a type that is too difficult to perform where I am. This video has shed some light on those tunnels and with it comes a great sigh of relief. Much more work to be done but a very helpful tutorial.

My mother use to work with "la Santa muerte" we are Mexicans. As a child, the thought was to have a positive relationship with death. To worship life and respect death just as naturally as breathing. We would pray for protection and strength, for valor and justice. However, I've seen her image plastered used by a majority of criminals, cartel members as well asking for protection and valor perhaps. It sickens me... But I'm aware we will be judged for our actions and pay for them accordingly. However, it kept me away from it. But once I was in a great destructive situation, I dreamt of her... Twice. I asked my mother what it meant and she told me to pray. Boy, I kid you not, a series of miracles happened and I was helped. But you must always promise a payment. My payment other than flowers, fruit, wine and a shrine, is helping every single day and do good out on to the world. For me "magic" is a very personal thing and that intent is of outmost importance. ❤️

First time i've heard of someone talking about how hard it can be to work for spirits that you have associated with bad people, i personally have a lot of dificulty in working with the christian god and jesus, mostly for the amount of prejudice and hatred that some of the religious groups in here demonstrate... However, i do like to work with some christian saints and to pray the rosary (mostly to honour and conect to the spirit of my heavilly christian great grandmother), and even tho i really like these practices it can be really hard! It's not easy to put all your thoughts and prejudices aside when working with certain entities... I dont have a lot to say about the subject as i'm still strugling with it but i really want to thank you for making me feel so validated, sometimes it's hard to understand that it's ok not to be perfect in your spiritual practices

🌹💙 Thank you immensely for your unbiased presentation: your research and thoughtfulness really shine through, especially with providing guidance for us. Speaking from my own experience, I’ve found that beginning with a foundation within a resonating belief system-to start with-then, based on one’s personal experience (which is different than someone else’s), one should develop their own Path-infusing their energy making it their own, bringing their own Path alive. Everyone’s journey is different, so should their Path be. Strictly following “only” an established system IMO, is following someone else’s journey-someone else’s creation. (For me, my Path led me to conduct an in-depth “Soul Contracts Release,” then writing my own script (practice) within a respectful framework of Daemonolatry. All of your content is valuable for consideration-I’m thinking to become a patron in the near future. Darkly Blessings! 🕯🙏

Thanks again FF. I know I've complained in the past about Israel Regardie's verbose writing style but I have to backtrack on that. Once I found the author's rythm and picked up on his writing style, I was able to follow along. I am not the most patient of people, apparently.
The Tree of Life: An Illustrated Study in Magic gives a pretty in-depth overview of what's what and includes the steps for the Ritual of the Pentagram, among other things. Thank you for your explanation, it makes perfect sense. I grew up as a Christian I was taught during Bible studies to pray to God and that other practices were wrong. Growing up I was pulled towards spirituality as I knew we are all made of energy and there is more that we can do than just praying. I tried the LBRP a few times, but I felt so uncomfortable invoking the names of archangels and drawing the pentagram symbol that I believe it's from the teachings scorched in my subconscious. So this would not work for me. On the other hand, I feel great working with energies by just using visualisation.

i appreciate you expanding on your recommendation of working with culturally familiar entities. some would no doubt hear that and interpret it as a variation of "stay in your lane," but emphasizing the relevance of cultural *attitudes* as well as direct background was a very important (and reassuring) point to make.
for example, in america, with such an individualistic culture, it probably feels a lot more acceptable to be interested in traditions that are not strictly "your own," as opposed to the idea of straying from cultural norms in much more homogenous (or potentially even restrictive) places.
i feel as if those drawn to the idea of seeking knowledge or understanding of the world will find kinship with entities associated with those ideas, from a wide array of backgrounds (often those with whom they share no genetic lineage), and that seems more than okay with me. no doubt the same goes for those whose goal is to feel completely attuned with nature, or who have any other kind of personal focus. people will naturally gravitate towards a path or entity that aligns with them, and as is the point of the video, so long as it works for them, i don't see any issue with that.

(I'm of the "local nameless land spirits" persuasion, and it's been very hard to figure out how to learn *anything* since it's both so specific and so vague.)

Thanks for an interesting video 👍. You've become one of my favorite TH-camrs recently and I'm having fun watching all of your previous videos.
I have been searching for the right path for a long time and I started reading about occultism in my teens. Since then, I have tried different paths in spirituality, but specialized more in magic in the last 10 years. However, I have tried to do everything, because everything is so exciting. Which means I've not gotten very far in anything. Now I have finally found an order where I feel that everything is right and now I try to focus on it.

I've dabbled with many forms of Magick, although now I have focused more for internal development rather than material gain (although I can say I've had ridiculously powerful results in the past, though at a price), my thoughts seem to Dovetail with the person who posted this. HooDoo is traditionally a Black American/Caribbean system with Roots from Africa, but make no mistake, it can be harnessed by anyone. That's just an example, but just like the OP claims, whatever works for you is the best form of Magick. Develop your will first, that's your best step in working anything, Magick included. Also, music is a good place to look, if you can recognize the patterns within it that transcends language and time, you can gain an inexhaustible source of strength...

I love your videos. The memes and gifs always give me a laugh. I typically work with... Whatever responds. I have several spirit friends, but I just refer to them as the nickname I've given them. I send them gratitude, and they seem satisfied. They're typically very responsive.
I've always felt a bit weird trying to evoke a specific entity because idk if they actually WANT to help me.
I did also very easily connect with the spirits of the islands of Hawaii. I'm not at all ethnically hawaiian, but they accepted me straight away. They would often comfort me or sit with me when I sat on the beach at night.
They didn't help me like my other entity friends, we more just... Hung out. It was interesting

My practice (not just magical but also devotional) is a chaotic mess, but I would say it works for me. I work with one specific angel I was always drawn to, since I was a kid. I work with a controversial deity from the Norse pantheon who, if approached with respect and without prejudice, can do amazing chaotic things happen for me (aka finding a new job out of the blue, finding a very large sum of money in a place it had no business being, surprise trips I wasn't even looking into), and a couple of chtonic deities (one Egyptian, one Greek). For reference, and if it matters, I am Romanian. And I think the best way to approach these spirits/entities/deities is to respect their pantheons and the cultures they belong to. You might not want to work with an entire pantheon, and instead would like to focus on just one entity (or, if you are eclectic, several). But it is important to do your research and respect the other deities in those pantheons. Acknowledge their existence, learn about their connection to the spirit you work with, and generally just don't disrespect them. In fact, I would say to never disrespect any spirit, regardless of how you feel about them through the lens of your culture, for example. I know of people who work with demons, with amazing results. I could never do that because of my upbringing. But I never badmouth demons, nor do I take any sort of action against them. I don't think they are "evil", or anything of the sort. But I steer clear of them, and I respect their power.
That is why, personally, I would never try to make an entity do my biding. I ask for their aid, and if they assist me, then I thank them respectfully. And if they choose not to, I never EVER throw tantrums about it. I'd rather have a good relationship with them, rather than a bad one.
Maybe I am humanising these spirits too much, but the way I see it, if I don't like certain things being said/done to me, I would not do them to someone else (be it a human being, an animal or a spirit).
Also... Sometimes we make mistakes out of innocence, because we didn't know about a particular thing that might offend the spirits, or even make human errors. In my experience, a heartfelt apology goes a long way. Give an offering, apologise from the heart, explain what went wrong and why. 99.9% of the time, it will appease them.
