The outro to this song is actually a loop Darrell wrote when he was a teenager to help his lifelong girlfriend and partner Rita sleep. He recorded a loop of it to a tape and gave it to her as a gift. As such, that part of the song is officially named "Rita's Lullaby". He would also often tack that part to the ends of songs when Pantera played live in the 80's as kind of an intermission
The song "10's" off of the same album would be another great song to check out of you haven't already. Features another one of Dimbags great solos... The song was also famously used in a Dragon Ball Z movie way back when.
@hammersticks Vulgar is their best work overall imo. FBD and Trendkill are considered "heavier" which makes some prefer them I guess, but Vulgar just has incredible riffs throughout. Groove metal pretty much peaked with that album as far as I am concerned. Some awesome gems on the second half like Regular People, Live in a Hole, Hollow. Even Piss tbh
This solo hits a nerve and makes me cry every time I hear it because of the beautiful memories I have of Dime and this band!! I was blessed to see these guys 5 times and will always cherish this band!! 🤟🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
A sad, poignant and incredibly beautiful song by Pantera. Every time I feel a pain in my heart, I remember the fate of the Abbott brothers and in general that everything has a beginning and an end...
You’ve said at least twice that you never heard a Pantera song like this, but it’s shows in your face that you never heard a song like this, ever. And I get you. A masterpiece, seems like a new genre, a totally madness and Lovecraft song.
Every time I hear Floods outro I cry And Wooow... I didn’t think that you would be watching floods right now, isn’t it too early?) I thought it would be... but a little later) Well... this is awesome, awesome reaction and... More PanterA!) Gutcha Pull 😎🤟 as Dimebagg would say)
Ive made a playlist of Pantera and listen too it 3 to 4 times a week at work gets me pumped been listening too them since 1990 Cowboys best metal band ever 100%
The stunned deadpan look on your face after hearing the double-solo for the first time was how all of us were in 1995. I had never heard someone make a guitar FEEL and SING like that, with such emotion. To this day, even watching you react to it, it chokes me up. Pantera at this time were in a very weird spot. Dime and Vinnie were at the absolute top/peak of their game, while Phil had descended into the rock-bottom depths of heroin. What will also blow your mind is this entire album was recorded instrumental and sent to Phil to record vocals separately. I always hear that solo as a representation of the strife and fight between the band, to keep something together that they all love, and not let it die with Phil's descent into darkness.
Floods is the ballad of this album lol. The rest of the album is pure insanity. War Nerve, Drag the waters, the title track, suicide note pt. 2, sandblast… it’s ridiculous. Great part of my youth.
Don't worry about anything. Your channel is great. I really enjoy hearing a fresh opinion on music from when I grew up. The channel will grow as long as you give an honest opinion. Keep it up and greetings from South Africa.
Pantera are my fave metal band. Nobody comes close Songs to check out that you haven’t done. Revolution is my name Makes them disappear Becoming Art of shredding God dam electric-Kerry King does some harmonics at the end
Yo, this tune on mushrooms is a wild listen. Phil's background voices in this is crazy. Its highly different than their earlier stuff. I didnt dig the last few albums too much as they kept getting more abrasive every album. Cheers from Canada bruh
I had the pleasure of seeing Pantera play at oxbow lake Roadhouse. Kick ass music and the guys were pretty cool. Dimebag was the sweetest man. I was so upset when he passed away. Rest in peace Dimebag and Vinny you are greatly missed.
This album actually goes super hard, don’t let this softer track fool ya. Having heard the album a million times, this song became on of my favorites off the record. It will grow on you and that solo and ending is brilliantly beautiful.
More you listen to this song, the more you going to like it. Suddenly it is one of the all time great pantera songs. If you got some real hifi, this song really hits hard on the speakers. Very good production.
Never doubt dimebags ability to tickle your ears and melt your brain. That song does not reflect the entire album, but if you listen to the album from start to finish, it's a intense ride. Straight from that floods outro rolls hard into the final 2 tracks that go really hard.
One of my favorite songs by Pantera, and in my opinion Dime made it a masterpiece 🤘 Rest in Peace Dime and Vinny forever legends and we still miss you 💔
Bought The Great Southern Trendkill cd in summer 1996 at Dynamo open air metal festival Eindhoven NL, it was only just released. Friday I remeber Monster Magnet, Saturday headliner Slayer and Sunday headliner Metallica with 80.000 + metal heads each day awesome metal memories for life were made there\,,,/
Great southern trendkill the title track, Suicide note part 1 and 2 together are incredible. Part 2 would likely be the most aggressive song your listened to so far
I saw Pantera for the 3rd time last night and they played this song for the first time since 2001 as a tribute to Dime and Vinnie. It's probably top 5 Pantera songs for me and it was INCREDIBLE...
The great southern trendkill is a rollercoaster of emotions. Both dark and heavy but also moving with it’s incredible music from top to bottom. Check more out from this album
Great song and another great video ! I was lucky to see Pantera live twice, In my humble opinion, Dimebag is the GOAT. Suicide note 1 and Suicide note 2 back to back next!
I heard this song live and a few days ago in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Pantera did such a good job of playing their song even without Dime or Vinnie. Rip and fly high abbott brothers. .
Absolutely love to see you dive into the Great Southern Trend Kill super Badass 👍😊Was on trip to Texas with sister & brother in law when this C.D came out I Listened all the way home to Colorado after that Saw them Live Red Rocks amphitheater TGSTK absolutely Love it was totally Badass 👍😜...love your videos Got Subscribed today😊 thanks.... Glad you found the best band EVER in the WORLD of ALL TIME! I'd like to mention 2 things. I'm almost 50 I've loved Pantera since the first time I heard them way back when. 1: When Cowboys from Hell came out there was, typically, one song that got played less than the others, not because it was bad but just a little slower tempo, UNTIL it became the song you wanted to hear all the time. "The Sleep". Almost every Pantera fan (back in the day) had this similar experience. It wasn't their "go to" song, until it became their "go to" song. It's not the fastest or heaviest, it's just plain bad a**. The solo you can just feel the emotion! I could loop the solo and listen to it over and over and over, all day. Never gets old. 2: You should check out Pantera before they blew up. I'd recommend listening to the "Power Metal" album and at least checking out the song "Power Metal". You may find a few others on their you like as well.
P.S. There aren't any official videos for these, but just the songs are on youtube. There is a remastered version of "The Sleep" but I didn't see one for "Power Metal" so it will sound not quite as loud as a remastered song. I could list ever song by Pantera they ever put out to listen to but the people below have got you covered for songs. One I didn't see was the last song put out by Pantera after Dime's death. One that was supposed to go on another album with different lyrics but got scrapped then new lyrics added and the new song was on Far Beyon Driven. Check out the original song, "Piss", yes, "Piss". Think you will actually love it. Sure your fans can give you full details! Metal 4 Life!
This is my personal favorite song from this album, if you want another really good song from this album you gotta listen to 10’s, great vocals and a phenomenal solo 🤘
Saw opening night of the new tour. First time they’ve played Floods in well over 20 years. Zakk did Dime justice. Very emotional tribute to the brothers.
That's Pantera at their most truly artistic. It takes a few listens to really take it in. Honestly you can hear the influence of the substances Phil was in the midst of in that song. The same substances that would absolutely influence him to say some bizarre and very not-cool things numerous times in that day, stuff he's since backed away from after he cleaned himself up. But this song definitely grows on you as you listen to it multiple times. That's common to that album actually. It was a divisive album because Pantera really were trying to become as untrendy as possible in the face of increasingly low-T alternative rock. Ironically by the time Pantera put that album out alternative rock and grunge was clearly dying and being replaced by nu-metal.
My favourite pantera's album, you would love drag the waters and 13 steps to nowhere, also the underground in America has a sick riff in the middle of the song like "this love"
Pantera has one hit song. Suicide Note Part II. You won't hear it anywhere but in your house, in your car or on this stage and thats the way it should be. Going to see them on Monday night. Its not the complete Pantera, but I got to see this version.
I hope you feel better soon 🤔 I'm looking forward to more hits and hidden jems that - I'm sure - you will eventually get to 😲😉😃😎 have you done Pantera, Hollow yet 🤔 have fun 😊
70’s bands, Might I suggest listening to “25 or 6 to 4” (1970 Tanglewood) by the band Chicago! Terry Kath (lead guitar) was said to be one of the best guitarists out there by Jimi Hendrix that he knew of.
MMaaattee - Migraines are a pain in the ass. I deal with them, and will gladly pass on some recommendations to help fight them if you want. This solo is regarded as one of Dime's greatest solos in his career. If not one of the best solos in metal. It invokes a certain emotion. You can't really explain what, or why; but it just hits so fuckin heavy. Rex's bass punching through during that solo is killer too. 3 childhood mates, and a new singer made of the the best metal bands in history. Rest in Power, Abbott Brothers. We miss you both every day.
The whole album is amazing just listening to a play through nice brother 👍..i recommend stuff from far beyond driven. That album is really good from pantera
I've seen a lot of these reactions to the same songs, pantera will always be a cultural icon just as black sabbath was before them, but one you never see or hear much about from pantera came on a soundtrack for Dracula 2000,check out their song "immortally insane " truly a masterpiece, as well as slayer " bloodline "
When you said ' Nah,fuck off bruv' I spit my drink out!
The outro to this song is actually a loop Darrell wrote when he was a teenager to help his lifelong girlfriend and partner Rita sleep. He recorded a loop of it to a tape and gave it to her as a gift. Class. Never knew that
Thanks for the info. I’ve never heard that before. That’s really cool. 🤘🏼
Cool bit of trivia
Didn't know that. Cool
When I'm having a bad day, the outro is one of my go to things. Love it!
Dime was the perfect blend of fretboard pyrotechnics, whammy bar gymnastics, with tons of soul and feeling. One of the greatest to ever play.
Possibly the sexiest guitar tone of all time. Only one that comes close is Patruchi.
His bends are the best. The timing and cadence is so hard to duplicate.
I have tears in my eyes every single time i hear this solo...masterpiece...R.I.P Dimebag
The song "10's" off of the same album would be another great song to check out of you haven't already.
Features another one of Dimbags great solos...
The song was also famously used in a Dragon Ball Z movie way back when.
Broly's Theme 🤘
Yeah, 10s is the one for me too.
@@nim4464 you, Kakarot, will be the first of my victims.
To me this is Pantera’s heaviest album. Goes hard
Vulgar abuse of power, I love great southern trendkill it ain't #1
@hammersticks Vulgar is their best work overall imo. FBD and Trendkill are considered "heavier" which makes some prefer them I guess, but Vulgar just has incredible riffs throughout. Groove metal pretty much peaked with that album as far as I am concerned. Some awesome gems on the second half like Regular People, Live in a Hole, Hollow. Even Piss tbh
GSTK is definitely the the heaviest of all the Pantera albums... Not saying it is the best just the heaviest...🇦🇺🍻
@@johnc.hammersticksVulgar DISPLAY of Power….
Vulgar will always be #1 for me. But TGSTK goes hard as fuck. And FBD as well.
Trendkil is badass!!
Bro, it’s about time you did “Mouth for war” I’m waiting patiently.
I'll second that motion! "Mouth For War", please.
Most definitely. Mouth For War, please and thank you.
Yes yes yes!
Fuck yeah!
Yea and shedding skin ...and slaughtered...and hollow...so many others Pantera is just it's own thing and it just takes over once you listen more
This solo hits a nerve and makes me cry every time I hear it because of the beautiful memories I have of Dime and this band!! I was blessed to see these guys 5 times and will always cherish this band!!

I bought this the week it came out in May 1996, I was almost 15...Great time for music
This is Pantera hitting their creative stride as a band
The singer, Phil Anselmo, also has another band called Down. Check out their song called Bury Me In Smoke. One of my faves!
Yep Phil and Rex are in Down.....Bury me in smoke is a bad ass track.....
@@Motownmadman17 yes man i cant even explain, esp the guitar solo of that track is just 🔥
