Lucky to have seen him 3 times in concert. The first time was warming up for BOSTON (go figure) and I had no idea who he was. It was one of those "OMFG WHO IS THIS GUY?" moments. Last time was with his older brother Jimmie's band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds as opening act.In between sets, Jimmie sits with double neck guitar. Stevie comes out, stands behind him and plays the upper neck while Jimmie plays the bottom neck. There is a vid of that on TH-cam.
Did you notice they didnt just switch guitars. They switched the guitar strap from the 1st guitar to the 2nd guitar at the same time. lol Greatest move ever. They obviously rehearshed the exact choreographed moves to do when switching guitars mid song. As you said the guitar tech did great. U can see Stevie doesnt just undo to power cord to his amps. He also undoes both ends of the strap while moving his left hand to the neck to hand his guitar back to the tech over his left shoulder while reaching for the new guitar coming in on his right. While we all focus on his handi hand work, most of us dont notice he also dropped the unhooked strap on purpose with his right hand. The tech swaps guitars. Quickly sets the old guitar on the ground, grabs the old strap while he's down there and comes up already hooking the front part of the strap on the neck side them hooks the right hand side. Classix great vid clip.
You know Stevie never used a playlist because he said he played from the heart, so he never knew what or how he was going to play, yet Double Trouble always stayed up and never missed a beat either. Chris Layton was with Stevie when he put his band The Triple Threat Review. He joined on September 10, 1978, when Stevie changed the name to Double Trouble. Tommy Shannon joined Double Trouble on June 23, 1981, Tommy and Steve met each other when they joined a band called Krackerjack in the 70's, Tommy knew Stevie as Sketter and Reese Wayne's joined on June 7, 1985 fresh of The Allmen Brothers Band when Duane Allmen fired him for his brother Greg Allmen. Stevie's guitar tech named Rene Martinez could take a guitar, switch his guitar, and be back in less than 5 seconds.
The cool thing is that's not the only time it happened there's another video of him playing a different song and the same thing happened. Guitar switches for real smooth you know they have to practice that a lot😅😅😅
Yeah Reese Winans the keyboardist here still plays! He has his own albums and a lot of times he plays for Joe Bonamassa. Check out the song by Joe called I'll play the blues for you you'll see Reese getting down on the Oregon
Stevie was only 5'5" tall. But he had a big heart. Check out Life Without You ( guitar change). Reese Wynans is still playing the keys, he his with Joe Bonamassa, another blues artist/singer. Should check him out Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart live in Amsterdam, Stone Cold Jimmy Barnes featuring Joe Bonamassa, Riding With The Kings with Mahalia Barnes.

Was a fan of his back in the 80's. It was a sad day when it was announced that he died.
SRV was VICIOUS. His guitar was as automatic with whims a heartbeat is to most people.

Stevie is so blues he couldnt stop blues-ing even when his blues maker broke. He just kept on blues-ing. lol
More SRV please! My absolute favorite performer.
He's one of the few white dudes that was accepted to jam with B.B. King and Muddy Waters
He, and Johnny Winter.
He also jammed with 2:57 Albert King and Johnny Copeland. All were his inspiration. BB and Clapton had huge praises for SRV
This is what happens when you surround yourself with true professionals .
THE GOAT
For sure! Let me know if you have any suggestions on videos I could react to! Thanks for the comment!
The piano player now plays with Joe Bonamassa. You should check him out.
I will! Thanks for the comment!
You like that guitar switch? Check out “Life Without You” from the Capital Theater. This performance has everything!
This is SRV after he got clean and sober, playing and singing with his eyes literally open now.
