Glad you like them! And I found the missing isolator on the E04: it was hidden inside one the pantographs, you can see it in the video too if you look at the pantograph on the right ( th-cam.com/video/bKFUvui5r68/w-d-xo.html ) ...

I lived in Berlin from 1977 to 1980. I have this set that I picked up in Mannheim, at the rhineneckar zentrum

Berlin was quite an experience at the time.

My father bought this set for himself in the years when I was still involved in marklin trains as a teen. I didn't know he had it until the 1990s. I eventually inherited it. The box is in worse shape than yours (tape etc.). I have decided that there are enough people saving intact sets. I thus run and enjoy these locomotives.

No doubt our dealer who we knew well is the person who alerted him to it and took the order.

They are yours, you do want you want with them; what others think or do doesn't matter, as long as you are enjoying yourself.

Another great insight to the new collection. Your display is inspirational 😁 Totally agree with visiting Berlin, I was first there as a very small boy, as the wall was being built!

You would have to have a layout with mines (iron, coal), trains transporting the ore to a blast furnace producing iron, then trains transporting the metal to a locomotive factory. Then these locomotive could get out of the locomotive factory and go to a paint shop, and their painted equivalent models would get out to further run trains fetching iron and coal. (with shadow tracks to loop around recycling the unpainted models) ;-). Anyways, how do you justify bringing in new models (locomotives and wagons), if you don't have train factories in your layout? "Hand of god"?

That would indeed be a way to include these items in a theme if you are a modeller. You could also simply pretend and rely on good old imagination with no scenery. There is no right way to do this, just different approaches.

My last wife was stationed as a Woman's Army Captain in Berlin from 1947 and was a fluent Russian speaker - she was an Intelligence Officer - but at least once a week she and colleagues would meet up with Russians but very proper. These were European Russians not the hated Slavs. She rambled by train all over Western Germany and had a pleasant if sad time. She brought back Marklin sets for her younger brother .....quality. My first wife who died too young was an ex BDM Bavarian and regarded Berlin as degenerate!! But we too had fun on trains with wooden seats and tidy little engines - all a bit Marklinish and far from that beautiful set you filmed here.

Berlin was indeed a strange place and was quite an adventure for people in intelligence circles... Thanks for your visit.
