I recently received a Märklin 3319 class 50 of the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) which I acquired at auction. The listing stated the model was in very good condition with the added convenience of a "service with clock oil". Was this a good buy? Was the "service with clock oil" worth mentioning? It certainly sounded good...
We shall find out together as I look at this locomotive for the first time. On the way, you will find a model overview, high level information about the prototype for context, model unboxing as well as matching stock suggestion if available.

I just purchased a Marklin 3319 for one hundred dollars and twelve to ship from New Jersey. The e-bay seller mostly sold clothes and nik naks. It is marked as new w/box and the pictures represent this. I can't wait for it to arrive. Thank you for another oustanding video and for sharing your Knowledge with us. :)

a graphite number 2 pencil is good for lubicating the axles! and even metal gears

Hello. This is a very attractive model. And a useful video for doing the routine maintenance. Did you also oil the bearings of the motor ? I think this new type of motor also requires periidic lubrification with a very fluid oil, to avoid blockage when the oil dries up.

Hello Philippe. Thanks a lot, it is indeed a nice model.
I put some lithium grease on the ends of the motor armature, it is long lasting and doesn't harden over time. For the rest of the lubrication, I use Ballistol which doesn't resinify over time unlike the Märklin oil. I usually don't touch the bearings inside the motor housing, unless something is blocked which is very rare, what does get stuck most of the time is the axle bearings, I had a similar problem with another BR50, the 3315, which was the topic of a "fix it" video on the channel back a few months ago.
      Thanks for your visit.
      PS: loved your Crocodiles!

Beautiful loco! One question though: did the real locomotive have the last 2 driven axles pivoted? I cannot understand how the coupling rod can transmit power between two adjacent driving axles which are not parallel to each other. Also, some of the modern model locos have a single axle with a gear. The power to the remaining axles is transmitted through the coupling rods, just like in real life. Why does this model have gears on each axle? Thank you very much in advance

I think you know the answers already... Thanks for the visit.

@@The3rdRail : I did not know the answer when I posted the last comment. However, I know it now. The model you have is not realistic when it comes to the frame. In real life the frame is rigid with axles having side play, i.e., golsdorf axis. Your model's frame is articulated because the curves are tighter in model than in real life. The roco model I have ordered is more realistic because it does not have pivoted frame.
