Quick one this week: a few items from the shelf...
Some models left dormant on the back of the shelf for the last 10 years: Märklin 34158, a CFL class 56 and Märklin 43971, a set of historic CFL coaches, both 50th CFL anniversary editions released in 1996/
A recent addition: Märklin 2846, a track cleaning train of the CFL, released in 1989

I have the 34158 .. I liked it so much I ditched the delta module and upgraded it to mfx sound with a 5 pole motor… runs cherry 🍒 now!

I'm learning my way around the intricacies of Marklin analogue and your videos are very helpful and a bit of an inspiration.
Your maintenance sequencies help a lot and I find that I now can 'dive in' with a lower chance of wrecking things.
Today has been a strip down and clean up of the triple solenoid 7041 signal which was a lot of nail biting fun. A very ingenious little mechanism. Got there in the end and it works as it should. I find your videos encouraged me to have a go and that is what it is all about.

Good heavens, your collection is again just astounding, very much like a library of a certain era with intriguing surprises. The 34158 seems to be a Delta decoded loco to our understanding. The lights seem to work on analogue though but dim. Delta still does confuse us. We've been told that on some of the Delta locos the lights work on analogue with brightness depending on speed, and on some they don't work at all. No idea. We still avoid them as it is new terrain here for us. Delta seemed to have been continued for a very long time though. Perhaps we should have a closer look. Anyway, fantastic items in your collection even out of your 1980s scope. We wish you a very happy Xmas 🎄🎅🎁
With this loco the brightness depends on the speed. It is officially equipped with "Universalelektronik", the name that came after delta, when Märklin discontinued analogue only locomotives in the mid 1990s. I think this remained on offer for the following 10-15 years or so... Thanks for the visit. Best wishes.

I think there are even some 34xx that aren't Delta :-o
The delta decoders I know have four small switches but someone told me the early ones hadn't and address changes had to be made by opening and closing soldering connections.
And some needed a certain switch setting for analog operation.
@@jochenkraus7016 Thanks. We've just checked this at 3rail Wiki. That's in Dutch but I can read it (was born there) The 6603 decoder (Delta) came in 2 series. The 1st has these soldering points. 2nd Series 4 dip switches indeed. For the 1st series the brightness of the lights depend on speed on analogue (no lights when standing still). So yeah, that someone seems to be correct.
Very nice.
The steam engine is pretty great.
But my personal highlight of the video is actually the track cleaning train.
It is an extremely nice, little set.
Though it is depicted like this on the box it is actually supposed to run backwards, if I recall correctly, with the locomotive being turned around and pushing the train.
But it's a very nice one either way.
Always nice to learn something new, 🙏
Thinking about this a bit more, a strict push configuration seems unlikely, imagine the overhead of having to turn anything around before each assignment, especially at a time when turntables were already a thing of the past... @@The3rdRail What I meant is that the loco would run with the control cabin at the end of the train either pulling backward or pushing forward.
The #1 car has a control cabin, so I think we can safely assume that the train can be controlled like most modern trains from whichever end is convenient.
I didn't express myself correctly before, but that is essentially what I meant.
