It's still revolutionary in my opinion. The next leap forward for robo-vacs is suction power comparable with an upright vacuum. This sets the bar for every other manufacturer.
Great review!!!! I really think Dyson needs to step up their robot vacuum game! For 1200 dollars, it’s such a disappointing product with lackluster features
@@jankington216 ?? The fact there’s no auto empty base for over 1 grand is laughable. A fool and his money are easily parted. Keep throwing away your money it’s not my problem
@@iDeadlyyyNot Sure if you own any, but I only own one and my first Dyson V11 Absolute and its design and product quality and suction is far better than any other available product during my purchase time 3 years ago
@@cbennett1 I have a V12, and think the same; expensive but it’s a very good machine and in MHO, better then the competition. I wish they would mimic that level of Quality and features with their robot line up.
The bin is definitely NOT larger than average. In order for the cyclonic filtration to work properly, you must empty it as soon as it reaches the MAX level, which as you can see is pretty low. If you don't empty it when it reaches MAX, the amazing air filtration Dyson is known for is reduced and the filter begins having to filter significantly more dirt and debris, which can clog the filters quickly.
Yup performance will be impacted as this fills up, which i think this goes without saying. However, this does not debunk the fact, that this currently has the largest dustbin of any robot vacuum
Love the bin-setup, the on-board cyclone should help solve the issue that robot vacuums have with their small filters getting clogged rather quickly reducing performance. It'd be interesting to see a "after 7 days of use" measured, to compare the degradation in suction/pick-up over time. You'd probably have to do this synthetically with a predefined amount of powder (to simulate debris) being loaded into the vacuum. It's one of those "unknown" values that no one measures right now because the assumption is that the auto-empty will work just fine, but that rarely clears a filter compacted with fine dust. I hate the color choice, the fact it has no auto-empty, and the choice to put the camera on top so it struggles to see objects in front (even iRobot figured out that they should move it to the front at an angle to handle both the ceiling feature for location markers and the object detection at ground level) ... and the drunken sailor navigation algorithm.
I have noticed that VSLAM vacuums are usually worse at navigation then LiDAR. And basically always worse then Camera + LiDAR combo systems, which is what you find in the $1200 price range. It hurts to see Dyson insist on keeping VSLAM only on this despite them having other impressive capabilities. Great review!! Looking foward to see your upcoming review of the Ascender vacuum bot.
Insane price for performance. I was really hoping Dyson could make an automated carpet deep cleaning machine this time around. Unfortunately they spend so much on R&D for the cyclone system (thus extra suction) that every other feature suffers (navigation/mop) making for a meh product.
Why did you buy this???? A powerful suction power is useless if the robot itself is dumb and can't clean properly and lacks an emptying base. I just can't understand what anyone would choose this above any of the vastly superior competitors.
I was super impressed with its cleaning power and easy app, but returned it since the navigation sucked and couldn’t vacuum in the dark. Also it has a design flaw and the lens on top is easily damaged.
The value proposition is simple for me, the only vacuum you recommended for hair when I took your recommendation on my last pass through really was pretty horrible at exactly that... The vacuum I bought before that without doing user reviews or checking online was better purely by chance (Avoid Shark products as far as I'm concerned regardless of reccomndations from consumer product reviewers, some weird bias towards meaningless features when the products primary function is weak it seems to me). This just actually did the job better than any others, my carpets are actually clean, which is kind of the point, a low review when it does the primary function better than anything else on the market seems off to me. The idea that I can add an amazing feature package to a product that's designed to vacuum when it sucks at vacuuming and it somehow gets a better recommendations is weird to me.
I like that thing, and I have been buying Dysons for years, but the lack of the auto-empty bin and obstacle avoidance (I have a dog, this is non-negotiable) nake it a non-starter for me. They are almost there!
I had the original Dyson 360 Eye when it released. That was one of the best robot vacuums I have used. Dyson dropped support, and bought it back under warranty.
Hey, Vacuum Wars! Another great video! I'm really curious about how you do the effect at 5:03 where the vacuum leaves a trail. I'd really appreciate if you could share how you did it.
saw another video that said firmware update significantly improved this with regards to object avoidance, mapping, etc etc. Can you revisit? I feel like a real vacuum that can clean deeply is a very valid product segment regardless of not having a mop. No bags too, which is great.
I rent, and I don’t know how old is the carpet. Before I bought it, I used a v10 with carpet head, and patiently move 1 cm per second through the room - and havest fine dust that maybe could fit a 200ml can from 35 sqm carpet. And if I have the time to do it again, the volume of dust wasn’t significant lower. considering recharging time, it took days to finish one room. So I bought it - the most promising one by looking the structure. I think it could match 20 % of result compare to me manually deep clean. I think it’s amazing because that deep clean takes an hour to finish 2 sqm. I scheduled it 3 times a day. The first week, every day, it sucks out some tiny things that I’m sure belong to previous tenants that even my manual deep clean couldn’t fully clean out - it was actually enjoyable to clean the bin as I see my place getting cleaner every day. Now after 2 month, we have so much more confidence on the carpet than before. Well worth the money as its strength happens to be what I need most.
Looks like a Neato robotics vacuum, except they used lidar but with all the auto empty and mopping bots out there they have now gone under. So if you like the Dyson maybe consider an old Neato, you can get them quite cheap now, they also had great suction.
Yes Neato was amazing on carpet….i was really bummed that they went under. If they could have done the auto empty/ wash and dry I would have definitely bought one!!
Im honestly flabbergasted at Dysons robot vaccs. No idea wtf they are thinking and how they think someones going to cough up that much money for a complete sub par vacuum
Dyson is a company that's extremely good at making basic products unnecessarily complex and overpriced. This doesn't translate well when they have to make a product that's highly complex by nature.
They went into a cave and improved their previous design and vacuum function, but when they came back out of the cave the world was already far advanced thus leaving them behind again. Unfortunately doesn't look like a good value considering the others with impressive suction and all modern features in robot vac tech. They will get there in the next version.
It does have cyclonic filtration and does not rely on only a filter unlike every other bagless robot. It also cleans the bin lint filter every time you empty. And of course it has a motor that competitors can't even compete with Dyson with power efficiency on cordless stick vacuums. I did mention power efficiency, but Dyson is overpowering their machine even on low power so it does have terrible battery life.
I was ready to demote our Roborock Q5 Plus to the basement and have this as our main floor vacuum. Not now! I’ll stick with their stick cordless vacuums for now and keep the Q5 as our main vacuum. So disappointing!
Mlre excited about a review of the Migo Ascender that you have mentioned before. They seem to be interested in sending you one, though only after the Kickstarter ends. That's slightly suspicious. I'm a backer for now, but I might drop out before the end of the Kickstarter campaign as it seems a bit risky. I would love to have a stair climbing vacuum robot though.
Exactly my thoughts, I would really like to see a review of that thing. IF, it holds up to claims, it will be a game changer, but I have a lot of doubts Best of luck on your support though, I hope it works out.
This is a tough one. While I'm a big fan of Dyson, this robot just seems dated to me. VSLAM ain't the best system, and the only reliable one is iRobot's. Dyson could make so much more with this robot. Just put in a larger battery, put a LIDAR scanner on top, and make a bin-emptying station. They could even tether it with some cordless vacuum, or put a cyclone unit there. I hope they'll sort it out with the next model, with all the great engineers they have, I'm sure they can pull it off.
There is a major issue that isnt mentioned on this review, this robot NEEDS a lot of space around its dock, its not like other units that claim to need clearance around the base and still work if you don't follow that advice. The dyson will get lost as soon as the base doesn't have the space that it needs around it, it wont be able to navigate the house properly.
Nope, I’ll keep my Roomba S9+. No auto-empty is a deal breaker. That’s why I got rid of my Neato D7 a few years ago for my first Roomba i7+. Our house is mostly hardwood and I use an upright vacuum at least once a week on the carpet, so not replacing deep cleaning with a robot.
IMHO D-brush vacuums are much better than central rollers, I've owned both, and it's a huge difference. Problem for me is $1200 with no self-emptying is a deal killer.
Sorry if this has been commented before but, will you be revisiting this robot vacuum? I've seen in more than a few places that the things that sounded software related (such as navigation) have supposedly improved more than before after a few updates and it would be interesting to see if that is true and how much it has changed things.
Hi! I backed a project on kickstarter and now I'm waiting for arrival of UBPet V10 - basically looks like a Dyson, but has lidar - and through kickstarter it was 4 times cheeper than dyson. Are you going to test it? On the ad it looked very promising, and had no hair tangle features.
that heat map for the dirt levels in your house is a really cool feature. aside form the sheer power of this thing too bad the rest of the vacuum is a letdown
Great to know. I'm looking for a replacement to the Neato D7 (purchased on your recommendation years ago and has been phenomenal) now that NEATO ist kaput. (Intentional). I have a hard time going back from the D shape so this is appealing. I might wait for the next generation Dyson. I'm also looking at the Eufy S1 because that Rollermop design is awesome (and I only have hard floor, no carpet)
Honestly the first two cons are not much of an issue for me- most mop vacuum imo don’t really clean that well and just smear the dirt. The third one is an issue and hopefully will be corrected in future models.
@@hieromonk120 You think this thing is worth the money because it can vacuum under beds? Their are many other robots that do the same thing and also include the aforementioned features
@@MitchM240 well for me it was worth it because of the brand and design and I love how the apps connect all the products together like an ecosystem I I admit as a vacuum product this one isn’t competitive enough, but I like how this brand overall well themselves As you can see, I’m using the Dyson zone where everyone shit on it
@@hieromonk120 why would you have brand loyalty for an admittedly inferior product. I love Apple I use most of their products. From time to time they make bad ones like their terrible mouse. I don’t defend it. It sucks. Just because I like the brand doesn’t mean I need to defend everyone of their products. Please explain to me how a vacuum fits into an ecosystem because I really don’t see how that can benefit you the same way an Apple ecosystem can. How do their vacuums work together in an ecosystem? Just because they use the same app is that what you’re talking about? That’s not an ecosystem. I think you are trying to make yourself feel better about spending an obscene amount of money on a robot vacuum. Don’t encourage mediocrity if you like the brand. They will never improve.
@@MitchM240 have been using it a few times after receiving the delivery It was quite good clean up my place thoroughly,, and I liked it don’t have a huge disposal station like the others
Great review. Dyson is charging around $1200 for this, not worth it. As you said, no mop, no self empty bin, the navigation system is behind the times, Lidar is definitely better than vslam, Lidar maps much faster and works when it's dark. If you run it on max power, apparently the battery only lasts around 20 minutes. This is a total rip off in my opinion. One robot I would definitely suggest you review is the new Narwal Freo X Ultra. It's unique because rather than using a self empty station, the dust bag goes in to the robot itself and the mopping performance is excellent.
This could have been a great robot vacuum 7-8 years ago but now apart from its raw power, it is behind in every other area. This looks like a side project for Dyson.
Something to point out is it has cyclones to separate the dust to keep suction high whereas most in not all other robots don't. Also the Vis Nav was never advertised as having an auto empty bin or moping. Maybe Dyson can improve on navigation in the future software updates and it should get better after consistent usage.
After having an auto empty bin I don't think I could ever buy a robot vacuum without it. Just because of how much dust my pets generate. So unfortunately I will always complain about flagship vacuums that don't have it.
@@Morberis then let's hope Dyson comes out with some type of self emptying bin with Cinetic science and a self-cleaning shroud for when you empty that bin
On robot vacuums this may be a little difficult, since there is no intake to get to unless you tip the robot upside down. Causing it to shut off until flipping it back over.
heyo love the video. i want exactly this.. no mob cause i really think they just spread the dirt. no auto empty station cause i think they just make u buy their dustbags and are more of a hassle than they are helping. but with top navigation (LIDAR) and obstacle avoidance since i have a only 60 m² Appartement and its kinda crammed with furniture and i need the robot to do its best to find a way in all the areas ? any suggestions im kinda getting lost in this topic for days
You should NOT give Dyson any benefit of any doubt. For that price, it: 1) Doesn’t map properly 2) Has awful battery life 3) Has no mopping function 4) Doesn’t have an auto-emptying dock 5) Uses VSLAM (no LIDAR) 6) Doesn’t always vacuum all areas 7) Has an outdated app But hey, at least it has an incredibly overpowered motor that doesn’t even outperform on carpet. I like Dyson. I’ve bought quite a few of their vacuums. But this is a terrible product that should not be bought.
You missed an important detail that especially flawed your carpet vacuuming testing results : while using auto mode and detecting dirt the robots also slows down while boosting. This improves deep cleaning performance a lot even compared to manual set boost mode because of the slowdown. According to my carpet testing using certified testdust the robot is a top 2 performer and i am testing several types of carpets. Also want to know which firmware version the robot runs while testing the navigation?
the new one is way too wide as almost all other robots on the market. the advantage of the 360 eye and 360 heurist was that it cleaned even tight spaces where no other robot was able to. this was unique to dysons robots.
Its goof to see Dyson went with the front brush, as center brush bots are horrible. They always just end up having stuff lodged between the bot & the floor and scraping floors.
@@Morberis Its way better, having the brush under the bot simply makes no sense. As the bot has to first run over everything it vacuums. So if something is bigger or about the same size as the gap between the floor & bots bottom it either cant vacuum it or it gets lodged between the bot & the floor.
Why would you even consider? Im expecting to use my s7maxv for years. Not like theres been that much improvents worth looking a new vacuum. Better corner coverage is literally the only thing ive seen that i thought was an actual evolvement and that alone aint even close to make me consider if its worth the investment.
this reminds me of those old 90's vacuums with the big bags and high suction power without the brushes. they did away with those designs mostly because it was excessive for most homes
I'm betting that Dyson thinks it doesn't need to have an auto-emptying dock because it incorporates their dust bin tech into the robot. Personally I don't like dust bags due to fees, so I was kind of hoping they would do something like Eureka or Shark, if they want to use dust bins...
I think Dyson's triple roller is causing too much friction on the rugs. Making it a waste of battery. And they sacrificed a ton of space with their turbine or whatever is called system.. Yes, it has suction power and we do appreciate the HEPA..😊, but I don't think Dysons signature system should be jammed in a tiny vacuum... But even with that said. I refuse to buy a vacuum with a camera connected to the internet.
I like the form factor. I wish more robot vacuums were just a normal brushhead instead of weird little circles with tiny brushes underneath. Now someone needs to make an ACTUAL floor-washing robot like the ILife Shinebot (but self-emptying/cleaning and less jank).
I think Dyson makes good vacuum sticks but I wouldn’t give my roborock s7 maxv for this. I think Dyson is capable of creating something great but they are focused on the wrong features.
There are directional LiDAR systems now that operate out of a directional cowl and don't scan the 70% of the rotation in the cowl; so don't know why some companies are so put off by it. VSLAM is very hard to get right from a software standpoint; took Tesla years..... and even then it's never ever going to be as reliable as LiDAR. Companies like Dyson need to just contract or develop their own smaller directional LiDAR systems which stand mid on the front of the vacuum and also which are vastly easier to hide than the spinning disk on top.
I have been happy with my 360 S10 but I don't think I know another vacuum that uses a recessed LiDAR sensor. It has some interesting navigation quirks, like spinning around to actually map a room and locate itself and the sensor can act as a obstacle detector as it is lower than the dome, but they definitely haven't taken off as I expected they would to make lower profile robovacs.
I could forgive it everything for that power and that filtration, but at that price and for that lack of feature, navigation should be *perfect* instead in navigate worse than some 10 year old robots
In my opinion, Dyson has a history of selling inferior products while praising them as the very best. Anyone remember the cordless vacuum that would cycle on and off to signal that the filter was clogged? Instead of adding a display.

that heat map for the dirt levels in your house is a really cool feature. aside form the sheer power of this thing too bad the rest of the vacuum is a letdown
Maybe a test of putting powder into carpet and see how much fine powder a machine could suck out to measure the fine dust extraction efficiency.
As usual, Dyson made their product as if competing products didn't exist. They are the Apple of the Vacuum world.
Love the videos. Can you test how menny square meters a robo vac can do on a single charge. Better than navigation score or battery time statistic.
I sincerely hope this one is better than all the other Dysons, in my experience they are very quick broken.
I don’t understand who this vacuum is for? Why would anyone spend this much without mopping, auto empty and lidar?
So you saying you have been enjoying cleaning under the bed and hard to reach places or vacuuming yourself so much?
@@hieromonk120 You think this thing is worth the money because it can vacuum under beds? Their are many other robots that do the same thing and also include the aforementioned features
@@MitchM240 well for me it was worth it because of the brand and design and I love how the apps connect all the products together like an ecosystem
I I admit as a vacuum product this one isn’t competitive enough, but I like how this brand overall well themselves
As you can see, I’m using the Dyson zone where everyone shit on it
@@hieromonk120 why would you have brand loyalty for an admittedly inferior product.
@@MitchM240 have been using it a few times after receiving the delivery
It was quite good clean up my place thoroughly,, and I liked it don’t have a huge disposal station like the others
Will you be doing the switchbot S10?? 🧐 that seems to be a very intriguing piece of kit..
Those docking station white/black blocks are super ugly too
This could have been a great robot vacuum 7-8 years ago but now apart from its raw power, it is behind in every other area.
Why no filtration tests for robot vacuums?
On robot vacuums this may be a little difficult, since there is no intake to get to unless you tip the robot upside down. Causing it to shut off until flipping it back over.
A 2019 robot at 2024 flagship pricing 🤑
heyo love the video. i want exactly this.. no mob cause i really think they just spread the dirt. no auto empty station cause i think they just make u buy their dustbags and are more of a hassle than they are helping. but with top navigation (LIDAR) and obstacle avoidance since i have a only 60 m² Appartement and its kinda crammed with furniture and i need the robot to do its best to find a way in all the areas ? any suggestions im kinda getting lost in this topic for days
I'm looking forward for the Dreame x40 Ultra review. the best and first fully self sustained robot.
That X40 review is up now: th-cam.com/video/8XL9RMVFbKY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6nksfymatV3f1ZGk
powerful cleaning capabilities and convenience
I assume it can be set to only use low power and not increase with dust levels?
Nice video thanks for the information
No problem 👍
Can you do one on roomba i4
music at the end SCARED THE F OUT OF ME lol thought something fell or crashed hahaha... love the video
Where can we see the spreadsheet comparing the ones you’ve reviewed?
You should NOT give Dyson any benefit of any doubt. For that price, it:
1) Doesn’t map properly
2) Has awful battery life
3) Has no mopping function
4) Doesn’t have an auto-emptying dock
5) Uses VSLAM (no LIDAR)
6) Doesn’t always vacuum all areas
7) Has an outdated app
But hey, at least it has an incredibly overpowered motor that doesn’t even outperform on carpet.
I like Dyson. I’ve bought quite a few of their vacuums. But this is a terrible product that should not be bought.
Let's not forget the 5 inch height so it can't get under furniture and D-shape, which is prone to getting stuck 🙂.
PLEASE TEST DEEBOT X2 and ROBOROCK S8 MAXV ULTRA!
How does it compare to the S9+? Seems like its natural contender.
the new one is way too wide as almost all other robots on the market. the advantage of the 360 eye and 360 heurist was that it cleaned even tight spaces where no other robot was able to. this was unique to dysons robots.
Thanks for the review, very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Max Power here 🎉
Can you review the shark stratos duo clean corded stick vacuum MODEL HZ3002 🙏
When lower the price i will buy it
Its goof to see Dyson went with the front brush, as center brush bots are horrible. They always just end up having stuff lodged between the bot & the floor and scraping floors.
Interesting. All I've ever had is center brush bots and I've never had an issue. Good to know for the future that front brush IS better though
@@Morberis Its way better, having the brush under the bot simply makes no sense. As the bot has to first run over everything it vacuums. So if something is bigger or about the same size as the gap between the floor & bots bottom it either cant vacuum it or it gets lodged between the bot & the floor.
@@Nobody-Nowhere D-shape robots get stuck all the time.
@@sfchrisrom better that that scraping the floors with stuff that gets lodged under a round bot
Im confused? It is advertised with obstacle avoidance.
It's avoiding you furniture not you dog Poop and your kids toys and shoes.
The value proposition is the brand name. And people will buy it because the name is synonymous with vacuums.
Yes , and they do have the best design on the market
I just bought it and waiting for a delivery
Each of the cons mentioned is a huge deal breaker for me especially considering its price. I'm sticking with S7 Max Ultra. Thanks for the review!
Why would you even consider? Im expecting to use my s7maxv for years.
Not like theres been that much improvents worth looking a new vacuum. Better corner coverage is literally the only thing ive seen that i thought was an actual evolvement and that alone aint even close to make me consider if its worth the investment.
@@Lapinmiez I’m not considering now that I got my s7 max ultra. Before I got it I was hoping the dyson would be good but it’s just another cash grab.
Finally your real voice is back
this reminds me of those old 90's vacuums with the big bags and high suction power without the brushes. they did away with those designs mostly because it was excessive for most homes
I'm betting that Dyson thinks it doesn't need to have an auto-emptying dock because it incorporates their dust bin tech into the robot.
Personally I don't like dust bags due to fees, so I was kind of hoping they would do something like Eureka or Shark, if they want to use dust bins...
Just suck that dust bag using another bag-less Dyson if you want to be economical or turn it off.
This guy must have the cleanest household ever
Our cats have their way of making sure we don't! 😸
Great work!
Thanks!
dyson might be a Nokia in robot vacuum industry
I like the form factor. I wish more robot vacuums were just a normal brushhead instead of weird little circles with tiny brushes underneath. Now someone needs to make an ACTUAL floor-washing robot like the ILife Shinebot (but self-emptying/cleaning and less jank).
Round shape is best to access difficult areas, D-shape such as this robot has been shown to be suboptimal.
I think Dyson makes good vacuum sticks but I wouldn’t give my roborock s7 maxv for this. I think Dyson is capable of creating something great but they are focused on the wrong features.
i love the game boy colorwave
Dyson focuses a lot on the hardware of their products. But customer usability is not one of their strong points and neither is software.
And still NOT self emptying! Omg lol
Videoda gösterildiği gibi kenarları almıyor. Pervaz köşelerini temizlemiyor maalesef
Can you do a review on roborock s8 max v ultra
How tall is it please?
In my opinion, Dyson has a history of selling inferior products while praising them as the very best. Anyone remember the cordless vacuum that would cycle on and off to signal that the filter was clogged? Instead of adding a display.
Yes 🙌
