      There are three things I don't like about Dyson vacuums. 1) I don't like the motor up high which puts strain on the wrist. 2) I don't like having a bagless vacuum. 3) I don't like the Candy Land colors. These three qualms seem innocuous but there are many, many people who won't switch from a Miele or a Sebo to a Dyson for these reasons. If Dyson moved the motor closer to the floor, not only would this improve suction but the weight on the wrist and forearm would be relieved as the weight is transferred to the floor. Also, for many of us, bagless vacuums are awful. The clear plastic bin gets filthy and scratched and dumping the dust is a mess. The vacuum will forever be in a permanent state of dirt. Sure, you can clean the dust bin but will you? Bags, on the other hand, are easy to dispose of. They aren't messy but, of course, bags are not "green." Miele and Sebo could make bags that break down in the landfill over time. Lastly, vacuums are machines. Why does anyone want to own a vacuum with a purple wand? Of the three issues, this is the least problematic of the three but don't discount the people who buy vacuums based on the lack of color. If Dyson would make a cordless stick vacuum addressing these issues, it would spell extend Dyson's line and continue to squeeze other manufacturers.

    6:16… So THAT’S what those two rocket booster resembling nodes are for on the wall mount! Thing of it is, I thought the charger was supposed to connect up with the wall mount, but apparently not. I just bought a GEN 5 detect about a week ago. Takes a little getting used to, but I’m liking it. I do especially like that “laser guided” hard floor attachment. I only wish the other carpet floor attachment also had a laser light, especially since most of my condo is carpet.

    Good to see they've stuck to the power button over the trigger. However they really should've gone with the V12 type, where you can just slap the top of the motor, for quick on/off switching.

    These are so good. They suck up a lot of debris, putting a big demand on capacity something that Dyson should pay attention to because if you have to do a large amount of area you have to clear out the filter many times therefore an increase in capacity would be a big plus… Keep on rocking

    First Dyson I’ve bought I love how good my gen5 detect cleans but the only negative for me so far is it stalls quite often on thicker carpet so I’m going to use it for another week and see if it’s still doing so i might just trade it in for the outside which I’ve heard it doesn’t stall at all

    Looking at the specs/performance for the newer cordless vacuums, they look very similar to the corded upright vacuums. We have a Dyson animal ball and we’re wondering if we can outright replace it with a newer cordless model. Is that practical if we get the v12/v15/Gen5?

  • @Mandy-gz1xl
    @Mandy-gz1xl 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As always, thank you SO MUCH for your reviews!! :) I purchase the Gen5 Detect today, and I’m so excited to get it!!! 😃 I’m returning the v12, because although it’s amazing, my 3 cats and golden retriever literally fill the bin in a few passes, so it’s been frustrating having to empty it so often.
    I have a Shark Stratos upright, and I LOVE it!!! That thing will suck everything that’s ever been in your carpet right out! 😂 And I love the big bin size! But I have serious health issues, and it’s 17 pounds, clunky, and not an easy to use the lift away part due to being corded and just not ergonomic for me personally.
    So I’ll use the Shark Stratos for an occasional extra deep clean, and I’ll use the Gen5 otherwise! Can’t wait to clean all the cobwebs and everything! And I got the extension hose and Dyson grooming kit for dogs! So this Gen5 is actually kind of saving me money, because I’ve been looking for a grooming brush/vacuum machine. And I was going to buy other things to do baseboards, etc.
    So the Gen5 and its attachments (definitely check out the Dyson website for how awesome they are!) will actually be about the same price as all of those together plus it’s less craziness! Haha
    It’s still funny to me that I’m buying a Dyson, because the Dyson vacuums I’ve come across in the past were horrible. But now… they just rule the cordless game! (Sorry, Shark! I love ya but your attachments, etc just don’t have game in this area lol)
    So I’m a surprised Dyson convert! 😂
    And Dyson has even made their cordless vacs pretty! Haha Who would have thunk that would happen?! Haha
    Thank you for all your help on buying machines!! You seem like a nice person, as well as, really good at this! Thanks again! 😊💕

    Hey mate, used to be a Dyson employee and totally agree that the new Fluffy Optic is much better than the laser slim fluffy head. For reference, it’s not a laser anymore, it’s an LED now. The laser had too much heat build-up so couldn’t be bright enough. The LED is much better.
    Would always recommend the smaller model to anyone who wonders, just like the V11 to V11 outsize, the smalller model is more convenient and thus will get used more often, negating the benefit of the larger bin for most people.

    is the gen5 outsize a step backwards in performance for that form factor? the V11 outsize scored 100 on the carpet test and had higher unsealed suction ratings, essentially the same as the regular gen5 (and the V15) at about 2.5 kPa. why would dyson nerf the performance from one generation to the next?

    This would be my first Dyson product as I’m returning the Shark Stratos cordless today and getting the Outsize. I’ve only ever used Shark products with the latest being the Vertex and now 2 days with the Stratos cordless. The value of the extra $100 for what would be a $150 battery if I wanted to buy it from Dyson later is one thing. Dust capacity being better at .5 gal vs .2 gal, although I just came from a Shark Vertex that had a .25 gal dust capacity so that doesn’t really matter either I guess. Understanding the unsealed suction is worse because of the added almost 3” on the cleaning path width (9.84” detect vs 12.6” outsize)(10” on Stratos Cordless). The Shark Stratos upright has .76 kpa unsealed vs the 1.74 kpa on the Outsize. The Stratos cordless (returning) at .95 unsealed kpa meaning that even with the outsize being bigger and worse than the detect, it still has better suction in sealed and unsealed than both Stratos cordless and upright. Understanding the larger canister will be more to maneuver and 1lb heavier -I’m getting the extended hose attachment which will make situations of attachment cleaning the same as an upright similar to that of the Shark Lift-Away feature.

    Just bought the Gen5 and I can say it's worth every penny spent on it. True, it's a bit on a heavier side, so I'd rather use it only for cleaning floors and sofas (its bulkiness makes it really unhandy for cleaning dust off furniture), but the amounts of dirt and dust it swallows is simply incredible. My 1200 watt Thomas Aqua seems powerful, but to half-fill its 0.7 liter paper bag, it took me generally two full cleaning sessions of the whole 75 sqm flat. Meanwhile Dyson produced the same amount in just ONE two-minute session where I vacuumed only half of a 3x3m carpet. Amazing.

    Nice review! I’d prefer the regular gen5 too over the outsize. The outsize looks too big for a handheld vacuum. However I would’ve liked to see the suction and airflow numbers compared to previous models. I also would’ve liked to see the carpet deep clean results on the other power levels, especially auto mode with the gates closed. I feel that’s the best setting to use for whole house cleaning.

    • @mainsource8030

      i returned the regular gen 5 due to the severe clamping to most of my rugs/carpets even with gates open on eco. i had a feeling that the slightly bigger head on the outsize would alleviate this, and it did. Now the gen 5 outsize is just a little worse with clamping than my v15 detect was. Im sure with auto mode the gen 5 would get a 100 on deep cleaning considering much weaker dysons get 100 in the same test

      When you consider that this is something you'll use every week for years, the price becomes a lot more palatable imo.
      You can buy decent $300 cordless vacuums, yes, but they have less suction, worse battery, heavier, louder, and won't last as long.
      Consider the experience of using the product actually without value too. It's expensive, but at the end of the day you're getting the best possible experience. That's what you're paying for more than anything.

    • @magicmulder
      @magicmulder ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jojag5 That's usually my reasoning for things I use for hours a day, like bed and TV, but four figures for a vacuum cleaner is kinda a lot.
      My v6 cost me about 330 bucks way back then. This time I may go with a v15 for around 650. That's double the price in just like eight years.

      i returned the regular gen 5 due to the severe clamping to most of my rugs/carpets even with gates open on eco. i had a feeling that the slightly bigger head on the outsize would alleviate this, and it did. Now the gen 5 outsize is just a little worse with clamping than my v15 detect was. Im sure with auto mode the gen 5 would get a 100 on deep cleaning considering much weaker dysons get 100 in the same test

    Even the best performing vacuum will diminish greatly as the filter clogs.

    • @asus816
      @asus816 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dyson filters are washable; so it's hard to say when you'd personally change it. Ideally when washing is no longer viable but that's going to vary from home to home.
      Price wise they cost around $30.
