I used to live in a single home and moved away because of noise from bars, drunks, busy road, loud music. I found a nice apartment in a quiet area only to have upstairs neighbors stomping, banging, slamming, smashing things constantly day and night. I've come to the conclusion any place with people near by will be noisy and thinking about getting myself a tent and living in the wilderness.
People who walk like that do it on purpose, I know this after renting for almost 20 years. I've had a couple decent neighbors, but most are psychos that are hellbent on making you experience whatever noise they create because they are narcissists.
Everything you said with your upstairs neighbors is my same issue. Management has spoken to them and they just don't care. They walk so hard popcorn paint falls from my ceiling. They have wood floors and they move and roll furniture all day and all night. They are so loud I've recorded them and it picks up on my phone. You can feel the vibrations on the floor from how hard they walk. It's so bad that from lack of sleep, my BP has gone up, I get to work so tired I'm not productive, and I know they have never lost any sleep over me keeping them up. Finally the office agreed I could give a 60 day to break my lease, and I'm looking at homes to buy now and haven't found anything. I think I'm just going to rent a house because I can't take it anymore.
CRYING BABY!!! Turn on a recording. Find one on YT. I complained to property management company and nothing happened. I started playing baby, and it pissed off all the neighbors. The property management company couldn't say a word to me about the noise because it's a BABY. The neighbors did the dirty work and complained about the crying baby, so the property manager was forced to confront him. Dude was gone in a few months.

I know the feeling, noisy people , I have been on the receiving end I have made noise in past no longer and delt with my neighbors down stairs & me, we all to live & function trying to focus and function properly, I found out last Sunday, that my new neighbor was unaware off noise levels in the block of flats, so , It started off, 10:30am loud music-11am , heavy stomping around 1:30pm with boom, clunk sound and loud bang at 9:30pm , his mate & him mucked about, so decided to head upstairs and start chatting to him nicely,I know that he plays Darts 🎯 and you still hear it every night at same time, I got use to it, but least i know what it is, sounds like a couple shagging, the headboard bangs against the wall, at least he knows he has to be quiet between 11pm -7am, so now writing his movements down, I work around him, trying to get my life back on track doing the things I love
3:56 I have lived in a few countries and from my experience, all buildings are crappy, it does not matter where they are located. After I completed 1 year of living in my current building, 2-3 weeks later, a couple with 2 small children moved upstairs. If there is hell, it is when your neighbours have children!
In 2019 I lived in an apartment and a kid ran end to end 15 hours a day it went on for about a year. Family or no one would let me move so finally I had enough. I was sleep deprived and not really sane at that point. It was a holiday weekend and I had a big Amp & Guitar and all the pedals. I could do bass that would literally raddle the whole building. I put a Fullbore Metal in front of a 2-12 Cabinet plugged in and when I hit the EA string barre everything shook then I played for hours at night at over 200 decibels. So much Bass I had figurines doing 360 rotary from the Bass & things falling in the floor. I had model airplanes doing 360s on the TV stand 20 feet from the cabinet. Bass & power chord treatments they got the message and they didn't like karma plus I got evicted and wait wait wait a minute the day they were going to kick me out was a holiday and it delayed everything a week so I really got em I played every night for another week and laughed it backfired while I packed during the day. I forced a move. 200 decibels will ring your damn bell. This was mar 2nd 2019. I recorded the original video and it's still on TH-cam of things falling in the floor from that Bass. This is Honey in Hell to read & a true story in Cartersville Georgia.
Our neighbours start chopping vegetables at 2am which is above our bedroom and the kids rooms for the last 3 days 2am is now a way to start the day, I'm really to scream, I have told them months ago that it's an issue but they say it's our issue not theirs, and the stomping omg. I feel for all of us
What country or city do you live in? There are certain laws that allow you to press charges towards the people upstairs. That can really help you. Document every noise they are making. I have had the same issue in regard to recording the ceiling and the video not recording the audio properly; the noise is more quiet in video in comparison to real life. Although there should be a specific top corner in your home where when you record, you can hear everything. It depends on how you angle your phone and where you record in your home; preferably angling your phone so that the "speaker" of your phone is facing up. Also, if you are experiencing negative physical and/or mental symptoms, please go to a doctor or therapist and have them give you a document of your symptoms in regards to the noise. Hope this helps. Take care.
It's funny that there are no laws requirements for noise proofing apartments, I looked into it and is not a massive makeover, but it should be done during the building process and not after people move into the units. You can basically raise the floors and separate them to decrease the impact noise, and you can also insert vinyl plates to decrease the airborne noise. That should be mandatory in floors and walls, it would literally make apartments completely soundproof from music loud talking and even big impacts like a bass or jumping walking etc. It's not 100% soundproof, but enough to give people the proper peace of mind, if you have normal people living in the units like, you are just your average loud tenants, it would not leak any noise, but if you have animals like your upstairs neighbors it would leak a little noise since they are extra loud, but still liveable. The building I'm living in atm have a concrete foundation separating me and the downstairs neighbor (Which is pretty loud tbh), but I can deal with it since most of the airborne noise drowns out before coming into my place, also windows makes a huge difference, good 100% sealed windows can block out a lot of noise.
Management didn't help with any noise complaint I had before, don't expect mich from them. Police definitely wouldn't help, they wak loudly and can say it's just the way they walk.
My upstairs neighbor moved in when my parents and I moved in or in that time frame. The guy drops weights or drags them across the floor, he stomps all day for the most part. Slams doors, sometimes brings his shit head kids who used to run all over the apartment plays loud music also talks really loud.
