    Looking really good Stan. how about a microswitch on the door so it is always de-energized if open. It could be in series with the heat enable switch. On would still turn on and off by the micro, off would be dead no matter what.

    Cool stuff! Nice to have the timer function. Makes heat treating set and forget.

    Very nice. But I can't help but thinking of the "Hot Shot Cattle Prod" when I read the name. Love it.

    I have a laboratory grade kiln/oven like this but it has all manual temp controls and analog temp display. What would it cost just for this controller so I can upgrade it? Its a $3,000.00 kiln so would not be interested in buying another unit as am already buried into this one. But digital pic control would make it the bomb. Mine gets up to 2400 deg F or higher and no elements are exposed inside all are under the firebrick or embedded into the bricks controls are in the base because heat rises and door swings up like a gull wing door so no latches needed as its held closed by its own weight . But does have a trick mechanism for the way the door swing out as it goes up and open away from the opening and no hinges are subject to much heat that is rising out of the opening. a Stainless body would have made this unit of mine better like yours here requiring no paint. Good job Stan it looks like a winner.

      Digital PID controllers are pretty inexpensive these days, even brand name versions (the only ones I would go with). Watlow, Omega, etc. Probably not more than $200 unless you want a ramping (rate) controller which would be considerably more. All DIN sizes to fit nearly any space or existing holes.

      Lab ovens are a whole different class of oven (for the better) the old analog controls can certainly be changed out, the little manual temperature controller like I have used is inexpensive, but when you get into the process controllers, they can easily get into the 1200-1700 dollar range.

    I wouldn't be a user of this oven but I still would like one. Stan you've done the community proud with your creation.

    Great videos Stan and it looks like a great product. A few questions / comments: 1. Would you make a 240v (International version)? 2. How much are you selling them for? 3. Can I suggest that you print the controller instructions on the face of the control box (with all the other text). It looks a little complicated. Cheers, Al

      @ShadonHKW  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Al, No plans for a 240V version yet, with enough interest I can be persuaded. 780.00 USD is the current retail. Not enough real estate for the instructions, its pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

    I just got paid for a job and deposited it in my account so I can pay off my hotshot. I am so excited :) FYI, I am a teacher and have done some technical writing. I am happy to help with the manual!

    just a question, and forgive me as i have no engineering experience...In one of your development vids of the hot shot you mentioned you tried magnets inside the case of the oven as you didnt like the look of them on the outside. You followed that by showing how the prototype didnt function so well with the magnet inside the case and caused issues. Now that you have a mechanical latch, could you install that latch back inside the case and that way keep the exterior clean and sleek?

    • @ShadonHKW
      @ShadonHKW  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These latches need a small amount of grease, I'm afraid the heat would melt away the lube.

    • @jepps77
      @jepps77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great observation, i would have never thought of that. Shame it needs the lube though.

    Stan, I really do hope you have patented your design and registered the "Hot Shot 360" product name.

    • @SandyShoresProjects
      @SandyShoresProjects 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rain Coast it’s not patentable, besides, patents are worthless and cost major amounts of money without offering any protection

      I think the best I can do is a trademark or copyright the hot shot 360 name.

    Brushed stainless is an ideal choice. It denotes a quality product.
    But why ruin its aesthetic appeal by stamping the serial number in a place where it daily assaults the eye ?
    Customers will consider the door corner gaps to be poor workmanship despite your intentional use of them.
    Create a door vent that is hidden; perhaps in the upper reverse edge that is unseen when the door is closed.
    Your future design should include the much wider market of Potters, Ceramicists, Jewelers, Dental Technicians and Hobbyists.
    You may have to minimise footprint by relocating the controller back under the oven for that market.
    The build material is right, the door handle and hinge is right, the firebrick base is right, the controller, TC and Nichrome is right.
    Your product is superior to that of TTFCoy . Your prices should reflect that. I think you are on a winner.

    I would get rid of that super complicated plc timer from the 90's, that will ruin someone's day and metal . when they loose the book its over...... you need a more intuitive unit oled touch unit. I really like the oven but cant remember a seeing a announcement of a product run?....

      Last time I checked, the two ways to get one of those fancy controllers were time or money. I'm sure Stan doesn't have the time to roll his own, and buyers don't want another $100 added to the bill for an off the shelf unit.
      And I'd be concerned about reliability.

      Using off the shelf temp controllers from a reputable supplier (not e-bay disposables) This is an entry level oven with an entry level price point, all this would do is drive the price up.

    • @vettepicking
      @vettepicking 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stan - This particular one looks pretty rough. Door doesn't fit, large exposed gap at the door corner, a complicated control system, and it looks like you are back to having to use two hands to operate the door.

    • @mattmanyam
      @mattmanyam 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gap in door is intentional (see earlier video).
      I assume the door latch will break in a little to be better, plus, when the oven actually has parts in it, it will be more resistant to sliding the unit around on the bench.
      I'm guessing if you want a better controller, it can be upgraded, for a price. (This was targeted to be a certain price point, if I recall correctly.)

    • @ShadonHKW
      @ShadonHKW  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I opted not to weld up the door corners to allow venting through the Kaowool, the slam latch works fine 1 handed but didnt want to bump the camera while I was filming this.
