* NEAR TO WEANING = grain mixture and good quality forage should be provided . CALF STARTER should be given after 2-3 weeks of weaning.
*AFTER WEANING = start feeding good quality forage when calf starter intake is 2.3-2.7 kg .
Do not give silage to eat till BW of 182kg coz of the small rumen capacity and high moisture so they can't meet their dry matter intake.
It's all about good feeding managements of heifer from 3 months to breeding .Group feeding is done in heifer according to weight or age . We can use NRC table for formulating ration. We should avoid feeding silage until the weight is 182Kg . After 6 months of age we can offer silage. But we should avoid excess energy because it can affect mammary gland system.

Group feeding is a best way to feed heifers that will help to get optimum growth and reduce cost of production. Grouping can be done on two basis either by heifer weight or by heifer age. After weaning heifer should be grouped by weight not by age, during this time it is important to monitor body weight, height and body conditions score. At this time weight can be taken through a tape. A body condition score of 3 on a 5 scale is ideal one, at this age and size heifer should not have extra flesh around the rump area. A good rate of growth from weaning to breeding is about 0.9kg per day for breeds having similar size. In second type of grouping that is on the basis of age contains 3 groups 3-6m , 7-12m, 13-24m.

During the pre-pubertal period of the heifer, excess energy intake can negarively effect the mammary systwm of the heifer. At this stage, the mammary system of heifer is growing at fast rate, so execessive energy may reduce milk production at later stage.
