Feeding standards usually are expressed in:
Quantities of nutrients required per day. Used for animals given exact quantities of a diet.
As a percentage of a diet. Used commonly when the diet is fed ad libitum.
The unit used: Most nutrients are expressed in weight units, as percentages, or as parts per million (ppm)

* some animal require more nutrients than the calculated average feed ,so we gave them margin of 5-10% .This safety margin above the average requirement is called '' ALLOWANCE''

18-arid-4557 Evening Group B Nutrients requirements of animals is determined by using NRC table . Feeding standards are expressed as nutrients requirement per day. Some animals require more nutrients than normal so they are provided 10-15 percent more nutrients which is called allowance. But nearly 68 percent population's requirement is fulfilled . Feeding standards do not tell us about the economy , diet palatability , digestive disturbance individual animals difference , stress factor and disease . We should avoid underfeeding , overfeeding, maximum and minimum level of nutrients.

feeding standards are actually the statements of amount of nutrients require by animals.
nutrient requirement means what an animal require for particular functions. how much quantity on average basis of a particular nutrient for a particular function is required by an animal.
allowance is a safety margin above requirement to allow for variation in requirement between individuals. when we formulate ration the nutrient requirement are on average basis but some of the animals are below average and some are above so their nutrient requirement are always different just to meet the nutrient requirement of those animals which are above then the average so we give some safety margins 5-10% . purpose of this is to compensate for those animals that have nutrient requirement more than the average.
