As In the context of acidosis in cattle, the pH level in the rumen typically becomes low, not high. Acidosis in cattle often refers to ruminal acidosis, which occurs when there is an excessive accumulation of volatile fatty acids (VFAs), particularly lactic acid, in the rumen. This buildup of acids lowers the pH of the rumen fluid, leading to a condition known as ruminal acidosis. Normal rumen pH ranges from approximately 6.0 to 7.0. However, during ruminal acidosis, the pH can drop significantly below this range, sometimes reaching levels as low as 4.0 or lower. This acidic environment can disrupt the normal microbial population in the rumen, impair digestion, and potentially lead to various health issues in cattle, including reduced feed intake, rumen inflammation, laminitis, and metabolic disorders. Thus, in cases of acidosis in cattle, the pH of the rumen becomes low due to an accumulation of acids, particularly lactic acid, rather than being high. To solve this issue we often use bicarbonates to increase the pH, am I right?
