    hey question for you, so when i have heard sub setups in jeeps, they tend to have very tight bass with very modest set ups... are jeeps like the ideal for car audio? i have a hatch and would like to achieve similair results with my setup , i was thinking about putting cld to help with the rattle and tighten up the sound,
    would this help fix the problem ?

    Hey, I have a quick question. I have a 2018 JLU with the factory Alpine premium sound. My rear speakers and subwoofer were stolen. Rear speakers are easy to replace, but I want to know if I can just add a 2 ohm JL Audio Stealthbox? Do I need to do an amp or will the factory amp power it?

  • @farim7881

    You still can back recline the rear seat about 1,5 inches. But with those 2 speakers subs on the back the rear seat can't recline.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! Have you seen the followup from a few months ago (link below)? The PAC pre-amp adapter is still the best way IMO to tie in an aftermarket amp, but we now have some great options for going with bigger speakers in the dash and sound bar.

      My JK leaks like a sieve, but it doesn't get to the amp under the seat which is slightly elevated off the floor, mostly pools in the front passenger floor closer to the firewall. I'm like the shoemaker's wife, we never any time to work on our own vehicles. Definitely doesn't hurt to go marine grade!

    Annie My 17 year old daughter has a JL Sport Unlimited, it's not the premium Alpine sound system it has the radio with the larger screen backup camera and blind spot sensors, it is not the most basic radio. I think its the one above that. I'm looking for something her and I can do together to upgrade her system with out breaking the bank. I have installed sound systems before but it was like 20 years ago. Not sure if just aall around Speaker upgrade would help or maybe also integrating basic amp is available? I'm still unsure on adding a sub, Any advise from a dad trying to work with his kid on a project? Thanks

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John, check out the in depth post on my blog at carstereochick.com and also the JL Wrangler forum under the speaker upgrade thread. Hard to cram it all into a comment reply but at a minimum would recommend the AP4-CH41R2, upgraded components, value priced option Blam Audio 4” components, 5 channel amp to power them and a sub. Can’t easily just swap speakers and power off radio, resistance value would be off and you’d have no output from the radio. The pac adapter makes easy to do full upgrade with an amp and you really need the extra power to the speakers anyways. OR start by adding what’s missing, the bass and the pac adapter makes it easy to just add that too.

  • @davidkay7389

    Big tip: do all stereo and electronics before putting in an aftermarket sport cage. It is a major bitch to pull out a cage and reinstall it just for knee kick panel speakers (JK models especially)
    Recommend marine grade amplifier due to environment Jeeps sometimes find themselves in. JL audio makes equivalent amps with dsp. Jeeps also tend to leak over time as well, so another reason for marine rated...especially if mounting amps under seats
    I put in component JL audio C7s in the front soundstage, and C5s in the soundbar.
    Highly recommend sound deadening the tub and floors too.

    Do you have to have the resistors with the PAC adapter or does the AP4-CH41 make those unnecessary?

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, I’m glad you asked. So the AP4-CH41 shown and used in the video does not work in the non amplified models, only for Alpine premium sound and no resistors required.
      There is a NEW version coming very soon called the AP4-CH41R2 which will work on ALL models including non amplified 5”, 7” or 8.4” AND no resistors required. This is a game changer, making it easy for anyone to do the same upgrade we did in this video in any JL/JLU.

    How much harder would this be with the stock sound system? And can the smaller alpine powerpack amps be used instead of the big ones?

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there - not sure I understand your question, I think you mean how hard would it be for Jeeps with the base stock sound system? PAC just released an updated version of the AP4-CH41 - R2. The R2 version will work on the non amplified models making the install slightly easier than this one because it gives you color coded speaker wire output from behind the head unit that you can route to your aftermarket amp (in this one we had to catch wires at the stock amp driver side upper kick). You could definitely use a smaller amp, but keep in mind the trick to any good Wrangler system is to have more power than you think you need and speakers that can handle it. The more power you have, the louder and clearer it will be which will be appreciated at higher speeds with doors and top off.

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry no. I recall inquiring with my local Jeep parts department when we ordered the OEM panel, but think it was around $350 so we just trimmed it out with a little bit of automotive grade carpet. Probably best to go and talk in person to your local parts department because they can't look it up by your VIN, need to be for a non amplified model to get right fit.

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not positive, but I think you may need both the side and the bottom. I think that part is the side only. From memory, I recall the stock bottom part on the amplified model as being narrower on the passenger side because of the stock subwoofer compared to the non amplified models bottom carpet and I didn't think the passenger wall carpet alone would cover it. At least that's the conversation I recall when I looked up the parts at the dealer, I think you may need both bottom and side, but I could be COMPLETELY wrong. Do you mind please letting me know how it fits and if that's all you end up needing? Thanks so much!

    • @taurusthebull76
      @taurusthebull76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carstereochick Ok...so I was able to remove my factory subwoofer, replace with the correct panels & get the correct carpet. You only need 3 pieces to get this done correctly. 6LU84TX7AD, 6BM34TX7AB, & 6SQ60TX7AA. Everything fits fine w/o any mods. Just to add again, there is only one piece of carpet that you need, & that part # is 6SQ60TX7AA. Another thing to add is that there will be a little plastic thingy that screws over the little bolt you'll need. I'm still searching for that part. It basically allows the plastic ring on the carpet to snap in place. It will be like the one on the left side, but honestly it can easily go unnoticed. If you'd like, I can e-mail you the pics. That is a mall crawler for sure. No water crossing for this jeep. LOL :)

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha - our Jeep doesn't do malls, but, yeah, the most it will probably see are dirt roads for biking, hiking and camping. It also just a Sunday driver vehicle for us, that in and of itself (with a kick ass stereo) is definitely a fun thing to do in our neck of the woods, it's a pretty area to cruise and crank the tunes. In all seriousness, I do have plenty of customers that do off road with this level of quality equipment. The under seat amp location is slightly elevated so it does have some protection to the elements. The RCA cables and speaker wire are outdoor/ATV grade. I have one customer that leaves his doors off from memorial day to labor day and he drives around in a hooded raincoat on rainy days. He does off roading as well and his system is still kicking - amp safe under the seat. If you wanted to be super safe you could go Marine grade - JL offers a whole line of Marine amps in their MX, M and MHD series. Additionally the rear storage tray might be a safer, slightly more elevated location for electronics if you are concerned about things getting submerged. Thanks for watching.

  • @k.l.858
    @k.l.858 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The set up appears to be overkill. I would bet it’s mega expensive. I feel you could get similar sound by adding 4 Rockville 2 way speakers to a crossbar to the Alpine premium sound system. It would be a 3 hour install and you would be out on the road. Three days of labor and pulling everything out of the Jeep is ridiculous.

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DSP is not necessary for most clients. Check out my latest video for a more simplified upgrade. Unfortunately to upgrade the vehicles you basically have to have the entire dash apart anyways, so at that point you might as well throw in the pre-amp and a good little amp to push some bigger/higher quality speakers.

      Moniker given to me by a client a long time ago when I taught him about series, parallel, bridged vs mono etc. after he came in to buy a new system and I went out to his car with a multimeter and showed him and explained to him why his amp kept cutting out. Fixed it a few minutes for him. I know how to install and not at all afraid to get my hands dirty, that's why I understand how all this stuff works, but the reality is I'm too busy running a business to be working on cars all day long. Someone's gotta design and sell the systems, book the jobs, order the inventory, answer the phones, assist clients with technical support and service related issues, put the stuff on display for clients to listen to, pay the bills, do the payroll, manage the social media pages and all the other fun stuff that comes along with owning a business. The information you gave me when we spoke briefly, is more than anyone else in any of my local shops, installers included!, could give in a 30 minute discussion. You know what you're talking about. The one and only reason I could not take my job to your shop is I am simply too far and it would have been almost impossible to make this work on my schedule. And no, I did not take it to any local shop. I decided to jump into this install myself and doing it in my driveway, when I can get a break from work! As a supporter of your channel, it's tough to see comments like this towards someone who takes an incredible (no pun intended) amount of time with their customers and running a business. After embarking on this install myself, I can assure you that I am learning that your work is worth every penny as this is no easy install. To simply design something like this takes a tremendous amount of skill which you clearly have. I think some viewers truly need to understand that running the wires is usually the easiest part of the job as without the knowledge to put the components together, the install would simply not be worth much!. Keep doing what you're doing and maybe, if I ever get this done and I can stop by on my way up north to see my daughter, to show a true professional, the work of a true novice, I will.
